Some 7 feet tall, with shining armor that seems to have avoided most of the same dirt and grime that coated everything else, he looks over the request board. He grabs a piece of paper from the board and with a grunt, pockets it. The sun gleams off his bronze scales and his large sword upon his back as he strides out of town with a purpose.

Argel may recall a job that had been on the request board, a job about killing off some bugs that had infested a home. Perhaps he'd taken the job, perhaps he'd balked.
Regardless, it seemed the job had come to him.
A black rift tore through the center of the town as people ran screaming. Standing nearly as tall as the dragonborn scuttled around one might call a centipede, though one that seemed to be covered in flesh rather than exoskeleton, and a face, he would notice as it turned to look at him, of simply a drooling ring of razor sharp teeth, winged by cruel pincers. The hundred legs clattered like an entire herd of horses as it ran for him.

Imagine, the praise he would receive upon converting this thing into a trophy. While attempting to flee its pursuit, dodging nimbly up and over things, he made sure to run away from people to try buying them time to flee themselves. " Come get some!" Argel shouted at the grotesque being, making sure its attention stayed on him. Once he was sure he had cleared any space between him and casualities, he turned on a dime, drawing his sword and swinging heavily at the right set of front legs. After it connects or does not, he attempts to roll out of the way, hoping its momentum will carry it a bit further and buy him some more time. But it seemed she had arrived at just the right time. She reaches out towards him, and a stream of green mana follows, growing brighter as it extends from her hand and begins to saturate the dragonborn."Be cautious! "Wasn't expecting help out of anyone from around here." Thinking on it for a moment, Argel comes to a conclusion. "Wait, you're not from around here, are you? Either way, I appreciate the assistance." Hearing the noise behind him, he realized it had not been stopped so easily. Turning around, he readied up again. If the sword would not do the trick against this monstrosity, he would have to try something a bit different. It wasn't his forte, but with help here, perhaps it would be good enough. Standing in the creatures path and holding his ground, he holds his offhand forth as it begins to shimmer blue. With all the mental strength he could muster, he attempted to send the creature back where it came from. Training Spellsword Creature - Dragon Wizard Flash When Training Spellsword enters the battlefield, if you control a creature with at least three level counters, return target creature to its owner’s hand. 2/2 Strength from Elsewhere: 8/10. Decent enough. A common level card unless you meet the condition, but a Giant Growth with upside when you do. And the upside is like to be relevant as Coalesce creatures tend to be heavier on the mana cost, so you would have access to plenty of mana by the time you met the condition.

Simul steps closer, though still keeping her guard up against the possibility of the centipede's focus shifting. Though she clearly dislikes the bug, her gaze has more disdain than horror. "If only I had the time to summon a proper krasis. There's clearly skill in this work, but little sense. No self-respecting Combine biomancer would go to the trouble of removing a perfectly usable exoskeleton like that. Perhaps it simply evolved this way? And yet it was clearly summoned, to disintegrate like that. Tch, too much feels wrong about this."Simul's inner monologue doesn't skip a beat as she calls out to Argel once more."I do not originate in this world, but neither do you, hero. Though, I believe introductions should wait until this bizarre creation is dealt with."Seeing his awkward attempt to push the creature back with a shift towards blue, Simul follows suit, with significantly more grace to the cerulean light that flows towards her hand like an inverted waterfall, then pulses outwards. The plants on her cloak begin visibly growing, weeds push away the cobblestones of the street, and the minds of herself and Argel begin moving at a far faster rate. The wave warps to avoid touching the centipede before it fades away, but anyone else nearby will still feel its reduced effects for a time.

Hero's Blade: 9/10. I'm not the biggest on upgrade generally just for tracking purposes, but this is a clean design. I do like how upgrade promotes swapping this between creatures instead of just leaving it on one, and prowess initially feels out of place, but its as if it counteracts that want to swap to different creatures since you have a payoff on one creature for having too many noncreatures.

