So, Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths brought with it a cool new way for cards to be presented, with several of the monsters in the set being labeled as classic Japanese kaiju. Even cooler, the Mainframe template supports it! However, I'm wondering if there's official rulings establishing how this text works. According to the wiki, "The name of the original card is featured in a small font below the Godzilla name of the card. The skin name is considered flavor text and has no effect on game play."
How does this work, exactly? The second text box is italicized, so is it reminder text for what the card is really called? Is the big name mechanically ignored, or only ignored if the subtitle says that it is? Is there anything in the official rules about this card format at all? What exactly determines if you use the card's printed name or not? I'm obviously a little confused.
The thing is, I had a clever idea for using this extra text box, but I'm not sure if it "works" the way I want it to. For the set I'm currently working on, I thought it would be neat to set Special slots aside for "guest" cards (well, plus one or two outlier cards of my own). Which is to say, cards designed by other people here that happen to catch my eye, and I would like to make available in my set, if I can get permission. I thought it would be a great idea to use the "Godzilla bar" to include a creator credit on the card, to showcase whose designs I used prominently on the card, like this;
My concern is that there may be an official ruling I'm not aware of that means that by doing this, I am declaring that the card's name is "Card by [Your Name Here]".
