The situation was strange, and rather like that of a setup. Given the circumstances of how Atlani had come to be here, it stood to reason however that the one opposite of her was here under similar circumstances. Caution was, for the moment, a correct response, and they might have happily continued their conversation in peace... Were it not for the fact that between them, the tide had begun to retreat, specifically in the narrow bit of coastline that stood between them. The water pulled further and further back, soon forming a clear delineation between the sea on Atalani's side and the sea on the stranger's side. Caution was prudent indeed... The waves parted, though only to a point a few dozen feet from the shore, leaving both with the site of an exposed floor of the sand beneath the waves. The display did not end there however, as some...mass of material emerged from behind the water where the opening ended, slowly walking up towards the shore. Volition Miser: 8/10. A very weird and specific anti-Wall. Works well with the conjure tho. Fleur Mira was no longer the most concerning thing here. Atlani snapped into a defensive stance, hand on her blade as soon as the water moved, scanning for whatever monster lay below, but relaxed upon realizing she was not about to be attacked. As the golem approached, she wandered closer to Mira to look down into the valley between the waves. "I suppose you also have no clue what's down there?"She put the compass into a small pouch on her belt and signaled for Nai to stay put."Well, Miss 'Field Researcher' Mira. Would you like to be in front or behind?"
Atlani's final preparation was to cast a quick spell on herself, after which a few thin, feint, green lines dart back and forth across her body.
Detritus Ward Instant Put a hexproof counter and a +1/+1 counter on target creature. Prevent all damage that would be dealt to it this turn.
Ugh, 2 feels too cheap but 3 feels like too much.

Conjure: Arcane Lighthouse, removing that pesky hexproof. For now. - Consider these targets to be conceptual things, whatever you're targeting with your Detritus Wards. Detritus Ward: Snakeskin Veil is the epitome of this effect, so I think this is fine. We have seen some cards recently offer support for this, but usually on the creature end and not the trick end, and this feels like it's not going to be used very often, even with the powerful (temporary) effect. This would need a very specific environment to work in my opinion, and I'd love to see what that looks like. 6/10, it works, it's just not a design I'd expect to see soon. Perilous Researcher: 8/10. Saboteurs are fun to make work, since they often get very little support in the sets they're printed in. This one I like since it's aggressive, but in ways that are very blue and I enjoy that.

And given the compasses, it seems she, or her master, would like a word."Atlani, of Burning Praxis Legendary Creature - Human Warrior First strike, haste Whenever ~ attacks, other attacking creatures get +1/+0 and gain menace until end of turn. 3/2 "Charge ahead! Let none of these accursed beasts survive." "Someone who has killed dozens?" There's a brief pondering of whether this descending into such a situation is worth it or if it would detract from her goals. But, the benthic beings here bore some resemblance to the monsters that plagued her world. If she could figure out how to combat whatever was here, then maybe it would help. Plus, there would be time to gather notes later anyways. Ultimately, if there was something here that could help, she could not live with the possibility of simply leaving that behind. "Then let us proceed with caution," Mira says. "I gather you know this ship's owner better than I, so lead the way. I'm right behind you." Mira then casts a spell. If Atlani permits, she feels herself surrounded by a veil of tendrils that slow time around her. If something were to come near her or try to strike her, it would slow to a crawl - slow enough for Atlani to react to it. Veil in Entropy Instant Devoid (This card has no color.)
Counter target spell. If that spell is countered this way, exile it instead of putting it into that player's graveyard. For as long that spell is exiled, its controller may cast for , where X is twice that spell's mana value. By rending time itself, the Eldrazi render moments meaningless. Conqueror's Anathema: I'm down for this. A one-turn Dread effect with a bit of a punisher element seems neat, though perhaps a bit too backbreaking at uncommon. I do like the design very much, so 9/10.

