Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and nineteenth challenge!
The winner of the "Carta Arcanum" poll was Aarhg with... And the challenge issued by our winner was... Flash has been a favorite mechanic of mine for some time; there's so much that can be done with it. This week's challenge is to design a noncreature card with flash.

So in other words, it has to be an artifact or enchantment card, since Planeswalkers don't have static abilities and instant speed sorcery = instant...

Here's one I designed in my sleep earlier this year:
Temporal Anchor   Enchantment  Flash
When Temporal Anchor enters the battlefield, draw a card.
Whenever a player would begin an extra turn, that player may pay 5 life. If he or she doesn’t, that player skips that turn. |

Sword of Resurgence  Legendary Artifact - Equipment Flash When Sword of Resurgence enters the battlefield, if you control exactly one creature, you may attach Sword of Resurgence to it. Equipped creature gets +2/+0 and has first strike and lifelink. Equip One fiery soul can turn the tide of battle.
Do you guys this is fairly costed at ? It can be pretty strong if you manage to only have one creature in play, but it's not the easiest requirement to meet. It's legendary as well, so you can't keep piling swords on your creature at instant speed - that would be a bit much, haha. |

Let me know if I messed up anything here, havn't done this in a while. ________________ Soul Stamp  Artifact  Flash As Soul Stamp enters the battlefield, choose a card name. Activated abilities of creatures with the chosen name can’t be activated. ____________________________________________________________ Inspired by pithing needle's effect. I've found that an ability like this at instant speed could be really useful at preventing big combos that rely on a certain creatures' activated abilities, or just a really bad one you might not want going off. oddnanref, I think the tap ability should be written "Fortified land has "  : Add one mana of any color."", but the way you wrote it still works.

I know, I am still leaving it open. Depending on how severing lands ends up working it might be impossible for the land to do anything but : Add  . mainly that. Takes the same amount of space, and I think the only difference is with the never to be printed again mechanic in Dryad Arbor. Maybe some lands that were accidentally made into creatures, but then I do not wan't to punish people for that. Same reason why cards now give haste to lands that are transformed into creatures. |

"~" deals N damage to target creature" must be the simplest COTW win ever. Not hating at all, I think it's nice to see something straightforward and functional win over more convoluted designs. Like the opposite of reddit  Spirit Receptacle  Enchantment Flash If another nontoken permanent would leave the battlefield, instead exile it until Spirit Receptacle leaves the battlefield. Soul gems are composed of a divine material that mimics the radiance of heaven, attracting souls of the recently departed like moths to a flame.Hate card / johnny card / weird protection card I dunno. I don't think it's broken with anything obvious but I might be wrong. |

Well, I am aware of the commander abilities, but I didn't count them as static abilities, since planeswalkers never have static abilities except from the commander abilities as well as static abilities gained by in-game effects. Of course you could break the mold, and give the planeswalker flash the same way the commander-abilities are displayed.

I was going to make a card remarkably similar to one that's already been made, but at least now I know where my vote's going. Isn't this technically just forcing Lightning Bolt into the contest by making it an artifact with flash? This card is no different from an instant, other than having the artifact card type. If it fits with flavor, I recommend letting it stay on the battlefield like the Trial's from Amonkhet block, or if you rahter want it to disappear after use, make it a sorcery with conditional flash, like @oddnaref did with their entry. That is just my opinion, though. It should technically still fit the contest as is. BTW, oddnanref : how does food damage work, and is it dealt to food, dealt by food, converted to food, or is it a numeric variable? Either way, the card is silver bordered, right?
Also, here is my entry. It might be undercosted with flash, should I make it cost instead?

Note that you still pay the mana cost of the exiled spell when you cast it, and that after casting it goes wherever it would normally go. (ie: creatures go on the battlefield, instant/sorceries to the graveyard, etc.)  |

kazerima, I think I'd word your card like this:
Flash When Spell Prison enters the battlefield, exile target spell. Sacrifice Spell Prison: Until end of turn, you may cast cards exiled with Spell Prison. (You still pay their costs.)
When a spell on the stack is exiled, it doesn't resolve, so you don't need to counter it first. And Panharmonicon probably likes the activated ability to look a little more like this. |
