The spirits wailed louder as the green mana flowed into the spell, pieces of the hands falling off like dust crumbs from a cave ceiling during an earthquake. The limbs began being pushed down onto the earth again, though the growing cracks on the ground weren't stopping. There was a loud roar, and a wave of heat. A rumble and shaking of the ground greater than the previous.
On the other battlefield, at first Therian was able to keep up. Between the spikes, the claws, and the dagger's tail, but the occasional attack of black mana from the spell, he fended off Tokata's attacks. A club swung down, and claws stabbed onto its side and pushed it away. Though the immaterial nature of the club allowed it to recover, there were still burn marks from the demonic magic that made up the claws.
A stream of fire had to be blocked by black magic.
More attacks. Small dodges, a push from the claws, an attempt at counter-attacking with those in his other hand, a failure as Therian had to pull back immediately to avoid being hit himself.
The tail-horns desperately tried to fend off the blue fog with small hits on his side, and even the horns themselves leaving small cuts on Therian which he tried to ignore.
More club swings, but claws and horns. More and more of the blue fog was hitting Therian. More of his attention subconsciously shifted towards it. Little by little, Ghamawt's know-how of warfare, what skills Tokata might have, and her learning of Therian's enhanced but untrained attacks and defense grew incremental advantage.
Another black spell was needed to cover from the fire stream. The blue fog attacks made Therian dodge immediately after, not properly being able to avoid the following strike, which broke right through his longer tail, and severed the Sandfrost Dagger from him, and another strike struck into the dagger, opening a small crack into it.
Therian screamed. Without the Frostsand Dagger by his side, the knowledge of ancient black rituals it gave him was pulled from his mind in a flash. Ordinarily, this would be manageable from lingering knowledge and simply retrieving the dagger. However, the damage to the artifact, as well as the demonic power infused onto him and the abundance of black mana left his body out of control, a swirl of demonic magic swirling like a hurricane around and within the cult leader."You damned Sa-!" Then, he felt something that gave him an even more pained and shocked expression. Even this turned to greater horror. Therian turned slowly, and he saw a ghostly visage he had hoped not to recognize."Therian...master... must...tell..." The ghost moaned. Therian recognized his first love, the woman who had carried his child. He recognized her too late. Something within him stirred, the feeling he had when he first encountered the monument and believed was a sign the warden he sought was here grew more intense. The markings on his body glowed, followed by the rest of the his body, and he disappeared from that plane for the very first time.
The broken dagger consumed the burst of black mana, and was unable to contain it, releasing it onto the ground. The moment Soumaw and the green spirit were able to push the limbs back under the surface, there was a much greater rumbling than any of the previous. Mortifying Betrayal: 9/10. Only missing the words "Then" and "target" in the second sentence. This is a very cool card tho. As Therian disappeared, the sage stood for a moment dumbfounded. "...We had not pegged the boy for a planeswalker. Interesting. Well, off to the next opponent."The sage stepped forward toward the limbs, trying to stay out of the blast radius for when whatever was down there burst out of the ground. "Do rise, foul creature. It would only make it easier to slay you."The green spirit returned to the sage's side, and the white emerged from beneath her cloak, resulting in all five colors of mana surrounding Tokata. Killing all but the two creatures that will die to Betrayal; the tokens have shroud to make them more difficult to modify; it's "whenever a modified creature dies" for the flavor of like, whenever a creature holding a weapon dies 6 mana seems like about a fair cost for this card (about 3 from each effect), maybe would've put it at one more (while giving your opponent the choice and preserving two whole creatures, this is still kind of a one-sided board wipe), but this works too. My only problem with this card is that the second ability seems quite out of place in it. While I certainly appreciate the attempt to be flavorful here, the fact is the two effects have no synergy (the sacrifice doesn't affect you so it won't kill your own creatures, and modified creatures dying has no relation to your opponent having sacrificed creatures except the counter-synergy of there being less things that can kill your modified creatures). While this can happen of course (see Abzan Ascendancy for a close comparison), it should probably be tied by flavor, but in this case the flavor the mechanics try to convey and relate to the card's name seems like a contradiction. Is the duel what happens or ongoing? Who's it between? The ETB effect suggests it happens as the card enters the battlefield, and the winners or survivors, or perhaps the duel participants, are the two creatures your opponent chose, but the second ability seems to imply the duelists are modified creatures. And how a spirit with shroud comes out of this is anyone's guess. I feel both mechanically and flavor-wise there is a failure of the card in communicating what it wants to be and where it wants to be used, although internally it's a very well balanced card. It also works great as a response to my card and fits the RP well. 8/10.
The ground boiled under the surface, and much like rice over boiling water, the grass and the dirt right underneath it rose and fell as the bubbles of trapped air were released. If the rise of the demon seemed inevitable, and the periodic earthquakes rumbled like a trumphet might announce a procession, the green spirit leaving Soumaw broke the hold into eminence. Soumaw leaped back as It felt the resistance the spirits gave to the limbs wane as both sank deeper inside the surface, only for the biggest of the quakes to shake everything followed by a sudden BURST or rock, dirt, grass, flame, magma and mana as a titanic demon emerged in front of the monument. Magma poured out of its eye sockets and mouth like a jug with a hole on the side, and over its face like a veil. Despite their enormous size on their own, the two arms of the demon were small in comparison with the rest of the body, though the heated claws would surely be no less deadly. Perhaps the saving grace was the demon struggled but failed to release itself further than its waist, unable to use the mana being dissipated from its body to free itself from whatever seal had kept it underground up until now.
Just out of sight of the two planeswalkers, a golden aura covered the monument, each of the flowing lines appearing as an intricate tapestry all on its own, depicting nothing but patterns uncertain to any but its makers.
Soumaw roared at the demon. There was a rare emotion of frustration as Soumaw simultaneously witnessing the demon potentially destroy the very clue It had come seeking, and that It had no method to punish said demon except by its destruction, a sentence far too light. Soumaw called back the spirits It had sent to mind the demon, and projected a wave of force from Its arms using the spirits as fuel. The titanic demon felt little pushback.

