Welcome back to Tosche Station, errbody! It's been a while.
So, it seems that I've been seduced to the dark side. After blowing through all my free Sealed & Draft tokens, spending them all on mono- Control decks with the decent-only-for-Limited combo of Arcane Investigator/Pixie Guide/Feywild Trickster, I've built a Control deck for the first time in my life. May it also be the last. This deck and its sideboard have gone through some changes, because like always, I have no earthly clue what the fuck I'm doing when it comes to sideboards, and once again started off by loading it with utter useless crap. It also started out without the Snow package, because apparently, I don't like playing with good, useful, &/or powerful cards.
This deck is built specifically with the 2022 post-rotation meta in mind:
A Wizard's Staff Has a Knob on the End
2022 Standard
3 Hall of Storm Giants (Used to be 2.)
4 Ascendant Spirit (Used to be 3, but it's too good not to run the full 4, so I moved a Bar the Gate to the sideboard.)
4 Fly (When you're venturing into the dungeon 2 or 3 times/turn, what is normally minor additional benefits quickly becomes overwhelming card and board advantage. Also, do you have any idea how hard it is to search for a card named Fly, and not get all the flying false positives?)
4 Wizard Class (I really wish they'd let me polish my knob at instant speed.)
3 Pixie Guide (It's a 1/3 flier for 2, that sometimes gives additional benefits.)
3 Contact Other Plane (These are the additional benefits. Should this be Behold the Multiverse? Probably, but my Timmy is screaming "SCRY 3, DRAW 3, MOTHERFUCKER!!" far too loud to ignore. I usually end up cutting at least 1 during sideboarding.)
4 Yuan-Ti Malison (Used to be 3, but it's the most important card in the deck, and people keep rudely killing it.)
3 Bar the Gate (Used to be just 4 Bar the Gate, 4 You Find the Villains' Lair, and that's it, but 8 counterspells does not a Control deck make.)
4 You Find the Villains' Lair (You're almost never learning their secrets.)
4 Saw It Coming (Apparently, 11 or 12 counterspells does.)
3 Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar (This started at 3, and hasn't changed at all.)
Sideboard (I absolutely hate Bo1, both the setup of only 7 sideboard cards, and the fact that there's so few options for Bo3 on Arena. I need to testdevelop my sideboarding skills!):
3 Test of Talents; 2 for the 7 allowable in Bo1. (This used to be 3 or 4 Eccentric Apprentice, because I suck at sideboards.)
4 You Come to a River; 2 for the 7. (Sometimes, things can slip through the cracks in your countermagic arsenal, or mebbe you just need to stall. If you're attempting to find a crossing, you're doing it wrong.)
1 Bar the Gate (Nothing's like getting The Atropal on their turn.)
3 Mind Flayer; 2 for the 7. (That's a nice fatty. Shame if something were to happen to it.)
3 Negate (This used to be 3 or 4 Djinni Windseer, because what the fuck am I doing with my life?)
1 Contact Other Plane (Because I don't know why.)
Until next tim--
Ach, ye daft bastards! He' obviously means meh!
WILL YOU ALL JUST SHUT UP!!!
As I was saying, until next time, bye!