Fleur pacifistwestwomanThe golem ends its journey at the edge of the wrecked vessel, standing adjacent to a conspicuous hole in the hull. One might question the ability of the vessel, beyond ruin as it was, to withstand the weight of the creature currently laying dead on top of it, but for the moment it seemed neither were about to invoke gravity on the other. Needless to say, the ruined hull that had been the Crownwell, would remain for a time longer. The hovering invitation to venture further in, when accepted, would lead the two to a single 'room' within the space. Underwater, unsurprisingly, though not surprising was the presence of the ship's former captain, currently sitting with her boots up to what had once been the desk within her personal quarters. There was little other signs of her wealth within the room, save for a single locked chest behind her, and the personal effects she had left. Needless to say, she did not appear to be in a good mood. "Do come in. I'd say you might want to wipe your boots, but given we're underwater..." Neither of her two visitors had ever met Kadri in person, but this did not seem to be the personality of someone who had only until recently, pillaged and raided coastal settlements for a living. Her patron was also nowhere in sight... Follow Through Instant Follow Through costs less to cast if an opponent cast a noncreature spell this turn. Destroy target creature. Its controller loses 3 life. “I don’t have time for idle threats.” Atlani, Burning Praxis: Sure. 8/10. Nothing particularly worrisome about this design, double red and multicolor makes this technically prohibitive. Veil in Entropy: 7/10. This is effectively a hard counter for large spells and soft counters for small ones, which, to be fair, is not a strict negative, but the differing cases this causes might raise some concerns. This might be better served by a strict +N penalty, like Elite Spellbinder.

Follow Through: 8/10. Interesting way to punish casting noncreature spells, but the version of this that costs 5 is too much, I think. "Perhaps I do, though that wouldn't be saying much. We've never properly met, and I've only seen her once." Atlani jumps at the spell being cast on her, though quickly realizes it's not malicious, and calms. Upon reaching the vessel, she peers inside. "Do come in. I'd say you might want to wipe your boots, but given we're underwater..." "Were we not, I would, for what that's worth." She enters, trying to pretend this is a normal situation. She scans the room before taking time to try to admire what may have once been considered beautiful among the wreckage. "A shame."

Neither of her two visitors had ever met Kadri in person, but this did not seem to be the personality of someone who had only until recently, pillaged and raided coastal settlements for a living. Her patron was also nowhere in sight... The situation is confusing and unusual, to say the least. Hundreds of feet underwater with a stranger. Why did this stranger bring her here? At least, she assumed that this ship's captain was the one who brought them to the ship. That's what would make logical sense, anyways. "Wait, so, why have you brought us here?" In the back of her mind, she's also aware of the possibility that they would have nowhere to run if things went sour, especially not in the depths of the ocean. At least for Mira, her sense of direction was already lackluster, and existing in a space where you could go north, south, east, west, up, or down was not doing that any favors. Intrusive Inquiry Sorcery Draw two cards. If a creature you control dealt damage to a player this turn, instead look at the top four cards of your library. Put two in your hand and the rest in your graveyard. Rating: I wanna say this can be given the upside we've seen on two-colored removal spells in the past? I do like the idea though and it's definitely still a functional/printable card in its current iteration, so 8/10.

Fleur pacifistwestwoman "I tire of this place." It was simple statement, although once more unusual for someone who'd been happily raiding it's coast for much of recent memory. "But leaving loose ends would only strain the already terrible relation I'm having with my envoy, who, in case you were curious, is elsewhere at the moment." There was a subtle difference between the Kadri in the feared rumors and the one sitting before them. "To that extent, I require information. That, and someone willing to assist me in cleaning up after Kadri here." Somewhere else, an innocuous chest sat at the bottom of a harbor, collecting seawater and time before someone found it. Someone unaware of what was within... "That apothecary, for example. Kadri technically required me to assist her in dealing with her, which isn't an issue if she's no longer within the locality, if you understand what I mean." Maevah, Pelagic Tyrant Legendary Creature - Spirit Noble Flash When Maevah, Pelagic Tyrant enters the battlefield, gain control of target creature or planeswalker for as long as you control Maevah, then tap that permanent. It's fine. 7/10Intrusive Inquiry: Weird pseudo-saboteur/Raid, the latter of which is easier to evaluate this card by since it's technically similar requirements. I think the complexity this represents is comparable to Chart a Course, which is uncommon. Of course the payoff is options, versus strict advantage, so it's a different set of weights here. Overall though, I think CaC does this thing better. 7/10

