Lotus Capsule: 9/10. Seems a little underwhelming at first glance compared to other Lotus cards. I don't know enough about artifact decks to know quite how bs this could be, but I have to imagine it's very. Yenna gave the capsule back to Arandu at his request, and watched in amazement as it danced under his influence. She took the flower, and began looking at it from every angle once again, paying particular attention to the humming interior. "It's beautiful." She looked back to her forge. "Heh. If only my craft was as easy." And back to the flower. "What's the sound it's making? Or is that just the mana?"Foxtail Forge Legendary Artifact Equip costs of equipment you control cost less to activate. This effect can't reduce the mana in that cost to less than one mana. "It should be the mana reacting, yes. My design attempts to store any energy from the original capsule into a form that translates to sorcery outside of my particular craft. While it won't last long on it's own, someone skilled enough should be able to make use of it, though it works better with other similar devices in unison." He looked up from his craft, pleased at his work, even if he had been reticent to actually use more of his limited resources. "Although if you ever have a friend who needs it, I'd suggest describing it as 'Singular Mana Focus,' in case they don't understand what to do with it."Wait, was he...offering it to her? He didn't seem to be asking for it back, and he'd implied Yenna might need to have someone more able to use it borrow it... Reuse Sorcery — As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice an artifact. Search your library for a noncreature artifact card with converted mana cost less than or equal to 1 plus the sacrificed artifact’s mana value, put that card onto the battlefield, then shuffle. Foxtail Forge: Fun, and fits the niche of a rare artifact with a specific purpose. 10/10.

Like it should probably do one of those two things, but both is a bit much maybe. She put the flower in her hair, trying to determine whether the material would allow it to stay. "Well in that case, I guess I'll hang onto it until then. And until then, it looks pretty. Oh- is this the sort of thing that'll run out if I leave it running too long, or only if someone takes the mana out?" She removes the flower from her hair, and starts looking for a button or switch before thinking aloud, "...how do I turn off the flower?"Artificial Lotus Artifact : Add .

Sacking Foxtail Forge for Artificial Lotus "Ah, hmm, let me..." he began as he leaned forward, a hand absentmindedly placed on top of one of hers as he steadied her hold on the flower. "It's perfectly fine to let it keep going like this, though if the sound is a concern I can try to..." He seemed to notice what he was doing, his eyes flicking in the direction of Yenna's father, who was undoubtedly watching him very carefully, before he cleared his throat and tried to finish the thought, " ...I can try to limit the resonance within the material to prevent that, though it might hamper its capabilities somewhat." His free hand, notably held in such a way it wouldn't accidentally touch Yenna's other hand, took on a faint glow once more as the Lotus shifted under his influence. The flower's audible hum slowly faded out, and Yenna was left with a silent flower that seemed a touch less bright within its center, but thankfully lacking anything that would keep her up at night that couldn't be solved by putting it into a closed shelf. When he was done, Arandu gingerly let go, seeming to tread an equal measure of enjoyment of his work but also treading carefully after his slight social mistake on his part. "That should do it, unless you happen to hear much lower frequencies outside of my own hearing range, in which case I'd be going at this a bit blind to try and silence it for you," he joked, a touch of nervousness to his banter. While Yenna was focused on the flower and the spell Arandu was casting upon it, and seemed to think nothing of the touch, Arandu quickly caught on to the delicate web of who was looking at who, as while he looked to Yenna's father, her father had been looking at the two of them. While there was a mixture of the two in his expression, there seemed to be more aloof curiosity than explicit condemnation. Catching on to the change in vibe, Yenna looked up, and followed Arandu's eyes to her father, who struck his daughter with a look of warning. She seemed confused for a fraction of a moment before looking back to Arandu and immediately realizing what the warning was in relation to, at which she blushed and looked back down to the flower. She takes a moment to look it over again, now that it's been silenced. "Well, I can't hear it anymore, so... I imagine it'll be fine." His smile was...genuine wouldn't be the correct connotation... relieved, at the very least, that he'd managed to ford that particular mistake of his, and ended without sour feelings either way. "I'm, well, pleased you like it Yenna," he managed to respond, some neurons still stuck on the accidental touching of hands and the slight tenseness of the situation given they were being observed. Catching his breath and letting out a small sigh, he took a proper look at the woman across from him, now with a short-masterwork of biomaterial manipulation and mana-capacitance in her hair, as an accessory. Arandu wanted to laugh at the irony, but he did admit it looked quite nice in her hair like that, although given you could only improve near perfection so much...
No, that line of thought was enough to convince him it was time to go.
Rubbing his hands near the warmth of the fire one more time, Arandu stood up, bowing his head slightly towards Yenna. "Thank you for the warmth of your home and your company, Yenna. Though I'm unsure whether it would be polite or impolite for me to stay further, I do have some more work to do out in this area of the plane, though this reprieve was welcome and I grateful for the rest and comfort provided."
He turns to Yenna's father, giving a quiet bow to him as well, before turning back to the one who had invited him. "Goodbye for now, though I hope we might meet again sometime." With that, Arandu turned to leave, stepping out from the Foxtail Forge and back into the brisk chill of the Arena, and off onto further business.

