GHOSTS OF YURIKAIGAN
Yurikaigan is a haunted world. A land of breathtaking landscapes, old ruins, and picturesque rural communities, Yurikaigan's beauty cannot be understated. The wilds of Yurikaigan are home to diverse flora and fauna and help support the many communities that call Yurikaigan home. Yurikaigan's people rely on nature for their livelihoods, and thus they preserve it as best they can. Harvest the Paddies Instant Convoke (Your creatures can help cast this spell. Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for or one mana of that creature’s color.)You gain 8 life. However, despite the abundance of life, reminders of the past are ever-present. Old ruins document an age when mortals tried to bend nature to its will... and failed horrifically. The ghosts of the past and the nature spirits known as kami manifest their influence on the plane in various ways, and the people of Yurikaigan honor these specters with festivals and offerings. The relationship between the spirits and mortals is a strained but mutually beneficial one, but cracks have begun to show recently... Kami's Warning Enchantment - Haunting (When this enters or you cast a Spirit, sorcery, or enchantment spell, put a ghost counter on this. Then, when it has two, transform it.)
I: Add or . Spend this mana only to cast mystical spells. (Spirits, sorceries, and enchantments are mystical)
II: You gain 2 life and draw a card. ------------------------------ Message-Horn Kami
Creature - Elk Spirit Vigilance Mystical spells you cast cost less to cast. 2/2 (Credit to TheCatsEighthLife for letting me use mystical.) A group of humans and other sapients calling themselves the Crimson Dynasty are now terrorizing the countryside, subjugating villages and cutting down massive tracks of wilderness for both lumber and the latent power of the spirits within. While Yurikaigan is peaceful for now, it won't be for long... Raider of the Dynasty Creature - Human Warrior Haste, lifelink 2/1 ...unless someone acts now. Aki, Wild Student Legendary Planeswalker - Aki : Untap target permanent. You gain 2 life. : Draw a card, then add two mana of any color. Spend this mana only to cast mystical spells. : You get an emblem with "You may cast mystical spells as if they had flash."

Common #1 Arrogant Scholar Creature - Human Wizard Profane - When Arrogant Scholar enters the battlefield, you may exile five cards from your graveyard. If you do, draw a card. "A spirit is no different than a horse. If we have no problem using one of them, why can't we use the other? Those who refuse are cowards, afraid of the unknown. The Crimson, inteligently, have renounced these primitive beliefs."2/3 I thought some graveyard mechacnic was probably a good idea in a set like this. It's still synergistic with instants and sorceries, but it treats it more as a "finite" resource, maybe to reflect their ambition and recklessness.

Hmm, I'm a little stumped here. Nothing is springing immediately to mind this time. Maybe I'll come up with something when there's more cards in the booster.

Common #2 Bolt of the Ancients Sorcery ~ deals 2 damage to target creature or planeswalker. If you cast a mystical spell this turn, it deals 4 damage instead. (Spirits, sorceries, and enchantments are mystical.)Playing with different and interesting ways to reward mystical. WoTC seems to have become very comfortable aping Lightning Bolt via Frost Bite type designs, so I figured mixing it up with a Flame Slash variant could be potentially more interesting. (Plus, Sorcery lends itself better to fueling Mystical this set.)

I still have ideas, although at some point I think it could be too much. Tribute to Fallen Leaves Sorcery Search your library for a basic land card and put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle. Then, if you control seven or more lands, put Eternal growth onto the battlefield transformed. Every winter, the village of Suno creates a road on the snow that leads into a waterfall...// Keeper of Wild Paths (Green) Creature - Spirit Elk Vigilance. ... and sometimes, a myserious being appears on it, and wolves and other beasts stay away from the people.4/5 Hey, flip sorceries at common, good with mystical, and nonmbos with Profane (on purpose)! This looks like too much at common, but I think a little bit of experimentation might be a good idea.

Common #4Shackled Logger Creature - Demon Spirit As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice a land. It was a wellspring of knowledge, might and power. They made it chop wood.5/5
Cross faction card! It's a Spirit for mystical, and it puts stuff in your graveyard for the Crimson Dynasty's graveyard shenanigans. Added the creature type Demon because I imagine demonic spirits would be a thing in Yurikaigan, and it's in flavor for demons to have to sacrifice something to summon one.

Question: Are the spirits of Yurikaigan like the ethereal beings of most planes (Tarkir, Ravnica, etc.) or more corporeal like the Kamigawa spirits?

Common #7
Grove of StonewoodLand When ~ enters the battlefield, if there is a Forest card in your graveyard, create a colorless 1/1 Spirit creature token. : Add A forest of petrified stone can still breathe.
This card would probably be part of a cycle of lands that checks for a basic land in the graveyard and produces and does something depending on the type it's looking for.