pacifistwestwoman She nods to the warrior, her face unchanging, but the energy in the room seemed to ease away from the tenseness of before. "You'll find what remains of this vessel in the harbor where it was destroyed. If you're fortunate, it hasn't been touched yet. I don't care what's left behind in terms of valuables, just remove what's left of the ship, cast it into the ocean preferably. It'll find its way to me. Keep whatever else you find."A Matter of Pride Instant Target creature you control gains indestructible until end of turn. If it’s the only attacking or blocking creature you control, it gets +2/+0 and gains lifelink until end of turn. Duskwater Cleaner: Should probably be uncommon, making a treasure at common on entry is likely too fast for black, most of these die first, such as Dire Fleet Hoarder, and red which does have this at common is more expensive. The complexity of the deathtouch is also worrisome, and is a red flag. 6/10, just needs a rarity upshift. Fleur Her attention turned to the researcher, the interest appearing on the pirate's face at the mention of beasts similar to the leviathan. "Our intuition, Kadri's as well, tells me you're not simply interested in the average leviathan. Though I might be able to assist you, if you speak of what I believe you are." She thinks for a moment, ruminating on the exchange, before nodding and focusing back on Mira. "I intend to perform a summoning before I depart. The beings I cavort with are not the kind you seek, but I imagine my methods may provide some insight into your enemy. Assist me, and you'll gleam knowledge that will assist your efforts."Abyssal WasteLand , : Add . You lose 1 life. A waste need not be devoid of life to hold the power of nothing. This is both a hand attack and a steal, and should be more difficult to splash, even with the colorless to cast the stolen card method. I'd say this is more deserving of rare, but against mirror-color matches this card is exceeding brutal and effective. In lieu of costing double black, it might just want to have a higher mana value total. 5/10

Her attention turned to the researcher, the interest appearing on the pirate's face at the mention of beasts similar to the leviathan. Assist me, and you'll gleam knowledge that will assist your efforts."The pirate looked to both of them expectantly, the terms and agreements on the metaphorical table in full. "Are all parties satisfied?"
Mira nods. "You seem to know quite a lot, then. It's a deal. Is there anything I should do to prepare for this summoning? I'm not sure about her, but I for one am satisfied with these terms." Introduction to Liquidation Sorcery - Lesson Target player sacrifices a nontoken, nonland permanent, then creates two Treasure tokens. (They're artifact tokens with ", Sacrifice this: Add one mana of any color.) "Today, we'll be learning about assets that go far beyond the arcane." -Barris, Historian of Mercantile Abyssal Waste: I know this filters to colorless, but I don't think that in and of itself is worth paying 1 life for + flexibility. This could almost certainly tap for innately. 6/10

pacifistwestwoman She nods to the warrior, her face unchanging, but the energy in the room seemed to ease away from the tenseness of before.
A Matter of Pride: 10/10. And here I thought I was the only one doing exalted. Atlani seems confused, having assumed mercenary work instead of manual labor, then displeased that there was no mention of certain payment, though remains respectful due to an acute understanding of the situation: Worst case scenario, Maevah simply dispels Atlani's waterbreathing and leaves her to drown. "And if there's nothing left?"Aggressive Rebellion
Sorcery Gain control of target creature until end of turn. Untap it. It gets +3/-1 until end of turn.

