korakhosYes it was meant to be a legend, I must've forgot to change it gosh darn it
Aiden looked at the pale monster. He shook his head. "I will not need your services." he watches as he turns and starts to walk away. Good riddance, as the ghost of Melody wraps around his shoulders, as he feels resolve in his
"Don't think of yourself as the hero who chose to do the right thing at the last minute. You're just the fool who chose to leave behind everything he could possibly want."
He stayed silent. The spirit caressed his face and kissed his cheek again. "It does not feel like the right thing my Adey. But it is. It would ruin the natural law." she whispers soothingly into his ear. Aiden remains silent as he turns away and walks towards the small shack he built. Tears roll down his face, but he slams the door in a rage as Melody continues to whisper into his ear.
Archangel of Revenge Creature - Angel Soldier Flying When ~ dies, you may exile target nonland, nonplaneswalker permanent. "The righteous must defend their honor, and I will help them." - Archangel Tilia 4/4
Guilt: Languish for only more that's static. Sure it can be removed by casting spells but creature based decks just die when this hits the table. In a commander supplemental I could see it, but still really good. 6/10.
The soldier hears the knock on the door, and leaves his spear against a far wall. He opens it, and looks to see the sad-looking Karina. His helmet off, but his hair actually decent looking for once, his face immediately expresses concern and worry.
"I'm...I'm sorry about what I did yesterday," she whimpers to the soldier. "I just wanted to help, but... I almost got us hurt, didn't I?"
"Karina, no..." he said, kneeling down on one knee to see to her eye level again.
"I wanted to help, but I almost hurt people instead," she cried. "I'm not any better than her, am I?"
Aiden looks at her for a moment. "Karina." he said in as soft a voice as his normal deep one could muster. "You didn't do anything wrong. Not a single thing, okay?" he says. He smiles at her. "I was an orphan for a long time - my parents died when I was young. I had a rough time. For a while, I stole. I'm not proud of it. Those were dark days." he said. "Then, I met my wife and had a beautiful daughter named Rose. And for a long time, I was happy. But then... well, I showed up here. I still don't know how, but I did. And for a long time, I was panicked, lost, and confused." he stops and wipes a couple tears from his eyes. "I guess what I'm saying is... when I found you, I felt like I had purpose again. Something to fight for, besides just getting home. You're now like a daughter to me." he said, putting both hands on her shoulders. "So don't even worry about it, okay? You did everything you could and more. And I'm proud of you for it."
Auraweaver Creature - Human Wizard When ~ attacks, you may return target enchantment with a converted mana cost of 3 or less from your or your teammates' graveyard to the battlefield under your control. "What a shame for all that magic to go to waste - here, let me help." 2/3
Broken Facade: I like it, short, sweet and to the point. 10/10.

The machines continue their scans, leaking more telepathic fragments in languages (are they even languages?) Aiden doesn't recognize. Then, just as soon as they came, they're back off into the distance with a sudden burst of speed, jittering through the sky like drunk herons.
On Paranoid Envoy: Is this too much upside for a Wind Drake? I think it probably is at common - but this is a fine design otherwise, good tech that foils my card on multiple axes. I want to give this a 7.5, but I know you don't like fractional scoring so 8/10.

Before I continue, a side note: Don't feel obligated to round up I appreciate when y'all do, but honestly don't feel like you should. If anything, round down, give me that .5 and I'll do it myself. There, now I won't say anything else, but just so everyone knows. Now, the flavors:
"You mean it?" she asked through a sniff. "I just... I don't... I..." She buried herself into his arms and starting crying again.
Aiden nodded, and then hugged her tightly to him. He'd sit there for as long as she needed to cry, gently stroking her hair in an attempt to comfort her. As a dad, he was good.
"If you can get better, then I can too." she said finally. "Thank you for, for everything." she smiled weakly.
Aiden nodded, and smiled. "Not just can - I know you will. You were meant for grand things, kid. I can tell. And don't worry about it, Karina. It's my pleasure." he said, wiping some tears from his eyes. He hugged her again, and thought to himself. He had no reason to go home anymore - his family was dead, and his King had probably replaced him by now. He had no ruler, no one to protect for the sake of protecting anymore. His life was... meaningless.
Unless... he found meaning. He found something worth protecting. And he already had found such a thing.
Royalty was snobby anyway.
Aiden has spent 100 valor and unlocked Monarch's Crown!
"We are never just men." She switches to a defensive pose one leg in front of another, her back talon digging into the ground. Raised slightly above the ground he front talon remains posed to strike. "You going to let a lady control how this goes?"
