cajun Fleur There was a brief second where Zero's approach was unimpeded, her trajectory going straight for the body of the pirate, and her attempts to close the rifts uninterrupted. It seemed so simple, so easy to finish things right here and there... Before the rift seemed to burst in protest of Zero's attempt, Maevah in Kadri's body gesturing to it one last time before she dove out of the way, the fold in space opening as what could only be described as a mass slipped through space. It was something like that of an arm, ending in three fat fingers, and distinctly lacking a thumb, but large enough to crush any of them if it grasped them. It lunged towards the space where the pirate's body had been standing, smashing the rock and the site of the ritual, before grasping further from its prison outwards, towards Zero. "Take note, Mira!" the body of Kadri yelled, the first hint of excitement in the woman's tone since Mira had met its current possessor. "You witness the greatest of the Unnamed!" From a distance, Mira observes, watching as the ritual comes to its conclusion. The entity is simultaneously familiar and unfamiliar, similar yet different. This situation offers an opportunity to perhaps get a detailed observation without being cut to shreds, and so Mira takes full advantage of this situation. Show Your Work Instant Create a token that's a copy of target creature you control, except it's a 0/0 Fractal that enters the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it. In such an enigmatic and complex field, the Quandrix know well the importance of cataloguing one's processes. Paralytic Feedback: gets around uncounterables and is just in general, potentially pretty swingy? feels more rare than uncommon to me, I think 7/10

Zero's charge doesn't break in the face of the monster. An electrified blade slashes across the misshapen hand, then jets fire from Zero's boots to try to land on the arm to drive the blade in from above.

cajun Fleur The pirate’s face of glee swiftly changed to concern as Zero, seemingly without effort, avoided the clumsy assault of the Will, then quickly moved to strike it from above. This was not the plan she had envisioned, even without Zero’s interference, there were still risks of conjuring a breach for the Unnamed to come through, and as paltry as their tithe had been to collect on this world. No, she could not let her interfere. This one was dangerous, more than she even had appeared before Kadri, when.. “You need me to do this for you,” a voice chided from within, now on the other end of the conversation than she was used to. “With some regret, I do admit that, yes.”“Then give me back my body Maevah. You’ve gotten what you wanted. If you want your plans to work, let me do this for you, like I always do.”“An empress who relies entirely on her subjects…”“Is a dead one, but you don't have an option here do you?” “Presumptuous, that you spit my own words back at me.“What choice do I have when its the only way you’ll listen.”“…” “Give it back, Maevah.”
As quickly as the body of Kadri’s face had changed, a new look took hold on its face. Its eyes turned from a pale gold back to a familiar crimson, and quickly scanned the field around them. “You’re done here, summoner,” said a harsher voice, but one with more stake in the body they were wielding. “I’m finishing what they started.”A sword was quickly pulled from its scabbard, and Kadri rushed forward, leaping into the path of Zero as she descended to parry the blow meant for the Empress’s summon. Beneath them, the arm bled, but it had not faltered, scrabbling now to dig at the earth beneath it, search for something within the earth itself. Silencing Parry Instant Raid — If you attacked with a creature this turn, this spell can’t be countered. Counter target noncreature spell unless its controller pays . Echoing Execution: Sure, neat. 8/10

