Sorcery Create two 1/1 white Dog Soldier creature tokens, then put a +1/+1 counter on each Soldier you control and untap them. "If you're planning to let slip the dogs of war, make sure to round them all up afterwards." - General Guau

Flo00 Double bark usage in the name! A creature that pees on itself... or chases its own branches? Nice! Tesagk Carnival barker, that's a nice bark reference. I like the concept of giving the opponent a worse option but that it's still something they *might* take. I think 3 damage is too high even with the buyout. I feel like it would have better "harmony" if it was 2's all around. Also the split mana is only like 1/2 a point easier to cast which makes it feel odd. hydraheadhunter Classic use of Bark in a good pairing. There's a lot going on here, but overall it works. The wording on Bite gets a little muddles with "the first creature" and being able to bite a "permanent instead" feels like it isn't needed. thaneofglamis I like the military use of Bark in the name. Dog Soldier are funny to think about what the tokens could look like. That they just happen to get an unneeded untap is a little odd. Winner Flo00

Creature - Human Soldier (Uncommon) Haste, Flash
Ward (X) (X is equal to ~'s toughness)Nova Squad gets +0/+1 for each other creature named Nova Squad that you control. 3/4
Thought of giving it a way to pump its toughness, but I wanted the Black/Red to have a place on the card and, at uncommon rarity, it felt like the card would be doing too much by that point.
Edit: Didn't feel it had the "squad" feel, so I did end up adding a way to increase toughness that I feel like doesn't push the card too much.

Judging! {OldSchool}That is a really powerful rune. I think this would be even strong enough without the +2/+0. It's a nice effect as a creature aura. Attached to an equipment you have repeatable mass damage. Together with something that you can sacrifice creatures into, this is a strong tool for keeping the board small. Should be . {Tesagk}The mana cost is a nice way of conveying the flavour of this being a bunch of people who more or less accidentially cam together to form a squad. The last ability also adds to the flavor. Haste and flash is also a curious combination of abilities, making this good as offensive and defensive card. Ward doesn't seem to be very far from hexproof, making it almost impossible to react to it being flashed onto the battlefield. {melono}A Flame Rift with added planeswalker removal. Nothing too exciting. Works. {winner} OldSchool for an interesting approach to the rune mechanic.

The reason I made the card as a common is because it is a creature dependent card that can potentially wipe many creatures, including your own, so it has in my opinion a huge downside. I could agree that it should at least be uncommon.
Next: Create a card with the word SWORD that isn't an equipment or artifact.

I could agree that it should at least be uncommon. Boardwipes are usually , even if they are damage dependent. It's just really good to blow up the whole board if it gets too crowded. Also it's an effect that's not fun in big numbers, hence . Entry loading...

Next: Create a card with the word SWORD that isn't an equipment or artifact.
Swordwise (1)(R/W)(R/W) Enchantment - Aura Rune (Rare) Enchant permanent As long as enchanted permanent is a creature, it gets +2/+0 and has first strike. If it already has first strike, it has double strike instead. It also has, “ (1)(R/W)(R/W), (T): You may reattach Swordwise to target creature or artifact Equipment.” As long as enchanted permanent is an Equipment, it has, “Equipped creature has +2/+0 and has first strike. If it already has first strike, it has double strike instead.” Artist: Kevin Glint Flavor text which couldn't fit: Those who live by the sword can be protected by it too.

Almost feals like cheating. Almost. Swordstealer Creature - merfolk Rogue When Swordstealer enters the battlefield, gain control of target artifact with converted mana cost 3 or less. If that artifact is an equipment, attach it to Swordstealer. 2/2 Note: You can target your own equipment to just attch it to Swordstealer.

Render will be added once I'm back at my computer: After coming up with the initial concept, final numbers / balancing were based on an updated Deft Duelist.

Cateran Sell-Sword Creature - Human Mercenary Whenever an opponent is dealt combat damage by ~, they may pay 3 life. If they do, they gain control of ~. A Cateran guildmember swayed too easily by his greed, which will eventually cost him the ultimate price.3/3 Inspired by the other mercenaries from magic (with Spiteful Bully being a big one).

Rakdos Swordswallower Three red or three black Sacrifice an artifact: deal 2 damage to any target. Sacrifice three artifacts: deal damage to any target equal to the sum of the sacrificed artifacts mana value. FT: The most entertaining part of the act is when the swords they swallowed get spat, blade first, into the audience. 1/2

Judging! melono wins because the idea of a creature that changes allegiance until you can no longer pay for it and goes "Sorry, you can't afford me anymore" and stabs you in the back makes me giggle like a little girl.

Not today - but I'll gladly take care of it tomorrow Edit: This challenge is now closed - please no further changes of entries! Edit 2: And here we go: { Flo00} Green for the colorshifted Strip Bare, black for the toughness reduction – like it! Now that I think of it, I'd love for black to use this “setting toughness to 1 for a turn” on real cards.. { Tesagk} I like white's ability to move damage around, so I definitely like the idea of a modern take on Oracle's Attendants. Adding the stat change is a nice flavor and gameplay choice – also I really like the added Vigilance. { ZephyrPhantom} I've actually pondered about granting hexproof to spells once in the past, and I like it as a really unique Counterspell counterspell. It does feel a bit niche, though? { sdfkjgh} This reminds me of Hindering Light – in a good way. Nice way of using ability counters for sure – it might be costed a bit too agressively, though. { hydraheadhunter} Just to clarify – is the cost supposed to mean or ? Also missing rarity. But anyway, I'm a big fan of trample over planeswalkers and the concept of only doubling the trample damage exclusively is pretty cool. { viriss} It took me a second read to not confuse the ability with this one, but once I could wrap my head around it, I really liked it. Very unique discard as well as mill hate – also rightfully put at rare.. {And the winner is..} Wow seriously – I really like all five entries for this challenge. Great work, everyone! Sadly, I have to announce a winner nethertheless; so the win goes to Flo00! Honestly, I really don't want to pick a runner-up
