In this game, the challenge-giver writes a short narrative prompt to which the challengers will respond to by designing a card that is flavorfully appropriate to it. For example, the prompt describes a fierce red dragon attacking a village. Valid entries could be a dragonslayer, another red dragon that has come to fight his rival, or a spell that turns the winged menace into a fluffy, harmless bunny. A week or so after having posted the prompt, the challenge-giver will rate the entries and declare a winner, which will become the new challenge-giver.
The first prompt will follow a classic trope.
"You are traversing the woods on horseback at a leisurely pace. Judging by your map, it will take yet another hour or two of travel before reaching your destination: a jolly little village mainly inhabited by halflings, where a delightful harvest festival awaits you. The sky is clear, the sun is high, the air is crisp, it sure is a nice day. You reach an old stone bridge built across a river, when suddenly you hear a mighty roar. From the other side of the bridge, a large troll is walking towards you. He tells you that if you want to cross the bridge, you will have to pay him a toll. 'Otherwise, get lost or get smashed!" he says fiercely. What do you do?"

Check the Map Sorcery Choose one— • No way around it — Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. It gains haste and first strike until end of turn. • Take a detour — Reveal the top five cards of your library. Put a land card from among them onto the battlefield tapped and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order. If you didn’t reveal a land card this way, return Check the Map to your hand.

Interesting idea for a challenge. (Art: A large green troll looks at his feet in shock as the grey brick bridge under him dissolves into blue and white energy.)Diffuse Instant Choose one: - Target nonland permanent phases out. - Return target nonland permanent to its owner's hand. "Want to see a magic trick, o large bellied one?" - Glem, the Lonebard

Traveling so might not have time to art things up, but I really like this challenge, so definitely wanted to put a submission. This card comes with 2 variants in flavor text, divided 50-50 in packs. Struggle to Defeat Sorcery Destroy target creature, then clash with that creature's controller. If you win, create a Food token. Otherwise, you lose life equal to that creature's power. ¹Troll, yumm!²Ugh, well, at least we're through.Art: Troll Giant with a club blocking a bridge over a river, with a small group of Kithkin in front of him with swords drawn

emberfire17 - Pay the Toll: "A non-confrontational answer. I hope you still have enough coin to enjoy the festival." I think this card is off-colored, it should have been blue. Red bestows at most restricted kinds of unblockability ( see here and Menace). The wording could use a bit of fixing, I think it could be "(Up to?) X target creatures get +1/+1 until end of turn and can't be blocked this turn, where X is the number of mana produced by Treasures spent to cast this spell." Also, in terms of flavor, why do the creatures get a +1/+1? Aside from these things, the core idea of bestowing unblockability through Treasure interaction to represent the toll being paid is nice.
Idea - Run Past: "It shouldn't be too hard to outrun the troll with your horse. I just hope that he doesn't start tossing boulders at you." This card is balanced enough and the flavor is good, but I think it's off-colored. "Super-trample" belongs to green, not to red (which can bestow it only to creatures that have trample through Proud Wildbonder)
twintania - Propagator of Curse: "The troll greedily accepts your offering, but in time he will begin to curse you, as his body withers away." The core flavor on this card is super, but the "Cursed treasure" seems rather underwhelming, the opponent you target will probably just use it as quickly as possible or maybe even waste the mana to avoid the pinging damage at the end of their turn; and if you target yourself, then this card becomes the equivalent of a slightly more inconvenient version of an Ixalan pirate. The flavor text is very nice, but I don't think that it's represented well through the card's effects.
Flo00 - Check the Map: "The chart will determine whether your next move will be made by hoof or by sword." This card is overall pretty good. On an unrelated note, I'm impressed at what nice artworks stable diffusion can make.
ZephyrPhantom - Diffuse: "You made a troll take a bath, that's quite the achievement." Same as above, this card is overall a nice design. Good flavor text.
melono - Pay the Toll: "For what you know, the troll might use part of the tolls to maintain the bridge...or maybe not." An interesting and overall well designed card. You get a potential game-ender for cheap, but if you miscalculate, you will pay (literally). I like how you conveyed "paying the toll" through the card's effects. I'd only raise the flashback cost by .
hydraheadhunter - Walk Through the River: "The troll sulks as he watches you traverse the river. You can hear him grumble curses directed at fish, merfolk and aquatic beings everywhere." An overall nice design. That's a good use of the overload keyword.
vizionarius - Struggle to Defeat: "Eating troll meat? I hope you won't get food poisoning." The card is overall well designed and particularly well balanced, it embodies well the spirit of "nothing goes to waste". I like how there are two different flavor texts corresponding to the two possible results of the clash. I only have a minor flavor-related critique: trolls are usually tough to kill in-game, so this spell won't likely be enough to actually kill one.
The winner is zephyrphantom! With flo00 and melono as runnerups.

