Continuing from my board: As Argel walked, he considered what he knew. He knew this blade would stand out, at least reasonably so. He knew the thief or thieves carrying it probably didn't want to part with it. He knew he was here to make them. He knew the blade was probably going to egg it on. He knew he needed to be prepared. ...and seeing the remnants of a campfire, he knew someone was near. Could be his prey, he reasoned, so he began to put his tracking skills to work. Surely they would be lying in wait though, so he had to be cautious about how he approached wherever this trail lead. The smoldering embers of the campfire were not the only sign of the site's recent use. Several sets of bootprints are sunk in the snow, and the twin lines of wheel marks cut a path further off the road. Whoever left these tracks wasn't being terribly stealthy about it. The tracks led up a short but relatively steep hill; hard to know what would be at the top. Frostfell Silencer Creature - Human Rogue Deathtouch Whenever a creature dealt damage by ~ this turn would die, exile it instead. 1/1 "You're not buried terribly well, are you? Well, it'll only matter until the next snowstorm."Our knight in shining armor approaches, Xaja. Shiny or not, it's nothin' I can't use you to cut through.
Exiling Firebelly means it doesn't get its death trigger. Counting the bootprints, Argel acknowledges the odds are not in his favor here. Perhaps he could get the jump on them, turn the tides to his advantage. He goes up the hill, trying to stay low and move slow to minimize the crunch of the snow beneath him, but he could only do so much. If they weren't at the top of the hill, at least he could see further where they might've went. He slowly puts his right hand on the hilt of the sword on his back, ready if it does come to blows right away. He was really hoping it wouldn't. Scaled Stalker Creature - Draogn Rogue Level up [Level 1+] ~ can't be blocked. [Level 2+] Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, you may scry 1. 2/1 Frostfell Silencer: 8/10. Just a classic 1/1 deathtouch for 1, but at uncommon because of the other ability added. Not great outside of a context with graveyard synergy, a really good one drop in that context. Love the flavor.

pacifistwestwoman The visitor notices the approaching woman, but doesn't turn to face them until their conversation with the field owner is completed. Unfortunately, they both end up shaking their heads, unable to reach an agreement, with the farmer wandering off elsewhere while the traveler turned to face the woman."My apologies for the wait, discussions on agriculture tend to take time, and we seemed for a moment to be nearing a conclusion." The man sighs, not disheartened, but not defeated by the apparent setback. "I am Arandu, may I know your name as well?" He raised a hand in greeting, certainly a friendlier individual from another plane than those Yenna might have encountered before. Terrace Master Creature - Human Druid Vigilance : You may play an additional land card this turn. Activate only during your turn. Under their guidance, the mountain slopes transform into a garden to feed thousands.[2/2] Relentless Miner: 8/10. Reaching the top of the hill reveals a broad flatter area before the elevation increases further via a relatively short rocky cliff face, roughly two stories tall. It did not seem apparent who might be in possession of the blade but it could be the one who is away, so he had to play his cards right. If he alerted them and it was the 4th, they could turn tail and flee and then he would have to chase them. Through the snow and the hills, that didn't seem like a whole lot of fun. Waiting seemed like the best option, but there was no telling how long they would be out. They could've gone to town to buy supplies or, gods forbid, find a buyer for the fancy weapon. He had to make a decision. He had no evidence these were even thieves, much less the thieves he was looking for, so he didn't want to hurt anyone unnecessarily. However, they were very aware of the dangers of the wilderness and were ready for trouble. He had no way of knowing if trouble included him or not, and he didn't want to get pierced by an arrow to find out. Making sure he was still as hidden as he could be, Argel picked up some of the snow and packed it into a tight ball. Hoping his aim was true, he let loose at the archer, hoping to draw their attention but not leave himself open to shoot at. If this caused people to come investigate one at a time, he could begin to dispatch them and make less work. If multiple came, he was going to have a problem. Maybe even could be 1 mana.

Terrace Master: 8/10. So, I'm a little confused with where this card is supposed to go. Vigilance makes me think I'm supposed to attack with it, but the tap ability makes me want to not attack with it, to keep it safe. She shakes his hand. "Oh, not a problem. I'm Yenna. If it's not an inappropriate question: where are you from? You just look a little out of place, is all, but I'm terribly curious about other places."Insomniac Obsession Instant Untap target creature. That creature's activated abilities cost less until end of turn. Arandu seems amused when Yenna notes how he stands out, which was only emphasized when he shivered slightly in the cold weather. "I'm not surprised, every world I visit tends to be different in some way from my own. It's a bit of the reason why I choose to explore them."His gaze looked back towards the fields surrounding the village, many more of them covered in layers of snow and sleet, before he sighed. "Of course, venturing to other worlds means adapting to the local environment. I was a bit caught of guard by the amount of snowfall on my arrival. It's something we'll have to consider for the long-term, if it comes to that." He turns back to her, a bit wistful, but still visually interested in their conversation. "To answer your question, my own world is called Pacha Marka. The climate varies depending on where you travel, but there are communities living outside of the empire's influence that find ways to survive in the harsher environments. I'm from one of many of them."Synthetic Sinew Instant Whenever target creature you control becomes tapped this turn, put a +1/+1 counter on it. Create a Canister token. (It’s an artifact with “, Sacrifice this artifact: Untap target permanent. Activate only during your turn.”) Insomniac Obsession: 6/10. It's fine, just tad specific where it isn't really that "useful" even in an environment where this is helpful. This probably could cantrip honestly, like Cerulean Wisps.

