This one's simmered for long enough. Judging: A fine common with an interesting combination of types. The flavor is also very intriguing. I like the hints at the world these merfolk live on. Learning is comparable in power to drawing a card - Lessons aren't incredibly strong, but you always get the exact one that you need when you learn. Learning as magecraft would probably bump this up to mana value 4 alone, not to mention its other abilities. The sideboard ability would probably never be printed in real life - I'm not sure if being able to affect the sideboard in that way is allowed. Is it meant to let you play more than four of a Lesson, or let you put as many copies of every Lesson in your sideboard as you own? Also, it would need to be active from before the game starts - something like "As long as ~ is in your starting deck..." I like it! A 4/1 with first strike is strong in limited, but it's not an instant win, and it's vulnerable to basically any sort of removal. 2 cmc might be too low, but it's Gruul, it wants to attack, so there's counterplay. I have to say... this one's confusing. I'm not sure what that ability is there for. You can already flash it in to block something, like any flash creature. Making it tap to block is strange as well. It might confuse new players, since thinking you need to tap to block is a common mistake among greenhorns. viriss - Eddi "Fastpalm" SprocketVery fun and super flavorful, with adorable art. Unfortunately, the mechanics are pretty lackluster. Not only does your opponent have to be playing equipment that you want, but you can only attach them to Eddi, and only if you win a coin flip. Its use is just too narrow to justify running this in any deck. It's also a little strange that Eddi doesn't have a race...

Thanks! Your next challenge is to take a creature type with 5 or less cards dedicated to it (e.g. Assembly Worker) and make a powerful card that helps you play as many of them as possible. The more likely you can play the tribe in some hypothetical Standard/competitive context, the better. Good luck! EDIT: Some helpful resources: # creatures in a creature type as of Zendikar Rising (Thanks Flo00) Other creatures with 5 or less... (not a complete list) Clamfolk, Mouse, Lammasu, Eye, Pest, Brushwagg, Volver, Nephilim, Beeble, Bringer, Aurochs, Orgg Really close to 5 Slith, Peasant, Hippo, Egg

thaneofglamis: I intended it to mean both of your stated interpretations, with one small difference in the second one: replace own with want.
ZephyrPhantom: Any chance you have some special search-fu knowledge you could impart to us to help us find the relevant creature types on Scryfall?

ZephyrPhantom: Any chance you have some special search-fu knowledge you could impart to us to help us find the relevant creature types on Scryfall? Sorry, I've got no idea there. If you do accidentally pick a creature type with too many I'm willing to cut some slack (but don't use this as an excuse to push an entry for something like Cats or Dogs.)

If anyone's interested, I could pull up a list of the available types, but I don't think we really need one. For now, here's my entry:
Creature - Surrakar Warlock When ~ enters the battlefield, you may return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand. If a Surrakar card is returned this way, put a +1/+1 counter on ~. Whenever a Surrakar you control deals combat damage to a player, you draw a card and you lose 1 life. 0/4

Lonely Aurochs Creature - Aurochs Trample When ~ enters the battlefield, look at the top card of your library. If it’s an Aurochs card, you may reveal it and put it into your hand. Whenever ~ attacks, it gets +1/+0 until end of turn for each other attacking Aurochs. 2/2 The missing 3-drop Aurochs for your Auroch pauper deck. And because I read the challenge wrong at first, have the one-drop as well: {Spoiler} Calf Aurochs Creature - Aurochs Trample Whenever ~ attacks, it gets +1/+0 until end of turn for each other attacking Aurochs. Whenever ~ attacks, other attacking Aurochs get +0/+1 until end of turn. 0/2 The one-drop Auroch that all Auroch Pauper decks desire. (thanks for the creature list viriss )

Good thing I had this old thing:
Swaggbrush the Maggnificent Legendary Creature--Brushwagg Vigilance, haste All creatures on the battlefield are Brushwaggs instead of their other types. Brushwagg creatures your team controls have trample, hexproof, and “Whenever this creature blocks a creature or becomes blocked by a creature, it gets +5/+5 until end of turn.” Whenever an opponent casts a non-Brushwagg spell, you may have target player create a 3/2 green Brushwagg creature token with “Whenever this creature blocks or becomes blocked, it gets -2/+2 until end of turn.” 4/5
EDIT: Thanks, gamma3.