This card is balanced enough and the flavor is good, but I think it's off-colored. "Super-trample" belongs to green, not to red (which can bestow it only to creatures that have trample through Proud Wildbonder) It's true that the effect is generally found in green though I couldn't check if the mechanical color pie explicitly says it must be that way (and either way I would disagree with Wizards on that approach, this really feels like a red effect if it's not only applicable to creatures with trample). That being said it's an effect you can definitely find applied to creatures without trample such as with Predatory Focus, Ruxa or Siege Behemoth. Admittedly however, the only example I could of a red version is Outmaneuver, which is an older card and being a little wonky compared to current color pie philosophy comes with the territory there (though in all fairness, it is the closest card to the one I designed, being an instant that gives creatures this ability, where the closest green equivalent is a sorcery, and outmaneuver also forces the damage to be assigned as though they weren't blocked, as opposed to giving a choice and only working on creatures you control).

Following the map once more as you head out through the village, you come to a crossing that wasn't there before. You surmise that the map you have given is out of date, given that you are traveling along the frontier of the kingdom. That said, you assume that there must be another village up ahead, somehow.
As you approach the crossroad, you are greeted by two rough looking armored figures - a man wearing armor that has been painted pitch black, and a woman wearing armor that has been hastily painted white. They claim that among them is a a knight that always tells lies and a knave that always tells the truth, but neither will tell you their true identity.
The weather is worsening fast, and you need to make it to the village before you are drenched in rain. But only one of these people will lead you to the village. What do you do?

Had this card designed a bit ago, but fits here nicely (traveling, so limited forum/design availability). You don't need help. And don't care for their games, so just keep on going, since you know the way... then get...

{Art Credit Information}So regarding this art credit, after searching online I could not find a specified artist. Saucenao could not identify the image, and google search results only yielded the image appearing in two places, the art on the credit belonging to a website from a comic book store, and a playmat site, neither of which identified an artist. Since there was a playmat I tried to see if there was any official card that used this art, but didn't find any. I also noticed there is a signature at the bottom of the image, but when I tried searching for a crop (just then signature) all I got was graffiti scribbles in search results. Thus I've left the credit as the website where the art is found.

I summoned a liatog. "It is called liatog. Its favorite food is lie and it doesn't accept the taste of truth. If you are a knave, you don't attract it. But if a knight, it eats you in a throw. Then, I ask you a question." I covered an information. It only eats kind of a lie or falsification and have no interest in material. Unless the knight was a lie made flesh, their health is in no danger. But it wouldn't hurt you to try to see the knight's frightened face especially in a case which they is fooling you with such a question.

Paradoxical Interrogation Sorcery You may sacrifice a Clue. If you do, each opponent reveals their hand, you choose a card from among them and they discard that card. Otherwise investigate two times. “Ha, easy! I just have to ask one what the other would say and then do the opposite.”pernicious I was also amazed by how fast I got a good picture. This one here took me quite some attempts and I'm not entirely satisfied. Thanks a lot for the link in picture into card. That also helped a lot to get the missing pictures for my custom cube.