Second move Instant Each opponent sacrifices an attacking creature
Stadfast Trainee is a decent card based on fog bank should probably be an 0/2 considering it can deal damage back 8/10
The soldier shrugs. "No big deal. You seem like you know how to fight - I'm not about to underestimate you because you're a woman." he said. He'd fought with many brave women before. He held his spear defensively, unmoving. "Well, this is kind of awkward, huh?" he says, smiling goofily.
Patient Fighter Creature - Human Soldier Defender At the beginning of each end step, if no creatures attacked this turn, you gain 2 life. "I've got all day, pal." 2/4
Second Move: Seems fine, though Celestial Flare suggests it should probably cost or be . 8/10.

Aiden's eyes shot open. He looked outside from his sturdy bed. "Still night." he muttered, sitting up. He put his head in his hands. He had just refused the offer from the demon to resurrect his family. After he had left, and he entered his shack, he had tossed the spear in anger against a wall, it clattering to the ground. He looked to it now - exactly where he left it. He wasn't sure what he was doing anymore. His whole family was dead, his home infinitely far away. He had Karina to look forward to whenever he could, but... she wasn't his daughter. He couldn't act like it either. Even Ms. Oblay, this supposed monster, had seemed to be a more parental figure than him to her.
He looked back outside. What was he doing? Everyone here was some sort of planeswalker or magical being or demon or... something. Someone. Anybody. He grimaced as he realized who he was in this place. Absolutely no one. He had no magic powers, no planeswalker abilities. He looked at his spear. No, he was a man with a spear. And a weak one at that. He had almost sold Aylin out to that... thing. His self-loathing welled up inside him, and tears formed in his eyes. "No..." he said aloud. "No..." he muttered again, "NO!" he shouted at the top of his pathetic lungs.
He looked to his spear. Usually when he had these thoughts, the light shone from it and comforted him, quelled his inner voice. But it remained still.
What was he doing here?
Aiden has spent 100 valor to unlock the aid sets Shadows Over Innistrad and Eldritch Moon.
"A man who can't take charge? Very awkward." Uil smirks at Aiden and keeps her pose up, not swinging.
Verbal Insult Sorcery Choose a card type. Target opponent discards a card. If they discard a card of the chosen type, that player discards another card. (Goal is to make them discard a card besides one of that type.)
Very defensive the body is a good size, not sure what kind of set this could go into though so 7/10
Soul Keeper Creature - Spirit Flying Whenever you discard a card, you gain 2 life. 1/1
Verbal Insult: Most people would probably pick land early game, and then be situational later game. It can probably be a common, looking at cards like Despise and Inquisition of Kozilek, maybe do a hand reveal too? 8/10.
A suit of armour formed of... is that ice? approaches. On closer inspection, it seems to move due to an elemental within. The creature gives a look to Aiden, bows it's head and seems to form a longsword out of its arm as it approaches to duel.
Ice-Formed Guardian Creature - Elemental Knight Whenever ~ blocks or becomes blocked by a creature, tap that creature. It doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step. 2/4
The soldier watched the walking ice approach him and shook his head. “Not the weirdest thing, I guess...” he muttered, looking at it raise it’s sword in a dueling request. “Well, more mannered than most things around here... fine.” he said, lifting his spear into a reciprocating duel stance.
Gracewind Duelist Creature - Human Soldier : Untap ~. You gain 2 life. Swift as the wind, graceful as a swan. 2/3
Ice-Formed Guardian: Seems fine. 9/10. It’s a fine blue creature, but I could see it at common but it does depend on the set.
Last Edit: Mar 1, 2019 17:40:11 GMT by gurfafflekins: better critique
The thing starts moving towards you, once more, seeming to move faster than moments ago, going in for a swing.
Nimble Slash Instant Target creature you control gains first strike until end of turn. If that creature is blocked, it gets +2/+0 until end of turn. Gracewind Duelist - Seems fine, only thing is new players may think you can't activate the ability if it isn't tapped already. I still like it though. 8/10
"Hey, wait, where are you going?" Karina called to the leaving solider. "I already had my reading class today, we can go on an adventure now!" She ran to try to catch him. "Maybe we can go find Rowboat and make him apologize." She wasn't catching up. "Or... or see Hanksa or..."
