ZephyrPhantomRead through everything again, and got some notes. Sigil still references mana pools Description of combat is inconsistent: B will also rate C’s card, or C will make one card responding to each attacker, in which case A and B will rate only their respective cards. Change Conflux achievement to CIL 5 Change Epic Proportions achievement to be mana value 10 Holistic wisdom: specify whether or not this achievement now require buying tribal. Change One with Nothing achievement to be mana value Change Blind Seer to be Conjure

Many thanks as always PWW.
V1.21
- Combat description rewritten slightly to make things less ambiguous - specifically, if player C is attacked by multiple players A and B, C will make one card responding to each attacker, in which case A and B will rate only their respective cards. - Addendum to combat - You are allowed to reuse previous custom designs your character made for Attack/Defend/Gift/Assist. Like anything else in this game, recipients should rate based on how appropriate the reuse was for the situation. - Remaining mentions of mana pool in Sigil of the Commander removed. - Conflux now uses proper color identity wording - Epic Proportions now uses mana value wording - Holistic Wisdom now requires Tribal for all characters that get the achievement after this patch. If you got the achievement before that you're exempt. - Blind Seer now uses conjure wording.

There are perks for new card types/supertypes, new keywords, and new colors.
Can we create new zones? I ask because the main bulk of Purple, as I use in my custom sets (and thus would use it on BB), interacts with a new zone called the Archive. Other colors also interact with it, but Purple has the most direct means of putting cards into, and getting cards out of, the Archive zone. Would a new Perk need to be created to allow this?

I'm actually surprised the rules didn't cover this! I'll make a perk that lets you do it once you've brought it. I think the level of change this would impart to a game would be similar to a new card type or supertype being introduced so I'll introduce it as a new advanced perk (i.e. costs 2 skill points to buy) that reads as follows: As always this is open to rebalancing based on feedback.

If we're adding Breach Specialist, should we also add a Lotus Bloom / Librarian of Leng -style achievement for it?

If we're adding Breach Specialist, should we also add a Lotus Bloom / Librarian of Leng -style achievement for it? Yep. Stealth added as: • Through the Breach : Your previous character has created a new zone that has had at least five cards with ratings of 8/10 or above.

Would the Dungeon card type be unlocked with the Venture keyword, or do you buy the card type separate?

Would the Dungeon card type be unlocked with the Venture keyword, or do you buy the card type separate? Seeing as they completely overlap, yes - will be shortly added as a perk named Triumphant Adventurer.

Where do Lessons fit in? My assumption that I'll be rolling with is that it basically requires a point and would be an unlisted "perk" (and Learn would also be it's own point bc it functions very well without Lessons).

I'll post again when I can officially update but:
Lessons - Yeah, I think those should be in the naturally unlocked I/S subtypes.
Also, I notice Initiative is an upcoming mechanic, but due to the large differences in how it functions from normal Venture I may note in Triumphant Adventurer that it has to be unlocked separately, much like Hidden Agenda and Renowned Spy.

In the Getting Started Guide where we define that you're allowed to make tokens, should we specify that while you are free to use canon tokens like Clue, Treasure, Food, etc, you have to buy non-canon tokens like Vials?

Yes, if you plan to make a token 'evergreen' you have to pay for it like you would a keyword. A note for this has been added in both the rules here and Getting Started. The previous rulings mentioned have also been added to Battle Boards V1.213.

The clarification needs clarification: What do we mean by "make it evergreen"? While Treasure tokens are probably deciduous by this point, I don't think Clue or Food tokens are evergreen; could it just say if you want to use non-canon tokens, you need to pay for it like you would a keyword?

Was having trouble finding the right words for it, yeah. Non-canon is a much better wording and I'll edit that shortly.

The third bullet point of "Attacking and Defending with Multiple Cards" refers to spending mana, which has been removed.

This is more of a thought experiment question than anything, but I'm curious: Let's say Phasing didn't exist. No one at Wizards thought of it in the 90's, we live in a world without Teferi's Protection, yadda yadda yadda. If someone here designed Phasing ("Oh wow what if I could make stuff leave the battlefield without it actually leaving the battlefield??") Do we think we'd count it as "another zone"? Purely a keyword mechanic? Both? Neither? My guess is probably a keyword since that is most in line with it, but it's just a strange fringe zone because "not existing" isn't a zone, but y'know, what would be most in line with the spirit of the game?
Now, this might sound like "oh he's got something up his sleeve like Phasing he's thinking about", and you'd be wrong. Me am dumb. No good design ideas. I was just thinking about it when I was browsing the perks and saw the one that lets you use a new zone (Breach Specialist). Seeing it as a perk has made me try to come up with a new zone to muck around with, to no avail.
Editing - While I'm here, I should mention, if you're watching Zeph, Battles are a new card type that can be listed. Since the subtype Siege specifically flips, I imagine you'd need DFC to do it since technically there could be a Battle without a backside since the reminder text on cards refers to Sieges explicitly, even though we have 0 non-Siege battles.

If Phasing had come out today I think WOTC might have even not bothered and just made it flicker. It's an interesting line of thought though because Phasing offers specific mechanical differences that flickering doesn't, but those differences are only important to us now because of the general insistence to retain Phasing's original effect. Re:Zone ideas, my first thought is probably adding something to the middle of the battlefield. I have a friend that was big on exploiting the Interplanar Brushwagg card in my playgroup, but you can see serious takes on it in other games like Yugioh adding Extra Monster Zones or the river in Chinese Chess. Lanes are also a pretty popular concept in resource-related cardgames, ranging from common mobile games to Richard Garfield's use of them in Spectromancer and Solforge. Re: Battles - Yep, I still keep an eye on this board and will update it if anyone asks. I'll give it ~1-2 days for anyone else to give feedback if they feel strongly about it, but otherwise expect the following changes: - Battles are now a type mastery that can be purchased. - Sieges will be added to the DFC features you unlock when you buy Twin-Souled.

I see the logic for it, and historically we try and adjust perks so that new types can be designed "as WOTC intended" for as few skill points as possible (e.g. Bestow), but stretching beyond the design will require extra points. I'll bundle Battle with Sieges for now, and make a note on the Type Mastery ruling that players do not have to buy Twin-Souled as of this patch. Once non-Siege battles start getting added we can revisit the idea.

do you need Multityper for Sieges still, or is that included in the Battle exception? You don't need Multityper, just the other type your Battle will flip into. Added this as 1.217. (To be precise, where you will actually need Multiyper would be if your front face had something like "Artifact Battle" or your back face had multiple types like "Artifact Creature". I may eventually errata Multityper to only check the indvidual faces of a DFC if we get more types like this where a card is realistically only able to flip into something besides its starting type.)

In the vein of all of this, am I blind or is making a custom subtype just a free thing I can do? I combed the perks/achievements and didn't see anything for subtypes explicitly, just type and super type. If I just missed it, I have already done it on a current character so will just refund Twin-Souled (since it is currently unneeded for Sieges and I have not used it any way). Otherwise we're chilling.
