Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our five-hundred and seventeenth challenge! The winner of the "Grist Needs Company" poll were BunBunGun (left) and melono (right) with...And the challenge issued by one of our winners was... We've had some spoilers for the new Assassin's Creed Universes Beyond set, and one of those cards is... Leonardo da Vinci?! An actually existing historical figure? What's next? Einstein? Well, if that's the case, time to go down the slippery slope! Create a card featuring a historical figure (it either is or has the figure in its art/text/name).Let's keep a 50 years ago minimum to keep it more "historical", so someone who lived before 1974. To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

Didn't we already do this one? Mebbe back at the old site? My notes say it was here. Resubmitting! Erwin Schrödinger Legendary Creature--Human Wizard Flash Erwin Schrödinger is both tapped and untapped at all times. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 1/3 I don't know how to input that equation as flavor text, so the render's just as-is for now.

Genuinely one of the (if not THE) most interesting historical figures to me

Um, Actually *Shoving my imaginary glasses through my forehead*, printing real historical figures on Magic cards is a proud tradition of WotC ever since 1999. For those who don't know, Cao Pi is the second son of Cao Cao, Lord of Wei. (Wei faction is black according to P3K) I codify the "activate during your turn before attackers are declared" as an ability word.

*Snip*I just want to say that i am very sad that apparently this image gets used A LOT without referencing the Artist. Therefore i don't know the artists name hdthappen.com/bsb-2-alexander-the-great/Is where I got the img from. If anyone can figure out who the (c) holder of this image is -- it would be appreciated and added to the card. Sorry, but "Unknown" doesn't work as artist credit. If you cannot find a credit that fulfills our Art Sourcing Primer requirements, you cannot use that specific artwork, sorry. (I'll try to look into this one though - it really looks nice ) ~Daij_Djan According to Tinyeye, the oldest result is from the cover of a game called Sparta II: Alexander the Great. I'm not coming across any artist credit for the cover art, but the developer is Game Factory Interactive and Publisher is Lace Mamba Global.

It's two characters, but they're famous as brothers, so.. (@ melono, would you consider this a legal entry?)

Daij_Djan - Fine by me. A Partner With pair is two sides of the same coin in my eyes. Just like two sided cards.

{OLD}This one has old wording. Thanks to Idea for the wording idea! Martin Luther is known for creating the 95 theses, which were used as a guideline to make Protestantism. One of the big things he discussed in them was that the then church absolved sin by having people pay penance with money, and not actual actions. And he was not about that jazz. So this card was made in particular to give the middle finger to the Extort mechanic. I also interpreted it as not allowing players to gain life willy nilly. Live your life as it is.

It's ironic how the card is intended (seemingly) to go against black, yet one of the colors it pairs with best is black because its lets you avoid all "you lose n life" style effects (and get your entire deck with Ad Nauseam) and prevents opponents from gaining life.

Hmm, that isn't right. It's gotta prevent it positively. Not break Ad Nauseum (again). Maybe this would work better as the rulestext?: Players can't gain life. Players can't lose life except as a result of damage and by sources the player themself controls.
Players can't pay life to cast spells or activate abilities.

Players can't pay life to cast spells or activate abilities. How about just "(...) and by sources they control." ? Edit: Also preventing lifegain is often a red/black effect. I think the wording on Extort is "you gain that much life", so if that's specifically what you're aiming to prevent, just preventing the lifeloss should be enough to counteract the extort lifegain too.

Considered by some as the Father of Economics, perhaps Adam Smith's greatest contribution to the field is the observation colloquially known as the "Invisible Hand". To simplify, the Invisible Hand is the observation that things we take for granted - bread, a shirt - are available for sale as a result of a chain of steps no one person could feasibly do alone yet all cooperate without any needed interest in anyone's wellbeing but their own, as if pushed by an invisible hand that guided this disparate elements. It's an observation of Spontaneous Order and of how the market contributes to wider society by established incentives for self-interested people to contribute to the welfare of others for their own sake. The original artist of this piece seems be unknown. According to Wikipedia, credit is currently attributed to the one who delivered the painting to the museum, J.H. Romanes. Just to be safe, I decided to add his name, the museum and the name of the painting.

People may not remember their names, but they will definitely remember what they did. Long live the people!!! The ward cost & the monarch ending ability need a bit of work. As-is, the targeting player can just pay 0 life if they control no Rebels. Ward--Pay life equal to the number of Rebels ~ controls. When ~ enters, all players stop being the monarch.

Last time, I chose the most infamous thing associated with Henry VIII. This time, I focused on the Sun King's reign as absolute monarch—his word was law, and no one opposed him. Funnily enough, the card's colors match his clothes. Edit: I just realized this is in direct opposition to lightpaws 's entry. Edit 2: Whoops! Forgot the image credit. Fixed.
