Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and eighty-fifth challenge! The winner of the "One in every set" poll was myself with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... In the summer of 2010 Emblems were introduced into the game – originally to avoid memory issues with Elspeth, Knight-Errant's ultimate. Since then, 51 cards able to create an emblem were designed, all of them planeswalkers. But why is that? WotC officially confirmed this being a deliberate design choice but (as far as I can tell) never gave a reasoning why cards like Stigma Lasher wouldn't cause the same memory issues good old Elspeth did. So how about for this week's challenge, how about we follow Wizard's old habit of sometimes intentionally ignoring previous design standards? Design a non-planeswalker card creating an emblem! To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post.And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

ilnancy Considering Ill-Gotten Inheritance this would probably not be uncommon. Its only advantage is that it creates an emblem that doesn't suffer enchantment removals, but apart from that it's less powerful in every aspect.

This is a hard challenge. Artifacts/enchantments might as well just have the emblem written on them and spells that create them can just be enchantments with an ETB, so any entry really needs to either be repeatable or give the emblem in some manner other than being cast in order to justify using such weird wording. With that in mind, here's what I did: Traverse the Leylines Sorcery You may reveal this card from your opening hand. If you do, you get an emblem with “You have no maximum hand size.” Each player draws X cards.
I really wouldn't put Flaming Fate or any other card in this thread at common given the inherent complexity of the challenge requirement, but that card certainly is weak as a strictly worse Curse of the Pierced Heart at twice the cost.

I think that my card could still be fine with cmc 3. Maybe in the next days I'll "fix" it and update the subscription. Thank you for the advice btw

kinotherapy I was thinking the same thing. The emblem's untouchability is also a big upside, so the power of the effect has to be balanced against the number of hoops you have to jump through, and against how much of a chance your opponent has to stop it. Anything involving combat damage is pretty safe on those fronts, since it's how planewalker emblems are balanced. Meanwhile, sorcery designs seem dangerous by default -- the only hoop is the mana cost, and the only stop is a counterspell.

This card is a reference to a certain event (https://mtg.gamepedia.com/Shilgengar) in Innistrad's history.

There were very few things I was comfortable with using the emblem design space for, but I think this should be ok. As sdfkjgh noted, there is a lot of overlap between Sorceries generating emblems and Enchantments with ETB triggers. A lot of things that I wanted to do I ended up reworking as Curses to be more mana-efficient and interactive. I think it would probably be best if emblems could only be summoned by activated or triggered abilities of cards, or else erase themselves to prevent recursion like viriss's entry. One exception I felt was fun was to use a kicker ability to summon an emblem. It kind of has that ALL THRUSTERS ON FULL vibe when you go big on a spell late game when they've probably used up all their counter-magic. {Not an entry}

Here's a take on the "horde of rats" type of card, using emblems as a way give the rats a buff that persists between each time they are played.
Fun fact: A group of rats is called a "mischief"!
