Haunt, but not just creatures.  bastardneko I believe that's the intention of this challenge. We already came up with cards with Foodlink before. So it's ok to design some "painlink" (Which is exactly why I choose to avoid the ~link design) or "Protection from Seb Mckennon" or something like those.

Manalink (Whenever this spell or permanent deals damage, add that much mana in any combination of types. Until end of turn, you don’t lose this mana as steps and phases end.)
Whenever a spell or an ability with a nonland source causes you to add any amount of mana, put that many +1/+1 counters on Mana Incarnate. 4/4 |

I always thought Rebound could've had more design space if the second casting had a cost to it. I combined Echo and Rebound to make this hypothetical mechanic.
Initially I didn't plan on having it be able to recur every turn but I think that's an interesting design space, a la Chronomantic Escape. |

I return from the dank, mysterious depths of Savathûn's throne world.
 Lucca Riverguard Creature - Cat Spirit (3/3) Stalking (This creature can't be blocked by more than one creature.)
Stalk is a Menace inversion that I've legitimately been considering having replace Deathtouch as the Black/Green evergreen keyword for my own projects, mostly because I hate Deathtouch in Green and find 90% of the justifications for it completely unconvincing. But that's a discussion for another time. Despite being worded similarly, Stalk plays wildly differently from Menace. Instead of making creatures more inherently evasive, it makes combat much more favorable by removing the primary method of dealing with larger creatures: Ganging up. While this doesn't prevent an enemy from chump-blocking your creatures from now until kingdom comes, it *does* allow you to use your creatures to apply a very consistent pressure, which has been handy in a few of my playtests. EDIT: In a bizarre coincidence the topic of Stalking came up on Rosewater's blog, so we'll add that "ing" to the end of the word. And also drop a point of power, if only to play safe. |

Glad someone caught that. Could probably make my cat a 3/3 just to match stats, but I don't think it'd need to be a full cost match. 4 mana for a 3/3 with a gimmick was... acceptable, back in Mirage, but that'd be a *rough* pick nowadays. |

 A different take on Cipher, making it work so it kind of flashbacks as an aura. Ah, how I love you, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. Now I can make cyberpunk cards without feeling guilty. |

This is my first post on this forum, excited to be here! My entry is Deflect N. It's my attempt to fix Absorb N. (Whenever a source would deal damage to this creature, prevent N of that damage.) Absorb appears on only one card and has Storm Scale rating 8, because of its high power level: to paraphrase Mark Rosewater in his Future Sight podcast, a 5/5 with even just Absorb 1 already survives two Lightning Bolts. I thought it would be fun to see if, with a small tweak, I could make the mechanic work more as 'intended'. The mechanic ended up feeling very flavourful for the Ojutai monks of Tarkir, so here is my example card:   Ojutai's Border Guard  Creature - Human Monk  Deflect 2 (If a source would deal damage to this creature while it's untapped, tap it and prevent 2 of that damage.) : Untap Ojutai's Border Guard. The Great Teacher knows all. What made you think you could ambush his disciple?2/2 It may be slightly too complex for common, but I like the design and wanted to share it. In the picture the untap cost seem to be a normal blue mana. Why use half mana ( instead of ) in the text version? |
