So there's a longer thing I've been meaning to kick my ass into writing for ages, but I just haven't had the drive to do anything longer than the occasional Battle Board post. I had an idea for an experiment that might help me warm up; a forum adventure in the style of the older ones on the SourceForge forums that got me into M:TG-themed character and lore building in the first place. Whether or not this works out, I still hope it'll be interesting for everyone to at least try.
The story ahead, however, has not yet been planned; it will be based off of and inspired by the material you provide. As you all commit your input and I, in turn, am left to put together a narrative from the twists and turns, what will (hopefully) result is an experience that's engaging both for the player to participate in and for me to flex my creative muscles with.
The first prompt is simple: post your protagonist, a legendary creature or a planeswalker. What everyone's doing together, and where they'll be headed, will depend on what inspiration the motley crew will give me. In a week or so, the prompt will change, no new players will be able to enter, and you'll be doing the actual adventure part; responding to the challenges of my prompts with actions from your characters in the form of card designs and a bit of writing. These will, in turn, shape the next part. Note that I will be writing the actions and reactions of your characters somewhat for the narrative that I present; I will try my best to stay in the spirit and character of your protagonists, but if you think I've gone out of character, do let me know.
Let me know if there are any questions, and I hope you'll give this thing a try!

I’ve never done any of this type of game before, so here’s hoping I don’t mess everything up at the beginning.
My protagonist: Rover, the Rabid 3RG Legendary Creature — Hound At the beginning of your upkeep, you may have Rover, the Rabid fight a random creature you don’t control. If you do, Rover can’t attack this turn. 6/6

A nobleman who had rose to the rank of spymaster of the small Kingdom of Igus. Following the conquest and destruction of said Kingdom by a band of soldiers of fortune, which also resulted in the death of the King and the Queen, Malkom has fled the country. He has managed to save Eirik, the youngest son of the king, from the siege, and has been taking care of him since then.
Malkom, Spymaster of Igus Legendary Creature - Human Rogue Whenever Malkom, Spymaster of Igus deals combat damage to an opponent, that player discards a card and you draw a card and gain 2 life.
At the beginning of each end step, if one or more creatures died under your control this turn and you control no other creatures, create Eirik of Igus, a 0/1 white Human legendary creature token, then transform Malkom. 2/3
Malkom, Guardian of Igus's Future Legendary Creature - Human Rogue First strike
Other legendary creatures you control get +1/+0 and have first strike and indestructible. Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to an opponent, that player discards a card and you draw a card and gain 2 life. 3/4

If you look at it in a certain way, Augustus, Malkom&Eirik, and now Orla are all different shades of the same character: noble survives in some form the slaughter of their kingdom. And then there's their dog, lol. I am even more unsure if I should keep Malkom&Eirik in this or not now... On one hand, the fact that they all have something in common might lead to good interactions, but on the other, some variety could also help the story...

Thank you so much for doing this. I love it. {render} Nheub, Traitor of Shadows Legendary Creature - Angel Flying At the beginning of your upkeep, flip a coin. If you lose the flip, put a -1/-1 counter on Nheub, Traitor of Shadows. Whenever Nheub deals combat damage to an opponent, move a -1/-1 counter from him onto target creature that player controls. Creatures with -1/-1 counters on them lose flying and have shadow. 4/3 He once belonged to the shadows, but somehow got away from them. Now they haunt to get him back. For some reason I allways make characters that have some weird problem for things like this. EDIT: I changed his abilities to mach more what I had originally in mind. I'll update the render later.

I submit my Faerie planeswalker Ssthyn for this game. I already used her once in a similar RPG over at the old forum, but sadly that one died rather quickly. For some background info check here, I'll add a card tomorrow most likely.
EDIT: Actually, here's her previous incarnation (even if the wording is a bit outdated):

"I don't care about causes or motives, just give me my payment and point me in the right direction."Gar'daren is a minotaur mercenary with a rough past: his tribe was killed when he was young and he was sold as a slave. After ten years he murdered his master and ran away, until he became a pit fighter, honing his strength and murderous kills. Now he is a mercenary who will work for anyone yet trust no one, havin a phylosophy of "every man for himself" and "better you die than me". He is short tempered and doesn't like talking, especially about his past. If you try to talk to him, the best response you can get is a rude huffing and a bellowed insult, for he is seriously prone to violence. He, however, stays true to his contracts, so if you're the one hiring him he won't harm you... while he's doing your job for you.

