Thanks viriss!
I love multicolor cards, and especially enjoyed the Alara block (which was almost exclusively multi-color). As such, the next challenge is to make a set of cards that represents one of the five 3-color combos present on Alara! You can use old mechanics, new mechanics, or none if you want to. I'm mainly looking for a set of cards that clearly represents one of the five shards thematically, though gameplay/balance are still important. I'd recommend 4-6 cards of varying rarity. Have fun!

I'll start us off with some Esper designs. Vronos, the Grey Fencer Legendary Planeswalker - Vronos +1: Until end of turn, Vronos, the Grey Fencer becomes a 2/2 Human Solider artifact creature with indestructible and first strike. Prevent all damage that would be dealt to it this turn. 0: Draw a card. If an artifact was drawn this way, you may reveal it and gain 1 life. -6: Search a library for an artifact, planeswalker, or creature card and put it onto the battlefield. If an opponent’s library was searched this way, that player shuffles their library. 3 Etherium Skimmer Artifact Creature - Vedalken Rogue : Until end of turn, whenever a non-token artifact enters the battlefield under your control, add , , or . Spend this mana only to cast artifact spells or activate abilities of artifacts. 1/1 Guardian of Esper Artifact Creature - Construct Whenever you gain life, choose one: • Draw a card • Put a +1/+1 counter on Guardian of Esper. • 1: Guardian of Esper deals damage to any target equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on it. 1/1 Aether-Lich Tome Legendary Artifact As long as you control an artifact, you don’t lose the game for having 0 life. As long as you have 0 or less life, whenever you lose life, sacrifice an artifact for each 1 life you lost. Etherium Stores Land : Add / / , : Put a storage counter on Etherium Stores. / / : Remove X storage counters. Add X mana in any combination of , , and/or . (That's tri-color hybrid mana. Again, not on the forums, but on the editor)

Just checking to see if anyone else is interested in entering cards for judging. If there's a problem with the prompt or something, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll give the contest until this Sunday, where hopefully some more entries will have come in and I can judge them.

I decided to go with Bant! imgur.com/a/s8nxriDEdit: I just posted the imgur album of my cards, because it wasn't working well with going onto the forums a second time, for some reason. Also, fixed artist credit.

Hey everybody! Sorry I’m a little behind on the judging, but here is some feedback and a decision for all of you. Jartis: The land is nice, the Tome is cool and very flavorful! Vronos is solid and lore friendly, so aside from a few text issues, good job there! Guardian of Esper isn’t bad, but some of its abilities feel a little out of flavor for the shard, especially the damage one. Etherium Skimmer is an interesting idea, but really doesn’t work out. In rare cases, it will allow crazy artifact storming (Modern Affinity anyone?) Most of the time though, it won’t do anything at all. Maybe see Vedalken Engineer for a similar card. Overall, 4.5/5. gluestick248: Really solid set, including ole’ Karthus himself. Definitely full of flavor (especially that tasty glaze…) Two things I would like to point out though: The wording on Hungerstoker doesn’t quite work (though I still get and like the idea), and maybe change the name on Dragon’s Attendant. Those weaklings on Tarkir might need attendant’s but Jund dragons have only prey! Overall, 4.5/5. Flo00: Solid set, nothing too flashy, but all of the cards are solid and flavorful. I’m a little curious about the names of the outcast and traitor, as neither seems to mesh with what the cards actually do. I will say though, assuming devour is still the Jund mechanic, the rage is awesome! Could be a tad more exciting, but overall, 4/5. sade612: I appreciate you participating, but I think this entry is too everywhere to be solid. There are keywords being thrown around, and they don’t really work together or produce any kind of coherent theme. For Grixis Siegecaller, I know Wizards did it, but exalted doesn’t make a ton of sense in Grixis. Afflict seems like it could fit in Grixis pretty well, but prowess less so. The Sniper is a good idea, and while I think it’s pretty unplayable in its current form, it could definitely lead somewhere. Spellscorch and Vis Extractor might need a few tweaks, but I think they’re good too. Persistent Necromancer, alongside unearth, is a really great idea! Since it’s a necromancer, it should be part too, but otherwise he’s solid! Overall, 3/5. gateways7: This is a well done set. Not only are all the cards flavorful and balanced, but they work together to create a clear and believable theme! The only critique I would have is I think the flagbearer should also have vigilance. Otherwise, great job! 5/5. viriss: Solid set, all in flavor and looking cool! I especially like the charm and pseudo-vigilance on the Sky Captain. I think you could explore a bit more with doing cool things, as both the falconer and Khimel are a lot of raw power and little else. Still, both are solid, and make sense in Bant. Overall, 4/5. The winner then is gateways7, but everybody submitted some cool and creative cards!

