Might as well finally say something here. Hi! I'm dragonspit999. I didn't wanna do something like this and vaguely commit to being a part of this until I knew I'd be here for a bit. Well, I've now put entries into 3 CotW contests, and might even soon make a Battle Board, so I guess its time. (Battle Boards are slightly intimidating with so many rules and so many people who have been doing it for so long.) That said, the fun things are really cool for me, as I love designing cards but often lack direction. Restrictions, such as those put up to make a game interesting, keep me focused and inspire creativity. This is also a concept that assists me in other hobbies, such as making characters for tabletop games. I haven't designed many cards, but enjoy exploring the philosophy behind designs, why they work, why they are worded the way they are, why the rules work the way they do, how it fits flavorfully into the setting, just about everything. A big fan of exact syntax in particular, especially when Wizards has to reformat old syntax or create new syntax for a new design.
I enjoy artifacts and their designs the most usually, but also love enchantments. I'm a big fan of Theros, both in its enchantment focus and also usage of Greek mythology, something else I enjoy. Coming from Alara, Esper is one of my favorite designs, artistically and mechanically. Tribal is also one of my favorite designs, as a mostly unused mechanic from my childhood, specifically from Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block. (Since planeswalkers are clearly a huge part of mtg still, and changelings are in a supplemental every now and then.) Another favorite mechanic of mine is Level-up, as a very unique design that has also been left in the past while I believe it shows much promise, even when compared to the likes of today's designs like Sagas.
Personal history time. I started playing with my dad and older brother, using dad's collection from his childhood. Ended up getting a "Fat Pack" of Lorwyn for my birthday one year, back in the days when it came with a booklet detailing all the cards in the set and also a novel detailing the story. After that, I found myself in some drafts with my family and some family friends during Alara. One Christmas, I also ended up with the Chandra half of Duel Decks: Jace vs Chandra. These days, however, I primarily play Commander/EDH, but I dabble in many other formats, at least in theory. I mostly play online, as a few years back, the majority of my play group moved away for some schooling. Used to play a lot on LackeyCCG but now its easier for most of the "local" online group to play through Untap.in as it doesn't require downloads and allows playing with cards as they are spoiled as well as promo versions and such without overwhelming investments. I also used to keep a token binder, as using a proper indicator of what is what is much better than just dice on the table, and they were easy to find and collect your favorite arts. (Until you get into it, anyhow. Then you need the prettier ones.)
With all that said, I hope to become a part of this community! I try to do things right, like proper artist credit and such, but please, let me know anytime you have feedback. I love to hear from people. Feel free to DM me if your feedback wouldn't fit with the thread, I won't mind a bit!
