mrlozano I eye his "security system" - looked a bit more sinister to me. Whatever it is, I don't want it out of that glass jar. Then the kid sticks his hand in it - what a quack. "Can the Mirage come inside of other things?" Could be. Usually how you transfer drugs. This kid was a merchant? "Sure can, slick - same as any other powder. Only thing is, it came inside of that cracked stone for you, didn't it? Kinda hard to smuggle that in something, but not impossible." I took a notepad out and began to scribble, before a voice came from my doorway behind Rixos. "I might know something about where that Mirage came from." I smirked as I kept writing. Only one lady I knew had that mesmerizing cadence.Vivien, Detective's Assistant Legendary Creature - Human Rogue Flash When ~ enters the battlefield, you may copy target instant or sorcery spell. If you do, you may choose new targets for the copy. "At your service."2/1 --- Behind Rixos stands a woman in similar detective-wear to what Rolt's normally got on, except more feminine in nature. (In this flavor instance, copying your spell to sort out what belongs where before continuing on and also drawing a card haha) Regain Consciousness: Historically, this effect is red (or what I can find is) or Homeward Path. However, feels pretty white, what with a sort of equalizing. 9/10.

blueseclipse I nodded, my head still pounding like a man tossed out of his own home without any clothes on his furious wife's door. "Well, in case you haven't noticed, I'm something of a sleuth myself." I said, smirking. "Give me a couple days and I can crack it no problem, like an egg to be cooked in a pan." I said. "Now, about this compensation - what've you got? I won't make you pay 'till I get you some info, but I want to know what I'm getting myself into." I said, wondering where Vivien could be right now.
Rolt, Secret Hunter Legendary Planeswalker - Rolt Whenever you draw a card for the first time each turn, investigate. : Untap up to one target nonland permanent. : Draw a card for each Clue you control. (I realize, for quoting purposes, it's easier if I do one post at a time so that's the sudden shift here.) A solid walker - I think it might do with being instead of , but I can see why you'd have it as the latter. 10/10"It is a question of what form of compensation you would prefer. I have coin received from several planes, or if you would be interested in weapons I may have something you'd have an interest in among my collection. Alternatively, if you wish, I can compensate you by providing my services if you have a foe that needs to be fought or would like a bodyguard."Cryptic Currency Artifact : Add one mana of any color. , , Sacrifice a non-Treasure artifact: Create a colorless Treasure artifact token with " , Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color." blueseclipse I nodded, firmly shaking the Phyrexian's hand. I grabbed the little beacon device, looking it over. Well, it was no telephone, but it would have to do. Crack it like an egg over a frying pan, eh? "Sounds like a plan." Hopefully I made it back to my office to use the damned thing- anything from Phyrexia was liable to mess with one's sanity - speaking of that, I immediately put a hand to my temple again. Visions kept flashing past in my head. Suddenly, I spoke - "Jin-Gitaxias, Urabrask--" before I managed to shut my mouth. "...Don't know where those names came from, but something tells me they've got to do with this New Phyrexia." Surprise! Sorcery Target player may put a creature card from their hand onto the battlefield. That creature gains haste. That creature's controller sacrifices it at the beginning of the next end step. Exile ~. This feels more rare - even if fine at uncommon I feel, I think pack-wise it still belongs at rare. Solid, though. 9/10. A one-shot Sneak Attack? A shame that's already a broken effect. This can, with the right creature, end the game on turn 3 (or earlier with the right ramp) if the opponent isn't lucky enough to have blockers or an answer. Just throw out a Serra Avatar or Blightsteel Colossus. Late game, it can still hit hard by cheating out something like an Eldrazi Titan. I'd think this would probably still be a bit more comfortable at CMC 4 or even 5, just because of how powerful the effect really is. 8/10I prepare to leave as the detective takes the beacon, before pausing as he speaks two names. Jin-Gitaxias and Urabrask... those names are certainly of Phyrexian origin, I think to myself, nodding as he comments that he feels they're related to new Phyrexia. "I shall keep that in mind," I say as I turn to leave. "Thank you for your assistance."

Dangerous Curiosity Enchantment Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, draw a card. Whenever a player draws a card except the first one they draw in each of their draw steps, that player loses 1 life.

