I look at Rixos for a moment, before offering several corrections to his stance first. Once I determine that his posture is sufficient, I then begin demonstrating some of the basic maneuvers - thrusting strikes, parries and counterstrikes. After some time practicing, I say, "I believe we should see what you have learned thus far." I face him, blade raised in the same combat stance I demonstrated to him. "When you are ready, attack."
Steel Bladeguard Artifact Creature - Construct Steel Bladeguard has first strike as long as it's blocking. 2/5 "I think I've got it." Rixos attacks agressively Khon, trying to thrust his defense. After interchanging some blows, Rixos unadvertely leaves his defense open, in a risky attack, sword all set.Aggresive Duelist Creature - Human Warrior ~ has first strike as long as it's attacking. 5/2 (Side note: MaRo said black is tertiery in first strike.) Steel Bladeguard: There's a reason first strike only while attacking is used lately, defensive first strike can discourage combat a lot, but I don't think that as a very bad thing here, because the creature is already defensive. It's for sure Limited playable, and even more being colorless. 8/10

Plus. this effect is niche enough it rarely catches anything. 3/10 Even as a rare, this does too much for its cost - while I could expect the self-mill plus land, or the self-mill plus return creature to hand, on an instant at rare, giving you a free land ETB (and it coming in tapped is largely irrelevant, as this will mainly get used at the end of the opponent's turn) and a creature back to hand, with a self-mill that all but guarantees targets for both effects, is a bit OP. This would be better priced at . I'm also not seeing connection between flavor and effect here - a different name would be more appropriate, probably. 8/10

While this is experimental terrain, I like it - this is the kind of thing that I feel represents an acceptable break in the color pie. Red is known for artifact hate, so letting it preemptively hate them makes perfect sense. I don't know if I'd place it at uncommon, though - common seems to fit it better. 9/10I nod, looking at the man appraisingly as I answer him. "One of her robots gave me this thing to call her if I get in danger," I saw, showing the small distress stamp. "I was trying to not use it since I don't think it's an emergency though?"Distress Call Instant Reveal the top six cards of your library. You may put a permanent card with converted mana cost 4 or less from among them onto the battlefield. It gains haste until end of turn if it's a creature. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order. Tactician's Eye - hm, narrow but nice payoff when it does happen. 9/10 While I like the concept behind this, it doesn't really seem to be on color. doesn't get many effects that put things directly from library to play at all (and those that do are generally random polymorph effects, such as Chaos Warp). , on the other hand, gets some limited ability to put things directly into play from the library, but it's generally with artifacts, enchantments, or low power/CMC creatures. Oddly, it's not something I can really place as being appropriate for any color - and is the only color combination I can think of where it would really be fitting. 6/10I pause in thought for a moment, before replying, "I am... uncertain. I received a message from the submind VIA, which indicated that there may be some concerns. The message was unclear, however, it suggested that the VIA submind has been separated from the construct's primary sentience. There is also a mention of something that may have had anomalous effects on local spacetime, though I was not able to receive sufficient information to determine exactly what occurred. That beacon will contact AKH, the primary sentience, correct?"Signal Interceptor Artifact Whenever a spell or ability would cause an opponent to put a card from their library into their hand or onto the battlefield, instead both you and that player may draw a card. I like the card's concept. I do think, though, that it should only unattach permanents from creatures - and it probably should be replacing the auras going to graveyard with putting them into their owner's hand, since otherwise, they don't actually go into the graveyard until the spell resolves (the spell unattaches them, finishes resolving, then the auras die as a state-based effect due to not being attached to a permanent, I bellieve). 7/10I return the bow as I stow away both blades used for the practice. "Coin will suffice for payment - at present, I am not in need of further weapons. Should that change, you will be the first to know." Magnetic Monstrosity Artifact Creature - Construct Whenever an Equipment becomes unattached from a creature other than Magnetic Monstrosity, attach that Equipment to Magnetic Monstrosity. Political cards are hard for me to judge, but I like that it prevents a bidding war on who controls it. Not that you get much. 7/10 Very, very interesting concept. I honestly think it would be better off without the lifegain as a mono- card, though. And I do like the fact that once you take control of the tokens, opponents can take control of them back if they want to invest the mana. My other concern is that the ability to gain control of the tokens is instant speed - it probably should be sorcery speed, if only to avoid shenanigans. 8/10, as it really is an interesting concept."You seek to secure your people, and defend the territory and populace you already hold sway over, then," I say, summarizing her explanation, "and gain further influence in doing so. Very well," I nod to Rudara, and continue, "I suppose then it is a matter of details - how long you expect to require my services for, what specific objectives you wish for me to achieve, what limitations I will be working under in regards to achieving those objectives. The matter of compensation can be discussed once those details are set, but so long as there is nothing of concern within those details, I believe I can offer my assistance to your efforts."Mercenary Contract Artifact , , Sacrifice Mercenary Contract: Reveal the cards in your library. Target opponent chooses from among them exactly two creature and/or planeswalker cards. Choose one of the chosen cards and put it onto the battlefield under your control, then that opponent puts the other onto the battlefield under their control. Then shuffle your library. Equipped creature gets +2/+1 and has first strike. Equip blueseclipse It appears the detective would like to talk to you, Khon, as you feel the beacon's call from planes away. Overload When all roads hurt just as bad, which one do you take?
