Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and thirty-second challenge! The winner of the "Reach Out And Design Faith" poll was shiftyhomunculus with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... Make a card that gets better when you're behind. This could mean a bonus that specifically kicks in when you're low on life, cards, or whatever, or it could be a card that's just naturally more effective when you're in a bad spot. Note: As this challenge is the same as CotW #107, please don't reuse an old entry from that contest. ~Daij_Djan To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post.And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

I'm going to need templating help on this one: Pearl of Obsolescence Enchantment ( R) Target an opponent. Pearl of Obsolescence costs less equal to the difference of the total power of creatures they control by the total power of creatures you control. When Pearl of Obsolescence enters the battlefield, exile target creatures with total power less than the total power of creatures target opponent controls until Pearl of Obsolescence leaves the field. {Render}

Witching Hour Instant Target creature you control gains lifelink until end of turn. Fateful hour — If you have 5 or less life, instead each creature you control gains lifelink until end of turn, and whenever a creature deals combat damage to you this turn, destroy that creature. {Render}

This will be a very thread won't it Essence Reclaimer Creature — Angel Flying, lifelink Whenever Essence Reclaimer attacks an opponent with 4 or more life than you, it has base power and toughness X/X until end of turn, where X is the difference. “What has been stolen will be restored with a divine vengeance.”3/3 Tesagk: Something like "~ costs less to cast, where X is the total power of creatures targeted opponent controls minus the total power of creatures you control."? I think "targeted opponent" works off the second ability but I might be wrong in which case it's just "an opponent" I guess

When in doubt, do a common. It's funny, mine started as a common with an obscene costing cast. But when it got wordy I realized it was more likely rare material, even if it's not a fabulous rare. (Though, with the lowered costing, that would be debatable.)

Here is my entry.
I might try to think of something more creative, but this is all I could come up with for now.

A sweeper is usually pretty good when you're behind. Of course, it's very conditional. It has some flexibility as a surprise finisher or to ambush something with up to 4 toughness. Pyroclasm on the now tertiary flash color of black. Pun in flavortext. Attachment Deleted

I see that someone already used Dethrone... but that doesn't mean that I can't! Blood-Drunk Gadfly Creature - Vampire Advisor Dethrone (Whenever this creature attacks the player with the most life or tied for the most life, put a +1/+1 counter on it.)When Blood-Drunk Gadfly deals damage, you may have target player gain that much life. 2/1

Loyal Bloodhound Creature - Hound Lifelink (Damage dealt by the creature also causes its controller to gain that much life.)Loyal Bloodhound gets +1/+0 as long as you have less life than another player. 1/1 A man's best friend.

I guess I'll come back with this. Witness Of The End Creature - Spirit Cleric Flying When ~ dies, each player discards their hand, sacrifices all creatures they control, and their life total becomes 10. 3/3

Grand Arbiter Augustine V Legendary Creature - Human Advisor Lifelink Spells your opponents cast cost X more to cast, where X is how many more creatures they control than you. “That will cost you.”3/4 Wording feels bizarre, but this is what I’m going with.

Here's an entry that will equalize the game when playing against some unfair decks like grixis delve, tron, or reanimator.

That's what I thought, but the way it's worded it wouldn't work, it would have to be "any number of target creatures"

Tesagk, if all your opponents have a smaller total than you, then this templating will result in a negative value. Would this result in an additional cost instead of a discount? How about: Pearl of Obsolescence
Enchantment If the total power of creatures an opponent controls is greater than the total power of creatures you control, this spell costs less to cast, where X is the difference. When ~ enters the battlefield, exile any number of target creatures with total power X or less until ~ leaves the battlefield. Note, though, that it isn't necessarily better if an opponent has a greater total than you, because you chose a single value for X. In such a situation it can only even out the board. You can only discount this up to , and you can only exile up to the difference between the total power of your creatures and an opponents'. However, if you want something that can swing things around and actually discount this up to if an opponent has an overwhelming board state, you can consider something like this (if a bit weird for using more than one variable): Pearl of Obsolescence Enchantment If the total power of creatures an opponent controls is greater than the total power of creatures you control, this spell costs less to cast, where Y is the difference. When ~ enters the battlefield, exile any number of target creatures with total power X or less until ~ leaves the battlefield.

Attachment DeletedRise to the Occasion Sorcery Either add one mana of any color or exile the top card of your library. Then repeat this process X times, where X is target opponent's life total. (You may change your choice with each iteration.)You may play cards exiled this way until end of turn. "Finally, a worthy opponent."This is the first monored card I've designed on the new forums lul