It struggled forward against the spell, fighting against the unpracticed spell to stay in this reality. It took another step forward. The blue pulse from the elf sent it ten steps back, its fleshy legs screaming against the stone road. For a moment, the centipede shrieked at the growing holes dissolving into it as the spell burned it away, until its head too became no more.
The banishing spell had done its work, here at least. While the citizens still ran in fear, it seemed that no more creatures waited here. But on the horizon, a towering black rip in reality promised the fight was not over yet... Training Spellsword - funky. think with the mana investment required to get 3 counters this is safe at mv 3, can prob get away with checking for three level counters among all your creatures too. 8/10
Heightened Training - neat level up support, think this'd be safer at mv1 sorcery tho as this can get some wild blowouts with the right levelers. 8/10

She pauses for a moment, trying to think about how crazy what she was about to say was. "The sword itself is a planeswalker. His name is Selem. He decided to stay with me for a bit; I'm not entirely sure why. He left a few nights ago, and I heard that some of the thieves on the road had a new sword that was, well, unusually fancy. He's extraordinarily powerful, both because he's a well-crafted sword and because of all the magic he can do, so I'd really rather he not be in the hands of thieves. From what I can tell, he just wants to be in the hands of the strongest person around, so I figure if you show up and prove yourself then it shouldn't actually be that hard to convince him to leave."

"Let's see. He's very old. I imagine that's where he gets his experience from. He has a tendency to... possess his user, which makes them way safer, and, of course, stronger. One time I got hit by lightning, but he made it not only not hurt, but turned it into an attack. He's also very fast when he wants to be." One of her hands starts playing with her hair, the other clutches at her apron as she looks down. "Again, I'm mostly hoping that it'll be over quickly before he starts trying too hard. Wish I had more than prayers to offer before you leave, but you seem like what you already have is more impressive than whatever I could make."Merovan Trader Creature - Human Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, create a Treasure token. 3/2 "I promise you, what you've offered me already will be indispensable. And I assure you, this is just some run of the mill sword, nothing special. What you make in here," he says gesturing about, "is superior to most of what I work with. That said, I may return one day, sooner rather than later if this armor doesn't hold as well as I hope." Argel turned around and walked towards the door. With a wave of his hand goodbye, he bids farewell. "Well, I'm off. Good luck with your business here. If all goes well, I'll return and inform you." The door closed behind him, he sets off for the town of Merova. He could get there faster, but there was no telling where they were along the way, so he had to do like the old days and walk. He was unsure when the last time he traveled this way all alone was. He was beginning to miss the random chattermouth adventurers he used to bemoan as companions. Lone Hero Creature - Dragon Scout Level up [Level 1+] Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, untap it. [Level 2+] Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, it gains first strike until end of turn. 2/3 Merovan Trader: 9/10. Simple yet sleek.

So, I can't find instances of either of these effects being printed before, not that that's bad. Closest is Rafiq, granted that is double strike and mythic. I worry about having these on the same card, and I do worry about the first strike at uncommon. "Thank you again for taking this on, and if you ever need the sword or armor looked at, I'd be happy to do it."[Close, but invitation to attack my board.]

It was a simple job. Pests were crawling out of a hole in the ground; go in, find the source, deal with it.
Argel didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't this. Corridors of green-black stone, branching paths at seemingly random angles, and: monsters. Proper monsters, not just the grubs he'd been sent to exterminate.
But the strangest part was, even though it only appeared days ago, and even though the entrance was practically a sinkhole, it showed clear signs of having been built. There were rooms that served clear purposes; an altar, a barracks, a latrine... ..And the arena that he currently found himself in, foes swarming on all sides.

A drow with long silver hair and tattered flowing robes muttering incomprehensibly to himself. He carries a piece of yellowed paper and slaps it loudly onto the notice board - "Will pay for information about various tomes, will pay handsomely for the retrieval of said tomes" and where to find him to tell them about the books in question. Much like the paper, the man looked ragged and a bit worn out... could he even have that much money? But a job was a job, right?Sketchy Offer Sorcery As an additional cost to cast ~, sacrifice a creature or pay 2 life. Draw two cards. If you sacrificed a creature to cast ~, learn. There is a new poster pinned to the job board.
MISSING Victor Sondiul Reward if found alive. Said he was investigating some mystery desert no one else could see?
A small but unusual amount of sand is sprinkled on the ground around the board. Credo of the Ruler: Cygari offers a choice• Begin Your Tale by designing a two-color identity card, or • Turn Tail by designing a one- or no-color identity card. Hot Prospects Enchantment - Aura Enchant creature Enchanted creature gets +2/+2 and has haste. Mirage (You may cast this spell as though it had flash for its mirage cost. If you do, sacrifice it at the beginning of the next cleanup step.)