In the port city, life is returning to normal after the ramming of the Crownwell, as much as it can on the Arena. Ships are moving again. The docks are being slowly rebuilt. Gleaming rifts reopen from the fight that had taken place there. People had moved back to their homes. The rifts turned black as the sea floor. Some citizens take notice. Some simply flee. Some take up arms. Black liquid spills out from the rift.
A tentacle shoots out and grabs a curious onlooker by the throat. The black liquid spills faster as the octopus monstrosity forces its way across the planes.
Note: Reinforcements will be on the way for characters that need them

She was falling. The Unnamed had gotten its fill, enough at least to transport both herself and Maevah through the space between worlds, but she could feel the discontentment as they traveled, somewhere, anywhere but where they had been. It hungered in the back of her mind as she tried to suck up the pain of that assassin’s parting shot. Maevah had nothing to say, uncharacteristically, but she’d likely hear a mouthful when they arrived…somewhere. She hadn’t thought of a destination, nor had Maevah had one in mind either. Kadri considered letting the currents take her where they pleased, but the hunger of the Unnamed grew in the back of her mind. No, risking their attention now was inadvisable to her long-term health. There was only one destination then, and she hadn’t been there in a long, long time It was time to go home. Kadri Blueswale has left the arena.

From nowhere, as is usual on the Arena, a traveler appears with strange technology and a fascination for the plane’s endless landscape. Overheard from his self-conversations are words — settlement, cultivation, and sustainability, to name a few — that hint at his plans, and he appears eager to proceed. What is this new arrival up to? Arandu of the New Way has joined the Arena.

A tentacle shoots out and grabs a curious onlooker by the throat. The black liquid spills faster as the octopus monstrosity forces its way across the planes.
Note: Reinforcements will be on the way for characters that need them From somewhere within the village, a strange traveler notices the rifts, frowning as they shifted to a threatening black. When one of them suddenly sprouts a tentacle and begins to throttle a nearby man, he quickly moves into action. "This plane was just starting to look peaceful enough," he mutters to himself. From beneath his cloak, he pulls out a capsule, and crushes it in his hand. The material at first cracks, then begins to flow around his hand, soon forming into a series of curved, flat blades in a circular formation, attached to what quickly forms into a handle and barrel. The man points it at the tentacle, and the man currently in its grip, and takes aim. "Apologies, it's the first thing I thought of."Pulling the trigger, the blades begin to spin rapidly, creating a torrent of air strong enough to loosen the man from the tentacle's grip, and hopefully prevent any of that dangerous ooze from congealing on the ground. Surge of Air Instant Tap up to three target creatures. Scry 1. “The wind has always wielded great power, and now we may share in its strength.” — Yvytu, Seer of Breezes Rest is for the Dead: 7/10. It's fine I suppose. I don't have any immediate feelings about it or its power.

Scry 1. “The wind has always wielded great power, and now we may share in its strength.” — Yvytu, Seer of BreezesThe air amid the whirl of blades throws the man off his feet, but at least out of the tentacle's grasp. The air pushes and pushes at the squid, keeping it at bay until there is a faint squishing sound, and it seems to give up. The black liquid continues pouring, spreading out wider with the device's assistance.
A large grey crab leg punches through the rift, then pauses. It is followed by the bottom of a wicked claw, which jerks upward, shearing the rift higher into the air. The path widened, the crab creature scuttles across the planes with alarming speed. Each of the creature's legs are as tall as the fleeing citizens as the crab snaps up whatever life or structure it can between its one large claw and one smaller one. And as it eats, it begins to grow larger before their eyes... Surge of Air - cost seems about right 8/10