Avlost, Pathway's Scourge: 7/10. Cool name, cool art, cool epithet, I get that this is similar to Uro and Kroxa in that you're gonna cast it once from your hand and then once-ish from your graveyard, but I feel like 1. I should be allowed to hardcast it for 11 (by creating the 9/9 Limb token and then sacrificing that), 2. I don't think it's worth 11 mana, and 3. It dies too easy. The Titans don't have hexproof or indestructible or anything, and I'm not saying Avlost should have those, but if they do die, they're relatively easy to cast again. The sage took note of Soumaw's frustrations and limited options, and made it an offer, calling out with a familiar voice: "*Sigh*, This is all getting a little unwieldly, but if you don't eat them, Soumaw, you can use Akwi and Pharisa."
The green and white spirits flew toward Soumaw, the green weaving deep into Soumaw's claws and arms, the white providing protection over Its torso and spreading from Its back into wings, enabling it to strike with many times Its strength wherever It wished upon the demon's massive form. What's our plan of attack? That thing is pretty big and looks pretty sturdy... Surely it would be resistant to fire and any weapon I would give you. Yeah, but Seni's got more than just fire. And Coven's here too! Yes, it will require some... creativity. Whadya got for us, Coven? Any foe has infinite angles by which to strike. Pray, Sage Tokata, grant us three wise men time to deliberate a perfected offensive. Okay, but I don't want the perfect to be the enemy of the good, alright? Just tell me anything that works. Of course. After the moment of consultation with her spirits, the sage dashed around to the side of the emerging demon, throwing short blasts of fire from the red fog toward the demon's face, more as a distraction than anything else. She left a trail of blue fog behind her, leaving one of the trio of masks at her original position, keeping one with her, and leaving the third halfway between them, offering Coven a multi-angle view of their foe. Conjuring Baneslayer Angel, enchanting it with Form to make it big enough to actually kill the demon even if it does already have half of these keywords. If we count the five spirits, that's five enchantments which would make it a 10/10. To be honest, I think this card really really doesn't need to be mythic. While it's definitely got more potential, the first two keywords aren't the strongest and it does need a fair bit of boosting to give a creature all these keywords. Compared to a one mana common like Ethereal Armor, it's definitely better but not to such extent that the second colored mana in the cost doesn't compensate for. The conjured card makes this a better response to be sure given that protection from demons, as otherwise even if you do succeed at temporarily stopping Avlost you'd still be pretty hurt, and lifelink is outright pretty bad against a creature that has "Players can't gain life". This isn't of course to say the entirety of the response card has to be in service of or even compatible as a response to the original card of course, but I do think it's one more thing to add to a response that boils down to "I make a big blocker to block it", which is passable but not the best or most specific kind of response. It's got a nice name though. I give it a 7/10.
"Shall... promise... shall... accept... power..." Soumaw reached out a hand to the incoming spirits. Unlike before, It wasn't draining out the spirit out of someone like when It broke Tokata's angelic form, nor would It embrace the calling of the spirit like when It absorbed Pharisa. That didn't mean It hadn't gotten anything to use from those times though. As though releasing a jet of wind, shadows flew out of Soumaw making a coating of Its mana and a facsimile of the essence of the spell that was Soumaw's origin. Although it wouldn't consume them, the spirits would feel an experience akin to being trapped in a hurricane within this aura, wringing out mana and power for Soumaw to amplify and use with Its soul magic. Once again Soumaw's body grew and began to attain a more bestial and organic-seeming appearance as it took in white mana, but even moreso as the foreign green mana that was more compatible with its fellow spirit's mana was also taken in. Soumaw was even larger than before, sprouted something between wings, fins and coral from Its back, and the snout that had formed morphed again into something more like an insect or a mollusk but definitely neither.
Tokata's attempt at a distraction didn't bear much fruit as the fire simply dissipated onto the enormous demon without fazing it. While it kept an eye on Tokata's activity, however, it was also watching the masks being left behind, and attacked the one that left where she was originally standing by slowly raising a hand and slamming it down onto the masks's position. Though it wouldn't be that complicated to avoid being directly squashed like that, the sheer impact of the magma-covered hand would cause the ground on immediate surroundings to explode outwards, flinging flame, lava and rock from the quickly-formed cracks. The other hand moved over Tokata, forming and dropping down toward the Sage enormously long black whips, probably more akin to puppet strings from the demon's perspective, that wiggled and flailed like living things in their attempts to strike at and grab the mask-maker.
With the metamorphosis complete, Soumaw leaped onto the air and flew down to the demon avoiding its horns and the extremely hot air around the face, and instead sliding down the back and stabbing through its back, ignoring the pain and burns that would pass regardless, causing a growing red line of lava to open it. Despite the size of the two being much closer though, even such a wound was like a crack in rock, like an old scar or a flesh wound.

