From one into another, into something more still: welcome to the Segue Game! This is a rolling game - it goes post by post, and you can drop in at any time. Here's the deal: - You start by giving the card above yours a rating out of 10 and a brief critique - a couple of sentences will do, but you're welcome to go more in-depth if you like.
- That card will have been accompanied by two restrictions, such as "Aura or Equipment" or "Manipulates counters". You will make a single card that fits both of these restrictions and post it.
- Then, at the end of your post, you'll post the second restriction from the last post as the next poster's first restriction, and then a new one of your own choice as the second.
A few rules: - Challenges should not request more than one card.
- Challenges based on specific third-party IPs or real-world elements are discouraged, in case respondents don't know what you're talking about. If you insist on posing one of these, please make sure to provide an alternative challenge alongside it.
- You cannot respond to your own challenge, or the challenge set by someone responding to your own challenge. Basically, wait at least two posts between entries.
- In the event of a "ninja", i.e. two people posting responses to the same challenge in quick succession, the first poster's challenge takes precedence, but the next poster is encouraged to rate both.
I'll get us started! Up: (This is where I'd critique the previous challenge if there was one.) X/10. Curse of the Black Spot Enchantment - Aura Curse Enchant player Creatures attacking enchanted player have deathtouch. "May the old gods of the Free Cities have mercy on your soul." - Wyett, Fathom Fleet sorcererOld: Aura or Equipment. New: Manipulates counters.

Up: Powerful but probably fine - I think this is good. 9/10. Mantle of the Leech Enchantment - Aura Enchant creature When CARDNAME enters the battlefield, move any number of counters on target creature onto enchanted creature. Enchanted creature has lifelink and is a Leech in addition to its other types. Old: Manipulates counters. New: Common.

Up: My big complaint is that this card does nothing if the types of counters it replaces are incompatible; charge counters on a nonartifact or age counters on something without cumulative upkeep. Also, it's a pity this doesn't have flash or otherwise you could use it to instantly kill any animating planeswalker. Still, lots of Johnny fun with this guy. 8/10 Rhet-Crop Artilerist Creature- Human Warrior ~ enters the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it. :, , Remove a -1/-1 counter from ~: ~ deals 2 damage to target creature. 3/2 Old: Is Common New: monocolored with a mutlicolored color identity

Up: Eh...could easily be mono white activation cost if it weren't for the restrictions of the challenge. 6/10 Impulsive Courier Creature - Human Wizard Rogue When ~ enters the battlefield, exile the top X cards of your library face down. (You may look at them at any time)If you would draw a card, you may add one of the cards exiled with ~ to your hand instead. 2/2 Old: Cares about face-down exiled cards New: is common or uncommon

Up: It doesn't fulfil the "Old" challenge. I like the idea of the card. I just think it's more of a blue thing than a red. Also, two template issues: 1) "You may look at them at any time." shouldn't be a reminder. Usually when you exile cards face down, you can't look a them. 2) You don't add cards to your hand, you put them into your hand. Oblivion Singer Creature - Merfolk Shaman :uncommon: T: Each player exiles the top card of his or her library face down. T, turn a card face-down exiled card face up: Add one mana of that card’s colors. 1/1 @some moderator: I don't want to get on your nerves and you've probably read it a hundred times by now, but the tap symbol smiley doesn't work. It's also just an emty space in the smileys list. Old: is common or uncommon New: Has the word "control" in it's text box.

Oblivion Singer: This cars feels clunky. Having two abilities and caring about flipping exiled cards feels rare at least to me. This also makes for confusion for new players as to why you can’t look at the cards before you flip them to know what mana you’ll get, or what happens if you flip a colourless card. It is an innovative way to spice up a mana fork though. 6/10 Bastion Sentry Creature - Human Soldier Battalion Sentry gets +1/+1 and has vigilance as long as you control a fortified land. 1/1 Old challenge: Your card has the word “control” in its text box! New challenge: Your card has the word “Mind” in its name!