cajun "I see. Guess they were right about the crabs."Arandu hurried after the crab as it scuttled across the village, pulling another capsule from underneath his cloak and crushing it in the same manner as before. The material began to attach itself to the device in his hands, before it began shifting, the circle of blades stretching backwards as an exterior shell formed to cover them, while the rest of the material sunk into the interior of the barrel, slowly widening until it was half a foot in width at the widest. When the transmutation was nearly complete, Arandu licked his thumb and pressed near a seem between the shell at the front of the device and the widened stock, and a humming noise and the faint smell of ozone seeped into the air as the device lit up at one end. "I hate cheating with aether, but it's really just the best in a pinch."His new tool ready, Arandu aimed the device at the crab from another plane, the turbine inside the shell winding up in speed momentarily, before it discharged. A pulse of aether-fueled wind aimed directly at the rampaging crustacean, which if he'd done it correctly, would not only incapacitate it, but also disperse it back into the Blind Eternities.Hasty Expulsion Sorcery Return target nonland permanent to its owner’s hand. It takes precious time to line up the perfect shot against the growing crab, but the patience is well rewarded. The aether caster fires and catches the scrambling crab straight in the face. Where the wind hits, the creature dissolves away rapidly, the failing spell more slowly spreading across the rest of the creature.
For a moment, things are quiet.
While Arandu had been turned to the crab, the squid had pulled itself back to the Arena and flopped into the still spilling liquid. Wood, stone, and steel drifted across the puddle towards the rift as a glow began to consume it all...
There is a groaning of material as it pulls itself together into a shell around the fusion. Ten gooey appendages poke in and out of the more solid armor. The limbs quickly reposition, what seemed like heads now seeming more like legs as the creature runs for Arandu. As the winds begin, it will drop into the shell to protect itself from simple air and aether. Hasty Expulsion - hmm, canister seems like its probably worth more than one mana (since that's the floor) but its restriction is real. my gut is that its a little too cheap, but that its probably not as powerful as Callous Dismissal in limited so maybe its fine? iunno. 8/10

cajun "...I think it's time for us to leave." Arandu turns to anyone else nearby as he begins to run, holding his device with both hands as it began to shift once more, the shell that had housed the miniature turbine beginning to shift once more. Slats opened in the shell as the blades pushed out from within, then slowly arched back towards the rear of the device. The crackling of aether began once more as the device reached its final shape, and Arandu stopped to look back at the monstrosity of a snail. "Everyone still alive, head towards the river up the hill! I'll get you out of here, let me deal with this!" He hoped at least one person had heard him as he aimed towards horror heading right for him, and fired.Shellpierce Instant As an additional cost to cast this spell, pay or sacrifice an artifact. Destroy target creature with toughness 4 or greater. “If that was impressive, imagine what a real one could do.” Conjure: Evacuation, to deal with the tokens lying around. The base of the device cracked and shattered as the head launched forth, the turbine blades trailing aether behind them, then suddenly folded forward, and were the first part of the projectile to strike the shell of the creature. With the aether augmenting their sharpness, Arandu estimated they'd be able to pierce just enough for the next part.
The next part being the projectile exploding in shrapnel, with much of the detonation directed towards the snail in order to expose its innards to further damage."I hate making weapons," Arandu muttered, the remains of the device he was still holding cracking, then shifting back into what amounted to half of a capsule, which he stowed underneath back underneath his cloak. Hoping the creature was finished, he turned around and headed towards the river to catch up with any survivors." That Which Never Surrenders: Yeah this does need that clause "without coalesce" to not be really strong, I think it's cool. Cloning stuff usually feels rare, but this is specific enough in its cost it's passable. 7/10.

The piercing round punches through a rotted plank amid the hasty shell, then explodes again, turning the protective armor into a shredding shield. The shell tumbles aside as the mass holding it up dissolves away.
The surviving separated heads try to struggle away. A pole weapon stabs through them, one by one as Arandu leads the evacuation. The robot wielding it turns back to the rift, jumping the great height and snagging the top of the rift with the pole, slowly falling back to the ground as the rift seals back shut.
As Arandu leaves, he may notice another rift growing ever taller on the horizon...

A big black cat with a big black sword tied to his back sneaks around the encampment. He has a devious look in his face, and is clearly interested by the strange materials that compose the tent. He grabs his sword, and it transforms into a small knife, which the cat uses to poke the tent, awiting to see how the strange substance reacts.Knife Thrust Sorcery ~ deals 2 damage to target creature or planeswalker. If it's an artifact or a token, draw a card.
