Custom Core 21 (R21) is a set designed using the philosophy of canon MtG's coresets. The goal is to focus on exploring new designs, providing a simpler custom experience, while also including reprints from other sets in the MSEMverse.
To that end, I'm opening submissions for sets currently in development or ones successfully summitted to MSEM. A maximum of three cards per set will be accepted, with one-two of those cards being straight reprints, the rest being cards that take place within that set's world. For further details, look below.
Mechanics:
R21 currently features one returning mechanic, Adamant! While originally introduced in Eldraine, it didn't stand out among the other mechanics present, especially given its existence in a largely multi-color format. My intent is to use it more proactively in a less cluttered environment, and offer a reason to run mono-color in a sealed or limited pool. As a bonus, here's a spoiler featuring it!

Flavor:
Given the scope of the planes present in custom magic and MSEM, there's simply too many places for me to pick and choose from, let alone do them all justice. To provide a fresh experience, regardless of familiarity with the worlds already present, R21 will feature five new planes as the main settings, each primarily representing a different wedge of colors. I'll reveal more about them at a later point, as I fully intend to provide a story taking place on each world in addition to providing a flavorful experience within the set itself. I will however, provide you a hint of what's to come. These will be present in addition to any settings represented in other reprints or designs.
- [???] - An unnamed world deep within the recesses of the multiverse. Endless cycles of mythologies and folktales repeat themselves, plucked from across the Blind Eternities by an unseen force. An endless wall of impenetrable trees skirt the edges of the world, containing all of those who must play their part in the plane's endless tales.
- [Rudran] - Ruled by the enigmatic figure known as the Godhead, Rudran's people are controlled by her influence in the most base of forms. Power. Built around the highest mountain on the plane, many of the planes people and culture vie for her influence, knowing that it's not enough to be worthy, but one must also have the will to utilize the Godhead's gifts.
- [Arecia] - A Renaissance-Gothic plane, still dealing with the realities of old traditions while reconciling with the promises of new intellectualism. Much of the old hierarchy that rules the coastal city of Torealta still persists, but new thinkers emerge everyday, ready to embrace new philosophies of life.
- [Ejarick] - The apocalypse has come and gone, and with it the gods of old. Yet the monsters of ancient legends still exist, and the rewards and glory of daring the ancient strongholds still inspire new heroes. Many come from the forest realms, venturing deep into the vicious frost-bound north or sailing into the monster-infested seas, seeking renown in a world with no gods to judge them.
- [Biang'ren] - A world whose residents resemble their animalian counterparts on other worlds. The plane's residents are spread across the Asili, a region believed to have been the origin of all life on the world. Containing a variety of landscapes and ecosystems, the cultures and people are as varied as the region they call home.