Story Post: After that…
{After that...} Atlani looks finally to Lothaire with a mixture of relief and determination. "I understand, Syr Lothaire, that you are not terribly fond of this blade. I myself have had my... difficulties with it. But, as I brought him here, perhaps it is best I take him away. I have business to attend to back on Tarkir in which he would be quite useful. After that..." Atlani takes a moment to gaze down at the blade…
Well? After that, what? Surely you’ll be made khan, and a mighty khan would need a mighty blade to subjugate her plane.
I have no plans to subjugate the Mardu, much less the plane, Selem. I just want things to go back to how they were. I want my people freed, not to rule them myself.
Silly girl, a mysterious warrior comes from across the Eternities to free them from a race of tyannical dragons? They’d beg you to be khan.
And if they did, surely I could survive off my own merits. What good is a khan if they require a planeswalking blade to keep their throne? Perhaps I’ll do as I did here after you left, and survive off my allies, like Anne, Doer, and Zweil. Maybe I’ll rule with help from… friends.
Friends? You little rat!
before opening a portal behind her. She looks back up to face Lothaire, “I suppose I don’t care what happens to it,” is all she gets out before stepping back, into the portal, which closes promptly, leaving the battlefield quiet as snow begins to fall.
The shrieking clash of steel striking steel sounds for the penultimate time in the Arena as Atlani emerges from a portal outside of a massive tent perched atop a hill. Dark grey smoke escapes from a hole in the top, signalling that its owner is home. A flap in the tent wall opens as an occupant investigates the sound. A woman emerges, shorter than Atlani, wearing a thick, dark green fur cloak, and a colorful, intricately carved wooden mask, with two round holes for her eyes. Her red curled hair spirals out in front of the mask a bit.
“Tokata.”
The woman perks up, and looks to the sword in the warrior’s hand. “Atlani! I take it they worked?” She speaks in a voice younger than that of her customer. “Yes, they were immeasurably helpful.” Atlani sheathes Selem, and brings out her other weapons: The bow she kept from Tarkir, and the sword and shield she received from Zweil. The weapons slowly emit a steady but thin smoke, in various shades of white, red, and green.
“...and you still want them removed?” the masked woman asks.
“I wish for Tarkir to be freed by its own strength. Selem is… irrefutably powerful, but one foreign weapon is more than I would like.”
“Well, alright.” The woman pulled three more masks from beneath her cloak, and began to chant: “Billows of Might, Billows of Peace, of Tenacity, leave this warrior’s weapons, that you might serve a greater purpose.”
The smoke flew from the weapons, gathering itself into one cloud of each of the three colors, resting behind their respective masks. Once the last of the smoke leaves, she puts her weapons back into their sheathes.
“You require no additional payment, correct?”
“Nope! Those furs you gave me are super warm! And with that much meat, I’ll have stew for the rest of the week, you’ve more than paid for borrowing these guys.”
“Then I suppose I’ll be off. I cannot thank you enough.”
“Oh don’t worry about me, you’ve got a whole other plane to worry about. And if I ever stop by Tarkir I’ll be sure to pay you a visit.”
“It would be most welcome.”
Atlani walks a short distance away before drawing Selem one last time.
Well, taken care of all your errands?
I had only the one.
I expected to be killing a dragon by now.
And I shall return you swiftly to that task. …I am impressed you remain by my side.
If we don’t kill any Elder Dragons, I may reconsider.
Point taken.
Striking the air, her portal opens. Atlani steps through, feeling the warm air of the Wastes, a pleasant change of pace from the Arena’s winter.
Home at last. Time to get to work.
Tokata, Maskmaking Maestro and Enchanter Extraordinaire, has entered the Arena! Atlani and Selem’s story will continue if I ever finish Return to Tarkir.

