Khon Vasq, Compleated Knight "For too long have I defined myself with the purpose others have assigned me. Now, I shall choose my own path." (72767a)
A Phyrexian, created and compleated more than 400 years prior to the Mending, Khon Vasq was intended to be one of Phyrexia's greatest weapons against Dominaria. Given innate skill with all forms of weapons, along with the ability to infuse them with the oil running through his body, he was intended to be able to match the plane's greatest warriors, and serve in the vanguard of the invasion forces. With the ability to conjure weapons and grant them a small amount of sentience and autonomy, he could face foes in far greater numbers and overcome them. He was trained and taught to uphold Phyrexian ideals and serve the will of the Father of Machines, and unlike lesser Phyrexian warriors, he was created to be completely independent, so that he could serve as a commander of Phyrexia's forces.
However, Khon saw a conflict between the Ineffable's desire to destroy the plane that scorned him, and the Phyrexian ideal that all things can be made use of in service to Phyrexia. Destroying Dominaria would be a waste of valuable resources, both in the lives of Phyrexians thrown away in the battles, and in the resources that could be claimed to further Phyrexia's goals. The machine priests he spoke to regarding this conflict, however, branded him as a heretic for defying the will of Yawgmoth. Heretic though he may be, however, he represented a significant resource - so instead of seeking to destroy him, they sought to break him. And while his body was able to be broken, his will was not - instead, his soul rebelled, and his spark ignited, taking him away from Phyrexia... and away from his purpose.
Despite his opposition to the reasoning for the planned invasion of Dominaria, Khon believed that his only purpose for existing was to fight - but he also believed that any battle fought needed a worthy purpose, something to be gained from it. And so, after getting a handle on his new gifts, he traveled the multiverse as a mercenary, lending his blades to any cause that was something more than simple destruction. When a tyrant was recruiting soldiers for conquest of new lands, Khon was there. When a rebellion sparked to free the people from a corrupt rule, Khon would join. When a bandit king sought to claim riches, Khon offered his service. So long as he could see something being gained by the battle, and so long as it did not oppose his own simple code of honor, Khon Vasq would fight - if only to feel that he was fulfilling his purpose.
And then, Khon came to the Arena. He met the merchant, Rixos Ker, and learned of New Phyrexia - and then learned from the detective named Rolt that the plane was once a world known as Mirrodin. Along with the cartographer, Sevid Fese, and the chronicler, Rehysia, he traveled to New Phyrexia and saw just what was done to the world, and what the Phyrexian concept of perfection truly means. Unable to abide the idea of simply destroying that which is against the view of perfection that the New Phyrexian leadership hold, Khon decided that he could not align himself with Phyrexia anymore - whether New or Old. He spoke of his past actions with them, and learned that the oil he carries within is not simply toxic to organic life, but can have mutative effects under the proper circumstances. And while Sevid and Rehysia seemed to have a particular focus on Skalor, one of the few planes he used the oil on before, he also intends to check the other planes where he has drawn upon it and ensure that its corruptive effects have not spread.
However, it would be three particular individuals who he would meet on the Arena that would truly change his life.
The first was a young girl, who spoke of choosing to help people even if it would cost her not only her life, but her purpose. Karina Oblay, who called herself an explorer, and who showed the will to push past fear for herself if it meant doing what was right. He would meet her multiple times on the Arena, and through her words, he learned that one can make choices without being driven solely by their purpose.
The second was a woman whose very existence brought death, yet who sought to instead restore life. Hanska Myemii, bound to a deity of poison, was drawn to him due to sensing the toxicity of the oil he contains, and spoke to him about the path she chose. Though he would only ever see her once, and only in a passing conversation, Khon would learn from her that one can choose their own purpose - it does not need to be decided for them.
The third was an android who struggled to choose between her past and future. Originally met as the sentient gateway, AKH VIA, Khon offered his services in helping them to find a new world to rebuild their home on. This would lead to him receiving a cryptic message, causing him to begin seeking out the sentience known as VIA - and upon finding her, being pulled into a struggle between VIA's self, and a fragmented echo of a past incarnation calling itself VI that sought to take over VIA's body. While VI spoke of a grave threat against the multiverse, Khon saw unfortunate parallels with himself - learning that VIA was made to suffer solely to fulfill the purpose that VI intended for her resonated with him. He realized that he was allowing himself to be defined by his past, seeking battles solely because it was what he had always been told he was created for. He, along with several others, stood and challenged VI, fighting to give VIA the opportunity to live her own life without being shackled by her past - and Khon, in turn, shed some of the burdens of his own past in doing so.
Still without purpose, but understanding that he can choose that for himself, Khon is - for the time being - remaining on the Arena. In his short time here, he has come to understand himself better than he has in the past half a millenium, and he doesn't have anywhere else that he needs to be at present, so perhaps being here will help him decide what he intends to do with himself moving forward...

