Here's a fun little game: I will either create a card or choose a pre-existing one, and the other players will make another card as though that card was part of a cycle. After a week, I judge, and the winner does the next card. Wash, rinse repeat. For our first card, I shall do an example: Our starting card: And my "entry" Brutality Enchantment - Aura Whenever enchanted creature deals damage to an opponent, Brutality deals 1 damage to that opponent.

Cool idea for a design game, but it might be hurt just by the fact of how weak the card you designed is. You have to pay for an aura and have to get through with the enchanted creature just to deal 1 extra damage?! If I cast Volcanic Hammer I immediately get three times more value out of an already underwhelming card.
However, here's my pitch:

Adaptivity Enchantment - Aura Enchant creature Whenever enchanted creature deals damage to a player, untap target permanent you control. This was way too strong, nerfed it substantially

I gonna do the no-brainer here: Ignorance Encahntment - Aura Enchant creature Whenever enchanted creature deals damage to an opponent, that player discards a card. Not sure if it should cost or just . Thanks for the advice ameisenmeister!

ameisenmeisterOh yeah, my design was weak as heck, mostly because I was just trying to give an example and not actually make anything good. Loving all the creativity in the thread already though, it's going to be really hard to choose a favorite.

Let's take this from another angle... Savagery Enchantment - Aura Enchant creature Whenever enchanted creature becomes blocked, draw a card.

Alright, time for judging! (Yes, it is five hours early but I don't foresee any lase minute additions) ameisenmeister : Audacity is a cool concept. It seems REALLY powerful with any pinger though, and for just one mana you essentially are guaranteed at leas two in that case. thaneofglamis : Love where the card ended up. Untapping any permanent is more of a blue/green thing but I don't think it's too much of colorbend. Flo00 : The Anti-Curiosity! Love it, not a ton to say here. It seems relatively balanced. ZephyrPhantom : This seems very powerful, but not in a bad way. I'd maybe drop it to two life since it is a recurring effect, but otherwise seems pretty decent. @silentkolbold: This was all sorts of out of left field, and it seems like a really cool card. The only thing I might change is make it "blocked or becomes blocked" to make it more versatile, as opponents can just choose to not block and deny you the card, limiting its versatility. Overall, these were some really cool cards. But for the first challenge, I think the winner is Flo00, with thaneofglamis as the runner up! This means Flo00 will be choosing our next card to make a cycle out of.

Thanks for the win jamesbrafin! I just hit the random button, until I found something I like. In this case, the next challenge is Cindervines.

Lawbindings Enchantment Non-land permanents your opponents control enter the battlefield tapped. , sacrifice Lawbindings: Exile target creature or artifact. Scry 2, then draw a card. I sorely wanted to make permanent spells cost 1 more to cast, but I felt like that might be a touch too powerful for a 2-drop. But tapping things down, exiling, and Scry+Draw all felt very white/blue to me. Should it be scry 3 do you think?

Watermurk Vines Enchantment Whenever an opponent casts a noncreature spell, target creature gets -1/-0 until end of turn. , Sacrifice Waturmurk Vines: Destroy target tapped creature. You gain life equal to it's toughness. Not totally happy with this; I think the triggered ability is a bit weak.

JUDGED! {jamesbrafin}Lawbindings is a Blind Obedience that you can turn into a kind of Blessed Light + Preordain. No I don't think this should be scry 3. I think this should be more expensive. Maybe 3 mana to cast and 5 or 6 mana to sacrifice. {SilentKobold} Nekusar is my favourite commander, so you definitely got my attention with this one. This seems balanced and I like how it combos with copies of itself to possibly do a finishing move by sacing one for the effect of the other. {gamma3}Thats a nice version of Stony Silence. The only mean thing is that it switches planeswalkers off completely. Everything else, I like. {inferno390}That's a strange one. For one, you're right, the trigger is quite weak. It mainly tells your oppnents to cast spells after ombat and makes combat tricks a bit worse. Second, the trigger should either only target your opponents' creatures or be optional (you may have target creature get...). Else when your opponent has no creatures they can make you shrink your own creatures which is a bit frustrating. And third, directly destroying creatures is something neither green nor blue does. (Ok, in 's case, let's say doesn't do since somewhere around Alara.) So this is kind of off-color. Maybe it should just bounce? {thaneofglamis}I like weird build-arounds. This even has a use as counterpiece against reanimator or opponents exiling your grave. I also like how it combos with copies of itself. I'm just a bit worried it is a bit too effective it can give you quite a ton of life for just two mana with just one spell that exiles a graveyard.