pacifistwestwomanThere was an underappreciated aspect of exploring new locales that Arandu wished he had started with, if he was being honest with himself. Meeting those who already lived here. While Arandu would admit he'd likely qualified by virtue of running into a few individuals already (even if he didn't include that one skirmish), it was the principle of reaching out to those who were nearby on purpose, rather than by coincidence, that had inspired this particular outing.

I like that it's a cheap anthem, and that you need to put more in to get it to work, but you get more out of it if you do. Reminds me of Beastmaster Ascension. Before Arandu even enters the tent, he can hear a young woman's voice within. "Hey, give those back! You know I need those for the blessing later!"Opening the flap, he finds the inside of the tent a much more comfortable temperature than the cold air outside, and sees a unique sight. The tent is not one for a single person to rest, it is the size of a small market, with enough shelves to house a similar amount of inventory. The storefront itself is a 12 foot radius semi-circle, enclosed by seven foot tall, temporary walls, upon which various masks are hung. Many are abstractly humanoid, in nearly every color, though orange and green seem the most common. Others imitate animals, some Arandu may recognize, but certainly some he's never seen. The floor is adorned with colorful overlapping knit rugs, such that there is a proper floor and not just the dirt beneath the tent. The room is rather open, but three tables sit spaced apart, upon which rest some smaller masks, along with various jewelry: mainly beads and wooden amulets, rather than gems or metal. At the back of the room are two glass orbs, hung in a net of rope from the roof of the tent that provide a warm glow to the entire room. Between them is a long table with an ornately patterned orange and blue cloth draped over it, home to half a dozen pouches and a dozen more half-finished woodworking projects. Behind this table sits the shopkeeper, wearing a mask similar to those on the wall, along with a heavy, dark green fur cloak, her red hair tied up behind her. She stares down a mask far above her, seemingly being worn by a dense, red, cloud of fog twice her height. The shopkeeper holds her hand out demandingly as the mask balances a small cylindrical box on top of it. It turns as Arandu enters, then lowers itself, and the box, into the woman's hand, before floating over the back wall, carrying its fog with it. "Thank you, was that so hard?" She follows the mask's gaze, and appears momentarily startled by the unexpected, but not unwelcome, presence. "Oh, a customer! Temperance: Typical control stuff, I like that this isn't a flat denial like some white spells, and is also "balanced." 8/10, the point of cards like this is to be used unfairly, but I'm interested in a world where a strategy exists that makes this a good pick.

Temperance: Typical control stuff, I like that this isn't a flat denial like some white spells, and is also "balanced." 8/10, the point of cards like this is to be used unfairly, but I'm interested in a world where a strategy exists that makes this a good pick. Dispel Conception: 10/10. At first I was gonna complain that "destroy target nonbasic land" could cost 3 but the ability to cast it as Naturalize should make it cost 4. Very nice. Happy with the innocuous answer, both Tokata and Seniton relax. "Oh, if it's agriculture, then of course, I'm sure we could work something out. I can do normal enchantments for crops, but I think I have someone good at that sort of thing. One second, though, let me double check."
Tokata gets up and sneaks between two of the wall segments into a back room, though all Arandu can see of it from the counter is a shelf holding a handful of larger masks, as well as leather pouches, some small enough to be coin pouches, and one large enough to contain a bowling ball. Before long she returns, holding a mask depicting an ox. "Here's Imad!" She knocks on the wood of the mask. "Knock, knock, anybody home?" As she does, the mask begins to slowly emit a thick, green fog, which falls heavily downwards, until it coalesces upward into a thin form. Once acceptably formed, Tokata lets go of the mask, which the cloud accepts and "wears." The volume of this cloud is far lower than that of Seniton, coming up to be barely taller than its summoner, who stands at just 5'7", and far thinner than Seniton's broad amorphousness. "So yeah, Imad and I can totally help lay down some boons to help grow stuff. Plus, if I get a lay of the area there might be spirits there to call upon. Tokata's shop feels abnormally quiet this overcast morning, and she could feel some profound feeling of melancholy hang over her humble abode. The colors of the place overall seem dim, desaturated, almost like a memory... it would be distracting if it wasn't so seamless. It made the greyscale 'girl', flickring with some sickly bright 'static' pattern, stand out even more. She seemed to be holding a mask, but was so... uncertain and blurred that Tokata couldn't make out much of her, even close up. It was almost as if... she were a projection of some sort.

