Welcome to the Deckbuilders' Challenge originally created by sdfkjgh! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a deck along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of every two weeks, a winner will be determined by forum poll, and the winner decides the challenge for the next fortnight's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our ninety-ninth challenge! The winners of the “The Roaring 1999s“ poll were melono and Daij_Djan with... |
(Pauper Commander)
{Comments}I was looking through the lists of the challenge, and came upon the movie The Mummy. I actually had a card that I wanted to make a pauper commander deck around that fits it (as the titular mummy also had an army) A pauper commander deck built around ramping, discarding, and most importantly, amassing a giant mummy army. Heads up: cycling has discarding as its cost. If possible, wait for your commander before cycling your cards. Don't forget to wait if possible with your instant discard abilities, as it's a neat combat trick, and if you're afraid you might lose your army, a good way to start rebuilding it. PS: the Changeling Outcast is all creature types, thus also an Army. |

And the challenge issued by one of our winners was... Blue this, elf that, we all have our opinions. And these opinions often guide us in what we would build in a deck. Try to go against it for this challenge: Create a deck using a mechanic, color, tribe, gametype or whatever else, and have that chosen part be something you hate, dislike, or feel like it isn't you. Explain what the disliked part is as well.An easy example would be a counterspell hater making a mono blue control deck. Or a pauper-only player making a pioneer deck. Please provide a decklist using deckstats, tappedout or similar. Feel free to add some comments as they will be included in the final poll. Please provide a deck name as well as choose a card to represent your deck in the poll. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

I've already read this challenge this morning before work, so I already had a slight headstart in thinking about where to go with this one.
I wasn't really sure at first what to do, since while I definitely have some preferences, I pretty much have at least dabbled in pretty much every deckstyle and don't really hate anyone - but then I had an epiphany: There actually is something I hate down to my core and have expressed as such several times over the years: Alchemy rebalances and Arena only mechanics.
So to be honest I'm not sure I'll be able to do an entry for RL reasons - but if I do manage (and part of me kind of wishes I won't make it - which is why I'll hope I'll manage nethertheless ) to do an entry, I'll probably go with a Vexyr, Ich-Tekik's Heir deck. As we say in German: "Wenn schon, denn schon."

I was first planning on doing something like a legacy or competitive commander deck, as I hate expensive decks, but I have a partner pair in my possible pauper commanders list which I have been dreading building, so this is a good time to get those off my list: Elfball. Elves are boring to me. There are some really strong elves, but in pauper commander consistency in getting these is lacking. And the deck for the most part just builds itself: grab the best elves and you're done. I also put in the plunder package so the deck has more card draw and possible sacrifice outlets. (See the instants and artifacts for the plunder package, and you should understand what I mean.) This is a pauper commander deck that is elves.