Bastion Sentry: Hubba-bubba ... Daddy likes. I think you could even get away with having this be a 1/1 with Vigilance and gets +1/+1 if you control a fortified land. 10/10 Hijack Mind Enchantment Each player exchanges control of their library with the player to their left for as long as ~ is on the battlefield. Old: Your card has the word “Mind” in its name! New: Vegan Diet. Your card is Vampire. ((Doesn't need to be mono-green)) ~Zuty

I've just now read it for the first time, tbh It actually works just fine for me, either by clicking from the list or typing manually. Does it still continue to not work for you (a.k.a. has it been a temporary issue)? Test: ,

Connoisseur of Mind and Body Creature - Vampire (or , not entirely sure) Deathtouch Whenever a creature dies the same turn it was dealt damage by ~, reveal the top card of your library. Put it on the battlefield tapped if it's a land card. Otherwise, put it into your hand. 1/1 Next:Old: Is a vampire. (Doesn't have to be mono- ) New: Uses a keyword ability not typically found in or .

Above: I haven't played Archenemy in a long time, so I'm not sure how balancing works for this one. It looks good for the early game, letting you power out some midrange threats, then in the late game lets you dump your hand without fear of counterspells or spot removal. I'd be wary of this comboed with sac outlets, but those are few and far between and if you're building your entire deck around a single scheme good luck.
My Legions Grow In Vastness Scheme When you set this scheme into motion, choose a creature type. For each creature you control of that type, you may search your library for a creature of that type and put it onto the battlefield.
Old: Tribal. New: Has a creature type not yet printed.

Up: Seems strong, however which Scheme doesn't? A nice design. Protector’s Harbinger Creature – Dolphin Other Dolphin creatures you control get +1/+1. Whenever an opponent casts a spell that targets you or a permanent you control, create a token that’s a copy of Protector’s Harbinger. Their numbers grow as the presence of hopelessness fell.2/2 Old: Has a creature type not yet printed. New: Has level up.

UP: How do we get rid of this with single target removal? At least this lands on the turn boardwipes happen. Potentially impossible to get rid of specially for midrange and aggressive strategies. Not sure if will warp a format, but it is pretty close in my opinion. Stregma Trainee Creature - Alien Level up 1/2 Level 2-4 Skulk, Hexproof from green 1/4 Level 5+ Devoid, Intimidate, Hexproof 4/4 Old: Has Level UpNew: Dark Nights: Metal (If you have no idea): Messes with your mana as power balance.

Up: Seems a bit weak, especially for a . I guess the first step can begin at level 1. The jump from skulk to intimidate is a bit weird. Darksteel Colossus can't block it on 2-4, but can block it on 5+? Maybe just make it unblockable? I googled what Dark Nights: Metal is. Sorry, I don't read Marvel. Landslide Elemental Creature - Elelemental Trample Level up— , Sacrifice a land. 1/1 Level 2-4: Trample, first strike Landslide Elemental‘s base power and toughness are equal to the number of land cards in all graveyards. */* Level 5+: Trample, double strike Landslide Elemental‘s base power and toughness are equal to the number of land cards in all graveyards. */* Yes, that's a very cramped text box. Darksteel Colossus can't block it on 2-4, but can block it on 5+? Maybe just make it unblockable? I googled what Dark Nights: Metal is. Sorry, I don't read Marvel. Yeah, I am still figuring out balance for cards. {Flavor Ramble} Yeah, I know. It is because the card is training to become a sort of leader. So it has skulk at the beginning so it can survive war and also because it does not understand how to use h is position as a source of inspiration and fear. So most of the trainees live longer if they just keep low, and do not become a target of enemy fire. Also, it was a comment on how little damage they can do as trainees.
Intimidate was because they finish their training. Baking Being able to command their full experience makes them more aurvivible and using their position they can intimidate their opponents into opening a path.
Yeah, there is maybe too much lore behind the card for just this post.
Two reasons why I did not want full unblock ability, one the new phrasing makes it cumbersome. Two, as my design brain is still in training I tend to prioritize flavor. I would have gone for fear, but wizards stopped using it in favor of intimidate. Even then, they prefer menace, so yeah. Maybe change some things to make this more consistent. But that is prob for another post.