No, course not.""Right, then go over there and find out who did."Welp, that was a problem. Best he could do now was pacify them and hope to not hurt them or get hurt in the process. He readied his pose to grab the last person to approach unless the first looked about to see him. Blue electricity begins to spark around his right hand, racing around his scaled fingers. "Get over there!"If they approached, they might hear the faint noise of the building charge. If they got that close, however, Argel reached to grab their ankle, hoping to push enough energy through their body to temporarily pacify them, hopefully with no lasting harm. He was also ready to pull that person to the ground if it did not work, and charge the next person, which could leave him in the open for the archer, but he couldn't plan for everything. Volt Mage Creature - Dragon Wizard Level up [Level 1+] , Discard a card: Draw a card. [Level 2+] : ~ deals 1 damage to target creature or player. 1/2 Blazebow Sniper: 9/10. Unkeyworded battalion, I like it. Aside from the flavor in the story, a bit interesting to have an archer have an aggressive ability, but I can vibe with it.

Synthetic Sinew: 7/10. This is... interesting. The base case I see this under is using it aggressively before attacking with everything, in which case it's objectively better than Charge when used for the same thing. How good this card is outside of that depends entirely on the context of both the set it's in and which specific creatures you have on the board, which I consider to be a point against it. That said, I do like that it makes a cannister token so that you can put two counters on the same creature. Yenna seems a little concerned by Arandu's shivering. "Well, we're about halfway through winter; the snow all melts away after that. Speaking of which, my shop isn't far, if you want to come in and warm up."Should he accept, Yenna continues the conversation as they make their way into town, but should he decline, she's happy to continue the conversation outside. Endless Investigation Sorcery Until end of turn, creatures you control gain " : Target player mills X, where X is this creature's power." The invitation is polite surprise, and quickly accepted. "I would be grateful, please lead the way." Arandu is likewise pleased by the conversation, happy to answer her questions as they walk away from the outskirts and towards the town proper. "We'd heard a few tales from visitors to our own world, but genuinely finding it was a small accident. A fruitful one, but unintended." His gaze occasionally goes towards their surroundings, eyeing the town's and its layout as their ventured through it, curious as well, but more interested in looking than asking, for the moment. "But if you're asking about why I'm here. Exploration. Curiosity. We're also interested in finding other worlds that my companions may eventually settle themselves, given time. Although this one is still far from being well understood, so that likely won't be for a while."Infusion of Vigor Artifact When Infusion of Vigor enters the battlefield, draw a card. , , Sacrifice Infusion of Vigor: The next time you activate an ability this turn, if it isn’t a mana ability copy it. You may choose new targets for the copy. Endless Investigation: Phenax, God of Deception but for a turn and power seems neat, though these types of spells are situational. I think this could be costed like Glimpse the Unthinkable, as the ceiling for this breaking even with that is a high cost in tapping creatures. 6/10.