Someone once linked to this on a similar challenge. I guess it helps with ideas. Bringer of the Night Artifact Creature - Bringer You may pay rather than pay this spell’s mana cost. Bringer of the Night and other Bringer creatures you control enter the battlefield with five +1/+1 counters on them if five or less mana was spent to cast them. 5/5 Opens up not only to paying the alternative cost, but also other cheat-into-play shenanigans.

Someone once linked to this on a similar challenge. I guess it helps with ideas. To be honest I was inspired by someone who made a similar list for Morophon usage but that seems to have disapperaed, so I'm glad there's an alternative resource. I'll add this to the challenge prompt.

Mishra's Walking Assembly Station Artifact Creature - Assembly-Worker , Tap two untapped Assembly-Worker Creatures: Put a token copy of another target artifact into play tapped. The perfect factory can make its own workers3/7 Alternatively, something with an un-block flavor: {Alt-Card}Mishra's Self-Assembling-Replicator Assembly-Worker Rigger Artifact Creature - Assembly-Worker , : Create an artifact token with " , , Sacrifice this artifact: Put a token copy of target artifact you control into play." Let's wrap this up. viriss - A neat mono-red card that encourages you to play more permanent weenies like Monastery Swiftspear or Robber of the Rich that would stick around and make this hit harder, and does technically promote playing other Red Demigods. It feels like it was more overall focused on being a Captain Lannery Storm sidegrade but it does definitely meet the power level for being played in Standard. thaneofglamis - Surrakar do like to swing for the hills, so I think the choices of graveyard recursion and rewarding attacking are smart choices. I'm trying to imagine if you could run this, Surrakar Marauder, and Surrakar Spellblade to get something threatening off the ground, and my guess is that this needs to cost 1 mana less to really start pushing Surrakar as a tribe. I think costing it at 3 and making it a rare akin to Realmwalker would've been a better call - Surrakar doesn't exactly have any standouts in their tribe already, so a card to support them can be pushed to pick up the slack. Nonagon Infinity - I'm surprised more people didn't look into obscure token types, and when I do think of it playing tokens repeatedly is one way to interpret "playing as many as possible". This feels reminiscent of Geist of Saint Traft but a little slower and more battlecruiser-y, presumably to make it a more casual Commander. I think moving the P/T and cost around to resemble Traft might've helped make this fit the prompt more, but as is it's a pretty interesting design and makes me at least somewhat interested in your take on Orange mana. Was the template a custom edit? melono - The one-drop seems super pushed for a Common and even if you were laser-targeting it at Pauper I don't think WoTC would have printed it below , haha. That aside, I think you have a nice clean answer to the prompt. Aurochs have always given these incentives to play them but never feel efficient or advantageous enough in value to really ever get there as a tribe. A solid pseudo-cantripping body that continues to contribute even after being played seems very much like what this tribe needs. I also appreciate that you deliberately chose mana costs not yet covered by Aurochs on their curve. sdfkjgh - Type-hosing is not a bad idea for a gimmick card like this as Plague Engineer shows even the simplest ways to mess up tribes can make things very messy for them in a meta. It's a very technically-correct answer since it doesn't exactly push for the playing of more Brushwaggs (and realistically I think this would mostly just get run in any deck running good creatures or tokens as opposed to a Brushwagg theme deck) but it does come down and demand to be immediately answered otherwise the game ends, and like most good finishers it replaces itself if the opponent tries to mess with it. I'll say it technically works out since it's efficient enough to likely see play in a decent number of decks, even if it doesn't necessarily bring its other tribe cards with it. Flo00 - Another viable lord for Morophon/Bringer tribal in addition to Morophon, the Boundless and with perfect synergy no less. I think this one is particularly effective as it fits perfectly into the existing combo/strategy of playing Tron + Morophon to cheat out bringers and helps provide redundant nonlegendary lord copies that help make the deck more consistent. Answers both parts of the prompt very well. spruder - Cool idea but a bit slow. I also feel like most artifact strategies tend to care more about playing two synergistic/cheatable artifacts (e.g. Master Transmuter + Blightsteel Colossus) than copying one. Maybe it should've been closer to something like Oran-Rief Invoker - something you play for cheap, and then get to expensively copy stuff with later? hydraheadhunter - An efficient Aristocrats-type sac outlet reminscient of Viscera Seer. I'm pretty sure this would be strong in the same way Cat Oven decks were at least, but it does seem to support the types mentioned in its ability more than it supports Badgers. It's a cool card though and I would play it. 1st: Flo00 - Lots of good entries but only a few really answered the entire prompt. I'd say your card did this very well especially because it pushes an existing strategy that probably needs just a few more cards (like this one) to really have legs. 2nd: melono - A really good answer to the prompt that helps push to revitalize an underpowered tribe. 3rd: sdfkjgh - A very technically correct entry but I can see it actually pushing Brushwaggs into the spotlight so I'll give credit for that.