You really thought you were getting a free card? Not in my watch.
Vivien, Detective's Assistant: Reminds me of Naru Meha, from DOM. With that in mind, it could probably be a 2/2 or even a 3/3. Anyways, pretty nice. 8/10

mrlozano Vivien looks at slick, walking towards us. She nods at him. "Well, maybe not who actually smuggled it in, but maybe an expert in smuggling. Name's Pidge, some sort of merchant and engineer. Probably from Lorwyn." she says, looking from the merchant to me. While she's talking to him, I subtly move a file over the case file I'm working on, which has 'Rixos' written on a tab facing upward. I nod. "Right. We'll go take a visit to her sooner or later - but first..." I gesture at her, and the lovely young lady turns to Rixos, moving a little closer to him. She's got an air of mystery - yet so, so trustworthy. "I've still got a few questions of my own for you, Mister Rixos." she says. "Do you have any enemies that would want to hurt your business reputation? Or perhaps get you arrested?"Curse of Attraction Enchantment - Curse Enchant player Whenever enchanted player draws a card, you may pay . Demonic Pact, for example. So the semi-counterproductive nature of the card actually goes with the flavor and fits the card draw abilities of black and potentially dangerous enchantments in black. In short: I friggin' love it. 10/10. (Suggestion though: May want to cost it at with other draw engines like Phyrexian Arena and Underworld Connections.)

This woman seems like the 'public relationships' partner of Rolt. "Enemies you say? In the Arena I don't think so. In my home plane sure, any of the other merchant Houses would use any means they have to hurt me or my reputation, but I don't think anyone there knows that I'm a planeswalker." Rixos starts feeling more confident. "Well, in the Arena my only 'enemy' until the moment has been the 7CI. I'm sure they would like to get me arrested but I'm not one of their priorities I think. More like a little bothering fly. And Pidge... If she wants to settle in the Arena I'm her competition..." cajun - The detective is knocked out, so welcome to Vivien's head. I looked up, seeing the Kithkin willing to help me move the guy who just did the craziest thing he'd done in a while. Dumbass detective. "It's fine. He did a stupid thing. I'll have a very stern talking to him when we wakes up." I said, not exactly wanting the help. Pidge, Interplanar Courier: I'd say this isn't or , but I'd be wrong, mostly because every color has a wish! Granted, more for specific card types, but I think the CMC restriction makes this fine. Also, it doesn't need the planeswalkr part (I believe), because loylaty abilities are already shut up by the first part. gurfafflekinsIn the midst of the conversation, a bird perches on the window into the office, eyes wide as it stares the occupants. It unblinkingly looks at the individuals in the room, before one talon unfurls, revealing a message it had carried with it, leaving it on the sill before it flew off, a flash of lightning in the distance as the messenger disappeared.
The message reads "You and I will meet. Soon -R." Along with the short message, directions to a discreet location are provided. {Attack Card - Shamans Familiar }

Popcornia - This is gonna be a long post to fuel my story purposes, so your rating is up here - normally, it's at the bottom. Shaman's Familiar: I can get behind the idea. But I don't think monored or monoblue gets this card, because of the keywords specifically, especially for 1 mana. 7/10. I looked at the windowsill, being interrupted from my conversation with Vivien. Then random lightning. I rolled my eyes - someone had a flare for the dramatic. I unfurled it, and handed it to Vivien to read after I had. "Either someone's as flashy as the paparazzi cameras, or this has something to do with our case." I said, approaching my desk and rooting through a drawer. "Well? Do you think we should go check it out?" she asked, as I pulled out a revolver. Dusty as all Hell, but I quickly blew on it to polish it off, rubbing some dust off with a rag. Pidge had my other one now. When I looked back to Vivien, she looked like she'd seen me aim the damn thing at her."Listen, Rolt, are you feeling alright? The whole thing with Pidge, the headaches, and learning so much about New Phyrexia so quickly's got me concerned." I chuckled, and put the gun in my coat pocket. "It's sweet of you to be worried about me, kid. I'm fine though, promise. Now, how's about we go check out these directions?"Magus of the Leak Creature - Human Rogue Sacrifice ~: Counter target spell unless it's controller pays . 2/1 (The next part is super story on my half - at the bottom there's something relevant however.) Vivien grabbed my arm as I tried to walk past her. "Skylar, I'm serious." she said, looking at me intensely. When she called me Skylar, it wasn't good. I sighed, turning towards her. "Look, I... I was thinking about the mysterious connections one day. Your hat, the words on the wall, and two more things that cropped up here, like the Mirage and Mei healing herself. Then I heard a voice in my head - but it wasn't from my head. Then, I started to feel the pain of losing a thousand children in my head all at once, and then I blacked out. And then you showed up, right after the Phyrexian asked me to help him with his knowledge chasing." I explained. "And every so often, I get visions of these terrible places, these terrible things. It even relives some of my least brilliant moments. And now we gotta find this 'R' - because it might have something to do with this. This is one case I can't let go cold." I said, Vivien's look still that of a mother bird at it's drowning child. She sighed. This should prove interesting."Whatever you say, Rolt. Let's go find this R."Luckily, Our detective always carries backups...And soon enough, we were on our way.

