{Judging} { Idea}Love the addition of Shade to the type, and the ability is very unique! The ability seems complex enough to warrant a rare, I think. But then I'd probably remove the "once per turn" and the conditional attack/block line as well. Would have been cool if it had some variant of the Shade ability. { melono}Straight-forward, clean design, and appropriately powered/costed/rared(?). I like it! { serraphim}This is an interesting card that doesn't really have an equal in Magic yet as far as I know. I can image Hyenas having this niche quality to them, of being able to attack, but then becoming untapped "if they didn't find prey," so they can be used for other abilities as well. Tapping for mana wouldn't be my first instinct for Hyenas, maybe a +1/+1 counter, a Food token, or small life syphon. It feels more like an uncommon than a rare to me. Note that "target" shouldn't be in the cost of an ability, so here, you would need to word it as "exile a creature card from an opponent's graveyard." { ameisenmeister}I like it! Clean design, love the flavor text, and I like how the design inherently limits to once per turn without having to state it so. Feels like a strong common that I'd happily pick during a draft. { Jartis}This feels very strong! First turn hybrid, that I can make progressively bigger without mana (can make it into a 5/5 for 6 life right away if I wanted to), with additional cool "clone-ish me" on kills is quite good. The same abilities with mana as costs would make it more balanced I think. Other than that, the final ability is really neat. I couldn't help but think of the Gnolls from Orcs Must Die when reading your card. Final nitpick: If this is your only creature, and it "kills" a creature, it will have to turn itself into a 4/3; "another target creature you control" would fix it. { spruder}That's a cute art! I like the homage to the Thallids, and would make for a pretty good one if it mutated onto one, but unless the creature it mutes on is already making spores, I think this is a little weak (especially for a rare). The fight ability is great, and I love to see Saprolings being used in that way. I think a casting and mutate cost both at mana value of 3, and it being a 3/3 would be fine for it. {Winning}Interesting how every entry had in it, while WotC has 0 black hyenas so far. I too would have designed a one as well... The winner is ameisenmeister for a clean design that also feels like a good representation of what Hyenas feel like they would be! (And it happens to show a nice way of getting around my general unhappiness with the "once per turn" designs that WotC has been using a lot more lately than they used to.) Was so glad to see so many great entries with such creative design elements! Thanks everyone!

Now design a frog creature or a frog-ish noncreature card, please.
Have fun!

Here we go. Bit of a weird-bo with Grolnok, the Omnivore. It allows Grolnok to recur your creatures, if you have a way of getting rid of the Carnivorous Toad. If you don't...well, you've got a big trampler.

Hi, I'm not officially back yet. The Price of Yar-Kul's Ambition (As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter. Sacrifice after IV.)I--Create Yar-Kul, a legendary black 0/1 Human Minion creature token with “This creature enters the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it” and “As long as this creature has no counters on it, it’s an Insect Minion.” II--Remove all counters from another target permanent. III--You may sacrifice a creature. If you do, draw two cards and create a 1/3 black Frog creature token with reach. IV--You may sacrifice a Frog. If you do, each opponent loses 3 life and you create Yargle, a legendary black 9/3 Frog Spirit creature token. Legendary Enchantment--Saga Does anybody know how to fix the problem of MSE using the wrong font in the text box and refusing to italicize reminder & flavor texts?

Does anybody know how to fix the problem of MSE using the wrong font in the text box and refusing to italicize reminder & flavor texts? It might seem a stupid question but have you made sure you've got the correct fonts installed? If your haitus involved fussing with your computer, your setup mighta got frazzled and the fonts might not be installed.

Judging time! Jartis Well, the card doesn't really make sense without one specific other card which is not a plus in my book. Also it isn't particularly powerful. Rot Shambler sure has one less power and toughness and lacks trample, but is easier to cast and still lets your creatures hit the graveyard for later shenanigans. I assume you have a Grolnok deck and wanted to cater to it, because in a vacuum, Carnivorous Toad doesn't make much sense. BouncearamaCute card that takes a while to get rolling but is already a solid play without ever copying itself. Nice work! serraphim I don't like islandwalk and the art here doesn't really show an amphibioid life cycle, but that out of the way, I think the card's decent. I especially like the self bounce effect so you can pump out more tadpoles. With a mana value of 5, however, it's pretty slow and The Bears of Littjara is probably a better card most of the time. Idea So it just gulps down everything to spit it out later. Cute. I expect the activated ability only to be used in the most niche of situations, given that you sac a 4/6 creature and give your opponents at least one creature back for one measly mana. vizionarius That card's quite a lot. It cares about creatures with reach, about creatures with power 2 or less and it also copies stuff. I see how all of these things somewhat interact but it's more like a mixed bag than a clear battle plan. I guess this is the kind of card that you'd have to play with before you really can judge its potential. It looks interesting enough though to be worth a try. sdfkjgh I took the time to enter your card's text into a real MSE template and this is what I got: {Spoiler} I tried to adjust the chapter boxes optimally but still ended up with a nightmare of a wordy card. The issue here is that your card wants to be flavorful but ignores practicability. I get that the first chapter is the introduction of General Yar-Kul, the second is his demotion (aka getting turned into a maggot), the third him being eaten by a frog and eventually his rebirth as a ravenous spirit on chapter four. All of this is solid but too convoluted. In actual game play, the interaction between the created Yar-Kul and the second chapter will basically never happen. Why should I ever remove counters from my own creature? Why should I sacrifice a 2/3 creature when I probably have some 1/1s sitting around anyway? Why does the third chapter have you draw cards and the fourth opponents lose life? As far as I can tell, it's not for flavor reasons so I guess it's because the card would be too weak otherwise, am I right? To sum up, I like you idea here and would love to see a saga showing the hilarious creation of Yargle, but this card only reads like a good story but won't play like one. {And the winner is...}pistonsmcgraw! Solid design that works on its own with the potential to get out of hand if left unchecked. Cool card! Thank you all for participating!

ameisenmeister: You're right about the card draw and life loss. I figured the ability to kill a planeswalker in Chapter II might be a little too subtle, so I decided to sweeten it a little. Mebbe a better sweetening would've been a lower mana cost.

I'll be officially back soon, but for now, have a thing. I was originally gonna make a whole new Kobold that did somewhat clever things with mana value 0 permanents (I actually did make it just now, because it's an interesting design), but then I remembered that I already had a design made, and one whose canonicity was much more well-established than anything new I could make: Tucker's Kobolds Creature--Kobold Soldier Rogue Flash This spell can’t be countered. This creature has indestructible and protection from opponents as long as it isn’t a token, and isn’t legendary as long as it is a token. At the beginning of each player’s upkeep, that player ventures into the dungeon. (They choose which dungeon.)
Whenever an opponent ventures into a dungeon or this creature dies, create a token copy of this creature, then for each creature you control named Tucker’s Kobolds, that creature deals 1 damage to each opponent and each creature and each planeswalker that player controls. 0/1 In case any of you wanted to see what that other design was: Kher Keep Homeguard Legendary Creature--Kobold Soldier Affinity for nonland permanents with mana value 0. Storm Token copies of Kher Keep Homeguard aren't legendary. When Kher Keep Homeguard enters the battlefield, create a token copy of each nonland permanent you control with mana value 0. Sacrifice X permanens: Draw X cards. 0/1