Uncommon #1Tragic Fall Instant Target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn. Profane - As you cast this spell, you may exile four cards from your graveyard. If you do, that creature gets -9/-9 until end of turn instead. Play near the abyss too much and you'll risk falling in.Trivia: According to NatGeo, 9 is an unlucky number in Japan, because it sounds close to "torture" in japanese.

Am I allowed to submit something I made for Card of the Week? If so: Uncommon #2He of Flame and Fel Legendary Creature - Demon Samurai Whenever you draw a card, you may discard a card. Whenever you discard a card, He of Flame and Fel deals 1 damage to any target. “Here I am, come Flame and Fel. Fight and die, or flee and tell.”
3/3
A legendary Crimson Dynasty guy. I think Yurikaigan would have samurai, yeah?

Rare #1Itsumo, Who Unites it All Legendary Creature - Elder Spirit Turtle Convoke. Trample. When Itsumo enters the battlefield, draw a card and gain 1 life for each creature that was tapped to cast it. "Destruction is not the way my fellow spirits, inner peace is the only answer. They are part of us too."8/8 Thought could be intresting to have diffeernt perspectives from ancient spirits on what to do with the situation.

lordpat quazerflame ZephyrPhantom ameisenmeister Judging time WIP {Spoiler}lordpat: Arrogant Scholar introduces a very interesting mechanic which I'll be overviewing first: In my opinion, Profane should not have been an ability word, but a kicker variant instead. I would have formatted it like Desecrate N (You may exile N cards as you cast this spell to desecrate it.) and care about if that spell was desecrated. Onto the scholar itself, I feel like the exile cost here is way too high. I think doing 3 would have been good. However, I do like the concept and I'm totally stealing that flavor text at some point. 8/10 Tribute to Fallen Leaves is a card I wasn't originally too keen on, but now I see it's a neat way to get more DFCs in the set with Hauntings probably not being good commons. The front side is all fine and dandy, but I kind of wish the transform requirement was a bit less? Keeper of Wild Paths being a 4/5 for 3 with no downside is pretty wild at common though, so it probably balances out. 8/10 Dusk-Eyed Kami came at the point in the pack when I did not think there was enough Convoke. I love how this card cares about being convoked, although I think the stats could get slightly buffed to a 3/3 or even a 3/4 if you were feeling spicy? 9/10 Tomb Demolisher is a card that, despite me loving the concept and being a nice enabler for profane, is way too pushed for common. 7/10 Tragic Fall seems about right for an uncommon and is a great mix of Japanese folklore and a MTG reference at the same time. 9/10 I think that Itsumo, Who Unites it All should probably be multicolor (bant maybe?) but it feels like an interesting design regardless. Something in the flavor text does give me pause though. 8/10 Overall Total: 8.1/10
quazerflame: Oh my how I love Shackled Logger. From the flavor text to the ability, this card is great! The only problem with it is the rarity. This is definitely not a common in any sense, so sadly I have to give it a 7/10. Grove of the Stonewood seems like an interesting land for a cycle. Seems weird that it can't produce G in anyway though. 8/10 I have a few bones to pick with He of Flame and Fell. 1, I don't think Yurikaigan would really have legendary arcuns, and 2. I don't think it would have hybrid either, especially like this. Still a fun card though, and yeaaaaaaaaaa yurikaigan has samurai. 7/10 Overall Total: 7.3/10
ZephyrPhantom: Bolt of the Ancients is the design I was hoping to see people use with mystical. I would normally say to drop the second mode's damage to 3, but given how you have to cast another spell, it's harder to trigger than something like Frost Bite, so I think 4 is safe and spicy to boot. 9/10 Overall Total: 9/10
ameisenmeister: Visit from the Veil is a neat Rally the Ranks variant with scry instead of instant speed. The flavor text nicely hints of the multiple kinds of spirit that call Yurikaigan home as well. 10/10 Jogbai Witch is a mystical version of Kalastria Healer and I'm here for it. Another 10/10 from me wow. Stoic Tranquility is quite the card. I really like how the backside parallels the frontside. 9/10
Overall Total: 9.7/10