cajun There was no saving the summoning, this opponent was far too canny to let the Unnamed persist long enough to feast further. Any effort to keep it alive would be hard fought, and for such a hastily prepared event, there were no contingencies either she or Maevah could rely on. It was, as ever, in the heat of the moment that their decisions would be made, and there were few moments left between them. Well, if she wanted to get off of this world with her own body, she’d have to give it what she had. As the sword begins to fall where Zero was supposed to be, Kadri deftly let’s it go mid-stroke, stepping back and leaving herself seemingly defenseless to Zero’s next assault. Behind her, the monstrous hand dug deeper, before suddenly finding something within the sand, and plunged further, trails of light, mana, pure mana, emanating from the soil as the creature’s intent was made clear. It was feasting on the very essence of the land itself. Where the arm met the portal, seemingly strengthened by the presence of food, it began to widen, a finger, than another, slipping past the clogged aperture, and began pulling at the hole. An attempt to force the rift even wider. “Give the Will enough time to feed,” Kadri thought to herself, “and we’ll have enough to start again on another world.” Standing between the feasting arm and its threatening to emerge second, Kadri was unarmed, but not out. “My plan is to get out of this alive.” Kadri finally answered, arms raised to either side, a taunt it seemed, leaving herself open for a counterattack. “Was played a fool by your apothecary employer. Had to endure someone else taking my body for their own. And worst of all, had to sink everything I had gained and sweat over into this stinking plane!” A grimace emerged as a warbled crack struck the air as the Unnamed began to push more of itself into their world. “So maybe I hoped I wouldn’t have to deal with you again, but life isn’t fair to the damned, and it sure isn’t fair to anyone else either. Maybe I could have avoided this, but it’s my lot now, and I’m not one who lets unfinished business stay unfinished for long. So come at me if you want to end this here and now! It's the last chance either of us will get."“Just a few minute, maybe a bit more,” she thought to herself, “and we’ll be on our way and off this place.”Kadri Blueswale has unlocked mechanic: Cleave.Deflecting Stroke Instant Cleave (You may cast this spell for its cleave cost. If you do, remove the words in square brackets.)Counter target spell. You [and that spell’s controller] draw two cards. Booming Cacophony: Abound on this feels weird, since it's not as 'randomly' impactful like on Throes of Chaos, since at best this lets you fix into color spell in your hand. A neat use case, but choosing that as your sole mode is weird. I like the rest of it though. 8/10.

The pirate captain presents herself unarmed. Good.
Zero electrifies her blade and tries to sprint past her to get to the digging arm. There was no reason to think the woman had any effect on this creature's actions anymore. Part of her hoped that, at the least. Alternating Current Artifact Whenever a player casts a spell for an alternate cost, Alternating Current deals 2 damage to target player or planeswalker. cajun Kadri felt for the presence of the Unnamed behind her, and frowned slightly. It was getting greedy, like they always did. Not surprising, they were here to feed, and this plane had enough mana here alone for it to truly wreak itself upon the plane. But that wasn’t the plan, and Kadri had to remind it who was in charge. While also preventing it from dying to this assassin heading straight for it. Could be easier, could be harder. Pulling on the mana Maevah had already connected to for the ritual, Kadri led the hand back up from just beneath the surface, a long, indescribable noise managing to escape from the rift behind her as the hand pawed upwards, then swiped wildly where Kadri was standing (and conveniently into the path Zero had planned to take) in search of the food source it had been after. Kadri lept, uncertain if she had dodged the attack until she saw the mass whir past inches from her face, before she landed next to the Unnamed’s paw, which had found the bait she had set out. The creature initially began to dig once more, and the fingers pulling at the rift behind her began to hasten their efforts, but they both stilled as Kadri heard Maevah in her head. “We are leaving now. Take us home, Unnamed.”
Looking to Zero, who would have had to dodge or parry the attack to remain unscathed, Kadri stepped onto the Unnamed’s outstretched palm as it flipped over. The mana source it had glutted on began to dim as it sunk back into the earth, and the Unnamed’s hand began to lift back towards the rift. “Goodbye, whoever you are. If we cross paths again, you won’t live to regret it.”Parting Shot Instant This turn, if you would lose life from a noncombat source, each opponent loses that much life instead. Alternating Current: Reminded of Lightning Rift, or Burning Vengeance. I think this being a punisher and a combo is a bad idea, at least without some type of conditional cost. 6/10. Otherwise it's a fine red combo enchantment.

