Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our three-hundred and forteenth challenge! The winners of the "Counter Mayhem" poll were Daij_Djan (left) and sade612 (right) with...And the challenge issued by one of our winners was... Ikoria is here and with it its new Mutate mechanic. It's definitely a rather complex mechanic for a Standard legal set, but it's also quite interesting as it only works for non-Human creatures for flavor reasons. Inspired by this, your new challenge is: Design a mechanic interacting / caring about / requiring / similar one or more creatures that excludes one (or up to three at maximum) tribe(s). (The point is to indeed come up with a mechanic, even if it's just a pseudo one, rather than desiging a one-off card like Call to the Grave, f.e.)Have fun, everyone! To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

Question on this: Since we are showing off a mechanic and not a card, can we submit multiple cards to show off the mechanic better? Or can we still only submit one card?

I guess Egg isn't a tribe per se, but I thought it would be fun to do a cost-agnostic Emerge. Dourbird Creature - Bird Flying, deathtouch Hatch (You may cast this spell by sacrificing an Egg and paying its hatch cost.) 1/2

Hope this counts. The idea is to expand upon Boldwyr Intimidator turning your opponent's creatures into cowards and penalizing them. The initial design was cowards can't block ~, but I thought this was a little more indirect and interesting.

I think both of your submissions don't meet the criteria. sade612: Your submission doesn't exclude any creature types. SilentKobold: Your card isn't showing off a mechanic. It's just a card that excludes three creature types.

SilentKobold : Your card isn't showing off a mechanic. It's just a card that excludes three creature types. Yeah I realized that shortly after posting, I started with a sea creature mechanic and it got lost somewhere in the design process . Updated with a new entry.

Hey everyone, just leaving a short notice for now. Have to apologize a bit, I basically came up with this challenge on the fly but afterwards came to realize, it's design space probably is rather narrow - so I decided to widen it up a bit. Design a card featuring a new mechanic which mentions ideally one, but up to three max, specific creature type as part of its rules text. It's still the mechanic itself which has to include the creature type(s). Main post will be updated tomorrow once I have access to my computer again (as I really, really don't want to mess with that post using my smartphone )

I have some more cards to help show off the ability, but I want to make sure I can actually show them off before I disqualify myself.

{Sire <type>}Sire <type> is a somewhat flexible mechanic that allows for non-humans to convert humans into more non-humans. You likely see it on an Innastrad-like plane where various factions all compete to convert humans to their race while humans try to stay safe. I'd think it be a shards plane with the humans as bant, and spirits, vampires, oozes and werewolves for esper, grixis, jund, and naya respectively: If this was on innastrad, there'd probably also be a colorless faction represent by the eldrazi given, recent events.
As a mechanic, it has a bit of interesting interplay with mutate, in that humans becoming non-humans would make them valid targets for mutations.
Here's a common for now, I might whip something else up later.

Possess has quite a bit of design space. The most limiting factor is actually the flavor - it can only go on spirits. I'd love to see something similar to this the next time we visit Innistrad.
Just for fun, here's another card to showcase the possess ability a bit more. This isn't an entry.
Note how possess can be utilized in multiplayer formats here (on your opponents' creatures).

A Blade Splicer from a plane in which humanity has become so obsessed with machinery, that they've become one with it.

It's always bothered me that cards with illustrations featuring riders don't mention the mount in the type line even though they are reflected in the power/toughness, so I've created a mechanic celebrating the creatures that actually do all the work but get no recognition.

@ spazlaz: Just to make sure you know - there already is an Addendum mechanic out there
Then again, who am I to judge considering I'm revamping an older mechanic (if WotC can change Proliferate from one iteration to another..)