gurfafflekins The directions were written by someone who knew what they were doing. Which alley to take, which window to avoid. In fact, it a path that seemed particularly exact in it's specifications. But it was not difficult to follow, and eventually, the pair would find themselves at their apparent destination. Followed by the sound of a sword unsheathing, and finding itself underneath the sleuth's chin. {Response Card - Noble's Entourage }
"Relax. They're our guests." A calm, but stern tone ordered. The guard's eyes looking briefly towards a shadowy corner of the hidden courtyard, before she stepped back, sheathing the sword and stepping in line with her master. The anonymous 'R' did not step out from her place in the shadows, only the piercing gaze of crimson eyes looking from the darkness. She was quiet for a moment, before speaking once more. "I wish to acquire your services. 'Detective' Rolt." She focused on the words, not out of insult, perhaps, but more...unfamiliarity? Magus of the Leak: Reminds me of Cursecatcher, but I like mana leak enough to give it a thumbs up. 9/10

Popcornia Couldn't meet in my office like a normal person? "Weirdo," I muttered, as I approached the place. I inwardly sighed as I heard the blade unsheathed, though it was a pleasant surprise it wasn't a knife under my chin. As the sword retreated at R's request, I took out a cigarette from my pocket, lighting it, and taking a drag from it. "Well, not one for subtlety are ya, bird?" I said. And they're doubting my title. Vivien also looks calm and collected, but waits patiently. "Well, if you want my services, you're going to have to show yourself. I don't exactly do work for shadowy figures. And I'm sure you're not so ugly I can't handle it."Careless Insult Instant ~ deals 3 damage to target creature. If that creature is legendary, ~ deals 5 damage to that creature instead. "It's easy to get under an insecure person's skin - easier to get under an insecure leader's."Noble's Entourage: That's a drawback card. Question is, is it enough of one? My instinct says no. Reality probably says it's fine. Especially with things like Qal Sisma Behemoth being in a similar vein. I enjoy the flavor and sac ability, too. 9/10.

gurfafflekins The sound of a scoff escapes from 'R's lips, amused by the indignant attitude of their guest. "Information, in any form, is a commodity. An expensive one at that, I might add." She pauses for a moment, before sighing. " But if you must see the form of who you're dealing with, so be it."It seemed for a moment 'R' was about to step forward, a boot about to step on the tile of the courtyard. But then it...disintegrated, forming into black-vapor as the rest of the body followed it, pillowing out over the ground. Even the guard that had been accompanying the thing was put off, taking a few steps back as a shape emerged from the shadow. {Response Card - Shadows Messenger} "Will this satisfy you?" the shade asked, horrific, but out of the shadows for the detective to witness. Careless Insult: Red doesn't get legendary hate, usually synergy, but I can see it in Dominaria 2: Electric Boogaloo. 8/10

gurfafflekins — Detective's Visions: Weird hate-piece, and a hard lock (on both players) with Knowledge Pool, Omen Machine, or Possibility Storm. I think I like it, and it certainly answers Sev, but I'm not confident in the balance. 9/10Time passes. Kauriga, Severin, and Rolt discuss the mystery, piece together the clues they've found, and re-examine the scene. Evening turns to night. Night... "Nightmares! That's it! We know the rifts cause nightmares and manipulate people, Severin had a nightmare and woke up determined to fight you. Why target you? Because you were already after it, and didn't know it! You found the communicator and started looking into Varrs' disappearance, which was caused by the rift, and it was trying to stop your investigation before you found that out... which means that the rifts are coordinating, since the one that apparently ate Varrs isn't the same one responsible for Sev's nightmare. This is serious—at least a Class 2, maybe worse. Thanks for your help, Rolt, we couldn't've put it together without you. Severin, let's get back to Arena Station—the Chief needs to know about this, now."

