Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and seventy-eighth challenge! The winner of the "The Good Ol' Days" poll was augur with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... However strong or weak your inner Timmy/Tammy is, sometimes you just have to let it loose. Design a card with converted mana cost seven or greater! To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

This is the design they should've done instead of Aetherworks Marvel:
Aether Gorger Creature--Gremlin As an additional cost to cast Aether Gorger, you may pay any amount of . For each spent this way, Aether Gorger costs less to cast and enters the battlefield with an additional +1/+1 counter on it. Trample, haste 1/1

It's a little difficult to gauge how powerful this is, since you need other cards that can make your life total go down for it to be any good. But played right, it can be really good.

Turn 1 OTK: Swamp, Dark Ritual x3, Black Hole. Sweet. But the usual case is going to be Turn 7: opponent casts a Colossal Dreadmaw or whatever bomb they just topdecked and you cremate it. Also a clever response to Aura spells. Might create a variant of Storm without Past In Flames.

sade612, why flash sorcery and not instant though?

This card is from Gobakhan, the plane that newcomer Teyo Verada calls home. I would have liked to source more Middle Eastern-type art--what if Gobakhan becomes the new Rabiah?--but nothing came up. Since we know very little about Gobakhan, I wanted to make a card that highlighted what we DO know. There are definitely monks in W, and because of the nature of life on Gobakhan, they train hard to protect one another--hence Gobakhani Mystic's first ability protecting you (and itself) from noncombat damage. You can't exactly get in a fight with a sandstorm. It's also true that Teyo's card creates a creature token with more toughness than power, so I wanted a card that could synergize with it reasonably well. Those Wall tokens still can't attack if you only have the Mystic on the field, but it's still an important piece of the puzzle that is dealing damage with defenders.
Gobakhani Mystic also improves your potential damage output than, say, Assault Formation, since creatures with greater power than toughness are still able to swing in for their printed value. Lastly, I think I did a fair job of balancing the Mystic's butt-pump (+0/+X, get your mind out of the gutter), since you need to pay an additional 2W for it to benefit from its own second ability. Remember, creatures with equal power and toughness still assign damage equal to their power! I don't consider this a flaw in the design--flavorfully, it protects others; mechanically, it doesn't die to bolt. That's important!!

I've been looking for an excuse to use an r/ImaginaryWorldEater image. I really don't like hexproof + indestructible being a thing this does, especially since it already mitigates a lot of removal by bringing everyone down to one mana. It also makes this way harder to deal with than it already is if it's reanimated. IMO either drop the hexproof or maybe implement an anti-reanimation clause of some sorts. Spare Instant Target creature you control gains indestructible until end of turn. Draw a card. //// Strike Sorcery Destroy target creature. Its controller discards a card. Riffs on Spares and Strikes in Bowling, and the actual definitions of Spare (to show mercy) and Strike (to attack someone).

Beloved Brontodon Creature — Dinosaur Reach, trample When Beloved Brontodon enters the battlefield, put X +1/+1 counters on it, where X is the greatest power among creatures you control. Jackson wished for nothing more than to see his dinosaur grow big and strong. His neighbors wished otherwise.3/3

I initially struggled with this, but then I remembered the mechanic Council's Dilemma and wanted to create a high powered spell around that. Fun fact, there is no red Council's dilemma card! I'm not quite sure if I got the wording down for the card, but it was a lot of fun to design and do some theoretical number crunching. I implore you to see just how bad the outcome could get with too many people want to keep their lands. So I present to you, for all the people who just want to see the world burn, Natures' Arsonists.

Yeah, I just figured a big creature should be hard to kill, and wanted to be sure to include each color, but I think Demiurgon's wrath ability fits White just fine. Hexproof already makes things like this hard to kill.

I'd say this looks broken as [censored], but my own card hits that territory too. Such is the nature of the challenge

sade612 , why flash sorcery and not instant though? It reads more cleanly, IMO (much like YMD date formats).

Seems like a very roundabout way to nerf a few cards. Wouldn't house bans on some of the support cards be a lot more practical? Or even house oracle changes, as much as I'm not a fan of that.

Well, to be fair MaRo has stated a few times as well, if there is one thing he could change from Magic's origins, he would remove instants for the sake of sorceries with Flash (I think he was talking about the mechanic rather than a new supertype, though) just to get rid of a redundant card type.

I remember reading that as well, but it's practically impossible to change that now, and I really don't think Mark Rosewater, or really anyone at WotC, would want to change it now. We're way past the point of no return.

Yeah, but the wording for flash specifically invokes instant spells to describe itself.