If it has what is essentially Converge, it should probably be 2G instead of 1GG. Because it's an additional cost to cast I think it would be more proper to copy the spell and choose new targets for the copy, but that's mostly just complaining about syntax. I don't love that this has no effect unless you pay the kicker or cast more than one of them. Once you get more than one it seems fine though. The mask and attached fog flew out of the way of the hand slamming down upon it, and being as small as it was made it easy to avoid the debris. While it did get hit by a drop of magma, the spirit quickly used fog to suffocate any flame. The infernal will grant us no time to prepare, and the creature Soumaw attacks from the rear. Very well. Sage Tokata, here is what you must do...
Tokata was grabbed by the blue trail and flung away from the whips, up into the air. The black fog emerged, forming a pair of wings for the sage, as the blue rushed back towards her. She gestured with one of the clubs as though it were a wand, waving it in half a dozen small, quick circles, and as each circle was completed, a small red bolt fired off slowly toward the demon's face, taking wildly different courses to come from different directions. Upon impact, each bolt would make an explosion that was bright and loud, if otherwise ineffective. As the bolts flew, however, Tokata drew the two clubs together and began charging a spell of blue mana, also aimed for the demon's face. Omniprong Offensive Enchantment Whenever you cast or copy a noncreature spell, put your choice of a +1/+1 counter, a flying counter, or a haste counter on up to one target creature. A very very good response indeed, both addressing the card's specifics and being well streamlined. It's also extremely fitting for the RP, so it's got those two angles covered right off the bat. As for balance, I think it's good, a haste counter might be a little too strong but honestly there's a big inconsistency in power level between some of the core comparisons like Showdown of the Skalds and Primeval Bounty, so in net I'll go with my gut and say its good. 10/10 As expected, the multiple red bolts had little impact on the demon. The various flares burst into Avlost's body, and though there was bright light the lava-pouring eye sockets didn't even give the semblance of a blink or a reaction to blinding. The loud sounds alone elicited a reaction, though it was merely one of shaking its head somewhat to determine the direction of the loud noise and whether there were any other, or any actual, present threats. With a thunderous rumble the demon opened its mouth in a gap and rose the hand with the black whips, throwing them upwards at Tokata. Its other hand moved by instinct as well, spraying a rain of lava.
Avlost shook. Ignoring the mosquito bite that Soumaw's attacks, even empowered, had proven to be was doable for a time, but anyone would soon begin to grow uncomfortable and tired of attempting. The titanic monster grabbed its own chest and seemingly pried it open, releasing a number of flaming skeletal spirits with what appeared to be the shades or rotten rags and long-rusted chains. They burst out of the demon and flew in every direction, seeking out enemies with pained moans with whom to share their suffering.
Soumaw's body seemed to take a more aerodynamic shape as It slimmed down into something almost worm-like before It shot out in Tokata's direction, turning around in between her and Avlost before changing once again, this time morphing and expanding Its body into something wall-like yet covered in maws. Many of the spirits sought out or were unable to stop themselves from colliding with Soumaw, and others yet were caught by the tendrils and arms that the planeswalker unleashed from Its body like a chameleon would shoot outs its tongue. The caught spirits flailed and shot out flames even as they sunk deeper as though into quicksand.