As Zero sprinted, a leg twisted to what would seem a disastrous angle to a human. As her foot connected with ground, the force and a small blast of flame rocketed her to move with the direction of the Unnamed's attacking hand. Her sword angled down her body. If its attack connected, it was connecting to the paralyzing blade.
“Goodbye, whoever you are. If we cross paths again, you won’t live to regret it.” "I would prefer to avoid it," Zero growls. She throws her sword back into a red rift, then clumsily flings a lightning bolt from her hand to the fleeing pirate. Brightening Bolt Instant Kicker— and/or Discard two cards. Brightening Bolt deals 3 damage to any target. If this spell was kicked, draw three cards, then prevent that damage unless it was kicked twice.
kick once to change the bolt to card draw to avoid damage

cajun The creature's hand didn't connect, too sloppily it was moving to seriously hit the dodging Zero. The bolt, clumsy, but not fumbled, went approximately in the direction of Kadri, who had turned to face the rift as she was pulled in. The energy struck her in the back, forcing her to fall forward onto the palm of the creature's hand as she went past the edge of the aperture, barely able to keep herself up and get one last look at Zero. She was going to remember that. In an instant, she was beyond the hole in the air, and it promptly shut, leaving Zero alone on the beach, and the arena bereft of one less marauder. Brightening Bolt: The kicker in this should be multi-kicker, I think, even if there is precedent in stuff like Ana Battlemage, which makes a distinction between costs. You could say "if both kicker costs were paid" which also might work, but its a bit complex to just simply draw two cards and deal 3 damage. Clever use of the costs to make this in color though, so it deserves some praise for effort. 4/10.

