{Design Notes} I saw the artwork, and it immediately made me realize that in the 1200 years between OG Kamigawa and Neon Dynasty, there was probably a grungy industrial era. So I retrained Capenna Express to fit the theme and the challenge, and thus implied into existence a cycle of colored planar trains.

FeedbackIdea: I quite like this! Unfortunately, there are only 8 artifacts that have activated abilities that require . Though they are all good! In a world where we return to the use of , this would not stand out at all! Like the name too. Jartis: I'd love to see an Industrial Revolution Kamigawa set! Clean, flavorful design that opens up 's design space into all sorts of energy sources. I like it! viriss: Cool used of on Equipment, which hasn't been done yet! I think getting three is a bit much. In a vacuum, it wouldn't be an issue. But with other -using cards, it could be a bit high (the main issue with cards to begin with!). boxlaunch: Haha, good one! Intruder Alarm with . I think this is great! Might be a bit strong with some high-powered abilities that you can now re-use without mana cost, though! serraphim: I like these types of conversion/storage engines! This is a flavorful one that also uses the non-standard energy source. I like it a lot! ResultWinner is a close one between Jartis and serraphim. I'll give this one to Jartis for a design that brings a world alive that I'd really want to visit.

Thanks for the win! I'm excited for all the "modern" sets we're starting to see; unfortunately I'm not sure they would go back in time to industrial Kamigawa with the current way they do stories. But we can dream!
For the next challenge: Design an Equipment Artifact that isn't intended for use in combat (weapons, wands, armor, shields, etc) It might have a use in the combat phase, like a jetpack granting Flying, but combat should not be the primary use of the object if it were real

Judging { viriss}Gaining undying isn't incredibly common, but it also seems like they rank it pretty low considering a card like Undying Evil. I suppose this being repeatable is worth a slight bump in rarity, but I feel like the comparative cost would make it fine at Uncommon. All that said, it also feels like a flavor loss that the Totem isn't sacrificed for the effect. I do like the idea, though. { Idea}The colored equip cost immediately stands out, as I think we've only seen it twice in official designs before, so that's neat. I see what you're going for with Inspired here (that whole block had some of my favorite mechanics that we'll likely never see again), but I'm not sure if it works here. I think the ability CAN work (though it may cause some memory issues), I'm just not sure if it really qualifies as "Inspired," for what little that semantic argument matters. I like the direction, but I feel like it probably needs some rules help. { ZephyrPhantom}Fun little reference. It does feel a little odd as an equipment, given the effect is kinda like a sorcery with extra steps, but there's enough equipment synergies in the game that I definitely think there's a place for more of these sorts of designs. { vizionarius}I find it interesting that this essentially turns a creature into more of a utility creature, but doesn't actually stop it from attacking. If anything, it's pretty okay protection for a creature that you WANT to just be interacting on the board, with the tap ability as just an added little thing you can do during your opponent's end step if you want. { Flo00}I think my only wish for this would before it to be a Tribal Artifact - Bard Equipment, but it's definitely not required. It does seem a little cheap, but that's just a gut assessment and costs are one of my worst areas. { Daij_Djan}As a D&D player, I do love rolling dice and getting rewarded for it. And this does feel in line with the colorless repeatable Treasure generation we already have. I could see it really popping off with some UR dice rolling synergies, and I think that's a fun edge case for a card that is just generally okay enough for limited environments to make its way into constructed as well.

{ Disregard This} At first I read "turns into an artifact". Maybe that's what it originally said before the edit, or maybe I just misread and didn't notice because I didn't check again. But either way, here's my thought process: "Design a creature that turns into an artifact." "Like it becomes an artifact, it transforms into one, or does it make one when it leaves?" "Yes." New entry: Bandit Spearman. Drops is an artifact that would be found in several cards, always the exact same card on the back. I'm unsure whether the line about having any number of them in your deck is necessary, given double-faced cards only have the characteristics of the front-faced card while not on the battlefield, but I didn't see anything specifying if the back side would separately count for maximum cards with the same name, so I gave it that line. Why not just make a token? Because things interact differently with tokens than they do with nontoken cards, for instance replaying them in some fashion. This does limit Drops cards to usually only being "produced" one at a time - hence the keyword "Drop" which can be referenced for interactions. Here's an example of a card interacting with Drops: (not my entry, entry is Bandit Spearman)

FeedbackIdea: I really like the idea of creatures transforming into drops. However, I think it would be better if they transformed into specific drops, instead of the generic one you have that all do the same thing. I think this would be better as a token (even though you're right in that there is design space for transform, as your 2nd card points out). Additionally, it feels a bit too limiting to be only able to cast artifacts from your drops. It severely limits their playability. Overall I think there is a neat idea there, but I think it would have been better to have these be tokens (so it wouldn't fit the challenge) that also allow you to cast any card when saced. pernicious: I like this a lot! A legend turning into a commemorative statue is an excellent flavor for this challenge. It's a bonus that the statue plays so well with the creature side. It feels a bit like the creature Sagas from NEO, but reversed. ResultWinner is pernicious with a clean design that would make sense to expand into numerous cards as a mechanic in a block.

I've never been a fan of the Fortification concept, since it felt like land auras would work just as well (unless the meta involed land destruction on a large scale - which by itself thaen would not be a good thing ) - however Kamigawa's Reconfigue offers a nice reason to attach and reattach (to lands) at will:

Idea - A flavorful and well balanced card; I really like the cost reduction mechanic.
thaneofglamis - A straightforward, overall well designed common. Nice.
vizionarius - Now that's some serious card draw. Good design, I'd only raise its cost by . I like the reference to Harmonize in its name.
Daij_Djan - That's a very interesting design, I really like Terraform. I'd only change the creature type to "Construct Druid" and then change the reminder text of Terraform to (...While attached, this isn't a creature and it's a Fortification in addition to its other types.)
The winner is Idea! With Daij_Djan and thaneofglamis as runnerups.