Vivien and I looked at each other briefly when he mentioned the stone got hot. As he finished yapping, I stood up, and Vivien took a seat on my desk, next to where he was approaching. "You aren't lying, slick. I believe you. I just had a need for the details - and one you neglected to mention was the heat of the stone." I said, motioning for him to look at Vivien."Rocks that heat up like that are a... certain issue we've had recently. Wherever we go, rocks that heat up and burst into something or other seem to plague us. It had seemed to stop for a while recently, but now they're back, it seems..." she explained, nodding politely at Rixos, then back to me."There. Now you know. And now we have a couple leads to start threading through, like a grandma knitting a scarf for her tiny dog. Though if you think you can do a better job investigating this, then please. Be my guest." I took a drag off my cigarette, blowing the smoke towards him. "Now get the Hell out of my office."Detective's Suspicion Enchantment Instants and sorceries you control can't be countered by spells or abilities. Whenever an activated ability of a permanent you don't control is activated, you may scry 1. , sacrifice ~: Draw a card. "I've got my theories." Call to Aid: Deadly Visit Rixos takes a step back as the smoke gets closer to his face. "I suppose I should have mentioned the hot rock before." Rixos heads out of the office. Before leaving competely, he turns back. "Just to clarify, I don't think I can do your work better than you. I apologize for my behavior." As he leaves, he mutters: "But you could have apologized too."
Detective's Suspicion: This seems pretty funny. I would definitley play it in spellslinger decks. 10/10

Popcornia I nodded as R lectured me on information trade. "Sure is, kid. And if you want me to get you some information, there'll be an exchange here." I said, watching as the boot disintegrated into shadow. Vivien raised an eyebrow but I just smirked. All bark, no bite, I'm sure. "Looks good to me. Told you I could handle your ugly mug." I said, taking another hit from my cigarette. They think they're clever. None escape my vision.Call to Aid: Enlightened Maniac - to block the creature with Menace Pressuring Detective Creature - Human Rogue Whenever a card is put into an opponent's graveyard from anywhere for the first time each turn, that player puts the top two cards of their library into their graveyard. "Get 'em to slip up once and the rest is easy."2/3 "Now, what's your job for me?" Vivien gave me a look - we were supposed to be interrogating R, not vice versa. Don't worry dame, the time'll come.Shadow's Messenger: First, minor thing, "Target creature you control gains menace..." instead. As a card, it's keywords combined with options should probably land this at . Shades also have the " : ~ gets +1/+1" somewhere on them, though that's not a huge thing. 8/10.

gurfafflekins 'R' as she appeared for him, gave little indication through her incorporeal form of her read on the situation. The shadowy figure as it were seemed to stare at the detective for a moment more before speaking. "I want the name of every person of the cloth in this city. Every deity, every sect, every level of hierarchy. Name, their god, and where I can find them." The voice, smooth and impassive before, now had a warble to it, as it spoken through water. "Name your price."{Spoiler}{Response Card - Afterlife Warden} Pressuring Detective: A good punisher card, I'd run this in any control deck, especially one that cared for milling. Technically it's a worse Memory Erosion, but that card is too much for my liking. 10/10

Popcornia I raised an eyebrow at her request. Religion, eh? I didn't think anyone on this plane followed the damn thing, but I'd hold on to that tidbit for now. "Every religion? Sounds easy enough. As for payment," I took a step forward, one hand in my right coat pocket, the other holding my cigarette while I spoke. The thing was hard to get a read on - wouldn't stop me from trying. "I've got a couple questions. I'll ask one as down payment, and another later for my trouble." Whether the shade would agree was irrelevant - the question was about to get asked.Oh, poor, misguided detective. You'll find out the answer soon enough.Ominous Question Instant Return target nonland permanent to it's owner's hand. Then, if you control an artifact, that permanent's controller puts the top card two cards of their library into their graveyard. Call to Aid: Epitaph Golem[/a] "How do you know my name?" if the shade cared to look, it would see my eyes flash a bright blue for a moment. Vivien looked concerned with me - I could feel her gaze bore into the back of my head.I can guarantee she has nothing to do with this.(White text is only audible in Rolt's mind.)That's the only question you'll get to ask her, fool.Afterlife Warden: Interesting. I'd prefer if it was Rest in Peace, and just all cards are exiled when they'd hit the yard. Returning from exile is sorta goofy/scary, but at the high cost, not that bad. I feel like a better RiP effect stapled onto a 2/3 for 3 should probably be a 2/2 or cost 4 or maybe even 5 with the activated ability, especially at . 7.5/10, but I always round, 8/10.