Several months ago...
The Experimenter looked over a dozen lesser experimenters rushing around the chassis of Experiment[3], some removing damaged parts, some adding new, others trying to fix circuitry without removing anything at all. “Another smashing success for the Dog is it?” he sneers.
“We're doing the best we can,” the senior of them rebuts. “Unless you can get back your so-called indestructible prototype, you can expect a critical failure almost every fight, yes. There's only so much even one of these robots can do when outnumbered so heavily.”
“Hmmph. Hope does not see nearly this battle damage.”
“Because you do not put Hope in scenarios where she may have to be retrieved. You only ever send in our project.”
The Experimenter jabbed a finger into the others chest, “There is no our project. This is my Dog, you're just the vet for fixing it when it gets itself killed. You got that?”
The other artificer gritted his teeth. Once the chaos of the battle had settled, Zero rushed to a particular combatant. To the untrained eye, it might seem just a pile of metal. Looking closer, one could make out the limbs of Experiment[3], now twisted over its body. Zero could detect something more. Sparks. This thing was like her.“T ̃h͚̝̋̇͋ͅ ͗̏e̗ ͙̳̘́̽͒ ̼̹̏ͨP̻̟̟ͥ͊̚ r̠̫͛͋̓ͅ ͦͯo̞̗ͧͤ ͎̲ͫͥt͉͕̆ͥ o t̲ͤ ͍̯̐ͯy ͖ͅp ̟͓̹͐͒̆e̙̦̥͐͗̚,͒͊” it groaned.“What are you?” she demanded.“E ͨx̉̚̚ p͕̻̯͆̂͐ e ̗̓ͩͅr̊̉͌ ̅i ͕̪mͩͅ ͦ͐̒m̬ͧ ̯ͣṃ͇ͣ̍ ̇͛͋e͖ͅ n̠̪ͩ̿ ̫̇tͮ ̺̪ͧ͛ T͎̫̳̅̌ͬ ̗̇h h̘ ̥̗̣h̯̺ h ̯̭͎̊͌̋h ͎̦̥ͧͮ͂r̞̺̄ͪ ͭ̏e̅̎͛ ̫̹̞ͩ̊͊e̳̔ e.͙͙͉”She snapped down to the ground. “Experiment Three? What of One and Two? What of Nulien?! How do we get back there?”“N̘̻͔͑̏ͫ ̪͇̬n͔͍̏̂ ͯ͒n n ̳ͧṋ̤̼ ̪̐n̥̤͉ͩͥ̈́ ̅͑̽n ̐n ̥n͓̼͇̍̈́̍ n.ͫͨͪ”The static coming from the machine stopped.
[Adjusted electronic readings: negligible.]
Zero dragged the remains of Experiment[3] into her collapsed hideout, dropping it beside the boxy drone of Experiment[4]. She didn't have any way to extract anything useful from them or bring them with her, but they were sure to be a treasure trove of information if she could find a solution to either. But she wasn't going to get that waiting around on the Arena. Hiding them here was the best she would be able to manage. She rifted away most everything else that remained in the hideout, save for a letter that she carried out.
"I have one last favor," she says to the little girl waiting outside. "Please pass this along to your courier friend. And you may do your trick."
"Okay?" Karina says as she takes the letter. She smiles at the last words and taps at something on her ear. "Alright Sevid, flood the basement." Around them, the earth gently rises, lightly sloping all around them until the opening into the collapsed building had completely disappeared. To anyone unaware of the area, it would seem the rubble had always been built at this level. Finding the robots in the basement should be no easy task.
"Thank you for your help. I do not even know why you give it, sometimes." "Well... you needed it. And no one else was gonna do it." Lettie,
Should the courier prove true, this will be the first of my letters of learning how to live in our strange state to you. It has not been very many days, but very much has happened, still.
I encountered the pirate captain, again. I had attempted to begin things amicably, as we had ended, but she refused, summoning what I had thought to be some manner of creature of Elsewhere. I was able to undo whatever her scheme was, but she has promised she has not forgive either of us, so be warned of that.
Incidentally, have you known an orc by the name of Hanadu Dustbone, or a planeswalker Komoro Dec? A man on the Arena is searching for them.
I said I had thought it to be a creature of Elsewhere, because not long after this encounter, the real creature of Elsewhere appeared on the Arena. Everywhere at once.
There were too many.
I defended as best as I could but there were too many for one person. And there were far more defenders than just me. I did all I could, but this Arena did not need me.
I stayed for some time to assist in the rebuilding. I had hurt these people, had I not? At least, in some sense. They likely would not have known the horrors of Elsewhere had I never arrived.
It made me realize how I have abandoned the citizens back on Nulien. Perhaps this world has defenders enough, but Nulien had only me. And it still is trying to find me. I should at least return that favor.
It also made me ask the question I asked you again. Five times, even. What might I do, as one who has wronged the sparks, in some sense.
Lord Reza seeks peace for himself, and justice for us. He remains unsure on the order.
Xan wishes to return to a time neither of us remember very well. We will have to return home to see the end of this wish.
Lhin wants a return to his old life. We have some leads there, but we again may have to return to Nulien before we can begin this in earnest.
Nami wants us to see how her fiance is doing, and to ensure him that Nami will be home, eventually. This at least is a mission we can begin.
Cara is the least open, still. I can not blame her mistrust, what I have seen of her time with Spark Labs is unforgivable. I hope we may find a way to help her one day.
For now, we will be going to the plane of Ushni, where Reza is from. Currently, this is our only lead until we can unlock more memories, and Karina has informed us that we will receive no further help from the small experimenter who assisted us in the first place. Unfortunately, not all bridges are mendable. As much as I hope otherwise, I fear Nulien will be one such bridge.
If you learn anything further of Nulien or the planeswalkers mentioned here, please let me know in another letter.
Zero Experiment Zero has left the Boards. She'll stick around via guest attacks to tie up any loose ends still hanging. {Zero's Character Sheet} At a distance, she appears as a normal enough woman, just another visitor here on the Arena. As you approach, it becomes obvious that she is not — green tinged wire stubs poking out the back of her head, a metal plate under her hair, a corroded metal socket where her left arm should be. She stands nearly seven feet tall, and her voice is unmistakably robotic, although perfectly understandable.
She may be found around the Arena, looking for information about "Nulien," investigating technology people have, or trying to figure out how to operate her newly-acquired motorcycle.Experiment ZeroReza | Xan | Lhin | Nami | CaraE X P E R I M E N T [ 4 ] : D E B U GExperiment[3]: Bl͓ͯo̰̟̭̊̈̉od̍h̝̆o̹̗͍̓̔̚u̮͎͍͛̾͆n͙̲d͍̮̳

Heavy snow falls across the Arena, driving the denizens inside early for the night. It provides some small comfort when the howling begins from the forest around the old EPIC outpost.
In the morning, snow covers most of the Arena, save for a vast expanse of sand that had not been there the day before. A purple coyote stalks back and forth on the horizon, flicking its tail at anyone who stares too long. A few steps into the sand and the biting cold of winter is replaced by the heat of the desert. Of course, nothing stops you from turning tail and running.
The coyote simply watches.
Cygari has entered the Boards.

