UP: That's gonna be a pain to play against. Worth noting that bounce wouldn't be much help against this guy as the counters remain after it's gone. I do wonder if you can do it though, as you dying is a state-based effect and I don't think the trigger can respond fast enough. Never mind; I mixed up it dying with you dying.

Top: Design is flavorful, but targeting creatures is far too powerful. It’s not reliable, but repeatable removal at 2 mana is insane.

UP: Stronger than Goblin Grenade I think is a little undercosted considering Fodder Launch does two things and also sacrifices one goblin. Considering that -5/-5 kills indestructible and regenerate. Maybe an extra mana? Otherwise seems balanced enough. Life Gambit Sorcery Lose half your life rounded up. Flip a coin, if you win, your life total becomes your starting life total. UP: This has the same problem as a bunch of cards from Liz's old set, Ante Up-- the secret is you use this in a creatureless deck to get two Murders for the price of one. Fast Sorcery You draw X cards and lose X life. /// Furious Sorcery :rare: Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control this turn, it gains double strike and haste until end of turn. OLD: Street racing theme NEW: A sorcery and/or enchantment.

Up: I don't really understand what the Fast-part has anything to do with street racing - or just being fast in general. When I hear "fast", I don't think about drawing cards by paying life, at least not at sorcery speed. Furious fits like a glove though! I really like the design overall. Accelerated Patience
Enchantment When Accelerated Patience enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice it. If you do, put two +1/+1 counters on up to one target creature you control. At the beginning of your upkeep, put a +1/+1 counter on up to one target creature you control. Old: A sorcery and/or enchantment. New: A build-around creature with islandwalk.

Up: A +1/+1 counter every turn should be at least and should probably cost more. As for templating, since it can only target your stuff, it doesn't need the "up to one". When you play a card like this, you want to taget your stuff, no need to make it optional. Drownyard Buccaneer Enchantment Creature - Spirit Pirate Islandwalk Whenever you cast a spell from your graveyard, draw a card. 2/3 (This is Secrets of the Dead as a creature.) Old: A build-around creature with islandwalk. New: Nonblue

When you play a card like this, you want to taget your stuff, no need to make it optional. True! It is absolutely a bit too pushed as it stands right now to be a common. Probably should have been an aura that only effected the enchanted creature. Up: Well it certainly is a build-around creature... that also has islandwalk. I probably should have been more clear that I wanted the islandwalk to be the build-around, so that's my fault. But like I said, it certainly is a build-around, and to that extent it works great! Respired Clutcher Creature - Dinosaur Haste Respired Clutcher must attack each turn if able. When Respired Clutcher dies, discard your hand, then draw two cards. 3/1 Old: Non-blue New: A legendary creature on its deathbed

{Ninja'd?} UP: Not sure about the costing. Islandwalk tends to reduce the P/T by one CCM. So a CCM4 with Islandwalk tends to have the P/T of a CCM3 with no Island walk at uncommon to common. Maybe it is fine. Not sure if the flavor is there, I mean, it has nothing to explain why it is an enchantment. Pretty fine otherwise. 8/10. King Crocodile Creature - Crocodile Islandwalk Other Crocodile creatures you control get +1/+1. 4/4 Old: Nonblue New: Instant stack domination Not sure how this works. I too too long to make the card. Also Tom Tomat please read the rules. You are not supposed to respond to responses to your post.

Looks we're both a bit sloppy about reading the rules huh? I'll make sure to wait at least 2 posts before making a new card, sorry. The rules also states what happens when you get ninja'd; "In the event of a "ninja", i.e. two people posting responses to the same challenge in quick succession, the first poster's challenge takes precedence, but the next poster is encouraged to rate both." Which simply means that the next person should respond to my challenge instead of yours, but is encouraged to rate both our works. I'll leave the thread for a while now, haha!

Respired Clutcher: Dangerous Wager on a 3/1 haste body that must attack each turn for ... Yes please! I'd even say that this could have been a 4/1, but this is a pretty great card.
Skrumpus, the Rotting Oak Legendary Creature - Treefolk Fungus Defender
~ enters the battlefield with a number of -1/-1 counters on it equal to the number of creature cards in all graveyards.
When ~ dies, create X 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens, where X was the number of +1/+1 counters on it. 0/8
Old: A legendary creature on its deathbed. New: Cares about in ALL graveyards.