Karina, the Student Legendary Creature - Human Creatures blocking and blocked by Karina, the Student get -2/-1. "Wait, why is there a child here?" -Lance Ryba 0/2
The soldier stopped in his tracks as she slowed down. He... could he really do this to her? He was using her to try and replace what he had, and he knew it. He made the attachment too quickly. How much of a terrible person was he? It made him feel horrendous, locked down this inescapable path of self-loathing and cycle of regrets. The spear began to glow a red color. He should walk away. He should leave without saying another word. He should make his way home and suffocate himself in these thoughts, to spare her the suffering- until he remembered.
Aiden, age 13 - he awkwardly stumbles up to the bakery in his town, his frail frame starved and crumbling. He reaches for a loaf of bread, and quickly takes it and dashes away, the owner shouting after him in a different tongue than his native one. He runs and runs, until he gets to a dark alleyway, and rips into the bread with his teeth. He thought to himself. His parents left him 11 years ago, or so he's told by his gang of thieves. His blood boiled, his mind raged, his teeth ripping into the bread like a wolf would rip into freshly caught prey. "If I ever see them again, I'll... I'll..!" he mutters between snorts and breaths of his meal.
That rage at being abandoned. The only way to quell it was to... get over it. But even after he was recruited into the training program, it took him years and the birth of his child to come to terms with the fact he was abandoned. Inadequate. And he never wanted to put anyone through that. Even if it might hurt her in the end, she would know that he cared for her until his last breaths, and live for the now. He turned to the girl and smiled, his spear calming down. "Yeah, Karina. Let's go on an adventure."
Redeemed Soldier Creature - Human Soldier Vigilance Whenever ~ attacks, you may give another target creature you or a teammate controls +2/+1 until end of turn. "My life has been filled with mistakes. I won't let anyone else make the same ones I did if I don't have to." - Aiden of Sunspear 3/3
(Attacking with Karina, not against her - yay teamwork)
Karina, the Student: Doesn't feel very red, more like a black effect. Probably or ? 7/10.
It continues launching attacks. It seems to not be trying to avoid hitting the shield.
Hammer Through Instant Destroy target artifact creature or creature with defender. Any creatures blocked by that creature this turn gain trample until end of turn. Cast this spell only during your turn. Shielded Mercenary - A nice blocker for white. Seems about right. Only slightly concerned by how board stall-y a 3/6 for 4 can be though. 8/10
(NOTE: Now that Malextros and Aylin have finally met I'm no longer using Guest System for Malextros)
As Aylin's attack on the demon fails and his mists begin to gather information on her, Malextros looks at Aiden. "This is your chance, Aiden... Strike her! Strike her right now and I will give you your family back!"
Coax into Murder Instant Until end of turn, target creature gains ": Destroy target creature." Malextros's words were poisonous, and his intents were obviously evil, but would the reward be enough to tempt Aiden?
Aiden looked at the demon. He was already too late. Things seemed to slow down for him. "NO!" he shouted, holding his spear in a fighting position. There it was again... the shaking fear. Fear. He had to protect Aylin, he had to do what was right, he had to
"This is your chance, Aiden... Strike her! Strike her right now and I will give you your family back!"
A deal, worth everything. He couldn't raise Karina as his own, his own family dead, his kingdom basically gone to him forever more... Malextros said he could bring his family back. And he believed him. No, no, he couldn't be... he readied his spear. His eyes glazed over into a pure white. "For someone like you... never." he said, his voice deeper than usual. He slammed his spear into the ground, and a white blaze of light shot from the tip of his spear directly at Malextros.
"Though the sun may set, I never will!" he shouted, repeating the Sunspear slogan.
Aiden of Sunspear Legendary Creature - Human Soldier Indestructible, vigilance, lifelink Other creatures you control have indestructible. "Though the sun may set, I never will!" 7/7
Coax into Murder: Weird effect, at first it seems like too much mana and then you realize it can be pretty easy to untap creatures too. I think at rare it's not up there enough for that, but at uncommon seems kinda good for that, it's also very situational and in limited can be a big dud because you lose a creature for combat purposes. Neat flavor though 8/10.
Aiden of Sunspear: kind of taking it as a gift (vigilance) and as an attack (granting stuff indestructible) at the same time. Not sure about the 7/7 lifelink since Avacyn, Angel of Hope is already a great card (granted, she gives everything you own indestructible, but in this situation I think the lifelink is better than the flying). However, this is the kind of all-in Aiden card I was expecting to see, so my inner fanboy will take over and give you a 10/10!