It begins with a distinct feeling; that parts of the snowscape are changing while Cygari isn't looking at them, from the far distance all the way up to the edge of the desert. Grass gives way to stone, bits of sandstone litter the ground, an earthquake stirs the sands...But blink and it's like it never happened.
The subtlety is then shattered by a massive hole in the ground that appears from nothing, and shattered again when a crustacean-like creature with a black and spiny shell lunges out at Cygari.

The subtlety is then shattered by a massive hole in the ground that appears from nothing, and shattered again when a crustacean-like creature with a black and spiny shell lunges out at Cygari.
The coyote paces around the strange hole trying to get a sense of what has caused this disturbance before the giant enemy crab attacks.
The crustacean lunges into empty air. The coyote is now standing just outside its arms length, crouched and growling. The sand beneath the attacker begins to swirl, making it difficult for heavy things to much but sink.

The hunt is on. The day of judgment has arrived. Today, I'll have meow vengeance against the shadow monster. He has been in this forest recently. I'm a predator. The apex of the species. Rawr. Hidden between the vegetation, the meownster will not spot meow. I don't meowke any sound, even walking among the fallen leaves. Fallen leaves that feel like... sand? The cat looks around, his internal monologue broken, only to find the forest behind him, abruptly ending into a desert as long as the eye can see. The trail of the monster is still present but distant. Interesting. Maybe we can leave the hunt for another day. The cat walks a few step into the desert, maybe looking for something. If he finds the coyote, he will try a 'friendly' approach. "Hello, fox-friend! I don't meown any harm to you! Have something for meow? Meowbye lunch?" The Weapon hides behind his back, now a long butcher's knife.Predator's Pride Sorcery Spectacle Put a first strike counter, a lifelink counter and a menace counter on target creature you control. If ~'s spectacle cost was paid, draw a card and untap that creature. Otherwise, that creature gets +2/+0 until end of turn.

By now midwinter, an individual obviously unaccustomed to such cold (though at last clad in more weather-appropriate garb, a dull green overcoat and matching woolen cap) trudges her way through ankle-high snow. Amidst the bones of a town whose name she didn't yet care to recall, Allatu tightens her coat, pulls down her cap, and slumps against what remains of a wall, the single square-meter of balcony left overhead sparing her a damp seat. Taking a moment to close her eyes and query herself, in a manner still unfamiliar to her, she brings forward the relevant information previously stashed away. This was Avont, a small fishing village. Founded slightly over seventy years ago--Allatu's eyes open for a half-second as she converts to a more familiar system of measurement--it ceased to exist within the past three. Local legends spoke of "dwellers in the deep," malicious entities that spurned the sun and lived underground. The entry ended, Allatu takes in her surroundings: the town itself lays in ruins, subject to any of a number of cataclysms; to the north the once-broad river sits now diminished--and at the moment frozen over--as well as a sparse forest beyond it; the west is more thickly wooded, to her understanding utterly unmapped; the east marks her approach, clear of any obvious entries into the earth; and the south remains obscured, unkempt vegetation hiding it from her on the way in, and now behind the wall at which she sits. Opting to simultaneously explore both areas of immediate concern, as well as spare herself more trouble traversing the damnable cold, she reaches out for any nearby minds. In this weather, few of her preferred forms are available, forcing her to settle for a pair of mockingbirds hiding within a nearby bush. A simple psychic nudge alongside some words of encouragement, and each is up and away on their own little scouting mission. Eye in the Sky Creature - Bird Flying When Eye in the Sky enters the battlefield, if it's not a token, create a token that's a copy of it. Whenever you attack with one or more creatures with flying, scry 1. Two heads are better than one, no matter what the hand may say.1/1

