Time to prove your virtue – welcome to The Name Game! This is a weekly game. Each week, a word will be chosen and you'll be tasked with designing a card featuring the given word in its name. Additional restrictions may be added (like: „Design a non-red card with 'Fire' in its name.“). The challenge setter judges after about a week and chooses a winner, and that winner sets and judges the next challenge.
As some of you might have noticed, The Name Game was an already existing game until around two weeks ago, when its thread disappeared. After some research, I'm afraid the old thread was deleted by a team member by accident while dealing with a bot's spam post – and sadly as such we're not able to restore it. Because of this I set up this new thread, pinging ameisenmeister (who won the previous round) to offer the new challenge.

Thanks Daij_Djan!
In fact, I will just repost the word I've posted right before the thread was deleted: mask
So for anyone who's new: just design a card with the word mask in its name. It's also fine to use masked or even masquerade or something in that vein.
Have fun everyone!

Wondered why I hadn't seen anything. For now, I'll leave this here: Elspeth's Mask Legendary Artifact Whenever you play a Legendary Creature or Planeswalker, choose one: • Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature or put a loyalty counter on target planeswalker. • Creature a 1/1 white Human Soldier creature token. You gain 1 life. • Creatures you control get +1/+1 for each legendary permanent you control until end of turn.

I'll go with a top-down design inspired by the artwork:
Concerning the wording: As the Angel can only wear one mask at the time, it becomes the chosen color - still the wording needs to grant it protection from all of its colors in case other cards might mess with it

Spectral Masquerade Instant Exile all creatures you control in a face-down pile, shuffle that pile, then manifest those cards. Designed along the lines of Eerie Interlude.

It's judging time!
{viriss} Reads interesting but in reality, you will choose the second mode over the first 90% of the time. The fact that the second mode is a nice two-for-one whereas the first mode is actually card disadvantage makes this card's options pretty unbalanced. One could argue that the first mode is just a nice bonus that you can use in niche situations but I like my choose-one-cards to really include choices. However, exchanging cards in an opponent's hand is a cool idea. I always liked Head Games and could certainly see some interesting cards in that mechanical vein.
{Daij_Djan} Very powerful and a certain limited game ender as long as you are able to keep one mana open. I get that the protection from its own colors opens up some crazy combo potential but it then should appear in an environment that has cards that change a creatures color (permanently), because otherwise it would be hard to explain why this creature doesn't just say „ : CARDNAME gains protection of a color of your choice until end of turn.“
{gateways7} It's cool. Seeing that it itself is always at least a 3/2 trample with pseudo-persist for I'd say it's powerful but might be okay for a non-standard set. Speaking about non-standard sets, I must say that I'm a bit confused why you didn't just go with the mask tokens that Estrid creates. Seems like the perfect fit to me and you would avoid the problem of having two types of aura tokens doing almost the same (and even having almost the same name). Would also have been a nice throwback imo.
{Boogymanjunior} Kind of similar to Sword of the Animist but lacks the +1/+1 part. The issue I have with your card is that it can lead to repeated shuffeling in limited games – all you need is a small flyer or a small unblockable creature. This causes the so called loading screens where both players just sit there and wait until the shuffeling is over. The problem here is that limited games usually happen in a tournament setting where people like to shuffle their decks extra carefully, have their opponent cut their deck and everyhing. To make matters worse, games in a tournament setting are usually with a limited time so you can't just lay back like it doesn't matter. All in all, I always enjoyed Sword of the Animist and can definitely see how your card is actually not a bad one. Don't let my hammering on small issues (although it's a relevant one) mkae you think that I trash your card. Because I cartainly don't.
{Flo00} Very cool flavor, name and effect here. I'm not 100% sure about the wording as it could lead to problems with token creatures but I consider this a minor problem that could easily be fixed (if it actually is a problem in the first place). The card goes well in morph decks or decks that make you bounce or flicker your creatures. It is kind of a recall to Eerie Interlude, as you said, but funtions pretty different from that card. A strong design, although the card could probably just cost or let you choose any number of target creatures (just like Interlude) instead of all of them and still be fair.
{And the winner is...} Flo00! With the runner ups Boogymanjunior and Daij_Djan! In the end, Flo00's card was simply the most interesting, yet easy to understand and with a nice flavor to boot. Thank you all for participating and even more thanks to Daij_Djan who brought this design game back after its accidental deletion. It's nice to have mods who care.

Cringeworthy Instant Target creature you control gains deathtouch and another target creature gets -1/-1. Adamant — If at keast three mana was spent to cast this spell, if you attack this turn, each opponent you attack must block with at least one creature.

Okay, very unsure about this one, but here we go. {old version without silver boarder} The picture is not that fitting (although it shows cringe is as old as time) but I couldn't find credit to newer pictures.^^

I knew I forgot one! I just couldn't find it. I'm really tired for now, so I'll just declare viriss the winner. Oh, and Tesagk, you seem to be Riding the Dilu Horse. More judgement after the weekend ... if I don't forget again.

Heavy Swing Sorcery Target creature you control deals damage equal to its toughness to target creature you don't control. The might of the masses too often crumbles before the mass of the mighty.

Heavy Heart Sorcery Until end of turn, if a creature you don't own would be returned to its owner's hand, that creature's owner discards it from their hand. Return target creature to its owner's hand.

I was a little bit liberal with the Magic Wording here ("final" rest) as I couldn't find any real-life example for such a step-by-step sifting. Because the two alternatives would be to either have "them" or "rest" two times one after the other which could maybe lead to weird interpretations like thinking you can "draw" cards discarded this way. First I assumed that there were too many instances of "random" for him to feel blue. But the graveyard sift is blue, the random "draw" blue-red, the bottoming any color and the random discard also blue-red, not least because it is still more of the blue looting than the red looting effect. Or so I thought (my 17th thought this day, yesssss).^^ EDIT: I could see him being a bit weak, but I also imagined this card in a graveyard matters set.

shiftyhomunculus I like the idea of a toughness bite in green. A sort of "this heavy thing swings its bulk at you." Tesagk That could probably be an instant for three colored mana. The return then discard is usual and possibly has rules issues. It basically just a kill spell for opponents creatures. Boogymanjunior This does a lot of work for a french vanilla. lol. But it does do a good amount of moving cards around to where you might want them. It does feel like heavy thinking. ameisenmeister This count probably be an uncommon given how dependant it is on graveyard cards. I like the feeling of building a zombie from left over parts.