I waltzed out into the middle of the arena, a cigarette lit in my mouth, and look over to see a man, seemingly metal, but also something more. I wonder just who this new fella is.Approaching him, I nod in greeting. "Looks like this plane's got itself a newcomer. Name's Rolt, detective Rolt." I say, reaching out for a handshake. Getting a closer look at him opened up a few more possibilities in just where he could be from - though I figured most of Phyrexia was quiet at this point, so he couldn't be from there, could he?Nagging Thought Sorcery Detain target nonland permanent. Draw two cards. "It couldn't be... could it?" This isn't a bad card, though it is a direct upgrade over Divination. Being able to provide removal (albeit temporary) coupled with that effect probably warrants a bit more cost - I'd put this at , myself, or make it draw 1 card. The name, to me, also seems a bit off - it seems more like it should either be targeting one of your own permanents (as if you're fiddling with it trying to remember something), or milling an opponent along with the detain (representing that they are having trouble remembering something). A solid 8/10, though.
"I have been named as Khon Vasq," I reply, returning his nod. As he extends his hand to shake, I reach out and return it. "I have recently arrived here, and I admit that I am somewhat unfamiliar with this plane." I take a moment to inspect him, looking for any indications of weaponry, or any sign of threat from the man. Scanner Sentry
Artifact Creature - Construct When Scanner Sentry enters the battlefield, look at the top three cards of target player's library and put them back in any order. 2/1A young girl with a spear spots the the knight and initially walks up for a closer look. As she sees the details of the metal man, she yells and takes a step back, then scrambles away. Run Away! Instant Choose one - • Return target nonland permanent to its owner's hand. • Up to two target creatures can't block this turn. This is an interesting card - it gives you either a red effect or a blue one. Both serve similar purposes, allowing you to get a single attacker through, though there's more utility available with either side (either by removing a non-creature permanent temporarily or by possibly allowing more attackers through). I feel like it would be a bit more symmetrical with the options if it only bounced a permanent you don't control, though - and with the versatility, I think this should either be at or cost more. Still a solid 9/10.I watch as the human child approaches, noting the weapon she carries and readying myself to respond if she proves to be a threat. As she cries out, I frown, watching her for a moment. As she turns to flee, I say, "At this time, I have no reason to attack you. I am... curious, however. You carry a weapon - are you not a warrior?" I shift, drawing my cloak around me to cover the weapons I carry, attempting to demonstrate that I have no desire to harm her at this time. Concealing Cloak

She should be legendary, and probably should cost a bit more (probably 5 CMC, given the P/T). Also, this ability is definitely rather than - it's a strictly better Guardian Project, after all. A decent idea for a card, but needs a significant amount of refinement. 6/10.

pfft, she certainly should be legendary, dunno where that went. and totally missed Guardian Project, have tried out this ability as a few times before and thought it was more fitting here Phyrexian Glaive-Knight - so it's a war of attrition is it :b toughness on this thing is pretty worrying since it needs a 4 power to take it down. 7/10"I am a warrior - I was tasked from birth to fight, and am always prepared to do so should I need to," I reply, raising my own spear-like blade. Up to one target creature gets -1/-1 and can't block this turn. Threatening Presence is missing a rarity, though it feels uncommon just due to the complexity - I'll assume that's where you intended it. That being said, while I like the symmetry of the effects, it should be - doesn't get "target creature can't block" effects without involved. The closest it gets are enchantments that stop the enchanted creature from blocking. 7/10

Have a Drink feels more than to me, since doesn't normally get things that just tap without other effects (doesn't untap, -X/-0, etc). This also feels... a bit underpowered, TBH, as it's effectively for tap + draw. Makes sense otherwise, though. 8/10Loose Ends is very nice - it's similar to Verity Circle, but swaps a weaker draw effect for a stronger tap effect. That said, I find myself thinking it's somehow both underpowered and overpowered at the same time, given the cost, which tells me it's probably perfect where it is. 10/10I shake my head, declining the detective's offer. "No, thank you - it would be best for me not to share your provisions." I pause for a moment, considering his words. "Strangely, while I have fought to help others pursue many goals, I have not yet found myself in a battle with truth as the goal. I have heard it said that those with power can simply create their own truth, so what value is there in pursuing something which can so easily be overwritten?"Tome of False Truths Artifact Whenever a creature you control becomes tapped by a spell or ability an opponent controls, you may pay . Khon Vasq spends 100 Valor, and increases his CMC limit to ! "I would be interested to learn where you were born and raised, and what lead you to end up here. You seem very similar to some other beings I have interacted with, although they had much more hostile intentions, and I would like to avoid making assumptions without incomplete knowledge before questioning further."Yep, this super blocks my thing. You may reveal a card from it and put it on the bottom of its owner's library. If you do, that player draws a card. Draw a card. Interested by Details is certainly interesting. I don't think it feels rare, though - and I really don't like the lack of a 'nonland' clause in here. Even though the pseudo-discard effect replaces itself, it still doesn't sit well with me that you could knock a land out of someone's hand on turn 2. 8/10
"I come from a plane known as Phyrexia, though it has been quite some time since I left there. However, the purpose I was given was that of a warrior - so while I no longer fight in service to the Father of Machines, I still travel seeking places where I can fulfill that purpose, and fight for purposes of value."
Phyrexian Archive Artifact Whenever a spell or ability an opponent controls would cause a card in your hand to be put anywhere, you may pay . At the beginning of your end step, discard your hand. [4] Parrying Blades - missing an equip cost and bit specific hoser that still works on this card oops. 7/10 Karina, Timid Explorer is definitely unique. She gains the abilities of any other planeswalker you activate (though can only use one per turn barring things like The Chain Veil, in addition to getting activated abilities of creatures, artifacts and enchantments. That said, she definitely offers some ridiculous combo potential if slotted in the right deck. The seems to do a bit too much, though - I'd remove the untap clause there. I like it, aside from that. 10/10
"But to what end?" I reply, calmly. "Those who would take power in such a case can simply choose to alter the truth as they see fit, as well, should they then find it problematic. Phyrexia. I recognize that name. The beings that were besieging Intera were under the same flag, the same title, under a person carrying the oil of New Phyrexia. I start to reach for Mindmelder, but pause. I might be able to Sever it. Far more likely, I will cast Sever and then die. This is a problem for the Seventh Circle to solve. My job is to protect Hannah.
"Thank you for your cooperation." I glance at my transceiver and poke it, accomplishing nothing but making sure that is not known. "My daughter needs me, so I am afraid I must leave. Good luck in your endeavors."
I think this is supposed to cost 1, since it's an upside/downside of an effect that normally has to be on a land, in the form of Nephalia Whatsit from Shadows over Innistrad. 7.5/10

