@pacificwestwoman At the first rumor of a machine having arrived on The Arena, Lettie drops everything, grabs a prepared belt of corrosive vials, and moves to intercept her target, only to be disappointed. "You're not the machine I was looking for. What are you supposed to be?" Though disappointed, she seems no less ready to fight than before.Contract Jumper Creature — Human Assassin At the beginning of your upkeep, if a creature entered the battlefield under an opponent's control last turn, Contract Jumper gets +2/+0 and gains menace until end of turn. 2/3 Contract Jumper: 9/10. I like it a lot, but I think it could be a common. The spider-esque machine turns to face Lettie, visibly shocked for a moment at the corrosives on her belt before composing itself into a defensive stance to counter the alchemist's enthusiasm. "I am Dieule: Project Dieu, test number 13. What are you?"Unfettered Drone Creature - Beast : ~ can block creatures with flying and menace until end of turn. 3/3 "Succumbing to the oil grants a lack of fear. Once compleated, one can be rebuilt any number of times. Death becomes an inconvenience."

Upon realizing it's being observed, Dieule takes an alarmed step back before putting together that it's not in immediate danger. It pauses for a moment, remaining still as Troischa stares at it. She takes a step forward, leaving a thin trail of miasma in the air, and she adopts a tone of mock pondering. "That one also seemed to have a number for a name. Perhaps the two of you are associated? However, the ability effect doesn't seem to play nice with the rules; it would be better off granting reach for dealing with flying, but countering menace is a considerable problem, and might not work as worded since can't beats can, and its debatable whether this effect or menace itself is more specific. 7/10

Then again, there should probably be some way to encourage drafting lots of Phyrexian-mana cards together, so I suspect this is better than nothing. 8/10.Up close, the machine's design is even more striking. Would be fun to play in a sacrifice deck. "I don't see why not." A mechanical arm extends from the body of the machine and grasps the polyhedron, then pulls it back towards itself. A small ejector emerges from the machine, and shoots a black sludge onto the icosahedron. This sludge shifts and expands, engulfing the icosohedron. As it suffers this, its copper threads thrash wildly, and its gears spin faster and faster, before slowing back down to normal. After a moment the oil, now much thinner then when it was shot out, seeps into the cracks of the icosohedron, unnoticable, except that its metal is far darker than it was originally. Dieule extends its arm, and the compleated object it holds, back towards Troischa.

I went looking around for cards that did the same thing and found it weird how they've changed. Fun fact: Prized Unicorn is a common in M20 but was an uncommon in Magic: Origins. Power creep is strange. "Imperfection and Failure!?" The machine lunges at Lettie, only to be grabbed by a leg and pulled back by the grass. Dieule promptly turns and cuts the leg off, spilling oil over both the grass and itself before scuttering away from the animated grass, increasing the distance between Lettie and Dieule. "Yours is the domain of chaos and imperfection. Phyrexia is a paragon of efficacy and perfection. Two planes have already fallen to the oil, and this will be the third! I've already spilled plenty of my own blood here. How do you intend to stop it from spreading?" The oil from the leg is currently flowing into the animated grass, and the oil from the barrage, while still as far as Lettie threw it, has seeped through the soil.Suicide Drone Creature - Spawn : ~ gains deathtouch until end of turn. 2/1

Only then she answers. "By eradicating that taint of phyrexian life, and all life surrounding it. There are surefire methods. Consider, for one, that without the power to divide a spark, the oil separated from you must have been deprived of your resistance to aether... something I have ready access to." She continues the offensive, positioning attacks to drive Dieule away from the area. "I won't bore you with any more details! Instead, let's talk about you! Did Gitaxias envision you with that many legs, or were you trying to improve the perfect design? Was it an effective solution? Was it an efficient use of your blood? Why don't you make some more investments, I'm sure you don't need that much to function! Come, paragon of perfection! Shouldn't you have triumphed already?" Soon, she can hardly speak through her mad cackles.//Lettie does indeed have a (somewhat expensive, and more expansive than stated) plan for dealing with the oil deposits, but she can't undertake it with Dieule as a nearby threat. Rattling Laughter Instant Until end of turn, target creature gains trample, and other creatures get -2/-2 until end of turn. Suicide Drone — It is probably for the best that phi activated abilities grant non-stacking benefits, but this card is rather weak; 1B can easily get a deathtouching piker, with Hand of Silumgar as the example at common. Otherwise, no complaints. 8/10