So, there are relatively few activated abilities that I would actually have an issue with this copying, but most of them are planeswalker ults, which should not be copied for 1 mana, and I believe count as activating abilities. Yenna leads Arandu down the main road, which, after getting into town proper, is surrounded on either side by two- to three-story houses, and streets far narrower than the main road branching off in either direction. A market square can be seen up ahead. "Oh, I'd be happy to tell you about this world. Not sure it'll boost confidence in trying to have a peaceful, out-of-the-way life, though. First thing to know about this world for a planeswalker like yourself: there's a lot of you here, and they tend to get into fights. There's a battlefield not far from here, though that one's a bit unusual. I heard some town along the coast got blown up or something a couple weeks back. The price of fish went way up after that, but, what can you do? Oh, and that big weird sky tower the other day, or whatever that was. Honestly, almost missed that one entirely. Anyway, weird stuff happens all the time, but we just keep chuggin' along. Plus, we're lucky enough that it rarely happens near here." Maybe I'll take you up on that offer.Oh, he's still alive, quit whining.Argel can hear footprints from behind them ascending the hill. And we were just getting to the fun part. Well, one down, one more approaching. Haven't upped my odds any, but at least my fears of the possible sword-wielder being away are being alleviated. Now to get out of this safely and without hurting anyone too much, and maybe even with a new weapon. He just needed a distraction from the two in front to find out if the one behind in fact had the sword. If not, it'd be easier to dispatch them in smaller groups.
He didn't do this often, but it was exceptionally fun when he got to. For some reason, this kind of magic worked much better for him than more direct mana manipulation or whatever his teacher called it. Using his bought time from the potential thieves being scared of what just put down their friend, he began to draw in even more electrical charge. Holding both hands slightly apart from each other in front of him gave the charge a place to ricochet and build up energy as he drew in more mana. After just a few moments, it was already louder than the previous charge they barely heard. Before they could reasonably react however, Argel pointed his right hand above the vegetation he was hiding behind. The charge performed its final jump to his right hand as commanded, then arced directly forwards up into the air. The lightning came with an extremely loud shockwave this time, something unusual of most more refined and controlled lightning magic. The loud boom by itself probably causes enough distraction on its own, but the snow loosening from the top of the two story cliff will cause the more intended distraction. He had practiced with this magic quite a bit, but it was still nerve-wracking and deafening, even when he was the one casting it and was expecting it. With his ears still ringing slightly, Argel turned around to greet the approaching person, hoping the others would stay busy long enough. If this was the one with the intelligent sword, the one thing he planned on leaving with, it wouldn't do to walk away without using his own sword. He draws the large weapon from his back and readies himself if the person came running to the noise. Spending 100 Valor, Argel has unlocked Instant type mastery. Sonic Shock Instant ~ deals 2 damage to target player. Tap all creatures with mana value 3 or less. Spellweaver's Interrupt: 9/10. Decent. Only qualm with it is the token feels a bit generic as a vanilla blue 1/1 wizard, but that is something that is only really alleviated with context.

Weird that it also taps your creatures. If I'm reading it right, it can be used as a worse Bond of Discipline or "Shock target player. They can't attack you this turn, but only if it's turn 4 or they're a token spam deck." Also weird that Argel's thoughts are in third person, but oh well.
Argel's thunder shook the area. Snow fell from the cliff, snow fell from the trees. The archer was nearly thrown off her perch by the shockwave, only to be hit by a wave of snow, and knocked harmlessly to the ground. The swordsman is hit by several patches of snow falling from trees, and is incapacitated for a moment as he backs away, wiping the snow from his eyes. "Neat sword you got there. Where'd you get it from?"Argel pushes some energy into his sword hand and the length of the greatsword lights up as the bright blue electric energy runs along the edge of the blade. He had to be sure this was the sword he was looking for though, and if what he was told was true, its unlikely it would let them turn away from a challenge. Strike With Lightning Instant Target creature gets +1/+0 and double strike until end of turn. Draw a card. Xaja, Grounded Muscle: 9/10. Love this. It does interact weird with the opponent having first strikers, promoting blocking in that case, but thats a fairly niche situation and a fairly inconsequential result on the play pattern I feel.

Infusion of Vigor: 8/10. Plus, we're lucky enough that it rarely happens near here." Architect of Originality Creature - Human Artificer Spells, abilities, and permanents can't be copied. 1/3 "Can't anyone make something original for once?" Arandu is listening, though he seems a bit concerned by the amount of activity, especially violent, that seems to occur on this plane. Yenna's almost nonchalant perspective seems to puzzle him, even if she and her neighbors have managed to avoid the worst of it. "I will keep that in mind, though if you're not bothered by it, I am somewhat relieved. The events you're describing do sound rather frightening without knowing more."Meanwhile, Arandu has been observing the buildings as they pass, notably looking to towards the top of them to see how far they went. After a bit of this, he looked back to Yenna. "If I may ask, which of these belongs to your family?" Agent of Moderation Creature - Human Cleric Players can’t cast more than one spell each turn unless they pay an additional to cast each spell beyond the first. Whenever a player casts a spell, they may draw a card. [2/2] - Since we can't copy anything, lets stew on our own spells for a while. Architect of Originality: Dranith Magistrate but for copies. Fine. 7/10

But, y'know..." she sighs deeply. "The Goddess tests us all in some way or another." Going into the market square, many tents are setup selling various wares, and the buildings on the edge have various signs denoting what's sold inside. Yenna points to one such building, a skinny but three-story house, marked as a blacksmith. "Just up here. We're blacksmiths, so the forge is sure to be warmer than it is out here." Yenna opens the door and invites Arandu in. Inside is a wooden half of the room on the right, dressed up as a storefront: small crates of common metal product are available before a counter, behind which is an older man: balding, but still fit, with a grey mustache. The man wears a heavy tunic, swapping currency with customers dressed in winter coats and cloaks. The left half of the room has a stone floor and walls, and is evidently the forge, outfitted with worktables, an anvil, and a hearth with smoldering embers. Stairs behind the counter ascend to the second floor, and a door behind the counter goes to some room to the right. Seems a bit weird to have a creature able to get all kinds of counters, including those just used to mark stuff or counters it can't utilize like charge counters, but I don't think its problematic. Seems a good rate with cantrip attached. Probably shines the best in a context with keyword counters.