Next challenge: I've said it more than once, I wish Guardian was a creature type (again). Let's see how many of you agree and come up with a good Guardian.

Cue the mashup:
Royal Bodyguard Creature--Elephant Guardian Hexproof Royal Bodyguard has indestructible as long as you’re the monarch and vigilance as long as you aren’t the monarch. As Royal Bodyguard enters the battlefield, you become the monarch. Whenever Royal Bodyguard blocks a creature, it gets +X/+X until end of turn, where X is that creature’s power. : Put X +1/+1 counters on Royal Bodyguard. Activate this ability only if you’re the monarch, and only once per turn for each time Royal Bodyguard blocked this turn. 0/1
Note: Since all Xs have to be linked, if this blocks more than once in one turn, the s of each activation that turn may be of different values.

Temple Keeper A generic and two blue Creature - gaurdian fish
Whenever a creature deals damage to Temple keeper, tap that creature. It doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step. Two generic and a green: target creature fights Temple Keeper.

I might judge this in about 12 hours. If I don't manage to do this, I probably won't do it before friday. EDIT: Or I'll do it between Wednesday and Thursday, whatever... {sdfkjgh}Short feedback: tl;dr Longer feedback: This is a bit overloaded with abilities. I copypasted it on a card and it's 10 lines of text. That's more than double wordy! Heyproof on a white creature is very out of color pie. Also I think the vigilance part can be omitted. It's a 0/1, why does it need vigilance??? I know there are 1/1s with trample, but they are not overloaded with other abilities. The activation could be very cleaner as part of the trigger. Something like Whenever Royal Bodyguard blocks a creature, it gets +X/+X until end of turn, where X is that creature’s power and you may pay . If you do, ... On the upside it is undisputible a good guardian. {hydraheadhunter}Simple and effective. I like how the second ability has some kind of double purpose. It can kill small creatures and also tap down big guys. It's a very agressive guardian and maybe a bit too efficient at also tapping down potential blockers. Also, I'm a big fan of pseudoo multicolor cards.
{lordpat}That's an interesting set of creature types. I like how this is so much less abusable (and more expensive) than a Crucible of Worlds/ Ramunap Excavator and still strong in its own right.

Flo00: The reason for the vigilance is so you can get the monarch back if you lost it. Even just one activation of its activated ability gives it a permanent boost, so unless it's never blocked, it's never just a 0/1.
hydraheadhunter:
Raging Cockatrice Creature--Cockatrice Flying, deathtouch, deathtouch for planeswalkers, haste, aggressor (This creature must attack each combat if able.) Whenever Raging Cockatrice attacks, you may pay . If you do, it fights target creature or planeswalker. (Planeswalkers fight using their current loyalty.) Whenever a creature or planeswalker dealt damage by Raging Cockatrice this turn dies, put a +1/+1 counter on Raging Cockatrice. 1/5

Feljhorn, Ancient Cavedweller Legendary Creature - Elder Cockatrice Deathouch, flying, ward When Feljhorn enters the battlefield, create a Feljhorn's Gaze enchantment aura token with "Enchant creature" and "Enchanted creature can't attack and its activated abilities can't be activated". Attatch it to a creature you don't' control. Whenever Feljhorn attacks, draw X cards and gain X life, where X is the number of auras you control attatched to permaments you don't control. 5/5 EDIT: Changed it a bit. Previous templating didn't work I'm pretty sure. Also made it a bit stronger.
