Here is me doing another very strange thing. (That's a bad sign) Flaming Clashes Instant ~ deals 3 damage to any target. Choose your allignment. ( If you don't have an alligment token, put your alligment token in the neutral space. Otherwise, move it up or down.) So, this is an odd mechanic, it's kind of like dungeons but you move up and down isntead of moving "forward".If viz is cool with it, I thought it would be fun for different players to decide what happens at different levels. Otherwise, I could fill it all in. The + is meant to represent the big organization, and the - the free cities. Sadly this excludes the poor totem makers but I think it makes sense for them to be a bit by the wayside of the conflict, which seems the driving force of the set. +5: ??, remove your allignment token. +4: ?? +3: ?? +2: ?? +1: The next instant or sorcery spell you cast this turn, costs less to cast. 0: Scry 1. -1: You may discard a card, if you do, draw a card. -2: ?? -3: ?? -4: ?? -5: ??, remove your allignment token. Once you get to the top you "restart", so the +5 and -5 should be pretty powerful to make it worth it. Btw, this could fit in some supplementary product, like a long piece of paper or something. (Or whatever game instructions are made of, what are they made of btw?)

This is ameisenmeister's challenge, so I'll let them weigh in on that, but I'm glad to see this progressing! I'm happy to fill in a couple of the other levels for this. It also reminds me of the Blood or Tears system from Heroes of Might and Magic 6. I think it may be better to force a player to progress in the same direction once the direction is chosen (prevents someone from just going back-and-forth all day), and no sliding back down (basically have it be a dungeon with just a linear path, and up rather than down). Once you achieve the highest, it can reset to neutral. This way, you could represent it by a double-sided card, with one side being for the Steel Array and the other for the free cities. The totem makers can have their alternate thing they do, which I think is fine. So have the alignment be for order (Steel Array) and chaos (free cities), with the totems being their separate Neutral alignment (think of it like a z-axis). Common #5
Totem Carver Creature - Viashino Shaman When ~ enters the battlefield, if was used to cast it, create a colorless enchantment Aura token with "Enchant creature" and "Enchanted creature has totem armor." Attach it to another target creature you control. 3/2 ---- +5: ??, remove your allignment token. +4: ?? +3: ?? +2: Until the beginning of your next end step, counter the next spell an opponent controls unless they pay . +1: The next instant or sorcery spell you cast this turn, costs less to cast. 0: Scry 1. -1: You may discard a card, if you do, draw a card. -2: Put a +1/+1 counter on up to one target creature you control. -3: ?? -4: ?? -5: ??, remove your allignment token.

Internal Betrayal Sorcery Target player sacrifices a creature. Choose your alignment. (If you don't have an alignment token, put your alignment token in the neutral space. Otherwise, move it up or down.)The Governor of the Falgem Port was too passive for the rest of the Free Cities. Their people should be thankful: it was this, or burning their town to a crisp.
+5: ??, remove your allignment token. +4: ?? +3: Tap up to one target creature. It doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step. +2: Until the beginning of your next end step, counter the next spell an opponent controls unless they pay . +1: The next instant and sorcery spell you cast next turn costs less to cast. 0: Scry 1. -1: You may discard a card. If you do, draw a card. -2: Put a +1/+1 counter on up to one target creature you control. -3: Create a Treasure token. -4: ?? -5: ??, remove your allignment token. Regarding the mechanic, I think going up and down is the "fun" part of the mechanic, it allows you to strategize and go to the "place" you want to and stay there. I have to say that the +2 feels a bit obnoxious, taxing by your opponent is a pretty big deal. To be fair, the -1 and 0 are probably too similar too, it wasn't a smart choice by me. I think it's the type of mechanic that would need to be tested a lot, but I think it's fine. I think the +5 and -5 should not be too strong because otherwise it will play like a linear dungeon. EDIT: Smiley'd

Yeah, fair enough on the +2 being too strong, and my phrasing on it was terrible as well. Basically, it's a free Spell Pierce, but that does seem strong. I'll edit it to be: +5: ??, remove your alignment token. +4: Detain target artifact or creature. +3: Tap up to one target creature. It doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step. +2: Spells you control have ward until the beginning of your next turn. +1: The next instant and sorcery spell you cast next turn costs less to cast. 0: Scry 1. -1: You may discard a card. If you do, draw a card. -2: Put a +1/+1 counter on up to one target creature you control. -3: Create a Treasure token. -4: Target creature you control fights target creature you don't control. -5: ??, remove your alignment token. Yeah, let's have it be up and down, and agreed that it would need a ton of play testing, but it's still fun to make up abilities for it. ----- Common #9
Steel Array Module Artifact - Equipment When ~ enters the battlefield, if was used to cast it, target opponent loses 2 life and you gain 2 life. Equipped creature gets +0/+2 and has ward . Equip

Oh, did you mean noncreature spells for the +2? I still think it would be too obnoxious. I think the +2 is better now, although I would include permanents too. That way is more protective. The +4 and +3 have a similar issue in that they might be a bit too similar, also, is detain a mechanic from the set? I guess it is now lmao. common #10
Reconstructed Bearling Artifact Creature - Bear Construct Salvage (Whenever this creature deals lethal damage, put a +1/+1 counter on it.)
~ costs less to cast if you control a creature that is enchanted or that has a +1/+1 counter on it. 4/5 I think the totems and salvage mechanic push the totem makers into something similar to modified.