The art does not suggest flying, and I think as far as things that reanimate themselves, this is pushing it a little. Tokata continued charging what would become an icy blast, taking note of the demon mostly ignoring the attacks on its eyes and opening its chest. Well, if it wants to give me a better target, who am I to disagree?
A blast of blue fog shot toward the demon's open chest, weaving around Soumaw where it had to. Upon reaching it, it would fire a blast of cold air and ice into its chest, aiming to freeze its molten core. She then dismissed one of her clubs, and began shooting threads of white mana toward any spirits uncaught by Soumaw, using traditional hieromancy to bind them as the threads wrapped around and immobilized the spirits, as even if they could fly away, the threads refused to move. Soulchainer's Form Enchantment - Aura Enchant creature As ~ ETB and whenever enchanted creature attacks, you may pay . If you do, exile X target cards from a single graveyard and put X +1/+1 counters on enchanted creature. Bind Even ignoring the additional bonus of exiling cards from a graveyard, X effects to put +1/+1 counters are valued more expensively than this without drawbacks that directly impact the costs. There's Hero of Leina tower, whose ability requires you to have cast a spell, in most cases meaning you've already spent some of your mana. While this is a creature, this also means these counters aren't going on a creature that can't use them better (and the bonus from an aura's simultaneous dependence on a creature and itself for its effect I feel is less meaningful on an effect like this that is permanent even if the aura is removed). Sequence Engine is more permanent than this aura due to being an artifact, and makes bodies, but also has the extra cost of finding a creature with the right mana value in your graveyard, otherwise it's effect is just producing these counters and its MV is 3. Waker of the Wilds is like an in-between of the two previous and is both more cost upfront and extra per ability activation. The long story short is I think your card is underpriced. extra would probably do if leaving the card a little pushed. The card works alright in terms of being a response and fits the RP decently as well. 8 10/10. Edit: Re-adjusting the score as the targeting makes all the difference in the power of this card.
The demon growled in pain at Tokata's attacks, but was set little aback even by the truest strikes of Tokata's spell. What frost formed was quickly melted and swiftly evaporated moments after, leaving only steam to mark it'd ever been there. The demon closed up its chest again and clawed embers and ash out of its own arms, before releasing them into a cloud expanding around it, almost seeking out those around the demonlord to swallow them, akin to an enormous swarm of hungry mosquitos. Aside from the heat and haze and lack of visibility, the ash's presence stroke at the soul and filled the mind with promises of power even as it tormented them. It was a simple offer: Side with Avlost, or the suffering would only grow. It wasn't just Tokata or Soumaw, but every single spirit there, each of Tokata's masks, and even the damned that Tokata had bound felt themselves burning further with some additional power and began to gradually manage to free themselves of their bindings.Soumaw was hit especially hard. As an amalgam of spirits and souls, each one being tormented by the ashes, Soumaw was swarmed with ruinous pain and a cacophony of voices calling out to It to accept the offer. However, Soumaw was also used to such things, to such voices and such cacophony. They were a little louder, a little more restless, a little more than usual. But in the end, they were a part of Soumaw, and souls too broken to truly have a will left, shadows of their former selves. A thought from Soumaw brought them to silence, though it didn't ease the ashe's promised pain. Further, even if it could outlast this, the demon's enormous size had time and time again proven to be a problem. Soumaw flew out of range of the ashes, with or without the help of the spirits that Tokata lent him (depending on how the demonic ashes were affecting them) and shouted out to the mask-maker as soon as it could."Plan!... Must... bring..." How could It speak of this? A word was missing within. A way to specify what it needed. Yet, if Soumaw didn't, the battle might drag on to the point of the monument being irreparably damaged. As It tried to scour through those final words It had access to, something else spoke to It from inside. A tugging, familiar yet strange, in Soumaw's soul... no. Not a soul, but the closest thing Soumaw had to something so central, aside the nature of Its spell of origin: The spark. "Bring the blue one!... Will use... for plan." Soumaw reached out a hand, hoping Tokata would have understood what It was requesting.

