Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our three-hundred and thirty-first challenge! The winner of the "Locus Pocus" poll were MaiApologies (She/Her) (left) and sade612 (right) with...And the challenge issued by one of our winners was... In the last few sets, we've started to see designs and mechanics pop up that we saw prototypes of in Mystery Booster. Let's treat the playtest cards as if they were all glimpses of things to come, and make a refined version of a Mystery Booster playtest card (other than Enchantmentize or Recycla-bird) that could appear in a black-bordered set. To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

- Destroy all creatures with power less than the chosen number.

An homage to Animate Spell: {Text}Trap in Flesh Instant Put target instant, sorcery, or artifact spell onto the battlefield under its owner’s control with a creature counter on it. (It’s a creature in addition to its other types with power and toughness each equal to its converted mana cost while it has a creature counter on it. It isn’t an instant or sorcery while it’s a creature. If an instant or sorcery is on the battlefield, its controller puts it into its owner’s graveyard.) When that card leaves the battlefield, its controller may cast it without paying its mana cost if it’s an instant or sorcery. The reminder text could be cut down a little, but rule 400.4a has left sorcery behavior on the battlefield undefined. I chose to use a creature counter instead of an aura to avoid the issues that Animate Dead has in regards to "Enchant X" templating. This also may allow us to clean up memory issues for mechanics like Awaken in the future. It felt right to open up the color pie to Red because the owner rather than controller summoning the creature is sort of like a Brand effect, and to Green because spinning something into a creature seems kind of on flavor and would be a fun retort to your spell being countered. After adding Red and Green, I thought it would be cool to add some artifact disruption to the spell as well, since animating artifacts into creatures is very much in Blue. I decided that Artifacts should not get to be recast after dying since the loss you suffer from having an artifact keep its abilities but have summoning sickness and be able to block was significantly less than the loss you suffer from having one of your spells turned into a vanilla creature. One minor caveat: An equipment/fortification that is turned into a creature will become unattached whenever state-based actions are checked per rule 704.5p. I think this is fine because we all know how broken equipment is.

Inspired by Weaponized Scrap, with obvious mechanical inspiration taken from mutate.

Reference: Maro's Gone Nuts Reap the Harvest Enchantment Whenever you draw your second card each turn, draw a card. Whenever you create one or more creature tokens for the second time each turn, for each of those tokens, create a token that’s a copy of that creature token. Attachment Deleted

For context, I chose Imaginary Friends. I was tempted to put hexproof on this friend, but I thought it might become like, actually too good then.
I genuinely can't tell if this is a good card or not. I'd use it.

This card is based on Vazal, the Compleat and its' megalegendary. The idea is that having more than one copy of it in your deck isn't necessarily optimal, but is possible.

For when you really need that land drop.
Compared to Rift, I feel like not thinning your deck, taking up a slot in your sideboard, and the chance of the "companion" cost sniping a card from an otherwise really good hand seem like good balancing points for this.

Ephara's Ward Instant Choose one— • Target creature gets +2/+2 and gains hexproof until end of turn. • Target player gains 4 life and gains hexproof until end of turn. A take on Sarah's Wings.

This was supposed to be an adaptation of Frontier Explorer, but I realize that it also uses mechanics from Generated Horizons. (Though I technically came up with the idea of land tokens independently, as Mystery Booster didn't come out until almost 7 months after my first use of them.)

My take on the kinfall half of Plane-Merge Elf. I think this is okay for common, right?

So This is my First Attempt at doing one of these contests. I'm basing my submission on Animate Spell. with a bit of inspiration from the imprint mechanic.

I had to second-guess myself a lot on this challenge, and I still wonder if I shouldn't have gone with a different design I had almost finished before giving up on.

Yep- in the end I simply looked for every flaw, some bigger, some smaller, to exclude them one by one until I came to the one where I at least couldn't find something wrong with it at that time- but hey, now we have some other cards already up our sleeve.