Malextros raises his arm, pointing it with an open hand at the ray of light. The second it comes into contact with his palm the demon completely dissolves, leaving only the dark mist in his wake. For a few seconds it seems like it's over, but the demon reforms from the mist. One would think he would be angry at the assault, but his smile has only widened, if that was possible at all. "Then you are no longer of use to me" he replies coldly. He raises his hand once more and, for a fraction of a second, something similar to a scar can be seen on the palm, something that definitely wasn't there before the beam of light struck. With speed no mortal could hope to match, the dark mist begins surrounding Aiden, forming a gigantic pitch-black hand that grabs him and violently tosses him outside Aylin's tent. Malextros stares at Aylin. "Now, where were we...?"
Eliminate the Dead Weight Sorcery As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice a creature. ~ deals X damage to any target, where X is the sacrificed creature's power plus its toughness. "Don't worry, even if you refuse to serve I can still find a use for you..." -Malextros
Don't worry, soldier boy. The whisper had returned. You put the fear of the sun in that demon. Now show it what you can really do.
Sofi, Mother of Madness Legendary Creature - Vampire Cleric If a spell or ability would deal damage to you, put that many cards from the top of your library into your graveyard instead. Do let it get to your head. 2/2
The soldier is tossed outside the tent, landing on his ass and rolling onto his back, and of course he doesn't notice that scar. He remembers this feeling, this anger at being unable to do seemingly anything that his parents left him with. No. He COULD do something this time. His eyes are still pure white. He looks at his hands and his spear, wondering how he's doing this, then remembering where he is. "No, no!" he whispers, standing up.
Don't worry, soldier boy. You put the fear of the sun in that demon. Now show it what you can really do.
He grunted, people kept invading his mind... not important. He ran back to the tent, his spear tip glowing bright white and his own white mist combating off the black mist from getting near him. "If you know what is best for you demon, you will leave. NOW." he shouted, his spear illuminating the tent with blinding light. His limbs quit shaking, his mind clear, and he no longer cared what Aylin wanted here. This was now his fight, but he would defend her if he had to anyway.
This is what he must do.
Angel of the Sun Creature - Angel Flying When ~ enters the battlefield, return up to three Soldier creature cards from your graveyard to the battlefield. "Do not fear the dark, young one." 3/5
(cajun took care of the damage - I'll abuse that mill!)
Eliminate the Dead Weight: you and your wordy card names I think you showed off how your card works perfectly with how you did it. Double the mana for double the Fling, but that is a lot of damage with one card potentially. I think it might be better off as a rare? 9.5/10 but again practice what I preach so 10/10.
cajun : Sofi, Mother of Madness: really, really cool effect, turn one clock into another! 10/10.
Angel of the Sun: I like the reanimation effect as a way to complement cajun's aid, I just don't like the power of this card. It's way too much in my opinion, especially if you get something like Captain of the Watch out of it. I think it should have a restriction to only be able to reanimate soldiers with CMC 2 or less and that would still make it a powerful card without it going overboard. 6/10.
As the white light Aiden is emanating bathes both the inside and outside of the tent, Malextros's dark mist starts receding. Suddenly, from the inside of the tent a malicious laughter is heard. A silent explosion seems to take place, and the tent is sent flying away violently. When the blinding light dissipates, Mei and Aiden see that Malextros is gone! But so is Aylin...
(Regarding name wordiness: yup, I'm abusing wordy names just because this is BB and I don't have to put them on an actual card render, but I will not apologize for art! XD)
Aiden looked around, the light not blinding him. The tent launched into the air after the evil laughing. Well, it looks like the demon took his advice and left - but as he looked around he realized Aylin was gone too. "Damn it!" he exclaimed. The light faded but his eyes remained pure white and his spear maintained a soft white glow. He looked at Hanska and gave a small wave. "Uh, hi." he said awkwardly, as he wondered where to go next. He felt something in him connect... pieces fell into place. He might not be a planeswalker, but whatever was happening now was helping him realize some things. He felt a connection to people on the arena, and to the spirits of his family.
Aiden has spent 50 valor to unlock the Call for Aid set Battlebond!
A small strand of silver and purple was pulled from the soldier's head as he watched the tent. The vampire, the sword, the whispers, gone. He'd have to figure out the holes on his own.
The sunlight from the soldier still bit into her flesh, but she had a job to finish and a demon to drain.
"Nice work, soldier boy." A crackly voice said behind him. She hadn't really spoken in years, but she needed his trust right now. "Shame I was a bit too slow, been trying to track this demon down all day. Any idea where it spirited off to?"
Sofi, Secret Hoarder Legendary Creature - Vampire Cleric When Sofi, Secret Hoarder enters the battlefield, for each opponent, that player reveals their hand and you choose a card from it. Exile those cards until Sofi leaves the battlefield. 1/1