Uncommon #2 Taisha, Wild Scrapcrafter Legendary Creature - Human Druid Artificer Creature spells you cast cost less to cast. Whenever you cast another creature spell, choose your alignment. "I won't let you wreck our wilds any longer!"3/2 +5: Search your library for a noncreature, nonland card, put it in your hand, then shuffle. Remove your alignment token. +4: Detain target artifact or creature. +3: Tap up to one target creature. It doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step. +2: Spells you control have ward 2 until the beginning of your next turn. +1: The next instant and sorcery spell you cast next turn 1 costs less to cast. 0: Scry 1. -1: You may discard a card. If you do, draw a card. -2: Put a +1/+1 counter on up to one target creature you control. -3: Create a Treasure token. -4: Target creature you control fights target creature you don't control. -5: Create a 2/2 green Beast creature token for each basic land you control. Remove your alignment token. EDIT: Made it basics. DANG -5 was hard to come up with.

Maybe the -5 could count only basic lands? Won't make too much difference, but would be more flavorful. Also, it seems a bit strong compared to the +5.

I agree that the -5 is too strong, also i think the - represents the free cities, I'd probably make it create one 4/4 or 5/5 construct with trample, like the +5 is very good card selection but no tempo and the -5 is all tempo, which makes sense based on their profile. I feel that the +x and -x could have probably been better mechanically tied together but overall I like how it went out. Alenkan's Virtuoso Artifact Creature - Human Artificer Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell from your hand, create a 1/1 colorless Drone artifact token with flying and connected. Tap three untapped artifacts you control: ~ gains protection from a color of your choice until end of turn. "Optimizing in general can be difficult. As such, it is optimizing an optimizer that is the most difficult. But also the most rewarding."

Judging time! Well, let's start by saying that I'm really happy to see how you all got out of your way to come up with creative mechanics. The allignment mechanic is quite novel and also quite a lot to evaluate. Let's see! lordpatAzavandian MedicWell, transform has still a lot of design space left and your's is probably not the most innovative but that's a good thing in my book. Having a creature transform back and forth at will is a cool and simple idea and I wonder why these don't already exist. I also like how the cards are mirrored although I wonder why these constructs aren't artifact creatures. 4/5Flaming ClashesThis is a really tough thing to judge because of the total of eleven effects the alignment can offer you. However, at this point you only came up with five of them and these are therefore the ones I will take into consideration. The 0 is nice and simple and the -1 is cool too. The +1 on the other hand is kind of narrow. You have to have something to move your alignment and something after that that can make use of the cost reduction. I'm actually not sure whether it would be better to be able to move the alignment up and down or just in one direction. But I'm definitely intrigued enough to design some additional cards and playtest the mechanic to find out. This should already tell you that your design here – although maybe not an absolute slam-dunk all the way – is a great idea that just oozes creativity. I also liked that you let others join the fun by leaving some of the levels empty. 5/5 simply for the great idea Verdous Power PlantI love the ambiguity of the name. A power plant that produces green mana. It's also a mana rock in the early game and can ramp itself into a beefy treefolk. What's not to love? 5/5Internal BetrayalAnd here I am, pondering whether to give you bonus points because you criticised the +2 for exactly the same reasons I did (in my comments on Totem Carver). It seems that the + side of the alignment is more towards control and the – side toward aggro and ramp, which both fit their respective faction well. I also like your +3 and -3 abilities. Oh, and the actual card Internal Betrayal is flavorful and solid. Another 5/5 for me. Reconstructed BearlingHaha, I just had a small laugh about your post. The thing is, I'm judging the cards right now while reading them for the first time and it now happened for the third time that I wrote a comment to a card only to see that you wrote basically the same in your next post. I agree with your evaluation of the +2 ability and also wrote the same as you did about the +4. My only issue with your post this time is the card itself. I'm not sure that salvage is a good keyword (see my comment on Persistent Hyena) but I appreciate that you explored its design space and widened it by having the third faction of the set care about counters and auras. 4.5/5Alenkan's VirtuosoAs usual, I'm completely on your side when it comes to the alignment evalutaion. I think the idea which two factions are represented with the mechanic got a bit lost in the shuffle. Your card is great, too. It's a cool build-around for limited or the kitchen table but still has chances to be a centerpiece of a more out-there viable constructed deck. 5/5sorsalPersistent HyenaIt's Sengir Hyena! Fine card, although I'm not sure that this effect matters often enough to validate a keyword. It also doesn't have much to do with what the set is about other than being an artifact creature. But it's a solid card and solid cards are fine. 3/5Steel Array ConnectorAlright, I was hoping for more connected shenanigans going on and an equipment that grants the keyword is a good choice for an uncommon. But why does it boost a creature if it is not and artifact? I don't get the flavor behind that. Otherwise a solid but not particularly exciting card. 3.5/5vizionariusSteel Array ObserverCool card and a flying bot is a good fit for the connected keyword. The revealing of all top cards is a double edged sword however, because games lose a lot of their excitement when basically every card drawn is revealed. I guess in limited it's okay but probably not a perfect idea although it matches the flavor perfectly. 4/5Totem CarverTotem armor too. Well, set's getting busy. The colored mana matters adds even more and without the trigger, the card is beyond bad. Not a fan, sorry. On the other hand, I like that you took the alignment ball from lordpat and ran with it and added some new effects for the chart. I'm not sure about the +2 though as it could turn out to be oppressive. 2.5/5Hex WardI like the novelty of protection from instants and sorceries but the card itself is probably rather weak. Compared to Blossoming Defense or even to Ranger's Guile it's worse most of the time and even costs more. I also don't really see what it has to do with the set. The card is solid but doesn't really convince me. 3/5Steel Array ModuleI wasn't a particular fan of the if XY was spent to cast this the first time you did it but on this card it's much better. The card is still playable without the bonus and also makes sense from a flavor standpoint. I also like how you used lordpat's feedback and changed the +2. My only issue with this post of yours is that the +4 is pretty similar to the +3. And it features yet another keyword: detain. Granted, it hits all the flavor boxes for the Steel Array but not every player knows what it means. Why not stick to something simple? Like... Draw a card. 4.5/5Quella AquamanderWell, you really like mulitcolor, don't you? But the card is good – both sides are – and your feedback on the alignment effects are on point. Well done! 5/5foureyesisafishTaisha, Wild ScrapcrafterPowerful build-around and a fine commander for an alignment deck. Personally, I'm not a fan of uncommon legendaries showing up in every set nowadays but you can't know that and I won't hold that against you. The card looks interesting and fair and the effects you chose for the alignement ladder are simple yet interesting. Good job! 5/5
{And the winner is...} ...lordpat! If you read my card comments this shouldn't surprise you. Although foureyesisafish had a better result from a mathematical point of view, lordpat was just so commited to this pack that I'm looking forward to seeing what they have in store for the next challenge.
Thanks everyone for participating!