[0]'ing Karina Oblay to give her Oath indes and hexproof, ready to fire it twice should the worst come to worst c: Sparkcharged Blade - interesting. Think the mana equip could be cheaper, but the loyalty equip is noice. 9/10 Karina's Oath is excellent - the name is distinct enough from the Gatewatch oaths that I'm not expecting a similar structure there, and I like how it gives you benefits from any planeswalker, with extra benefits for Karina specifically. However, it only feels vaguely to me - and honestly, I think I'd like this better as mono- , swapping the rummage for a loot effect, and keeping the activated ability the same. Still very good and a flavor win. 9/10I watch the child explorer's expression, and find myself disappointed as I see tears welling in her eyes. To fear the inevitable conclusion to one's purpose is pointless, and leads only to failure. As I begin to turn away from her, however, I see her expression shift, her eyes hardening with resolve as she plants the spear and speaks. Feels like it should have a more defined creature type - Human Citizen or Human Advisor, perhaps. But that's a minor gripe, still a solid 10/10.

The colors fit, and being legendary means that you can't get multiples without jumping through some hoops. But at the same time, the sheer volume of card draw it gives means that if you can't stop it from being removed, you'll likely have a backup copy in hand. It honestly seems undercosted - maybe it would be fine if you removed the free draw on upkeep. As it is, 8/10.I consider the detective's words for a moment, before replying, "I see. blueseclipse I nod slowly at his words. "In a sense, yes. However, I have no interest in real power. I simply have some semblance of power, as I'm like a bloodhound searching for a fox in the middle of a rainy hunt - I hunt for the truth. Call it curiosity." Oops double post but it's boards so it's justified! blueseclipse I'm smoking a cigarette in my office. I take a drag off of it, waiting for Vivien to come back from whatever it is she does when she's back on Ravnica. Suddenly, visions again dance in my vision. Suddenly, a story fills my head - visions, New Phyrexia, praetors, Karn, oil, all of it connects suddenly and quickly, causing me to grasp my head in pain. Shuffle your library. "Hopefully this works..!" This is definitely an interesting concept for a land... I can see it being used with a artifacts archetype. At the same time, the cost is high enough on the tutor that getting something like an Eldrazi Titan would be prohibitively expensive. The issue, though, is that a dual land like this would be part of a cycle, and I can't see what kind of cycle it would be in (unless it's in another Eldrazi set, and each dual gets the same tutor ability). It would probably be better as a standalone, either producing or one mana of any color. 9/10I appear in a flash of aether just outside the detective's office, opening the door and stepping in without a second thought. Noting Rolt's haggard condition, I frown slightly. "Detective, I received the signal that the beacon I provided was broken. blueseclipse As soon as my door is opened, the words and visions vanish. Still looking worse for wear - much worse than when he first saw me - I look to him. "Y-yeah. However, I really don't see much reason for anyone to use... honestly, any of the options other than the effect, or maybe the effect if there's an Alms Collector (or similar) in play, so it really seems like the and options are just unnecessary. 9/10"Initially," I reply, "I believed that they would still be serving the Father of Machines. At this time, however, I am uncertain - there is too much that I do not know." I consider his question for a moment, before I answer, "When I first spoke with you about this, it was intended to help me determine whether I could return to directly serving Phyrexia's will. However, things I have learned since our initial discussion, both from you and from others... my objectives have changed. At this time, I have determined that there is a disconnect between the purpose that I was told of for Phyrexia's actions, and the actual reasoning behind those actions. I am trying to reconcile this, and determine what my own purpose should be moving forward - and I wish to know more about New Phyrexia, so that should my purpose be opposed to theirs, I am prepared for whatever comes."