Peering through avian eyes, Allatu brings the scouts around in an long arc to fully observe the unusual terrain. It merely warrants a Curious, but closer telepathic inspection escalates to a Worth investigating. She recalls her companions to their perch and releases her hold on them, their usefulness spent, before standing to stretch, tugging close her coat, and swiftly vaulting the low wall she had taken shelter against. In the moments it takes to reach the sands, Allatu adjusts her demeanors, mental and physical, towards what she hopes is welcoming to this strange, empty mind. Taking a mere two steps from frost into dust, she stops and speaks clearly towards the empty dunes: "Hello. I am Allatu Kishar, and no matter your nature, I possess no malicious intent. May we speak openly, most preferably with both parties physically present?" Open Invitation Instant You gain 6 life. Each opponent may draw a card. For each opponent who does, you draw a card. "Trust me."
I haven't played much with Mirage (perhaps at all, I can't remember if I've registered Antithesis), so apologies in advance if this is off-base. Assuming this is a rare, the base effect has similarities to Sarkhan the Masterless, gaining some burn potential and freedom from running Dragons in exchange for not totally obliterating a board. This seems largely fair, and has a cute counterplay of only swinging with your largest threat. The Mirage cost introduces a fun twist, and were it not for the face damage could conceivably be white. I quite like this as a response! 10/10

"A weird little wizard, ain't ya?" Doer takes a few bites from the food, without averting his gaze from the coyote, but soon stops eating altogether. It's clear the cat is more interested in the animal than in the mirages it can show. "Meow brother always says that it's impolite to refuse offered food... but I prefer to catch meowne!" In a flash, the cat appears behind Cygari, ready to cut down the animal. Will it turn tail? Run from meow? Or will it accept its fate as meow prey?

Cygari's sands feel even more unnatural than usual, as if something alien was bubbling slowly up from deep below the earth. The mirages were tinged with eerie color even as the desert faded to dreary sepia.
A scorpion skittered past a strange geometric formation resembling some sort of many-limbed creature half buried in the sand, only to be pulled under by a glowing, goopy tendril from below ground. The scion awoke from its dormancy as glowing ooze seeped from the cracks in its skin, eventually dripping off to reveal a new, more arachnid form beneath, complete with a wicked, syringe-like stinger filled with the same slime that filled its veins and glowed through the cracks of its eldritch carapace.
With a mandible click, the scion began to wander the desert, seemingly searching for prey.

Before Cygari can decide what to do with this information, the cat has disappeared into his breach. Cygari examines the tear, then Doer's wriggling tribute.
The slippery coyote doesn't seem to notice Doer sneaking up behind them this time. The mace connects, but feels strangely as it does, like Doer just smashed a sand castle rather than a skull. Purple smoke erupts all over, and when it clears, the coyote is gone.
For several long seconds, the desert is quiet.
And then the howling begins. At first, in the distance, then louder, then louder, louder, louder, until it feels like every grain of sand in the desert is howling in unison. Clouds gather around the sun, taking a deep purple color while the sun turns deep red, almost like sunset, if you ignored that it was the middle of the day. The howling finally stopped as the sun blinked, darkening the desert for a moment. In the returning light, the form of the coyote in the clouds was now clear, towering over the horizon and tiny little Doer.

Extreme Prejudice: Admittedly, this feels weird. 7 damage is a rare value for damage, but given Cinderstorm and Inescapable Blaze this seems about right rate-wise. The weirdest (both in the cool and not-cool way) part of the card is the "spell put in graveyard without resolving" clause, which kind of seems just like can't be countered with added fizzle protection... which in the case of Skittering Replicant is actually a cool counter! Because of that, I'm going to be charitable on that front and ignore some of my slight misgivings. 9/10
The scion is burnt away with a screech in the ball of fire, and soon the blasted terrain lay dead... for a moment. Molten glass soon twisted itself into proper limbs and a decoy 'head' as a new, far more brittle Eldrazi rose from the grave of the old. It began to sweep forward, the ground yielding to spiraling patterns of desaturated, geometric stone seemingly coated with a bright, swirl-patterned liquid akin to oil or paint, parts of the scion seemingly reflected in its glass.
Twisted Rippleform Creature - Eldrazi Reflection Flash When Twisted Rippleform enters the battlefield, you may change a target of target spell or ability to it. --------------------------------- It is illusion and reality in equal measure. 1/1