gurfafflekins The shade would look impassively at the detective, whether it had noticed the flash of blue, it would be difficult to tell. "I have my ways," was all the shade answered, the smallest hint of smugness breaking through the warbling voice. "I accept your deal. You will ask me your second question when you have the list for me." The shade paused, taking a physical, labored breath. "You will return here when you have it, and wait for me to come and claim it. Not a day early, not a day later." This was not a suggestion. {Response Card - Frenetic Channeling} Ominous Question: Like Temporal Machinations, but for milling instead. Versatile, especially if you find reason to use it on your own stuff. 10/10

Popcornia Outwardly I remained neutral - inside I seethed like a mama bear seeing it's cub get kicked. That was not a satisfactory answer. "Now hang on, that's hardly a fair answer. What if I came back to you and told you that some people follow a religion?" I said. Vivien stepped towards me. "Rolt, it's fine, let's just--" "No, I want an honest answer to my question. Or else you can kiss your business with me goodbye." I said, Vivien holding onto my arm trying to curb my temper. She was failing.Detective's Intuition Instant Counter target spell. If that spell is countered this way, investigate X times, where X is that spell's converted mana cost. "No, not yet - we need more information."
Frenetic Channeling: Seems weird but also neat. Possible memory issues, sorcery seems alright, might want to be ? 9/10.

gurfafflekins The shade was blank as the detective, outwardly calm, internally boiling, protested her answer. Though her guise gave no such indication, 'R' herself felt a glimmer of...satisfaction in having irked the detective. Good, he didn't just accept what was in front of him. "The shadows speak of your name, in little more than hushed whispers. They know you wish to turn the light upon that they wish should be hidden. Be grateful, that I was the one that warned you, instead of a blade between your ribs."{Gift Card - Clever Admission} Detective's Intuition: Like Spell Swindle, but actually usable. I like it. 10/10

Popcornia Oṵ̙͢r̛̯̥̮ ̺̭̝̝ṱ̞̰͇i̢̦̠̣̬̘̙ͅme is nigh. Fear Ṳ̸̦̥̳̩̬͓̥͝s̛̛̝̖͎͎̗͡.I narrowed my eyes. I would press further, but Vivien held me back. Something felt... wrong, and not just with the shade. "Fine." I grumbled, taking a hit off my cigarette. "You've got your deal. I expect a better answer to my second question when the time comes."Like you'll get that far."We'll meet at the appointed time, here. Sounds like a deal to me." I said begrudgingly. Everything about this was wrong. Vivien tugged at me, and I turned to take my leave.Norian Vigilante Creature - Human Rogue Whenever you draw a card, ~ gets +1/+0 until end of turn. "I'll catch the bastard, whether the law says I can or not!"2/2 Accepting the gift - begrudgingly. Clever Admission: This could probably be exactly like it is without revealing your hand. Divination is common. Maybe that'd be a bit pushed though? Hmm. Do quite like the flavor. 9/10.

gurfafflekinsThe shade watched them leave, staring into their backs as they rounded the corner of an alley. Once they were gone, a smirk found it's way to the face of the shade, the disguise slowly beginning to seep away. "Come. We have more work to do," came the voice from earlier, far less warped, more composed, elegant now, and barely a whisper, lest her new employees hear her. "Keep someone posted here for when they return. From what I saw in his face...that will be soon." And with that, the figure, six arms, a pair of feathered wings, black as coal, and a long iron staff conjured from nothing, turned her own way, and left the scene, followed by her escort. This would only be one of many encounters with 'R', should things go her way. Norian Vigilante: I'm hesitant to say this should be "Whenever you draw one or more cards", but given it's at uncommon and doesn't have any other mechanics, it seems relatively safe. Seems like a more blue trigger however. 8/10