I'm finally back and prepared something for all of you. Let's enter... Dragons have ruled the world of Tarkir for ceturies ever since the planeswalker Sarkhan Vol used the Nexus of the spirit dragon Ugin to travel back in time to save the dragon and change the plane's fate. However, a guest has appeared in the world of five rivaling dragon broods, and with him a new chapter begun. A strange man named Calix, a planeswalker once created by the goddess of destiny from the plane of Theros - Klothys - materialized in the sun scorched dunes of the Shifting Wastes. A Dromoka scouting party was unable to stop and interrogate him and could only watch him wander of to the Haven of the Spirit Dragon. Search troops were sent of multiple times but no clue of the man's whereabouts could be found. {Spoiler} From that time on, the dragon tempests, once bringing forth numerous full grown dragons, dwindeled in intensity. The storms were fewer, shorter, and the created dragons became less and less numerous and powerful. The great dragonlords blamed each other for the incomprehensible development and tensions increased. Dragonkind might just have entered a process of decline. {Spoiler} And if this wasn't already enough, the plane itself seemed to cut wounds. Wounds out of thin air that bled warriors whose kind hasn't been seen on Tarkir for ages. The oldest dragons remembered that once this world stood at the brink of fate to either be ruled by the dragons or the warrior clans composed of aven, djinns, humans, ainok and numerous other races. These skillfull warriors reminded them of their old enemies but somehow were stronger, more prepared and apparently determined to end the reign of dragons. {Spoiler} These warriors were made up of all of Tarkir's humanoid races, even some long extinct, and they met an opponent who was not used to resistance. The dragon broods had fought each other constantly but in these battles the dragons had always been the main focus whereas lower creatures fulfilled supporting tasks. The strange new warriors fought with unknown tactics and unprecedented bravado - and the dragons had, for the first time in centuries, to fear for themselves. {Spoiler}
So here you have it. My take on how the Tarkir storyline could continue. Mechanically speaking, the set features five factions with one keyword and mechanical focus each plus a mechanic for the sixth faction, the Khan Era warriors, that appear in dragon-ruled Tarkir from a parallel dimension were Ugin has not been saved and dragons never grabbed the reins of power.
Dromoka Brood - The green and white aligned faction of the elder dragon Dromoka lives in the vast deserts of Tarkir and is hardened by cooperation and resolve. Their keyword is Conciliate. It only goes on creatures and has the following rules text: This enters the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters, where X is one plus the number of other creatures with +1/+1 counters you control.
Ojutai Brood - The white and blue aligned faction of the elder dragon Ojutai - also called the great teacher - lives in mountainous monasteries between crystal clear rivers high above the rest of the world. They aspire self perfection through wisdom and discipline. Their keyword is aspire which has the following rules text: Whenever this creature attacks, you may cast an instant or sorcery card in your graveyard that could target it. If you do, exile that card. Note that you still have to pay all the costs for the spell.
Silumgar Brood - The blue and black aligned faction of the despotic elder dragon Silumgar resides in luxurious palaces in the midst of the jungle. They build their empire on corruption, cruelty and stolen secrets. As a common form to acquire knowledge is the harvesting aka eating of lesser creatures' brains, their keyword is exploit with the following rules text: When this creature enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice a creature. (When this creature enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice a creature.)
Kolaghan Brood - The black and red aligned faction of the elder dragon Kolaghan rules the steppes, although ruling is more like a form of repeated pillaging in this case. They are fast, fearless and take whatever they want. That's why their keyword is raid and rewards them for attacking by giving some kind of boost if you attacked at any specific time.
Atarka Brood - The red and green aligned faction of the elder dragon Atarka lives in a frosty region of Tarkir's north where they enlisted basically every non-dragon species to hunt food for them or become food themselves (sometimes even both). The dragons of the Atarka brood are bigger and stronger than all the other dragons and therefore they care about size. Their keyword is excel and has the following rules text: excel <number> - Choose a creature with the highest power among creatures you control and put <number> +1/+1 counter(s) on it.
The sixth faction are the warrior clans from the other timeline. They feature the keyword suspend which lets their cards trade mana cost for time. However, all five warrior clans - Abzan, Jeskai, Sultai, Mardu and Temur - each have a mini theme centered around their three wedge colors. They don't have their own keywords and are each somewhat compatible with one of the dragon broods but put a different emphasis on certain mechanical aspects. Abzan - Cares about +1/+1 counters and creatures having a high toughness. Jeskai - Cares about noncreature spells of any kind. Sultai - Cares about having a lot of creature cards in your graveyard. Mardu - Cares about dealing combat damage to opponents. Temur - Cares about controlling the creature with the highest power on the board.
So as you see, there's a lot of stuff in here and because we only have fifteen cards (max) some themes won't get their cards and that's okay. The whole Tarkir block was imo a sight to behold and an absolute home run of a set considering everything from flavor to draft environment and this set is my way to revisit the block in all its glory while also adding something new to the mix. Have fun! EDIT: Although the warrior clans are the "new" thing within the set, the world Tarkir is at this point still pretty much a dragon ruled one. So cards with the clan watermarks should only make up for one fourth or even just one fifth of the set. Please take this into account when designing cards for the booster pack.

Common #1Here's an interesting card Splitpath Marauder Creature - Human Warrior Splitpath Warrior has first strike as long as it's attacking. When ~ enters the battlefield, if you control no tapped lands, create a 1/1 white Human Soldier creature token. Suspend 1 A vicious butcher in one timeline. A honorable fighter in another.2/2 This would probably be a cycle representing the split between the two different timelines, the main one (represented by the main cost) and the original one (the suspend cost)