I think the closest point of comparison is Ordeal of Thassa which I would say makes this too good due to its versatility and not making you sacrifice it. ---------------------------------------- "The nobles and aristocrats take us for tools, weapons for their wars, decorations for their gardens. I will follow their word no longer."2/3 Dust-Bound Wanderer: 6/10. I think the closest point of comparison is Ordeal of Thassa which I would say makes this too good due to its versatility and not making you sacrifice it. Atlani whips around at the grinding, only relaxing somewhat at the nonthreatening tone. The cat turns around more slowly and looks on with a blank stare. Oh good, another animated object. How much trouble will this one be?
Atlani responds in a tone that is neither threatening nor friendly. "Hello to you as well. Apologies if I've disturbed anything, but you haven't happened to see anyone else taking this path, have you?" March Inquisitor
Creature - Human Knight Raid -- When ~ ETB, if you attacked this turn, draw a card. Whenever you draw your second card each turn, put a +1/+1 counter on ~. 2/2 March Inquisitor is either overcosted or undertuned I think. The cantrip part seems fine, but the second ability I'm pretty sure could safely trigger on any draw. 7/10The living statue smiled, her marble surface flexing like it was smooth skin, save for the slight blocky-ness of her construction. "No, you're fine, just taking a nap. Haven't seen anyone walk this way unfortunately." She rolls her shoulders back, a cracking noise being audible. "Ah, that felt good. Nothing like a morning stretch to get you going, right?" Now that the statue was moving, Atlani could tell that she carried herself like an athlete, seeming quite nimble despite her towering height. Warm-Up Instant Scry 1. Sculpt target permanent you control. (Put a +1/+1, loyalty, or charge counter on it, or remove a counter from it to draw a card.)
---------------------------------------- Artists around Candezza start their day by working on scraps of larger works, hoping to prepare their bodies and minds for the day of work ahead.Note: Sculpt has a permanent-type-hack thing going on like sunburst. +1/+1 is creatures, loyalty is planeswalkers, and charge is everything else.

Warm Up: 10/10. Opt but it’s sculpt is something I can get behind. The note makes stuff like this technically abusable in cases of like “for each type of counter on something” by putting loyalty and charge counters on creatures but that’s such an edge case it’s nbd. “A shame.” A statue in surprisingly good shape could be useful. I wonder now if my tongue is sharp enough to persuade stone.“I suppose. What brings you out here? Hardly an audience to admire you properly between towns as you are.” Conceit’s Mirror Artifact - Equipment : Attach ~ to target creature. Activate only as a sorcery. : Put a charge counter on ~. Equipped creature gets +1/-1 for each charge counter on ~. When equipped creature dies, remove all charge counters from ~.

A big black cat with a longsword in his back approaches Atlani. "Good meowrning meowstress! Meow brother told meow about you. He said you were a really strong warrior. Meownd showing meow your skills?" Without further ado, the cat jumps towards the woman, the sword disspearing and turning into an oversized battleaxe. Even though the cat is on the aggresive, he shows no sings of ill will, and a playful smile adorns his face, as if it was all a friendly sparring.p Carefree Challenger Creature - Cat Warrior Spectacle When ~ enters the battlefied, target creature you don't control gets -1/-1 until end of turn. If ~'s spectacle cost was paid, it gets -3/-3 until end of turn instead. 3/3

The Spectacle cost is a bit high, and could probably just be "destroy target creature" re: Ravenous ChupacabraAtlani was not entirely prepared for combat at that moment, sword undrawn, and bow still hung on her shoulder, though her shield rested on her forearm. She threw the shield up to block the axe, giving the cat a good look at the wings inscribed into it. Should Doer have been to Tarkir before Sarkhan's revisions, he would surely recognize the Mardu Horde's insignia. Beyond that, Atlani responds to Doer's playful smile with her own. "I suppose I don't have too much choice in the matter, do I?" She draws her blade with the other hand and lazily tries to stab at Doer. Beneficence Guard Creature - Spirit Knight When ~ leaves the battlefield, put X +1/+1 counters on target creature you control, where X is its power. 2/3 "If you can beat one of them, you can beat anyone."