The sort of weird perception effect surrounding the girl suddenly vanished, and Tokata could now perceive clearly her tan skin, pale hair, and brown eyes. Profitable Venture: So close to Prosperous Partnership I'd have to call it a riff. "-why am I- okay, before I go any further, sorry, but: What are you?" "I... I'm... no I'm..." Callie tried to spit something out, but instead fell to the floor bawling, hands pushed against her face and knees bent away from herself in a position which seemed somewhat uncomfortable to a normal human. At once, Tokata felt like Callie was some titanic thing using a girl as a mask and as a scared teen who just needed someone. "I...I don't know! I don't know..."

Mockery of Man: 10/10. So... this card being Void doesn't do much, but I'll admit I do like the copy being void, and it does make sense for this to be void if the copy is. While the fog was not able to discern what Callie was, it was able to feel her dejection, which it was able to communicate to Tokata, who scowled under her mask. You strange, confusing creature. By the Six, if I live to regret this, you'll live to regret coming here. Curse me and my big ol' softie heart.
Tokata waves the fog up and sits down, legs crossed, in front of Callie: close, but at a respectful distance. The fog swells to cover up to Callie and Tokata's shoulders, and shifts in temperature and color, turning white and warm, as though they were sitting under a blanket. Whether the creature could actually feel its warmth through Callie's flesh (or feel warmth at all) was not known to Tokata, though she figured she'd try it anyway, on the off chance it worked. "Well, if you're past is that bad, I bet your present isn't looking great either, is it?" Tokata takes off her mask, offering a clear view of her face, which looked only a few years older than Callie's. "I, uh... probably haven't been the best hostess so far, but I have a spare tent if you want it, and I have more than enough food to just make doubles of all my dinners. I certainly wouldn't mind the company, and I promise not to pry any more. Maybe we can even help figure it out, if you're looking for answers." Generosity of Truth Enchantment Creatures your opponents control enter the battlefield tapped. Whenever one or more creatures enter the battlefield under an opponents control, draw a card. This ability triggers only once each turn. "One can only learn the truth if its witness is willing to take the time to share it."

This ability triggers only once each turn. "One can only learn the truth if its witness is willing to take the time to share it." Generosity of Truth: Normally I would be like "crap this is nuts and bolts" but apparently this effect is 2 mana, at least the creature part? The second part is also unprecedented, but I've been told with good confidence that the effect in total is three mana. With that sorted with... this is a very cool sideboard card against aggro, with the increased cost keeping it from being too oppressive. 9/10. The warmed, blanket-like fog seemed to calm Callie down as the tears began to clear from her face. As Tokata continued to speak, Callie's uneasy face yielded to a smile and eventually tears of joy. "By... by the void thank you! I..." she just stops in awe at this kindness, as if she had somehow known Tokata's inner doubt. "That would be great. I... I'm also wondering what I am, to be honest. I kind of feel like..."
She stops for a second to think. "It's always like I'm not entirely me. Like there's... more of me beyond. I end up places without remembering, weird stuff happens around me, and I kind of... feel things happening elsewhere." "It's like I'm looking past the world sometimes. To somewhere beyond. I...can barely describe it to be honest."