"They call me history's greatest creation. More like greatest abomination. Some days I can't even tell which of these voices in my head are mine, and which are...them. I've never really met them, and I'm not sure I want to."
Experiment Zero began as a prototype for building planeswalkers. While her designer initially tried to get spark donations, planeswalkers are notoriously touchy about their mortality and are pretty hard to track down before they die. Unless, of course, you're the one making them die. Spark extraction was harder than expected, so it took five partial successes to create a full spark, which succeeded in Zero, the first being built to be a planeswalker. Zero wasn't alone in her head though. While she is in control, the other five souls in her body are still lingering, and none of them are happy with the situation. Rarely more than voices in her head, the planeswalkers that forged her spark are her mandatory partners on her quest to puzzle out her past and figure out who the real Zero is.
"Hello there. I am... you can call me... Zero." Darling, what happened to Ezzy?! As if we'll be following these ragtags long enough to get comfy. They seem noble enough... mostly. It doesn't matter, lets just get what we came for and bounce.
Zero. Hey Zero. Go pet that dog.

There seem to be a lot of nobles who've lost their homes and inheritance to invaders. That's a lot of refugees. At some point, someone needs to step up and offer safety to all of those displaced by violence. Enter Darla.

Divit, Flame of Euphoria Legendary Planeswalker - Divit Lifelink :Divit deals 1 damage to up to one target creature or planeswalker. Create a 1/1 black Aetherborn Vampire creature token with lifelink. : Divit deals X damage to any target. : You get an emblem with lifelink and "At the beginning of your upkeep, this emblem deals 1 damage to any target. Starting loyalty: --------------------------------------- Divit is a "gifted" Aetherborn from Kaladesh. They were intimate with a human that knew about the gift, and at their lover's insistence, Divit would take a little of his lifeforce, pieces at a time, in order to extend their life. During one such event, the human died. Divit was overcome with guilt, grief, and despair, which ignited their spark, set the aether of their body ablaze, and sent them to the plane of Innistrad. Divit feeds on murderers to extend their lifespan, now. Anyone who kills for no reason should be prepared to die for no reason they can discern, in Divit's eyes. Divit has also learned to channel his gift in reverse, creating an aetherborn born for a soul slain by his draining. Their aetherborn senses draw them toward those dying in pain and suffering, and they offer them an invitation to what they call their "flames of euphoria" - a second chance in a body of blazing aether like theirs. ---------------------------------------- Does this work? I've had this heroic (if disturbing) Black-Red planeswalker ready for a custom set I'm making. I'd like to see them interact with others, see how they end up interacting.

Arix : We'll see, depending on how this thing lifts off. Anyway, let's begin! This first set of prompts will be more open-ended to give y'all some roleplaying freedom. Writing posts beyond your initial response are allowed, of course; part of the fun is meant to be all that character writing, after all.

Rover stalked across the woods hungry and alone, chased out of his former home. Even now, a day after it all, he could not understand; he'd merely done his duty as a guard hound, hadn't he? All those people he'd ripped apart were trying to get at his master's food, hadn't they? All right, not all of them had been even near the house, but they'd looked suspicious, hadn't they?
Just when the hound was ready to lie down and succumb to fatigue, a scent from afar suddenly hit his nose, as if it had come into existence in that very second. And what a scent! It was like a combination of every food he'd ever had, laced with a new, impossibly tantalizing mystery. A more intelligent, less hungry being may have seen something strange in the unnatural emergence, but Rover merely rushed off into the aroma's direction.
After some time, a particularly peculiar human came into view in the middle of Rover's course; transparent, clad in foreign armor, and bearing a weapon of the likes Rover hadn't seen before. It did not seem strong enough to pose a threat at first glance; but all the same, some instinct told the dog that leaving it unaddressed could spell trouble.
Although the hole in his memory still taunted him, Augustus' travels from settlement to settlement hadn't been entirely fruitless; from an old traveller, he'd heard that in an oasis in the heart of Viv Desert lived an immensely powerful witch named Elisa, no doubt capable of both restoring his memories and showing him the path to revenge. Though perplexed by how he hadn't come across the rumour before, the chieftain still knew that it was the first tangible clue he'd found in years; and so, he set off towards the desert.
The forest Augustus needed to cross was sparse with life, and so for a time, his journey went by without incident. That changed, however, when a hideously muscular mutt emerged from between the pines, coming straight for him. The most likely possibility was for it to pass through his spiritual body without risk: however, some strange gleam in its eyes implied it was no ordinary beast.