Blessed Quandary Enchantment Whenever an opponent casts a spell, you may gain 5 life. If you don't, create a 4/4 white Angel creature token with Flying. I think the wording is similar enough here that it will work like intended. Nukes red aggro decks.

Quandary of the Mind Enchantment You have no maximum hands size. Whenever an opponent casts a spell, you may draw two cards unless that player puts the top three cards of their library into their graveyard.

While completing the submissions with a one would be cute, I also think it'd end up being a rather boring burn design, so let's try something a little more unusual: Refractive Quandary Enchantment Whenever an opponent casts a spell, you may change any targets of that spell unless that player has you copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy. "I don't mind if it's thermodynastatic or kinelectranomic. I just want a bigger boom."Might seem more situational than the others but keep it mind that it can completely blank most removal, especially in EDH where multiple players will have multiple valid targets floating around. You can likely do a lot of table politics over where you'd direct your copies.

{ inferno390}Seems a little too pushed. Creating a flying threat every time an opponent casts a spell snowballs far too quickly, especially since it also heals you in a pinch. I think this largely stems from the fact that, unlike painful quandary, your opponent no longer has the ability to choose the worst option, thereby giving you too much versatility with two powerful effects. {@jamesbrafin}This reminds me a lot of Rhystic Study and Mystic Remora (two cards I like far more than most commander players), though I feel that the choices are a too unbalanced as milling is preferable in just about every situation. Especially in the formats that can support a five mana enchantment. This could maybe be remedied with an exile effect instead to limit your opponent's chance to take advantage of the extra cards in graveyard. Otherwise, a change of the effect's nature to something like a mana tax effect may be necessary. { thaneofglamis}Well balanced and fitting naturally into green, I could see this being printed officially. Flavour-wise, I'm not sure what's monstrous about the life choice of the quandary, though this is an easy change to something like hunter's quandary or predator's quandary. { ZephyrPhantom}Funnily enough, with effects like Bolt Bend and Ricochet Trap this could've actually worked in mono red, fitting right into their chaos themes too. While I do like the deeper political ramifications of this effect, it is still a little disappointing that there is very little decision making, politics aside, as it boils down to: Does the spell have targets? YES -> Both players cast the spell. NO -> Only the opponent casts the spell. Additionally, it's quite ambiguous how the copy effect interacts with auras, permanent spells that an opponent is likely to let you copy. Creating a token copy of the aura as the copy resolves could solve this problem mechanically. Though despite being a rare, the quandary would need a piece of reminder text to clarify that. Otherwise, an instant/sorcery clause needs to be specified. Hope this isn't too nitpicky, I'm genuinely unsure if this is intended to affect all spells like the Painful Quandary or only nonpermanents.{Winner}Congratulations thaneofglamis, we await your next challenge. jamesbrafin is our runner up if necessary.

Instead of distributing and multiplying counters, why not distribute and multiply spells:

Hope this isn't too nitpicky, I'm genuinely unsure if this is intended to affect all spells like the Painful Quandary or only nonpermanents.I think it's a fair point that I should've specified at least noncreature and definitely instant/sorcery - there's enough cards that do copy/change target that I think the color identity could go either way as well. I can see how that took away emphasis from trying to encourage people to mess with targeting spells and drew focus towards the bigger question of "Does it target" instead. With that said, here's my take on the next challenge: Philosophic Pondering Sorcery Scry 3, then Scry 2, then Scry 1. Introspective iteration can lead to inspiration.

Lets go with the obvious one I think Contagion Explosion Sorcery Distribute three -1/-1 counters among one, two, or three target creatures, then double the number of -1/-1 counters on each of those creatures.

Why not a permanent? Dwindling Blazefire Creature-Elemental Haste Dwindling Blazefire enters the battlefield with 3 +1/+1 counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a +1/+1 counter from Dwindling Blazefire. 0/0

This seems like a neat thing for neat people. Wish-Giver's Winds Sorcery Put a flying counter on target creature, then put a flying and a prowess counter on another target creature, then put a flying, a prowess, and a hexproof counter on a third target creature. Whenever one those creatures deal combat damage to a player or planeswalker this turn, scry 1.