Neither board wipes nor mind control normally appear as instants. Otherwise it's cool. The sage laughed to herself as the demon forced itself into her mind. "Side with you? And do what, wander the countryside torturing random people? Gods, why can't the powerful just relax?" The magic by which her spirits were bound proved stronger than Avlost's temptation. Offer of Torment: 7/10. This should not be an instant. Do we trust this creature?Well, It hasn't done anything to Akwi or Pharisa yet.But could you overpower it with merely Seniton and myself?Oh, it won't have to come to that. I hope. Are you sure this is a good idea?Do you have a better one?...That's what I thought, I'm doing it.
The sage relented, and the blue fog and its masks flew toward Soumaw.
Vow of the Sage Enchantment - Aura Enchant creature Enchanted creature gets +2/+2. Whenever enchanted creature attacks, you and that creature's controller each draw a card. Enchanted creature can't attack you or planeswalkers you control.
Ok bet you can have the creatureA very nice response. I like the flexibility of strengthening your own creature or giving it to an opponent to benefit from them using their creature as well. I believe the ruling is that if you control this, you still only draw 1 card when it attacks, otherwise this price would probably be far too low for drawing two cards on attack (especially by contrast with dealing damage to a player), but I'm not being able to find the ruling so I'll go with the charitable take. 10/10
Seeing what that neither the planeswalker nor the bound spirits had responded to its call and nor fallen to the torment, Avlost raised its arms towards them in an attempt to grab Soumaw and Tokata with its humongous hands. Lava was flung in each direction as the arms rose, and as they approached longer but more slender arms sprouted from the side like a tree branching out, glowing red hot without the earthen coating of most of Avlost's "skin". At the speed they grew the slenderer arms would pass them and surround them, caging them in to prevent them from escaping the demon's hold."SHANT REACH! THE PATH SHANT BE OPEN!" The words from the demon stroke them in a wave of hot air that would have blown away any birds flying where it passed. Perhaps crushed their bones if they were small enough.
Soumaw got to work the instant Tokata's blue spirit reached It. It channeled out a gale of souls from within Itself onto Its right hand, and dipped it inside the fog on Its left. The air seemed to reverberate and distort like looking through water or a glass, the vision of Soumaw and the spirits splitting before rejoining together as the souls Soumaw brought began to attain a blue hue, followed by a fog-like appearance, a duplicate of Tokata's spirit. It was mostly just a duplicate in form, but close enough in nature for Soumaw's purposes. It began to channel a blue spell through the spirit on each hand, the spell itself becoming empowered greatly by the two and causing a faint blue aura to appear around titanic demon.
Moments before its hands reached Soumaw and Tokata, their altitude begun to lower, as did their height, width, all its size beginning to rapidly shrink. While it remained nearly as tall as a giant, no longer did it have its absolutely titanic stature."YOU CANNOT BE WITHOUT US!"

We need more "if [colors] were spent to cast this" and Adamant in magic, I think they're very cool. Had to look up state based action rules to figure out whether a Mask token would die because of the word "then" in Duplicate Haunt (it shouldn't) The conjure had me confused because I thought both of them would have the same target which would result in also copying Dwindle. As the arms closed in to surround the pair, the black fog sphere that had previously been created around the combatants also closed in, to at least slow the arms. Any arms that touched fog would be stabbed by an army's worth of spears and blades, based by shields, and cut by axes. "Could just be me, but I think we've been alright without you so far. Soumaw?"Tokata flew down towards the now-shorter demon and began throwing additional threads at the demon to pin it down for Soumaw. While thin, the threads would prove both as heavy and as strong as large iron chains. Form of Forms Enchantment - Aura Enchant creature Enchanted creature is an artifact Mask in addition to its other types, and gets +1/+1 for each Mask you control. Bind