"Malkom... when will we eat next?" asked Eirik, his attempts at sounding nonchalant undercut by the tightness of his grip on Malkom's hand. "Soon." reassured Malkom, trying not to notice. "Stay strong; temperance is a virtue essential for a prince." Their pack was empty. Malkom knew, but Eirik did not. They'd soon be reduced to either foraging or starving. The nearest kingdom to take refuge in was too far; their only hope, a land of plenty called Elisa that a scout had found within Viv Desert before Igus' collapse. The sands already loomed on the horizon, but would they make it?
In Malkom's peripheral, a familiar figure came closer. But how? Hadn't she perished along with the rest? An illusion? Eirik saw it too and, unhindered by doubt, rushed towards it joyfully. "Orla!" he cried, heedless of the possibility that it could be some deception. "Orla! Over here!"
Like the soulless steps of a construct, Orla’s legs dragged her forward in a slow and steady rhythm while her mind still swam in the mists of torpor. In the blur of fire and steel and blood, some survival instinct had lead her to escape with her life and a passable bundle of food, if not with the most tangible of memories of what had transpired. The clearest recollection was an unknown voice, somewhere, somewhen: ”Seek Elisa, in the Viv Desert. There, you will be safe.” But what was safety without anyone to share it with? Some part of Orla still craved to lie down and let her lineage die with her rather than suffer some solitary survival; still, she could only walk on.
In the horizon, a man came into view, leading a child by the hand. Orla’s mind jumped immediately to Malkom and Eirik, but could it truly be?

At the edge of a forest, in the peak of noon, Nheub attempted to kick off to flight from a tree branch. However, a being formed of darkness emerged from some shadow nearby and latched onto his ankle; artlessly, the angel fell to the ground, a chorus of barely-audible laughter accompanying him. As Nheub picked himself up and stepped into the open plains, he knew that the message was clear; enjoy your solace while you can, for it will one day be taken from you.
While the plains were devoid of shade, Nheub knew he’d have to brace himself for yet another gauntlet of combat against his pursuers upon nightfall. His only hope was the rumored land of Elisa, a kingdom that knew no sunset. How he’d heard of it, he no longer remembered; the shadows must’ve taken more from him than he’d realized. Still, he knew the direction, so he continued towards the Viv Desert… until a movement in the sky caught his attention. A faerie, judging by the shape; but more importantly, something that was about to pass in front of the sun and create shadow for his tormentors to reach him through. He would have to act soon.
So far, Paenor had been quite a disappointment for Ssthyn; death and devastation made for barren soil to pluck entertainment from. Who was she to deceive, if everyone was in such a hurry to die? If the mana currents of the world weren’t so curiously pointing to a single location, she’d no doubt have left already. But the strange perversion of nature was promising to the little fae, and so she found herself flying towards the source – with, she couldn’t help but notice, an odd kind of patience. Oh well, she supposed. Moods come and go.
On the way, she saw movement down on the plains; a man with wings of black, looking at her with… anxiety? Hostility? She couldn’t quite tell at the distance. All the same, he looked promising in terms of entertainment… would she bite?

Another client, another paycheck. A pouch of gold was burning a hole in Gar’Daren’s pocket, and he’d heard that a new town called Elisa had been established somewhere in the Viv Desert, boasting delights like no other settlement could produce. Despite his more practical side initially being against the trek, the mercenary found himself plodding through the marsh towards Elisa, tempted both by the pleasures and the prospect of new employment.
Along the way, the minotaur came across a human (or at least human-looking) woman with a strange, alien look to her; she seemed to be turning her head to and fro ever so slightly, as if listening to voices beyond his earshot. Before Gar’Daren could decide what to do, she noticed him.
As Zero found herself in the middle of a swamp after a fresh planeswalk, she could safely conclude that Astento had been a complete bust. No answers, no counsel worth a damn, and enough trouble for two trips’ worth. Last time we’ll ever get involved in some planebound hick war like that. How can we hope for anyone to help us if we will not help them in kind? That plane just wasn’t meant to be, but I’m feeling good about this one! What do you mean? This place reeks! Everyone, just shut up for a second. Can’t you feel that? The mana of this place… its flow is abnormal somehow.
The internal argument went on, taking Zero’s attention, until the wind carried a new smell into her nose. A minotaur. How long has he been there? He’s armed. Not hostile. Yet. Act fast.