UP: It instantly dies when there is 8 creatures in all graveyards. Requires you to place +1/+1 counters on to get any benefit, but +1/+1 counters cancel the -1/-1 counters it comes in with. Making it a terrible target for decks that care about +1/+1 counters. Also, the token generation comes tied to _1/+1 counters which makes also terrible for a -1/-1 counters deck. This card requires a ton of build up, and basically does nothing when it comes in the battlefield. If someone kills it before you get to put a +1/+1 counter on it, or after it took you so much effort to get rid of all those -1/-1 counters then it is a terrible feels bad moment. By that time why not just play it in Doran as an 8/8 for CCM2? No need to play on the counter theme, just exile the libraries with ooze, leyline and rest in peace. Then on the flavor side, It is rotting so when it dies, it would make more sense if saprolings sprung from the -1/-1 counters instead of the +1/+1 counters. Showing that the saprolings killed it. not sure what to make of it. 5/10 Merlongf, Dying Veteran Legendary Creature - Goblin
Hexproof When ~ enters the battlefield exile all cards from all graveyards until Merlongf leaves the battlefield. Merlongf gets +1/+1 for each creature card in all graveyards. At the beginning of your upkeep, put a -1/-1 counter on Merlongf. 2/2 OLD: Cares about in ALL graveyards. NEXT: Manipulates/Influences the stack.

Up: Strong card with an interesting downside. I'm sure this would make for a fun commander. Disloyal Bumbler Instant Counter target spell if its converted mana cost is less than or equal to the number of planeswalker cards in all graveyards. Old: Manipulates/Influences the stack. New: Costs more than just mana.

Post by gamma3 on Jun 14, 2018 17:57:04 GMT
UP: That's a not-insignificant hoop to jump through to counter higher cost spells. Heck, for the first half of the game you probably won't be able to counter anything without self-mill and a higher density of planeswalkers than normal. 5/10 Last Word Instant As an additional cost to cast ~, exile a spell on the stack that you control. ~ can't be countered. Counter all other spells and abilities that would counter a spell. Draw a card for each spell countered this way, then discard a card. My card here is probably either broken on so many levels or downright terrible. Not sure which. OLD: Costs more than just mana NEW: Is a legendary noncreature

Last Word. Other than the card name already being used, I don't see this as being a broken card. It's Swift Silence combined with Last Word and those are both dollar bin rares that see fringe play. Sure, it hits abilities that counter spells and if enough things are happening you could end up with a huge hand but other than that it's just a counter ALL counterspells and draw some cards it's pretty solid. Feels like a mythic to me. 10/10
Final Decree Legendary Enchantment As an additional cost to cast ~, exile a card from your hand.
Spells that shares a type or converted mana cost with cards exiled by ~ cannot be cast.
Old. Legendary noncreature.
New. Cares about a zone other than graveyard, hand, or battlefield. ((Remaining zones are: Library, Exile, Stack, Command, and Ante))

Up: That's damn powerful. Probably broken. It's repeatable removal for four mana. (I know it comes into the hand if repeated, but stil, this is better than four mana to bounce something, which would be damn strong already.) And then it also prohibits your opponent (and you) from casting a lot of spells. I imagine this in a spell based deck with a few creatures. If you manage to exile a creature into this, a lot of opponents might just walk away in frustration. Cestich, Chariot of Champions Legendary Artifact - Vehicle As long as you own two or more cards in the command zone, you may cast this spell from the command zone without paying its mana cost. Graft 3 Crew 1 Cestich, Combat Calculator can be your commander in addition to any other commander you have. 0/0 Old: Cares about a zone other than graveyard, hand, or battlefield. ((Remaining zones are: Library, Exile, Stack, Command, and Ante)) New: X

UP: I like it. Graft on a vehicle seems strange but flavorful. 9/10 Vuja De Sorcery Choose a card type. Target player reveals the top X cards of their library. Exile all revealed cards of the chosen type, and put the rest on the bottom of that library in a random order. Old: X New: "A deck can have any number of cards named..."

UP: I wish the card was more of a callback to Deja Vu , but it's great in its colors and would see a lot of play. In fact, I've got a Phenax deck I want to put it in. 9/10 Militia Soldier Creature - Human Soldier A deck can have any number of cards named Militia Soldier. Other Soldier creatures you control gain +1/+1. 1/1 Old:"A deck can have any number of cards named..." New: Nonbasic land

UP: While this is a very nice white Relentless Rats, I don't see the X anywhere, so I'm afraid I can't give this more than a 5/10. Grand CarnivalLand ~ enters the battlefield tapped. As ~ enters the battlefield, choose a basic land type. Other lands you control named ~ have the chosen type in addition to their other types. : Add . A deck can have any number of cards named ~ {Render} Old: Nonbasic Land New: Cares about a hidden zone other than face-down exile.