(Wording is hard) Looking at this, it almost feels like it should be a sorcery - instant speed discard is really not a thing used anymore. However, given the cost and the modal effect, I can understand it, as the opponent doesn't have to discard, and it's slow enough that they normally won't be forced to sac a land. The overload is nice also, letting you hit every player at the table instead of just one - doesn't do any good in 1v1 play, but extends the option more for multiplayer. I could see this as part of a cycle in a Commander set, or maybe a Battlebond sequel. 9/10I frown as I feel the beacon's call from two locations. That should not be occurring... I will need to look into this. Fortunately, it will be simple enough to send an autonomous unit to see what is causing the signal on this plane, while I check the extraplanar location.
Focusing mana, I conjure a construct in the image of the creature Sevid and Rehysia showed me earlier - A Myr, I believe she called it? - and imprint upon it instructions to go to the location I am sensing the signal from on this plane, and dispel itself should it sight the detective there. Weaving the magic of one of my beacons into it, so that I will know if the construct dispels, I then planeswalk to find the first signal I sensed, away from the Arena. Myr Watcher Artifact Creature - Myr When Myr Watcher enters the battlefield, look at target opponent's hand, then name a creature card. With that, Rudara turned around, disappearing into the shadows once more, leaving the mercenary with 'L.' {Response Card - Devils in the Details} Mercenary Contract: Now this is a Dubious Challenge I can get behind. The layers of decision make this a bit complex on what the right choice is, but otherwise I like how it's not obviously in your opponent's favor. Plus, it's a great group-hug / political card. 10/10 Yeah, this is a legit Scheme, and I like the flavor text. 10/10I take the document, noting that it holds an impressive amount of detail. Nodding at Rudara as she departs, I begin scanning the agreement carefully to determine if there is any kind of subterfuge, doublespeak, or similar. Lawmage's Lens Artifact - Equipment Equipped creature has hexproof, " : Look at the top card of target player's library. Then I struck - an attack at the head, leaving my left side blatantly open.Dazzling Dagger - Artifact - Equipment Equipped creature gets +1/+0. Whenever equipped creature attacks, target creature cannot block this turn. Equip Knight's Glaive could have its equip cost dropped to , but I like it otherwise. 9/10 Not a bad card at all - I like the ability, and it looks well-balanced to me. 10/10I bring my glaive around to swing at his side as he strikes, at the same time bringing up one of my free arms to parry his strike using the blade protuding from its side. "An artist? I see... may I ask what form of art you practice?"Parrying Edge Artifact - Equipment Equipped creature gets +1/+2. : Target creature attacking you becomes blocked by equipped creature. Activate this ability only during the declare blockers step and only if equipped creature is not blocking another creature. But being fodder that gets to see my hand is nice, actually, now that I think about it a bit more. 7/10. The construct flees to the one on this plane, and finds nothing from the signal's location. How odd.---Khon planeswalks away, travelling through the eternities. Rolt's voice is heard for a fleeting moment--"Come on, come on, you sonuva--"before he realizes he's back on the arena. However, it appears he moved to where his myr was - the detective's office.Eternity Saboteur Creature - Spirit Horror Flying Whenever an opponent casts an artifact spell, you may have ~ deal 1 damage to target creature or planeswalker. 2/1 If he would planeswalk again, he would find himself right back here.