It works pretty well as a response, and the effect is balanced when you consider it's restricted to Masks, a card type that pretty much only exists through your bind keyword, so there'd be a pretty limited selection. Not as great fit for the RP and I really feel it could use some flavor text to make some sense of what is going on with it, (especially since you don't make renders for battleboards, so it doesn't have the help of an image either). 9/10
Soumaw nodded to the question, but didn't respond. The questions were starting to grow inside Its mind. 'The path shant be reached', the demon had spoken. The prophecy spoke of a path as well, and the place Soumaw wanted to reach. The source of that great prey... Had they sealed this demon? How long had it been sealed? The true nature of the guiding stones - and this monument - had long since been forgotten, if ever it had been known. 'The path shant be open'. Was the demon some manner of guardian, a defense against someone like Soumaw?
In the first place... was it truly even talking to them ?
The reduction in size seemed to have done wonders. Even with the immense heat of the demon's body, smoke rising from the threads upon mere contact, their magic was able to hold down Avlost's movements significantly, barely letting it move. There was no time for self-inquiry. This was the right opportunity. Leaving the blue spirit and its duplicate to maintain the spell, Soumaw swooped down with the wings provided to It by the white spirit, and rose the claws empowered by the green spirit, slashing into and prying open the demon. Avlost roared in pain, blowing steaming hot air at Soumaw's face, some flames appearing on the more organic body and revealing the mass of shadows underneath.
Soumaw opened it's maw, growing like a snake's, and bit down onto the demonlord's center, ignoring the pain and heat. Avlost shouted and tried to struggle, but was unable to do much with the weight of the chains. Its body began to melt down and break down into ashes, flame and magma. For Soumaw, surviving relatively unharmed came at the price of having to shed itself from the binding of the white and green spirits and the form thus granted, but fortunately it seemed the battle was over.
Soumaw walked over to the monument, the intricate golden aura around it seeming to fade as the demon was defeated. Placing a hand upon the monument, Soumaw searched within for the same place that allowed it to resonate with a Guiding Stone before, flashing images of a golden pathway, of builders clad in wonderous armor, travelling the multiverse through gateways in a time when such was not a fatal endeavor in itself. The final vision made Soumaw crack something resembling a grin.
He had found the next guiding stone's location."Thank...you..." Soumaw told Tokata after a glance.

So... it does a lot of different things and is a little awkward with all of them. It's grave hate but only for creatures, it's Spine of Ish Sah but only for creatures and probably more expensive. And it's an artifact tutor but unreasonably expensive. Like, I see this being played most often as like, a 1 or 3 mana version of Urza's Saga. Which, actually, could be cool in Modern or something. 2 mana "kill Ragavan" then 1 mana "go get your Walking Ballista" The demon bitten in half, Tokata breathed a sigh of calm, and dismissed the red and black spirits from herself, taking off her scorched mask, calling the black fog back into it. Similarly, with Awkiton and Pharisa freed from Soumaw, she called them back to her, and Coven returned after finishing the spell. Those spirits whose masks were small enough hid themselves under Tokata's cloak, leaving the red and green clouds hovering above and behind her. "No problem! Well, ok, a fairly large problem, cuz of the demon, but with that cult running around, it was going to need to be taken care of sooner or later. So I helped you find the monolith, you helped me kill the demon, it all worked out fine, I think, I'd say we're even. Glad you found whatever it is you were looking for."She looked down at herself and saw that over the course of the fight she had been coated in an obvious amount of ash. "Well, I should probably go clean up." She turned to leave, then hesitated and turned back to Soumaw, but did not look at It: "I, uh, hate to leave on a low note like this, but you uh, kinda ate a lot of people, and I get that it was a life or death situation, and they maybe couldn't be swayed, but if I hear through the 'multiversal grapevine' that you're running around eating innocents, I am going to have to come find you in a less friendly way. I don't want to have to do that, I imagine you probably don't want that, so just... food for thought."Glorious Congregation Enchantment When ~ ETB, destroy target permanent. Whenever a nontoken creature would die, exile it instead. If you do, create two tokens that are copies of it except they're Spirits in addition to their other types. "For as glorious as we are in life, you shall be twice so in death."

