I did consider your suggestion of killing the creature when it attacks, but ultimately I went for the more familiar template.

Your next challenge is to make a card for an existing Universes Beyond property (such as Stranger Things, Godzilla, or even the newly announced Assassin’s Creed) or a property intended for young children (Think Sesame Street or Dora the Explorer)

A short explanation would be helpful as I may not be familiar with the property you choose.

We usually see land destruction in red these days, but it’s totally in pie for green as well. The drawback for hitting a basic is interesting, but I think it would read better as an upside for hitting a nonbasic to be in line with other effects. For me, it seems you’re only going to destroy a basic if it’ll take your opponent entirely off a color, and even then you’re replacing the land, so that seems weak. Definitely an interesting use for land tokens though.

Sanfonier of the Night:
That’s a whole lot of damage for a whole lot of mana. To me, this basically boils down to 15 damage for 14 mana thanks to both its Atomic Breath plus haste and attacking for 15 with Gargantuan, plus a whole bunch of extra stuff if it sticks around. Ultimately, it is just an expensive burn spell stapled to an expensive huge creature. Very fitting for the King of Monsters, but even Godzilla, Primeval Champion only costs 9.

Flo00:
Based on your explanation, the flavor here is spot-on. Playing this makes your opponents think twice about tapping their artifacts, but it still lets them if they want to, and the summoning sickness gives everyone a turn’s worth of notice before this starts exiling things. I’m not sure if this has a home anywhere, being a 5 mana 3/3 with an ability that is only relevant sometimes, but the design is interesting.

Bouncearama:
For the sake of this review, I’m going to assume you have plenty of space in your autograph book to sign Sol Ring, and will be able to untap an artifact every turn. This is a powerful effect, but I don’t think it’s broken, since it’s limited to once a turn. I don’t know this character very well, but the card seems more blue than anything else.

I’ll give the win here to pistonsmcgraw for the commander which feels like it has some neat synergies without being overpowered.

Runner-up goes to Flo00 for the interesting and flavorful card that unfortunately doesn’t seem to have a place.

Hey Bouncearama try to change your challenge, I didn't know any of those franchises, so I can't make justice to those.

A long time ago someone challenged me to make cards based on the color of Gant, which puts in an interesting spot for this prompt because I was trying to capture the idea of "the colour that’s left when all others are devoured" while skewing away from Fallen London a bit. Here's my original draft for it, for reference, lore and all:



The design I present tries to fuse a bit of Fallen London's Gant themes with my challenge prompt Gant's inflexibility and deprivation themes.

The Treachery of Breath {A}
Sorcery
Destroy target creature. You may only play sorcery spells for the rest of this turn.
"A link to death, dying, and that which was."

Being able to play around the limitation by ordering your spells correctly is intended. Compare Infernal Grasp, which is more reliable at Instant speed, ensuring Black is still top dog in creature kill.

Sick for the forseeable future, so this will be short:

emberfire17 - Good summary of the character and interesting value engine, add the custom ability text and it feels very in line with a modern WOTC commander design.

Daij_Djan - Wasn't it SEELE that had the mass-produced Evangelions? Slight disconnect aside I get what you were going for and that it'd be a bit hard to limit to exactly to a set number of them and keep the card graceful. I'm not sure how much I like that this could be any mecha anime if it wasn't for the token names, but tbf cards like these are usually part of a larger set, so it feels bad to be too hard on the design for it. I thought maybe it should it explicitly reward Pilots of CMC2 but that seems too forced a restriction for an already small tribe.

Idea - Good concise lore explanation. I think even if someone has not watched Monogatari they would get the spirit of it, especially the subversive flavor that 'protect' can mean multiple things. It's a fresh Journey to Nowhere variant that's powered down a little in a way that I could see fitting well into current standard.

I'd say Idea wins because their cards really crunches out the duality of the referenced moment neatly with how you can point it at ally and enemy pairs alike, so that it works as a common removal slot while keeping its flavor intact.