A figure appears behind the desk - Rolt himself. "Greetings, Khon." This is nice, but doesn't really feel particularly at all - really feels like it should be given the typing. 8/10I frown as the Arena fades back into view around me. This is odd - I certainly sensed the beacon from off of the Arena. And I know that I heard the detective's voice. I look at the figure behind the desk, by all accounts appearing to be the detective. Hmm... it's possible that the other beacon was a trap. But were I intending to trap someone, I would not then engineer for them to be unable to enter the trap... "Greetings, Detective Rolt," I reply to the figure, opting not to voice my thoughts yet, and grateful that my face, metallic and inhuman, does not convey emotion. "You activated the beacon I provided you... did you have additional information for me?"Soulless Mask Artifact - Equipment Equipped creature gets +2/+2, has hexproof and loses all other abilities. , Unattach Stoic Mask: Target creature loses all abilities until end of turn. Equip "I don't know what it does," I admit. "Via's robot said there was a mean spirit trying to get me, and if I saw it again to break this thing, and she'd know I did." I think about that for another minute. "I guess she didn't actually say she'd show up, but I hope she would."
"Um, the Arena does have a weird time-y thing going on. Maybe Via figured that out? She could be in the future or the past and like super lost!"Lost in Time Instant Target spell or permanent phases out. (While it's phased out, it's treated as though it doesn't exist. It phases in before its controller untaps during their next untap step. Targets don't change as a spell phases in or out.)"I'm gonna punch you into next week!"
(she was dodgy about this with VIA because at the time I figured 7CI would tell her not to mention this to anyone, but then they turned out to be pretty cool with it >.>) no technically spells can't phase but it's hilarious and I'm CR patching itSignal Interceptor - hm, suspect the 'onto the battlefield' one might cause some issues (consider 'put it onto the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it') but pretty sure this causes you to draw on your opponent's draws which is dicier for the cost. 7/10 I have to admit, I really do like the concept here. However, there are two major issue I have with this. First, that it can be a counterspell in (due to the fact that targets don't change when a spell is phased out, it can cause the spell to fizzle upon phasing in (due to its target possibly no longer existing). Second, and more importantly, is the fact that if the spell is put back on the stack immediately upon phasing in, it becomes uncounterable due to no player receiving priority during the untap step. And it would be pretty complicated to patch the CR to account for this while preventing other shenanigans from occurring during the untap step. 6/10I consider for a moment, setting aside what was mentioned about a spirit seeking out the girl until after the current issue is resolved. "If it is akin to the beacons that I provide my clients and contacts, then I would presume that AKH would either come themselves or dispatch aid to the beacon's location when it is broken. If there is some form of temporal anomaly in play, however, then that could be difficult. Can you tell me more about the unusual time this plane seems to exhibit? I have not noticed it myself."Cheap Copy Artifact If you would sacrifice an artifact as part of the cost for a spell or ability, you may sacrifice Cheap Copy instead. That's not black mana. Smells different. Somewhat familiar. Poison? An unknwon one, though; not familiar enough to Hyle to know its nature. She approaches cautiously, then notices the metallic knight. blueseclipse'L' watches the mercenary as he reads over the document, definitely more nervous than she had appeared before Rudara had arrived. The document, despite it's length, was absent of contradiction, subtle clauses, or other wording that would work against Khon Vasq. Rudara, for the most part, seemed honest. "Well, I'll let you know where to find me," 'L' spoke nervously, giving Khon one last look before she herself, faded into the shadows. Khon was left alone, to contemplate this arrangement. Lawmage's Lens: Hexproof, sure. The first ability, probably fine on an equipment, and only abusive in niche combos. The last one? Blegh. Totally ignores how those cards work, which is wordy, but a better solution could have been found. You abandon schemes. You planeswalk away from planes. And some conspiracies are brutal to a deck if turned face-down, permanently. Too much variety in effect to really make it worth it. 3/10
