Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our four-hundred and forty-ninth challenge! The winner of the "At the beginning of 2023.." poll was sade612 with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... Design a card with an existing keyword on a card type it has never been printed on before (eg Prowl on an enchantment) . To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

{Old Version} Note: I am assuming the challenge is about including the keyword as an actual keyword affecting the card itself. If any mention of the keyword on that card type is the criteria though, I will change my entry. Edit: Thank you Flo00 for the suggestions on the wording! Thank you Daij_Djan for the ruling!

You mean like whether Wort, the Raidmother would be a legal entry for Conspire or not? I think the answer is no indeed - but pinging sade612 to make sure

Mindreave (Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, that player mills that many cards.)
I choose madness on an artifact.

Edit: A balance fix for the second ability, and a wording change to make the third ability work when ult-ing Oko while sacrificing him.

Going by my notes, this was designed in my sleep: Kerbos, Mortiphage Legendary Creature--Zombie Hydra Vigilance, haste, trample, reach Ward—Pay 1 life for each counter on Kerbos, Mortiphage. Kerbos, Mortiphage enters the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters on it. Retrace Kerbos, Mortiphage enters the battlefield from a graveyard with an additional X +1/+1 counters on it. 0/0

Very pleased with this one, if I do say so myself. This entry is an artifact with amass; there is technically an artifact (creature) with squad in Sicarian Infiltrator.

Under the current rule, buyback on a creature is meaningless. But rules change as time goes. For example, protection and regenerate were only for creatures in old days and now they interact with all permanents. So I redefine buyback as " You may pay buyback cost as you cast a spell. If you do so and it was a sorcery or instant, as the spell finishes resolving, the spell card is put back into its owner's hand rather than into their graveyard. Samely if it was a permanent spell, as the spell finishes resolving, it is put back into its owner's hand." and give it to this card. * No player has a chance to target her with a spell or activating ability when you paid buyback cost. She returns to your hand before any player gets the priority. * Humility can't prevent her from returning. It is determined when the spell was cast. * Night of Soul's Betrayal can't kill her when you buybacked. She disappears from the battlefield before a state-based action arises.

The Flesh Singularity Planeswalker - Phyrexia : Epic (For the rest of the game, you can't cast spells. At the beginning of each of your upkeeps, copy this spell except for its epic ability. It enters the battlefield as a token.): Up to one target creature gets -1/-1 for each planeswalker you control. : Counter the first spell cast at the beginning of your next opponent's turn. : Prevent all damage that would be dealt until the start of your next upkeep. [L-20]: If you control more planeswalkers than your starting life total, you win the game. With the will of self lost, all were truly one.(Unfortunately emojis don't go up to L-20.)

Hero of the Prophecy Planeswalker - Hero Foretell When Hero of the Prophecy enters the battlefield exile a creature you control, with one or more activated abilities. : Activate an activated ability of the exiled creature, without paying its mana cost. : Creatures you control gains indestructible until the beginning of your next turn.
I hope this gets the flavour across. This might be bonkers broken. Also, I don't know if the 0 ability is phrased correctly. I am open to suggestions for improvements.

Unfortunately, your new wording states it is never put onto the battlefield. It is "instead" placed back into your hand, via a replacement effect

Technically it's the triggered ability that has the escalate, but I hope this counts. There are no creatures with escalate on them, and there is an uncommon black card that's missing from the escalate cycle. Note that this too would require a minor rules update (additions in bold), namely in {702.120a} Escalate is a static ability of modal spells and abilities (see rule 700.2) that functions while the spell or ability with escalate is on the stack. “Escalate [cost]” means “For each mode you choose beyond the first as you cast this spell, activate this ability, or this ability triggers, you pay an additional [cost].” Paying a spell’s or ability's escalate cost follows the rules for paying additional costs in rules 601.2f–h.

spazlaz vizionarius Thank you both. Rethinking it and I found that it couldn't replace the entering at the timing of "as the spell finishes resolving" since a permanent spell enters the battlefield during the resolving. I changed the wording. And thank you vizionarius for your alternative idea, but I hesitate to adopt "when you cast" because I can't pick up on the atmosphere of the clause. Mainly it is used for Eldrazi and expressing their weird taste. But why do Hydroid Krasis and Supernatural Rescue cause the effect when they're cast? Probably it is given only for a balance though, but I want them to have their reason. Luckily my card has a reason to have it, phantomic assassin skill. However, most of them are Eldrazi or something effected by them for now so I want to avoid it.

I love the wanderer's abilities and stories, where she keeps saving people and then planeswalking away by accident. So here's a planeswalker that isn't supposed to stay on board for long!

Edit: And in the case of my entry, a lot of instants give deathtouch, but my entry has deathtouch. So my doubt is on whether that is still legal as other instants do mention deathtouch even though they don't have it (so it's a question on the intent of the phrase "printed on").

Trickling Steed Creature - Horse Rebound (If you cast this spell from your hand, exile it as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.)Trample When Trickling Steed becomes exiled from anywhere, you may draw a card. 4/4 This is actually part of a cycle: Trickling Blinker Creature - Avatar Rebound (If you cast this spell from your hand, exile it as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.)Deathtouch When you cast Trickling Blinker, exile target creature. Return it to the battlefield at the beginning of the next end step. 1/3 Trickling Prachdrowner Creature - Weird Rebound (If you cast this spell from your hand, exile it as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.)Haste When you cast Trickling Prachdrowner, you may tap target creature. It doesn’t untap during its controller’s next untap step. 4/1 Trickling Specter Creature - Specter Rebound (If you cast this spell from your hand, exile it as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.)When Trickling Specter deals combat damage to a player, put a +1/+1 counter on it and that player discards a card. 3/3 Trickling Soldier Creature - Soldier Rebound (If you cast this spell from your hand, exile it as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.)Haste, vigilance, first strike 3/2

Idea: ~ deals 3 damage divided as you choose among up to three targets. See Arc Lightning. You could also say "any number of targets" like Pyrotechnics. THere is a rule that you can't choose more targets than things you divide. pernicious Why not just put the reminder on the card? BinaryBolas I think if you kill Oko by activating one of the minus abilites, it won't create a token since there won't be a championed creature anymore because it returns when Oko leaves the battlefield before the ability resolves. I leared this woth processors around: As soon as something leaves exile, the thing that exiled it can't track it anymore.

"Champion a creature with mana value 3 or less and note its name." Then later on, you can refer to it as "noted creature" instead of "championed creature."

Since sade612 hasn't been online these past few days and it's already late in the week, I'm gonna make the final call here: No, this is fine. Despite Wort existing, a creature card having with Conspire would be a legal entry for this contest since Wort itself doesn't "have" Conspire. Also vice versa if it wouldn't already exist, Wort would not be a legal entry for this contest since it doesn't "have" the keyword itself but only grants it to other spells. I think this interpretation of the wording fits the spirit of this challenge best.
@@ sade612 : I'm sorry if you would have disagreed with my ruling.

A spell with Haunt haunts after resolving, while its creature counterpart haunts after dying. So if we shift Cipher from instants/sorceries to a creature, we get:
(I like the idea of granting all creatures with Cipher the Inkling creature type. That's why for the lol'z, I went with the typical Inkling stats for my entry )

Daij_Djan : How'd you get the red type on the artist credit? I actually just go to the template's "Styling options" and choose the "Artist font color". Black and white are usable by default (though obviously wouldn't have worked for this artwork ), but you can also choose a custom color.
This thread is now closed, the poll can be found here. And here's the next challenge!