vizionarius - Your adventurer gets sick and meets an unfortunate end at the thuggery of the footpads roaming the area. Interesting start, having the character decide not to humor the problem at all in a very conventional way. A nice simple common that can fit in many sets and has rather flexible flavor that you used quite well for the situation. Set-ready. Idea - Fascinating! They appear to have become quite wooden in their movements after their punishment. - A very pushed modal Switcheroo. It seems like WOTC isn't partiuclarly fond of costing this effect below 4 mana recently though - Perplexing Chimera, Eyes Everywhere, Modify Memory, and most noticeably Shifting Loyalties where the cost is upped 6 for the freedom of using any type. Despite that I actually feel like the base effect isn't too unreasonable at 4 and would be fine in most formats - it's the kicker that makes me a bit concerned that this might be too pushed for how easy it could be to get int draft, because now it has the option to also function as a weaker Blatant Thievery as well and that's some pretty flexible. I think for the sake of limited this would need to be a :rare:, but otherwise I think this is a pretty interesting push of an existing effect. twintania - It's a rather eccentric solution that results in a lot of unpleasant crunching and broken teeth, but it gets the job done. We really don't get Atogs anymore, do we? This feels like a neat way to bring one up while adding some much needed power to Morph and similar (which are typically very slow outside of limited without lots and lots of support). I bet a lot of people running Ixidron would also love it. Probably gets out of hand very fast after turn 4 but considering you have to play a specific strategy for it I think it's a pretty interesting strong atog. pernicious - The wind shows you the way, much to the displeasure of the thugs hoping to deceive you. A nice straightfoward modal charm that makes it easier to put flying hosing effects in mainboard. Pretty graceful design and flavor. emberfire17 - You get lucky and find your way to the next village, but you do have to do a bit of running from the angry "puzzle givers". Coin flipping with tangible risk is always a small fun effect and I think this is a nice way to introduce it at common as a last pick trick or removal. I think my only small gripe is that the flavor feels more Izzet or Rakdos even if mechanically the card should be Dimir. Would still print it as is though since I'm not sure if it could be improved. Flo00 - The tried and true solution. It takes day before they realize the fallacy in their attempted scam. I like that the card enables itself to prevent it from being parasitic. Investigating that much seems a bit of a stretch for black but since it comes off as weaker draw and is meant to enable the discard I think it works. Good flavor and art. Winner: vizionarius - There's a lot of good cards but something about yours flavorfully and the ability to reuse it in many sets puts it a cut above the others for me.

Thanks for the win ZephyrPhantom! ------- Getting lost in the downpour, you realize that all of your belongings have completely soaked over. As you find yourself at the mercy of the elements, you seek shelter and come across a dense thicket that seems to be the best shelter in sight. You crawl in for cover, only to realize that you have made a terrible mistake! You have stumbled into the lair of a giant spider! As it stares you down with its eight eyes, you feel terror creeping into your bones. Just then, you hear the dampened sound of hurried footsteps right outside the thicket. What do you do?

Bait the Monster Instant Choose one: • Goad target creature you don't control. (A goaded creature attacks each combat if able and attacks a player other than you if able, until your next turn.)• Target creature fights another target creature with a different controller.. (Each deals damage equal to its power to the other.)Flordag always knew a full jar of grub-sauce would come in handy someday.

Wild Heartbonder Creature - Human Ranger Creatures can’t fight Wild Heartbonder. , : Gain control of target creature that entered the battlefield this turn for as long as you control no other creature that shares a type with it. “Hello my new friend!”2/2 The first abiilty means if Wild Heartbonder would be involved in a fight, the fight simply doesn't happen. It isn't dealt damage and it doesn't deal damage. In the case of Slaying Mantis style abilities, it is teated as different fights, so only the fight with the Wild Heartbonder doesn't happen.

Judging tomorrow.ZephyrPhantom : Bait the Monster - Very flavorful and I like the choices! Awesome flavor text too. The fight seems quite strong in multiplayer where you can get rid of 2 opposing creatures. But at 4cmc, it doesn't feel overpowered at all. I like this a lot! Flo00 : Wild Heartbonder - Haha, I like the ranger collector vibe here! Feels like an mmorpg! Would love to see how your pet Giant Spider will be greeted at that party you were going to! Idea : Let it Burn - Unfortunately 3 damage is not enough to kill Giant Spider! But I do like your card. I understand your intent in getting rid of bad enchantments, but I can't really think of any bad equipment that would be attached to your creatures. I think it would have been better with "you don't control." pernicious : Run Like Hell - Haha! I can totally see this happening in response to the outlined scenario! The "can't be blocked" feels more , but your solution to make it based on haste works really well in . I think you captured the feel of here perfectly! Love this! twintania : Diffuse Herbal Aroma - Very specific card! Feels a bit like Pokémon's "repel" item. I think would have been a little more versatile to have it prevent damage from small creatures (like power <2). ------- Winner is pernicious . Love the card and the feel it gives, and I think it fits quite perfectly given the prompt. Lots of great submissions!