Up: I'm feeling some pretty serious memory issues with this card, since each one has all the types you've chosen for all your copies except the one it named itself. I'd like it a lot better if it gave all Grand Carnivals, including itself, the chosen type. That's obviously stronger, but it'd be easier to track (and wouldn't need to tap for colorless). Vaporous PalaceLand Play with the top card of your library revealed. : Add . : Add one mana of any color in the color identity of the top card of your library. The library's technically a hidden zone even if you reveal part of it. Old: Cares about a hidden zone other than face-down exile. New: Has flashback, retrace, jump-start, unearth, embalm, or eternalize.

Okay, let's try this again XD I'm not sure about the wording, but I think I made it clear enough, and at least I got all the parts of the challenge this time. UP: While I'm not sure if color identity actually applies outside of Commander games, I like the idea that it would. I think, considering how swingy the card could be as a land, it's good that it has the extra effect of a sorta "soft scry". Fatespinner Sphinx Creature - Sphinx Wizard Flying , : Manifest the top X cards of your library. When Fatespinner Sphinx deals combat damage to a player, you may cast a non-creature spell manifested under your control for its mana cost. Embalm 3/3 Old: Has flashback, retrace, jump-start, unearth, embalm, or eternalize. New: Snow cost

Post by gamma3 on Sept 1, 2018 23:54:25 GMT
Up: I really like this. Although, I don't think you can straight up cast a manifested spell. I would probably say "Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, you may exile a face-down card you control. You may play that card this turn." Over all, I'd say 9/10. Arctic Tracker Snow Creature - Human Scout ::unommon:: When ~ enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a basic land card, reveal it, and put it into your hand, then shuffle your library. Unearth 2/2 Old: Snow cost New: Has an ability word (Threshold, Metalcraft, etc.)
|
|
|
Post by viriss on Sept 2, 2018 14:06:02 GMT
UP: Great card. Perfect for snow decks. The unearth probably doesn't even need the green mana. 10/10. Frostwind Clipper Sorcery Sweep — Return any number of snow lands you control to their owner’s hand. Tap a number of target creatures equal to the number of lands returned this way. Those creatures don’t untap during their controller’s next untap step. Forecast — , Reveal Frostwind Clipper from your hand: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control. (Activate this ability only during your upkeep and only once each turn.)Old: Has an ability word (Threshold, Metalcraft, etc.) New: Converted mana cost of 7.
|
|
|
Post by shiftyhomunculus on Sept 2, 2018 14:14:39 GMT
Up: Oof, sweep. I feel like most of the time this card's just sitting in your hand getting forecast whenever you have mana spare; hard-casting it to turn your lands into Frost Breaths doesn't feel very enticing. I also don't love that the forecast is pretty much unrelated to the main effect - for canonical cards with forecast, the forecast effect is either a watered-down version of the full-fat card ( Skyscribing) or synergizes with it somehow ( Govern the Guildless). 5/10. Tunnel Scrambler Creature - Insect Undergrowth - This spell costs less to cast for each creature card in your graveyard. 4/5(Undergrowth is the new Golgari mechanic from Guilds of Ravnica.) Old: CMC 7. New: Cost reduction ability.

Up: Remember Gurmag AnglerIt's that except that you don't have to exile anything and costs ::B/G:: more. Yeah, this could probably see tournament play. Forgot it said "creature cards" that's way more balanced. 9/10 Also, if I was being cheeky I could re-submit yours as it qualifies, but let me try something original.
Creature -Weird Lurghoyf ~ costs less to cast for each instant or sorcery in your graveyard. ~'s power is equal to the number of instants in your graveyard. ~'s toughness is equal to the number of sorceries in your graveyard plus one. Exile an instant card and a sorcery card from your graveyard: Return ~ from your graveyard to your hand. */*+1

Up: I love the "Weird" aspects brought to the 'ghoyf party, but it's not CMC 7, unfortunately. Given that, I'm still gonna give it a 6/10 for its uniqueness. Esper Transmuter Artifact Creature - Vedalken Artificer , : Target artifact you control becomes a copy of target permanent, where X is that card's converted mana cost minus the number of artifacts you control. 2/2 Old: Three color color identity New: Atog

Terratog BRG Creature — Atog Sacrifice a land: Terratog gets +2/+2 until end of turn. 2/2
