Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our four-hundred and seventeenth challenge! The winners of the "Tales from Home" poll were aquonn (left) and Daij_Djan (right) with...And the challenge issued by one of our winners was... Design a cantrip. (A cantrip is typically a 1/2 mana instant or sorcery that draws a card, but anything that's cheap and replaces itself without tutoring is fine. Use your gut feeling if you're not sure if it'd be allowed.) To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

With Elvish Visionary just recently being brought into white, my first inspiration is shifting it into blue for this one:
XYZ Sorcery Create a 1/1 blue Wizard creature token. Draw a card.
Flavor & render to be added later on - unless I decide to go against my usual mantra and give a mythic cantrip a go..

Desperation—Discard a card (When you cast this spell, each player may discard a card to copy it. They may choose new targets for their copy.) Deal 2 damage to any target. Draw a card.

inverness vizionarius Thank you for your inputs. I've thought grit counters to work like shield counters for players, but I neglected ruling 510.2 ("all combat damage that's been assigned is dealt simultaneously."). I'll change the wording to match what vizionarius suggests.

This is a really cool mechanic! I have a question though- how is it intended to work with combat damage? My understanding of the rules is that you would only lose one grit counter per damage step, regardless of how many attackers. With that in mind, twelve grit counters seems like a massive amount.
If I'm wrong about how the rules work, then you can disregard this.

Pretty sure you are right. A way to deal with it would be to have grit read "If a source would deal damage to you, you lose a grit counter instead."

I've decided to take this as literally as possible and make a 1/2 mana instant or sorcery that draws a card. Mind Knot ::|U:: Sorcery Draw a card. Look at the top card of target player's library. | Mined Knowledge ::|B:: Instant Scry 1. You draw a card and lose 1 life. |
Illustration still pending. I'm happy about any suggestions.

Is there a way to decrease the opacity of the symbol?

Is there a way to decrease the opacity of the symbol? I just tried it out, and in my MSE the symbol is more opaque. Go to the folder data\magic-watermarks.mse-include , there are all the watermarks. My Azorious symbol looks like this:

FermatIn that folder there should be a generic file called "watermarks". If you open it with a text editor there will be a bunch of strings like: guild symbol The Azorius Senate (W/U): script: if set.blend_with_colors then spotlight_watermark_blend("/magic-watermarks.mse-include/watermark_azorius2.png") else set_combine(combine:"shadow", input:set_alpha(alpha: 0.35, input:"/magic-watermarks.mse-include/watermark_azorius2.png")) Adjusting the "alpha: 0.35" parameter to a smaller number should reduce the opacity

Actually, ignore my initial idea. I think I'll instead go with a mythic cantrip for real:
Art (and name) might get changed? Don't know, it started as a joke but I grew attached to it