It was always the worst, when a job randomly unfolded into something much worse than you signed on for. He made it a point to never back down, though. Sometimes he regretted being prideful, such as right now. "Back to where you came from!" he shouted, spinning and slashing down one that had gotten too close behind him. (Where did they come from? If he was going to put a stop to this, that was the first step. Find the source. Stop the source. Clean up the-) He ducked and rolled out of the way of a rather large beast, interrupting his thoughts. (First, get out of this forsaken room.) Looking around, he located an exit, the one seemingly where a few more monsters were coming from, and yet his best option. He charged forward, avoiding the few that tried to take a swipe at him as he left his previous spot. Staying low to the ground, he got a bigger monster to take a dive at him. Jumping, he dodged and allowed himself to springboard off this monster and over another. (I have no idea how much further this goes, so I've really gotta preserve energy where possible. Even if it would be relatively easy to just rid myself of these creatures.) He had only just made it to the opening when the monsters he had just agitated in the room began to follow with haste. He didn't have time to weigh his options, he had to go. Rebounding Reptiles Creature - Dragon Warrior Level up [Level 1+] First strike [Level 3+] Whenever ~ attacks or blocks, you may create two 1/1 red and white Dragon Warrior creature tokens. 2/2 A Maze of Monsters: 8/10. Little weird, judging a dungeon for my first time. Glad you considered the dangers of allowing the block fodder to pick up deathtouch. Does still suffer the possible issues of color pie, though the whole dungeon seems to be black-leaning, so perhaps you would account for this anywhere this would be used.

"Note to self: Don't accept contracts from crazy people." - Zejiano, assassin Argel let the man walk away first, then looked closer at the new request. It was easily the most interesting one posted here, but that bar wasn't set terribly high. Turning away from the board, Argel caught up to the man walking away. "Hey, I just seen you post a job on the board and figured I'd catch you while you were here for more details. If you want to talk somewhere not in the street, there's a relatively empty tavern just around the corner."Turn the People Instant This spell costs less to cast if an opponent sacrificed a creature this turn. Create two red and white 1/1 Dragon Warrior creature tokens. Sketchy Offer: 9/10. Love this. Modal Sign in Blood, and saccing the creature lets you learn and see more cards, but ultimately netting less card advantage if you don't have a lesson and only slightly more if you do. Rather strong in limited though, I'd say.

Hot Prospects Enchantment - Aura Enchant creature Enchanted creature gets +2/+2 and has haste. Mirage (You may cast this spell as though it had flash for its mirage cost. If you do, sacrifice it at the beginning of the next cleanup step.)Missing people are usually interesting and almost always accompanied with a reward well worth whatever effort one has to put in. That said, tracking someone in a desert seems like a tall order. Perhaps the reward will be tall too. That said, the only information here was a name, and the presence of a "mystery desert no one else could see." Guess it was time to ask around. Argel pulled the odd poster down and directed himself towards the tavern to see if he could find a lead on a Victor Sondiul or tales of a mystery desert, and follows these leads if he does. Argel begins his tale.
Silent Spellblade Creature - Dragon Rogue Wizard Level up [Level 1+] ~ can't be blocked. [Level 3+] Whenever ~ deals combat damage to an opponent, it deals that much damage to target creature that opponent controls. 2/2 Hot Prospects: 8/10. I like the idea behind it. That said, I dont think red typically gets +2/+2 for 2, but the haste is mostly irrelevant in cases where you're playing creatures on curve.

Well, Argel thinks to himself. That's certainly odd. I feel like I'm being toyed with, or else I'm about to walk into an unmeasured amount of danger. But danger is where the adventure lies and where one truly experiences life. Therefore, it is where you will find Argel, as he ends the conversation, nods, and heads out towards the suspicious oasis in the wintry landscape. Argel takes the Legends's Pass. (Thanks to the Defender of the Realm trophy. I think I was previously waiting to pickup Legendary to respond and then petered out, apologies.)Argel, Armed Adventurer Legendary Creature - Dragon Warrior Level up [Level 1+] Haste [Level 2+] Whenever ~ attacks, he gets +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is the number of cards you've drawn this turn. 3/3
To attempt to race any further card draw this might punish, given it lives. Bury in the Sands: 9/10 Mana value 6 might honestly be too much, but modal cards like this tend to be overpriced a bit to balance it out, so seems good.