Glorious Congregation Enchantment When ~ ETB, destroy target permanent. Whenever a nontoken creature would die, exile it instead. If you do, create two tokens that are copies of it except they're Spirits in addition to their other types. "For as glorious as we are in life, you shall be twice so in death."
Whatever Pathway kills, we make a token copy of it. Tried finding examples for comparison of the second ability, but they basically all downgraded the card to a 1/1 or in some other fashion, plus they only made one copy. Destroying the permanent would be easier to find examples for, but to be honest it's almost secondary in a card this powerful. I say almost because in effect it also means that if you blow up a creature with it this card has immediate impact as a 3-for-1, giving two whole copies of the creature (or one if legendary). Cards at this high a mana cost are pretty hard to judge and I'm fairly certain that in most cases it's going to be cheated out if at all possible. Maybe in a format like commander you'll have the time and ramp to play it normally, but in most cases it's probably too costly to see play without the aforementioned cheating it out - but then, when it does see play, it's almost certainly going to be quite brutal. All in all, very hard design to judge. I think it works as a response, and I guess it also works for the roleplay if we stretch it a bit. I'll give this design an 8/10.
Soumaw did look at Tokata. It stared at her.
It had now become clear that despite Soumaw's efforts, their... relationship, one could suppose it could be called had broken down, for whatever reason, and though there was no immediate hostility Soumaw was no longer in the mask-maker's good graces. Perhaps the deaths even outside of Tokata's sight bothered her still. Her words certainly seemed to suggest as much. And yet one thing that hadn't changed since Soumaw's origin that driving purpose, the hunt for its prey to take into Itself. It moved for that purpose, and even the very thing it sought from Tokata was all in the name of that greatest prey, hidden away somewhere only the prophesized guiding stones could reveal. Soumaw would continue Its hunt, and hiding it would be a pointless charade.
Soumaw approached Tokata, towering over her, and leaned closer."Many worlds... many... deaths... you... do not... stop them... worse... kill... no... purpose... simply... kill..." Though Soumaw lacked a word to describe the killing of so many, more than one could count, more than even It could harvest the souls of in such short a time. "I...hunt... I....fulfill...purpose... They...slaughter...obliterate... many... deaths... Why... stop... me... Mask-maker... You shall not... stop... me...you...do not...stop them..."There was still a chance - remote though it might be - that things would remain, if not amicable at least with room to negotiate in the future for more information. Without unreasonable demands like the one Tokata was making, that is. Even if not, Soumaw wasn't sure if It could avoid having to return here. Not the plane known as the Arena, that had too much yet left unexplored to not return. Returning here, though, to this site would be far more troublesomeone with Tokata's hostility.
The other planeswalker's true capabilities were still unknown to Soumaw as well, and even if Soumaw was capable of resisting them the mask-maker's own manipulation of spirits had been able to affect It.
Thus, Soumaw would refrain from attacking to eliminate this possible threat. Provided that threat didn't prove to be an immediate one, that is."The... hunt... shall...continue..." The shadow planeswalker announced. "The prophecy... fulfilled."

The shadow planeswalker announced. "The prophecy... fulfilled." Unrelenting Hunt: 9/10. On the one hand, this makes me nervous about aristocrats because it gives double death triggers, even if they get exiled after. On the other this is a very cool flavorful way for green to deal with multiple creatures at once (your big thing fights their big thing, dies, then comes back to fight a second thing.) It's cool, I like it. Tokata sighed, knowing that, in a sense, they were both right. "There's a bit of a nuance to it. I... Many people die on many worlds, and I don't stop them. Not because I don't want to, but because I can't be everywhere at once. And if I made it my job to stop everyone from dying all the time, I'd never run out of work. But those who do die should be able to rest. Killing people is one thing, which is bad, but eating or stealing or whatever it is you do with their souls afterwards is just... a different kind of bad. And I know," she raises her hands guiltily, "that I also deal with spirits, and do... technically bind them to my will, but those spirits that I do deal with either agree to it first or are the type that would cause far more destruction if left to their own devices." she pulls the charred, black mask of Ghamawt from her cloak, "Like this one. Plus, I make a point to be friendly with them either way."
She puts the mask back, and looks down. "I get that you've gotta eat. One the one hand, you're a danger to both the bodies and souls of those around you. By all means, I should stop you now. But, whatever your reasons, you did help defeat that massive demon who I assume would've killed way more people. And for that, I'll at least give you a headstart."

Toughness buffs to help prevent whatever you're fighting from dying. Other than Flowstone Hellion, cards that can shift their power into toughness or vice versa (usually vice versa) usually require you to pay mana to do so. Whether this is balance or just to make infinite combos harder I'm not aware, but even assuming shifting power into toughness is weaker than the reverse, it seems to be valued somewhat significantly, especially given you can do it for free. On the other hand, I think one would be hard pressed to argue this is much stronger than a Hard Cover. I think this is functional as a response, and works decently for RP. I do love the thematic side of the response though, in the name in particular! I'll award this a 9/10.
It wasn't even the killing that the mask-maker opposed, but the taking of the souls? Was it better to be bound to its own regrets and the land upon which it dwelled in death? Or to dissipate into nothingness? No, it was wasted effort to search for meaning there.
Still, if she wanted Soumaw to ask, it was a risk, but perhaps one worth taking. Soumaw searched for the words Tokata had spoken "friendly" or "agree", but couldn't find them. Nonetheless It could feel certain words coming to It by instinct."Will... try... Soul... Ask...Deal..." With that said, Soumaw turned and walked away, glancing in the direction of the town they'd met in, and then at the monument on the ground. The mask-maker wasn't a threat. Not an immediate one.
It closed Its eyes, and planeswalked away leaving only a quickly-vanishing burst of black smoke.

