A woman stumbles upon Merrith's domain - eyes crackling purple, knives dancing around her like moths to a flame. "It's been such a long time since I last stepped foot in this arena," she says to no one in particular, only to see Merrith out of the corner of her eye. "Hail, mortal! Would you be inclined to duel?" Wheel of Steel    Sorcery  Discard your hand, then choose one: - Draw that many cards plus one.
- Creatures you control get +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is one plus the number of cards discarded this way.
In another version of reality, Merrith turns and looks at the lonesome stranger, eyes them, then shakes his head. Drunk on war. Raising a hand, he purses his lips. "No." Wheel of Steel: That second ability COULD be busted, as it has the potential of getting you +8/+0 or more, but I don't see that happening too often. 7/10 Merriths' Refusal 1UU Instant -- Uncommon Counter target spell. Scry 2.

And so another version of reality passes by, and the knife-wielding goddess is no more. In her place, an eccentric woman walks by Merrith, several axes floating around her like butterflies. "Greetings, traveler!", says the woman. "My name's Therisse - would you be interested in helping me chop some trees? I'm trying to build a log cabin right now."
CARD: I would not strictly better Dissolve, which is already plenty solid as a counterspell. 6/10. Therisse's Care  Enchantment Whenever a basic Forest enters the battlefield under your control, you gain 1 life, then CARDNAME becomes a 4/5 green Treefolk creature with trample until end of turn. Therisse's Care: It's not a bad card, but very powerful. I feel like the knobs need to be twisted a bit here. I like the use of forests-only, but mono-green does NOT need any help.  7/10 Merrith stumbled, clutching his head. "I -- Sure. Just one moment." Trying to balance himself in the face of the sudden pain hammering in his skull, he tried to regain his thoughts. Hadn't she just -- wasn't she -- And why did this feel so familiar?
Worldrift RRUU Instant -- Uncommon Return up to 2 target non-land permanents to their owners hands. For each permanent returned this way, Worldrift deals 2 damage to that permanent's controller.

One day while Merrith is wandering the Arena, a pair of faeries with tiny spears seem to appear from nowhere in front of him.
A third faerie flies further away, lining up a shot on her crossbow. "Halt!" her tiny voice says, "Who goes there?" Briarpatch Bow Artifact - Equipment  Equipped creature gets +1/+0 and has deathtouch. Equipped creature gets an additional +1/+2 and has menace as long as it's a Faerie. Equip  +ing to make a Faerie to stick it on

Merrith raises a hand in friendly greeting to the three creatures. "I'm Merrith, a newer arrival to this -- Arena, as I keep hearing people call it. It is a strange place. Who are you three?" Burn the Blade 3R Sorcery Instant -- Common Destry target artifact. If it was attached to a creature, Burn the Blade deals two damage to that creature. Burn the blade, burn the wielder.Briarpatch Bow: I think the menace is a bit redundant here, seeing as that Faeries usually get flying. But +2/+2 and deathtouch is very strong, esp. on a flier. Probably the equip cost needs to be a bit higher, or you need a Faerie-specific equip cost. 6/10 Stupid me I forgot I can only do instants.

"The Arena? Hmmmmmm, no, that name's gotta go. We'll call it..." she flies around a bit, not really aiming at Merrith anymore as he doesn't appear to be a threat. "Hm, we'll think of something else when she gets here."
"Now us! We are the first and finest line of defense for our growing home," she says, referring to the tree with another pair of faeries flying around it somewhere close behind them, "and we will protect it from any interlopers, especially ones with dumb names like Merrith!" she taunts. The faeries by Merrith snicker.
Harmless Words   Instant  Prevent the next 3 damage that would be dealt to any target this turn. If  was spent to cast Harmless Words, you may have that damage be dealt to another target instead. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but these words will come to save me.
Burn the Blade sure why not 8/10