As Argel crosses into the sands, the chill wind of winter breaks to a omnipresent heat as the sun stares down on him. Not very deep into the oasis, ruined remnants of buildings begin cropping out of the sands around Argel's path. At closer inspection, some of the stone buildings are collapsed on top of the sands, and others are buried beneath them, with only the top of a door frame peeking out. Looking back, the town Argel had left is still in view, but seems further away than Argel had actually walked.
He can barely hear it on the wind, muffled by the distance and the sand covering the entrance. A cry for help further ahead, perhaps from another ruin poking out of the dunes...
Down the Rabbit Hole Instant Target creature gets -2/-0 until end of turn. This turn, it attacks each combat if able and its activated abilities can't be activated. • Climb the Steps by investigating, or • Climb the Steps by holding back.
Legend's Pass gives a 4/4, tag Argel with the rabbit hole to make it harder to break through it. Argel, Armed Adventurer - argel's base form is real bad, 3/3 haste with nothing else is something you're sad to see on a 3R common and Argel's worth more than that. 7/10

Legend's Pass gives a 4/4, tag Argel with the rabbit hole to make it harder to break through it. Was that a voice? It could be the missing person the poster was talking about, but for some reason, I doubt that. Argel quietly acknowledges his disadvantage here, where steel and lightning will do very little to a pile of sand, at least efficiently, and trudges on towards the voice with his eyes and ears peeled. As he gets closer, Argel will begin to call out himself. "Hello? Is anyone there? Uh, Victor?"Argel investigates.Retreating Epiphany Instant Exile target creature, then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control. If it has Level up, put X level counters on it. All that training... about time it paid off.
( To blink the token) Down the Rabbit Hole: 7/10 While blue can force attacks, I think this gets a little too close to a removal spell, especially for how cheap it is. I also think, if you're casting this on their turn, the activated abilities clause is mostly irrelevant, besides the infrequent sorcery speed activateds I've coincidentally built around. The Looking Glass reference resonates with me though.

"Yes, yes, it is Iiiiiieeee-" A response to the name turned to a scream.
The dune subsuming the entrance left enough of a gap for Argel to look through, but not pass through without some digging. The sand sloped down into a wide opening room, sparsely lit by torches dotted along the furthest wall. The lines of smoke were not drifting from them, however, but the owner of the voice, the presumed Victor.
It may have been a trick of the light and poor angle, but Victor's shape erratically shifted between that of a normal human, and a billowing mass of shadows, each shift to shadows coming with another noise of pain. "Can you get through the sands? They just keep coming and going and going and coming and..."
The faint string of smoke diverted into Argel's face, stinging a bit where it finds eyes, but not scales.
EnchantmentWhen Indict Soul enters, return a creature cards with mana value 4 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield with a finality counter and a haste counter on it. When Indict Soul leaves, sacrifice that creature. Mirage (You may cast this spell as though it had flash for its mirage cost. If you do, sacrifice it at the beginning of the next cleanup step.) Credo of the Ruler - Cygari observes• Enter Cygari's Final Judgment by dealing with the lost soul, or • Enter Soumaw's Final Judgment. Retreading Epiphany - this does limit what level ups you can do a bit but its super cool 10/10

Credo of the Ruler - Cygari observes• Enter Cygari's Final Judgment by dealing with the lost soul, or • Enter Soumaw's Final Judgment. This is either a trap, or a real cry for help. I don't have the experience to tell which so I have to at least try. First up, the sand. Its not the part of the storm he typically harnesses but if he makes an effort, perhaps... Ignoring the sting and raising his sword, a liquid sheen forms as if his blade had been rained on recently. It ever so slowly grows in strength, enveloping his weapon in increasing amounts of water. With one great swing followed by another, airborne waves of water slam into the sand in succession, attempting to wash the blockage away. The conjured water deplenished, Argel makes an effort to get through any progress this might've made. "I'm trying to make it through, just hold on a bit longer!" he reassures the soul. "Is the sand all that's holding you here?"Argel is... attempting to deal with the soul? Not his usual wheelhouse and he's unsure if he could even directly handle magic capable of keeping a soul from moving on. Whatever you want to make of that. Revealing Tide Instant This spell costs X less to cast, where X is the greatest number of level counters among permanents you control. Return target nonland permanent with mana value X or less to its owner's hand. If X is 4 or more, draw a card. Indict Soul: 6/10 You're reaaally stretching the color pie with this one. I'm unsure if Green is allowed to do this. Red having unearth back in the day implies that's certainly fine. Outside of color pie, I like it. Clean, good use of finality.
