Nice and simple bear with a flavorful ability, i like it. viriss Another simple yet flavorful card, but for some reason menace on an assassin feels a little odd to me thaneofglamis I like the idea you were going for, but it is overpowered. For example discard outlets would allow you to get you combo pieces insanely quickly and load your entire graveyard. maybe make it so you have to pay per card draw, and limit the uses per turn ZephyrPhantom I love the use of vanishing to represent the aetherborns short life, I also like the idea of aetherborn taking others down with them. I really liked all of your entries. but the winner is

Thanks for the win! Your next creature type is Trilobite, but with a catch - the trilobite must have two or more colors in its color identity! (Color identity is determined by the mana symbols on the casting cost, color indicator, and rules text. Reminder text doesn't count towards color identity.)
Good luck!

I 100% agree, and if I could change it I would make it so it only works the first time you discard each turn. Anyway, I'm so glad to see Trilobites getting some love! I adore the obscure creature types.

Don't know much about Trilobites but from what I gather from wikipedia they tend to be very diverse... {Old Wording} Adaptive Trilobite Creature - Trilobite ~ enters the battlefield with a vigilance counter if was spent to cast it. ~ enters the battlefield with a hexproof counter if was spent to cast it. ~ enters the battlefield with a deathtouch counter if was spent to cast it. ~ enters the battlefield with a haste counter if was spent to cast it. 2/3 While the oracle text does barely fit on a card, I'm sure there's a more efficient way of wording this.

Going to bump this up real quick to see if we can get a few more submissions, otherwise I'll likely close and judge by the weekend.

A bit busy lately but I'd like to keep the competition moving, so judging might be a bit brief. Feel free to PM me for more detailed critique. thaneofglamis - Very clean and elegant design that's a clear reference to something while keeping in line with ramp. I think the big questionable part of this card is - in modern design cards like Generator Servant and Catalyst Elemental imply the other half of this card should be . Other than that I have no real issues with it. SilentKobold - Keyword counters are enabling some old things to become a lot easier to write, and I think you demonstrate that well here. A fairly interesting card that doesn't feel too out of place on Ikoria that could be a cute set one-off to encourage players to play multicolor more. I think if you really wanted this to be Ikoria-styled though (keeping the watermark in mind) you should've limited its colors to one of the wedges, similar to equivalent Ravnican cards like Patagia Viper. viriss - Interesting use of making the effect slow enough in the colorless mode so that it can be a plausible colorless creature that also can be unearthed as a small black/red burn spell. To be honest, I think the is almost a little bit too clever - Black tends to stick to damage to creatures only if it also gains life, and it doesn't feel particularly 'volcanic' in the context of this card (even though I know there are quite a few cards that do have volcanic flavor). The hybrid symbol ends up drawing a little bit of attention away from how interesting the design is as a whole, but I could see this as set-ready, especially given that Ikoria has recently indicated colorless non-Eldrazi creatures are indeed okay. MacabreAurora - "Enters the battlefield with twice X +1/+1 counters" sounds a bit off - I feel like doing a Gyrus, Waker of Corpses kind of phrasing with "~ enters the battlefield with a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to twice the amount of mana spent to cast it." might feel a bit more clear. I feel like this card doesn't actually feel all that much differently from Soulflayer, to the point I'd argue the keyword counter tech here is kind of unnecessary - like, cards from a plane don't have to use the mechanics from that plane, e.g. Magic Origins. That said, variety is the spice of life, and people might still appreciate this as a Soulflayer-esque callback with a role of its own - I think it just doesn't excite me as much because it feels so close to a functional reprint. I feel like something's missing or needs to be tweaked before I "get" this card's appeal, because all the components are there but the final package just somehow doesn't stick the landing to me. 1st: viriss - Of the designs here I think this one struck a good balance between "being well put together" and "being innovative" and I feel like it cleverly acknowledge both its modes as a colorless creature with a minor effect and a minor burn spell. Hybrid symbol is a bit of an extra bell/whistle in a context where less is more, but I could accept it if the set was multicolor. 2nd: SilentKobold - Solid idea, Ikoria implication trips it up slightly but that doesn't detract from the fact it's a clean design.

ameisenmeister Sugoi! This little blue devil. Cheaper than Scroll Thief but not as effective, at first. Solid Jartis Creepy water monster! I definitely see the Beast, not sure about the otter. I do like the beefy biter just waiting for you to draw. thaneofglamis I see the Weird, not sure about the otter. This one is harder to judge because it really requires other cards to see its potential. I do kinda of wish it wasn't a balanced creature so it could effect itself. But then I'd prefer "may". Winner: ameisenmeister

Now, everybody, please design a nice shapeshifter (or shapeshifteresque noncreature card).
Have fun!

Fun fact: instead of the link, you can embed the actual image in your post, either by choosing the "Copy BBCode" option on imgur or by using the Insert Image button along the bar at the top of the post editor. Linked Double Creature - Shapeshifter Linked Double enters the battlefield as a copy of another creature on the battlefield, except it has, "Whenever a creature that shares a name with this creature dies, sacrifice this creature" and, "Whenever this creature dies, each player sacrifices each creature they control that shares a name with this creature." 0/0

Judging time coming in
Very cool card which is creative and yet easily understandable. And it makes megamorph look cool, which really means something.
Nice card and an interesting commander for our favorite mtg format. Looks a lot like Dimir Doppelganger to me but kind of worse.
Powerful clone machine on legs. You can copy your opponents' best creatures and they also count as trilobites wizards for your tribal deck... And that for only five mana?! A bit weird that it doesn't have changeling itself, though.
Interesting card that takes shapeshifting to a new level of craziness. This could backfire harshly if someone controls a 0/0 creature that entered with +1/+1 counters but I guess that's part of the fun. But I really dislike that you used the name of an already existing card instead of coming up with a new name.
I see what you did there. A clone that is also kind of an removal piece that works against hexproof and indestructible creatures. Cool idea! Is it too greedy when I wish that this costed instead, seeing how bad it is in copying your own creatures?
So it's a sometimes-anthem effect that ends up being a one time Coat of Arms. It's okay but not that exciting and doesn't has the real shapeshifter flavor imo.
{And the winner is...} silentkobold Flawless design makes for interesting gameplay with a supposedly useless mechanic. Runner up is somerandomperson.
Thanks everyone for participating!

Thanks for the win, I always wished wizards had explored the turning-face-down interactions with megamorphs even if only on a rare cycle.
While technically not creatures, they're most useful when they are; your next type is Vehicle