UP: A 1/1 with trample feels very, very bad. This sould probably keep the same stats and have "This creature gets +1/+1 for each land card in your graveyard" if Dominaria is any indication (as Magic is trying to move away from */* statlines). I don't think paying and sacrificing a land is enough to make one-sided <<Terravore>> with first strike enticing: and of course, if this gets removed it'll feel terrible. ~~ Pitfall Instant Sacrifice any number of lands. Target opponent sacrifices that many creatures. Watch out for falling rock climbers.OLD: Messes with your mana as power balance. NEW: Enemy colors.

Perhaps sorcery speed, or require untapped lands in exchange for a cheaper casting cost? 8/10 Compost Heap Enchantment Whenever you tap a land for mana, sacrifice it. Up: It seems interesting but ultimately not too helpful towards you. 7/10 The Epic Experiment Enchantment - Saga I and II: Exile cards from the top of your library until you exile an instant or sorcery. You may cast that card this turn. Put all other cards exiled this way onto the bottom of your library in a random order. III: You may cast instants and sorceries from your graveyard this turn without paying their mana costs. If any of those cards would be put into your graveyard this turn, exile them instead. Old: Make a Saga New: Involves Goats

UP: The cost is high, you might never get to cast anything the first turn. The second turn you also pray to get something good. You cannot put too many instant or sorceries in your deck or you hit things you do not want. Too many instants and sorceries and you risk milling yourself out. It is a worse Epic Experiment which is good. The exile clause is nonbo with the last ability. It is a rare, and sometimes sets needs not so good rares. Other than that it is interesting, with a little change it migh be incredibly powerful, and it is hard to balance cards that tutor. 7/10 Phrixus' Escape Enchantment - Saga I: Create a 0/1 green Goat creature token with named Golden Goat. II: Create a 1/1 white Human creature token named Phrixus III: If you control a creature named Phrixus sacrifice a Golden Goat. If you do create a 5/5 red Dragon and three 3/3 red Ox creature tokens. Hard to find images of this guy. Right, the myth is obscure. This guy is the person who placed the golden fleece on the tree. He was the son of a king and a goddess. The king married someone else and the goddess left and placed a curse on the kingdom. The second wife convinced the king that a sacrifice would be the way to appease Poseidon. Prixus was the chosen sacrifice. His mother came to him with a golden ram to save his life. So he and his sister flew over the sea. Sister fell and died. Prixus finally made it to a temple of Apollo's and sacrificed the ram to return it to Poseidon. The fleece he hung on a tree in Ares' favorite garden. Where it is guarded by bronze bills that spit fire and a never Sperling dragon. Old: Involves Goats New: Involves Elves (has to have the word elf or elves somewhere.)

UP: Pretty good flavor. Simple an concise too. There is not much to say about it. I am not sure on the ability cost as it seems a little on the expensive side but balanced at the same time. Maybe fits in a mutant tribal for limited, not sure. Pretty solid from what I can see. I am pretty sure there exists a card that uses Phylactery counters and is a 4/4 or greater. So let's take this in another yet similar direction. Voldy Moldy Legendary Creature - Human Wizard ~ enters the battlefield with eight phylactery counters. When Voldy enters the battlefield and at the beginning of your upkeep move a phylactery counter to another permanent. If Voldy would die, if another permanent had a phylactery counter, move that phylactery counter onto Voldy instead. 4/4 Not sure if this even works as intended. Old: uses phylactery counters Next: involves a hidden zone that is not face down exile.(i.e. hand, library, etc)
|
|

Post by Fleur on May 31, 2018 14:00:37 GMT
Up: I get what you're going for, but I think this could be a lot more simplified since the Phylactery counters feel like tacky indestructible for the most part. Lich Conquerer Creature - Skeleton Warrior If CARDNAME would die, you may instead exile a permanent with a phylactery counter on it. If you do, CARDNAME gains indestructible until end of turn. : Put a phylactery counter on target nonland permanent you control. , Discard a card: Put a phylactery on target nonland permanent you don't control. 4/2 Old: Involves a hidden zone other than face-down exile. New: Goblin.