The machine fires a needle to release the vial's gas before it reaches Dieule, which seems to have taken a moment to collect itself. "I needn't suffer the taunts of a madwoman. My victory will come, even if it is not immediate. Fortunately for me, I can wait. Though from what you've said, I'm not sure that you can." Dieule begins retreating into the forest. Once Lettie is certain that the phyrexian won't be doubling back, she memorizes the locations of her discarded mantle and the abandoned leg, where the oil would have seeped into the soil. Then, she does a quick rounds through her primary shops, siphoning off as much aether as possible from the tunnels using the provided bioaetherics equipment, before returning. She begins by removing the top layer of the sod mat from the entire area, and then transmuting a radius of soil around each of the infection points into worms-that-walk, which she orders to congregate near the removed sod mat, and then she animates the nearby trees to join them as elementals. Then, with all the potentially infected matter transmuted into living forms, she obliterates it all with a burst of concentrated aether released from her equipment, channeled through a black magic spell. All that's left is a husk of metal that was once the phyrexian's leg, which she inspects for any signs of oil, before shuttering it away in a container for future reference. She then checks over the area for any transmutation-resistant life three times, digging out and obliterating anything she finds regardless of appearance, and when she's about to leave, she checks a fourth time.By the need to measure the world in halves, phyrexian and other, this loathsome pest seems to think that any strategy to which it's suited is something I can not exceed in kind. Unfortunately for it, I've always preferred to win wars with gold, rather than battles with steel. I may be low on weapons at this time, but one drawback of a spark is that other planeswalkers can track you. This is only the beginning. Charge Inverter — Given the relative sparsity of the triggers, this faces some development issues outside some specific environments (Theros comes to mind). However, I think it's a good response (with colors in mind), and the ability to skip implied payment in up-front cost (as a free trigger would require a high up-front cost) or explicit payment in the trigger costs for irrelevant triggers (i.e. kill spells targeting your creatures) is rather nice. 8/10

pacifistwestwoman Ichor Freezer: Don't know what to say here except that I love the build-around potential, especially in Limited. 10/10."What… you just need an icebox? That’s it? I've got one right here." Troischa pulls open a rectangular flap on the front of her cloak. Liquid nitrogen steams from the chamber beneath it, which somehow appears to be recessed deep into her torso. With another grimace of discomfort, she extracts the small nitrogen-wreathed box and holds it out to Dieule. Something writhes and clicks beneath its exterior. "Organ's already inside." She grins. "Work your magic."Splicer’s Cask Artifact At the beginning of your end step, you may move a counter from ~ onto a creature you control. Then, if ~ has no counters on it, you may move a counter from a different creature you control onto it.

Can't say which I like more. ...That was easy. A little too easy.
The machine skitters slowly up to Troischa, stopping a couple feet away from the container. It looks in the container, glances up at Troischa, then looks back to the container. A small mechanical arm with an attached needle emerges from Dieule's body, moves over to the container, and injects oil into the organ, before retracting. The writhing and clicking speed up, as the organ initially fights the ichor, then slow back down as the organ takes on a black taint. "It should be ready to go. And if you ever need more, feel free to find me." A hint of eagerness in its tone is subdued, but noticeable. pacifistwestwoman Harbinger of Tar: The black makes sense, but nothing about this really feels green. I'm also not sure I like how it triggers itself. Seems potentially quite frustrating in Limited with enough ramp and/or lifegain effects. 7/10."Alright, let's see if this works." She tugs on her lower right leg and it comes off at the ankle, revealing wires, gears, and other machinery whirring inside. Balancing awkwardly on one foot, she dumps the box onto the severed limb, which reaches out with tendrils of rubber, copper, and plastic to devour it greedily. Then she waits, one eye on the limb and the other on Dieule. "Just to make sure there are no complications, you understand. Not exactly working in a sterilized environment here."She pauses, weighing her options. "Oh, and I was also thinking that maybe we could get lunch after this. What do Phyrexians eat, anyway?"Surprise Inspection Instant Counter up to one target spell or ability that targets a permanent. Each player who lost life this turn discards a card, then each other player draws a card. "Let's see if everything's up to code."

I'm also not a fan of the fact that it could cause the caster to discard a card. Get lunch? With a Phyrexian? And that leg... What is this woman?
Dieule sits confused for a moment before responding. "Not that I won't join you, but, being a machine, I do not eat, in the same way that a sword does not eat. I even lack a proper mouth. My energy comes from the oil, which replenishes on its own. But with that compartment from your chest, and detachable leg, you clearly aren't all flesh. What do you eat?"Deepsea Processor Creature - Spawn Wizard Whenever you discard a card, investigate. 3/3