Thanks for the win! I had a lot of fun trying to not only find an interesting mechanical theme, but also something different flavorfully that fit New Alara.
Your next challenge is based on a series of challenges based off of a challenge going on on the MTGSalvation Forums. You have to make - A legendary creature card (can be an existing character or one of your own creation) - A nonlegendary creature card, an instant/sorcery card, and an Equipment/Aura card that flavorfully relate to your legendary and are within the color identity of your legendary.

Jartis : CMC 4 is really cheap to be getting three keyword having creatures every turn. CMC 2 is insanely cheap for a firststrike, deathtouch Necroskitter My thoughts were that Krenko already costs 4 and can create way more tokens more than once every turn if you have untap engines. As for the Recruiter, I was comparing it to Dread Slaver and made it so cheap since it was only a 1/1, though I suppose with its keywords it could probably cost a bit more. I just figured it was really easy to remove since it was just 1/1, and rare as well. Edit: Apparently linking doesn't work on mobile. Edit: Fixed links.

OG Krenko is on a tap, so he can't attack and make tokens, he doesn't have haste, and number depends on other factors, so just by himself makes 1 token on turn 2, and 2 tokens on turn three, with no keywords. But your Krenko has a much strickter color restriction and makes max three each turn. Not super off on cost, but would at least bump it up by one. Slaver still dies blocking or blocked by bigger things. First strike and death touch makes yours strickly better in many situations. Wouldn't cost it below four, and that still feels a little low, but five feels too high. Not sure on that one.

spruder In a vacuum, that's all very true. But you can't design in a vacuum, or you end up with things like the artifact lands. Yes, my Krenko is more powerful than Krenko, Mob Boss by itself. But at 4 mana, what are the odds you wouldn't have played out at least 3 other goblins before Krenko? And mine even has heavier color weight. As for the Recruiter, by that same argument, any creature is going to die blocking or blocked by a larger creature, but what are the odds of something beating a 3/5 as opposed to a 1/1? What about direct damage? Any single pinger could take down the Recruiter. I agree, your points are valid, but they're also from a different perspective than I was designing from. Not saying you're wrong or anything, just trying to explain my thoughts on the matter.

Miira, She of Cinders Legendary Creature - Human Shaman First strike Whenever a creature blocks, it deals 1 damage to itself. : Destroy target creature that was dealt damage this turn. "If you're on the defense, then you're already dead." 2/2 Ashcloud Elemental Creature - Elemental Menace CARDNAME can't block. , Discard a card: Return CARDNAME from your graveyard to the battlefield. As powerful as it is reckless. 2/1 Miira's Scorn Sorcery Destroy target creature. If it was untapped, its controller discards a card. Cinder Chalice Artifact : Add or . , Sacrifice CARDNAME: Draw two cards. Activate this ability only if a player has 10 or less life.

Alright, judging time. spruder: You have a lot of high-mana cost spells, especially the last one, but they either feel like they're not good enough or too good - like Neomma. If you play her, you have an untargetable threat that prevents all attacks and completely stall out the game. Also, your last card is definitely out of color pie. Jartis: You also have a similar problem that a lot of your cards are over the top in terms of power level. Krenko being able to make three tokens with various abilities and then attack as well makes him a very serious midrange threat that's hard to deal with. The recruiter both doesn't work in color pie because you can pay RW to get a deathoutcher, but also is super overpowered because you can gain control of any attacking creature that doesn't have first strike. viriss: Why doesn't Malice Stone give deathtouch? Also, Keeper of Vore doesn't feel like it needs to have that second clause. Otherwise, very solid entry. I especially like Begin the Summoning and it's interaction with Keeper of Vore. Also, negative infinite points for naming your character Vore.Fleur: This is another really good entry, with Miira's third ability interacting well with all of the rest of the card, Ashcloud Elemental being a somewhat "fixed" Scrapheap Scrounger, and Cinder Chalice both being good early and late game in an interesting way and working well with how RB Suicide normally functions. Although everyone did a good job, I'm gonna have the win to Fleur.