Thanks for the win! The challenge ended up being a lot of fun. I think the allignment mechanic could be reworked in another set or context. I'm pretty happy about how it all turned out.
It will take me a bit to create the next challenge, I think I have an idea though.

Rumors of KamposArt by bigdaddyk In Kampos, things are... weird. Look alikes, strange stories, mysterious phenomenan, and some hiddden dark secrets. The state of Ladessa is leaded by the Archbishop Vansen, and is infamous for it's surveillance, conspiracies and experimentation. Anything or anyone who spreads rumors or says something they don't like, vanishes a few days later. What can you find hidden beneath the rivers that connect the cities and farmlands of Campos? One of the particularities of Kampos is that rumors spread like wildfire, and spreading them can actually cause them to be true, like adding fuel to some dark fire... And sometimes you feel like in the middle of the night you are being watched or followed, or things just don't seem to make sense... ...and everywhere you look, you can't help but feel that the state is hiding something... and every stone seems to be hiding something... ...and something about this place seems to mess with your head. What is going on? Who or what is causing this? So, what are you going to do? It's up to you!
Kampos is a horror set but with an emphasis on urban, dystopic, and psychological horror. While some amount of cosmic horror is good, I'd try to avoid Cthulu stuff specifically as that has been done to death. Horros however, are both fun and encouraged! It's okay if the set hits some of the same themes as Innistrad, as long as the setting feels different enough, while some vampires are okay, I'd avoid making the focus of the set a horror tribal with spirits and zombies etc. The plane should feel strange, disturbing and alien. So feel free to come up with some strange strange designs and weird mechanics! Mechanically, kampos is a set about going wide, creating tokens, and seing them all allign as the conspiracies unfold upon your very eyes. Finally, you'll have to figure out how you get insanity counters, what they do, etc.! So far: -Doppelganger <cost> (You may cast this for its doppelganger cost. If you do, create a token that's a copy of it as it enters the battlefield.) -Whisper (You may tap an untapped creature as you cast this spell.) -Insanity counters ? -Enigma/Meddle: they work as ahybrid between sagas and classes. I want to see references here, to urban legends, to modern horror stories, to psychological thrillers and whatever else you want! Let's make this feelv ery much top down! And I'd also like to know more about this goverment, this experiments, these weird ocurrences that seem to ocurr to everyone. Maybe you can double down on the dystopian element of it, go with some sci-fi thing or something else. Good luck to all! And let's see some mysteries! [/div][/div]

Serthtile would be a alligned faction of some kind, playing into the mechanical theme of whisper by creating tokens. I thought that there is a cycle of incubators, each drawing a card at etb and then they can be sacced to create a token with an upside depending if you used the correct color of mana.