No matter how much Darla wished it weren’t so, she had to face reality; the land she’d found and fenced was getting cramped with the displaced, and the undead troops were coming by nearer and near with each sighting. Something had to be done. In the kingdom she’d defected from, a rumor had spread of fertile land in the nearby Viv Desert; although it was a long shot, there was scarcely another. So, posting a few good warriors as temporary guards, Darla set out to scout out the land of Elisa, hope in her heart.
The border of the sands was in the horizon, but something strange stood in between; a vaguely human-shaped creature seemingly made of pure flame.
Divit stared into the desert, conflicted. Their Flames, now sent on further reconnaissance, had reported the presence of a heinous tyrant the likes of which Divit had never seen before; each passing month, another region had become his in blood. However, as a being of pure aether, they were almost intrinsically unable to ignore to the bizarre pattern in this plane’s mana; it was as if it was being seduced, or otherwise held in rapt attention, by some kind of presence within the sands.
As Divit ruminated and waited for their Flames to return, they became aware of a woman approaching. They smelled the air. A wizard. Possibly dangerous, but also a potential ally. For a moment, the aetherborn thought they could see a faint aura around her, something almost nauseating... but then, it was gone.
Fleur @gorgonzola
It had been a bizarre occurrence indeed; a pulse of energy of a kind Casyra had never felt before, sensed by her and her alone, coming from the direction of the Viv Desert. Something like that had practically screamed in her nonexistent ear to come find it and study it to her heart’s content. Heedless of anything else, forgetting all other obligations, she set out towards the sands…
...only to be nearly trampled into dust by a large, imposing figure of an undead running up from behind. Rude!
Vargir tromped across the rocky land towards the Viv Desert, a steady stream of grumbling and curses emanating from his mouth. Not only had those miserable rebels hindered his rightful ownership of the world by selfishly insisting on being alive, not only had his empire yet spread mere miles from his seat of power, but now his thralls had begun talk of some upstart imperial aspirant called Elisa making claims on his land! Which was all of it! What else was there to do but to head down himself to teach the runt a lesson? Vargir could only hope that his thralls could hold things together in his absence, and not hold one of those annoying rebellions.
So consumed was the lich lord in his fantasies of humiliating victory that he couldn’t see the aetherborn he was heading straight towards.
augur melono gateways7
Imago flew towards the Viv Desert at a steady rate, her loss against one of the undead invaders still fresh in her mind; the rest of the warriors had been able to beat back the attacking force, but despite the lack of true scars on either her or her people, her heart was still wounded. Despite the kingdom’s cries, she had departed to become stronger; rumor told of a fierce warrior named Elisa within the sands, no doubt a suitable whetting stone. Imago would become a worthy queen, or die trying.
Along the way, she had come across a black cat, an omen of misfortune; although most would have eschewed such company, the insect queen instead tempted it to follow with food. Being beset by curses would only serve to temper her further.
In the distance, a familiar figure came into view; Eris, a warrior she’d seen in passing when visiting the Sapphire Lands.
Purrcy had travelled and left with many companions, running the gamuts of race and lifestyle; the insect with its adornments of metal was nothing to confound its mind. Somewhere in its mind, the cat hoped that whatever curse it would inevitably place on its new partner would at least be gentle; but that glimmer of compassion was hardly enough to cause the cat to consider breaking away and living on its own wits. The insect did, after all, have food, and was going towards the source of that tantalizing aroma...
The insect had also stopped while Purrcy hadn’t paid attention, causing the feline to take about a dozen oblivious steps forward before realizing its mistake. Which, as the look it shot back at the insect was meant to convey, was naturally completely intentional.
Hunger and fatigue beset Eris as she trod towards the Viv Desert, but she paid them no heed, instead forcing herself to trudge onward in an attempt to harden herself to her body’s needs. She knew she was yet too weak to avenge Aelira, too weak to be able to look her beloved in the eye in the next life; in the desert, the unforgiving valley Elisa would surely strengthen her with its many beasts and harsh climate.
Behind Eris’ back, she could hear a strange buzzing...

Divit paused their wonder at the mana of the plane and considered the woman, reaching their senses out to her heart, gauging her emotions. Confusion and wariness, fresh, as per usual, Divit noted to themself. I certainly stick out. Hope, determination? Not caused by me, those thought sit older on her heart. There's a pain there, but a pain that drives her, not one she has succumbed to. They wondered at the aura they had sensed for a moment, but it had not returned, and it would not do to dwell to long on absent phenomenon. Their Flames were nowhere to be seen as of yet, and an ignored human could be a dangerous human, especially a potential wizard. Or worse, a missed opportunity at making a new friend. Divit decided on a form: a calming blue, masculine, defined muscular torso and arms, flame-wreathed hips and legs, and featureless face save for their eyes. Divit was not interested in hiding their nature, but if a familiar shape would put nerves somewhat at ease, then so much the better. "Hello and well met!" Divit gave a wave of a hand as they turned to face the woman, their form changing during the movement to what they had chosen. "I did not expect to encounter another wanderer!" They bowed low with a grand sweep of their arm, then straightened again. "Might I ask from where you hail and where you are going?" As an afterthought, Divit reached out an invisible tendril of emotion, laced with calm. If things turned for the worse, they would subdue, then retreat. The woman so far had done nothing to deserve violence, and Divit was an intruder on the world, after all. ( herziquerzi: Looking forward to your part!)

cajunGar'Daren stares at this alien creature in mistrust, her actions suggesting she might not be alone: a trap, an ambush or a mete coincidence? The minotaur hasn't made it along this far by believing in coincidence. With a wary glare, he places a hand on the hilt of his broadsword and grabs It firmly, not yet unsheathing it. His eyes depict an implicit threat: state your purpose, don't come any closer and don't try anything funny.