A small tale was passed down on certain places in the arena, brought in by frightened and listless people wearing cloaks and bearing scars from self-inflicted wounds or from burns of demonic fire. They pleaded and begged for scraps, and a few managed to return to old trades. Others earned what bread they could by occasional coin toss as they recited with horror the story of one terrifying afternoon, mixing a benevolent mask maker, an angel that stood in judgement to them, and a monster of darkness that even consumed the demons themselves, as though the abyss that tired of waiting and walked to them. Were the stories to be believed, they were but one entity, sometimes in different forms, sometimes simply mixed together.

Planeswalker tutor could be 1 mana. Final chapter is just Reanimate that includes artifacts, probably could still be one mana. Second chapter idk. Worst case scenario it's Raise the Alarm, best case you get a very big demon. The third one could be its own card that costs 3 mana. Overall, I love the saga, love most of the effects, love the summary of the adventure Tokata and Soumaw went on, but it's too cheap. Tokata smiled at Soumaw's words. It's not every day that one of her attempts to persuade people actually works. A moment after Soumaw left, Tokata disappeared in her own cloud of smoke. She did not leave the Arena quite yet, as she imagined Soumaw had, instead taking the next couple of days to pack up her things in the morning and afternoon and spend her evenings at taverns, regaling the other patrons with her own version of the tale of the Hellbrought's Downfall: the initial danger of the creature known as Soumaw, the uncertain alliance as they travelled to the cultists' lair, and the heroic victory against both Therian, who was banished into the void, and the demon he had summoned. When she did finally bid the village goodbye, she was vague about where she was going, saying only that she was "Off to go check on a friend of mine! She's getting herself into dangerous territory. Nothing she can't handle, just wanna make sure she's alright."Exaggerated Doubling Enchantment Whenever a nontoken creature enters the battlefield under your control, create a token that's a copy of it except it's an Illusion in addition to its other types and it has "if this creature would become the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice it." and "When this creature is dealt damage, sacrifice it." "The stories of my death were... greatly exaggerated."
Narratively, Tokata left the Arena to check on Atlani but mechanically I'm not reincarnating yet. If it turns out she's caught up in interactions that start back up, she'll still be there.

For some time, Soumaw remained weary of Tokata, and though it eventually subsided, it wasn't as though Soumaw entirely lost that experience as one of the reasons to look over Its shoulder. It would also have to build up Its gathering of souls to strengthen Itself and attain greater skills and knowledge, both for the potential confrontation and for what Soumaw had now to do. Even if Soumaw knew the location of the next guiding stone, reaching it might be easier said than done.
The hunt continued.

The card fits the roleplay well, and it works relatively well with the various chapters. It's not immediate, but it can copy warlocks to buff your demon, give you more creatures to attack with on III and copy whatever you bring back on IV. Considering cards like Bramble Sovereign, Flameshadow Conjuring, Necroduality and Minion Reflector, I think your card should have you pay something for the copy, even with the illusion downside. Afterall the Flameshadow conjuring also only has the creature last one turn, as does Minion reflector, and both charge you, though both also give haste. This is probably meant to prevent certain combos or broken effects like a creature that can flicker a creature as an ETB. Other than that, I think it's a pretty balanced card, though that is a relatively big deal. I'll give it an 8/10. (and with that, I would end this interaction)

A figure seems to emerge from nowhere in the middle of the tent, filled to the brim with masks. The figure reaches up and touches it's own golden mask, seemingly in thought. "All so unique... and yet their jobs are uniform. To express a feeling, a desire, something words may fail to explain." A disc of white light emerged in the rolling hills of the Arena, starting as nothing but a point and growing to be just big enough for the figure to walk through: A man with short, messy hair, golden eyes, and a chiseled jaw. Sprouting from his shoulder blades were a pair of tawny wings, reaching from his calf to just above his shoulder when furled. Dressed in the clothes of a particularly gentlemanly scout, and carrying a large, gilded bow in one hand, the figure ran the other through his hair before taking in his surroundings.
"Well, well, well. What a pretty place this is."
He pulled a small leatherbound journal from the inside pocket of his jacket, and began sketching down notes as his wings unfurled and took flight.
"Let's try and find the ugly of it."
