Thus endeth the mini-saga of the Daily News Flenser. What started out as a slightly silly/disturbing non-sequiturial aside quickly metastasized into a rumination in the darkest of the darker recesses of my sense of humor. If any of you were offended by it, then let this song be my apology.
And now, on with Tosche Station, and your promised deck. This is the first deck I ever built myself that was an actual deck, and not just a random collection of cards. Again, I’m not so great with sideboards, so, well, you’ll see.
This deck is a synergy machine. A few years back, I was playing a multiplayer game, most of the other players had borrowed decks of mine. The guy who was piloting this deck, upon hearing all the synergies in it, simultaneously loudly proclaimed, “Oh my God!”, threw his hands into the air, got up from his chair,, and walked off in overwhelmed surprise for a few seconds. It was glorious.
Grime & Sunlight
Vintage- and Legacy-legal, but only because of one damn card. #ReprintRegrowthInStandard
Sideboard (please don’t look at it, it’s sooo terrible!)
And that’s it for this episode of Dicking Around in Tosche Station. Next week, I’ll be taking a week off, but the week after that we’ll be right back with No Reservations II, The Dark.
So, until then, and with thanks to Daij_Djan, this is sdfkjgh, saying I need a vacation!

6 Forest | |
4 Hinterland Harbor | |
5 Island | |
3 Oran-Rief, the Vastwood | |
3 Temple of Mystery | |
3 Essence Warden | |
4 Dreamscape Artist | Harrow onna steeck. God, I love Time Spiral block. Harrow in , first strike in , counter-magic in , bounce in ; it sounds like it shouldn’t work, but the rationales behind those decisions actually made a lot of sense! |
2 Fathom Seer | Gush onna steeck. This and the Shapeshifter are a card-drawing engine. |
3 Regrowth | This used to be Recollect, making this deck Modern-legal, but there’s a big difference between 3 and 2, especially when it comes to Djinn Illuminatus. This makes a combo with one copy of Regrowth in your graveyard, one copy in your hand, and Djinn Illuminatus on the battlefield. You can cast Regrowth, replicate it however many times you’d like, mana allowing, and using one of the copies to return the copy in your ‘yard to your hand. The other copies you can use to return whatever else you want. |
3 Sprout Swarm | Djinn Illuminatus makes this even more insane, as the mana cost for the purposes of replicate are only . Yes, convoke works for the replications as well. With only a few other cards in this deck, you have an infinite combo engine. |
4 Life and Limb | This is one of the absolutely essential pieces for going infinite, along with… |
4 Stone-Seeder Hierophant | Saproling enters, it’s also a land, Hierophant trigger goes on the stack, you can see where this is going… |
2 Thelonite Hermit | Vesuvan Shapeshifter also combos with Hermit to spit out a whole buncha Saprolings. You got Life and Limb, Hierophant, Doubling Season as well, you got some fun times. |
2 Vesuvan Shapeshifter | This card does so much. In addition to the other morph duders, it can copy the best thing your opponent’s running, and, most importantly, it can be a second Timber Protector. keeping all your most important stuff unkillable. |
4 Doubling Season | We all know Doubling Season, we all love Doubling Season; Doubling Season is Doubling Season. |
2 Timber Protector | |
4 Caged Sun | SO MUCH MANA!!! |
2 Russian. Foil. Djinn Illuminatus | Send a message! |
Sideboard (please don’t look at it, it’s sooo terrible!)
1 Mystic Speculation | |
1 Foresee | Those eyes are so amazing, but so creepy. |
1 Sprout | This is the card whose flavor text provided the deck’s name. |
2 Edge of Autumn | |
1 Regrowth | |
1 Scryb Ranger | |
1 Flash Foliage | |
1 Search for Tomorrow | |
3 Reflex Sliver | |
3 Hivestone | These last two were supposed to be a way to give my Saproling Forests haste, but I never use them. Like I said, the sideboard is absolutely terribad. |
