Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and eighty-second challenge! The winner of the "A Motley Crew" poll was spazlaz with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... With the new set Throne of Eldraine coming out soon, design a card inspired by your favorite myth, fairytale, or other story you might be told as a child. To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

As a fiend for mythology, especially Norse, Greek and Egyptian, this challenge is both exciting and terrifying in view of the possibilities... so I quickly decided on the coolest battle I know of, Ragnarok (which probably most have heard of by now due to certain movies, even though there aren't that many similarities between both depictions, to say the least^^)

I know that Rowan is set up to fill this kind of narrative niche, but I still wanted to deliver my own take on Little Red Riding Hood. Bonus points for tying it in to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which always struck me as strongly fairytale-adjacent.

Not using the Aftermath frame because it was a headache to work in and generally look at, but here it is. Aftermath cards and Sagas seem like a natural fit for narrating a story in a single card, I'd expect to see a couple more of them for this contest.

I truly love Totoro but he's a funnier character when you put him in a horror scene.

Well... this is going to be a tough one. Might use the mythos option and look to something Greek, Roman, or Norse.

This goes under "other story you might be told as a child", as we used to watch the 10th Anniversary Concert on Laserdisc fairly regularly when I was a wee bairn:
Master Thénardier Legendary Creature--Human Rogue Spells your opponents cast cost more to cast and activated abilities your opponents activate cost more to activate unless they’re mana abilities of lands. Whenever a player pays either of these costs, you create a colorless Gold artifact token with “Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color.” 2/2

Here's something that'll go well with the newly revealed knights/equipments theme in Eldraine. Inspired by the Excalibur legend.

I would have written something like: Tap another creature you control: Prevent the next 2 damage that would be dealt to ~ until end of turn. At end of turn, if no damage was prevented this way, you gain 3 life. Otherwise, sacrifice ~ and your opponents create a 3/3 green Wolf creature token.

Statue of the Colossus Artifact Whenever a white creature enters the battlefield, put a sun counter on ~. At the beginning of your combat phase, if ~ has 10 or more sun counters, tap all creatures your opponents control. ~ becomes a Construct artifact creature with power and toughness 8/8 and has vigilance. I found a really awesome art piece that perfectly illustrated my vision, but I couldn't find an artist credit.

Seeing the nature of this story, it is necessary to make a partner pair. So, here is Icarus: Attachment DeletedI don't know if this could get me banned for the little clothing. And , as shown, here is Daedalus: Attachment Deleted(Not an entry, just for info)

I've never been a huge fan of the Disney movie, but the original Hans Christian Andersen short story "The Little Mermaid" will be my favorite fairy tale. So here's my entry, Asta, Darkwater Heiress who transforms into Asta, Cursed Paramour. It took a lot of time trying to include story elements while keeping true to what the colors would offer. I hope you enjoy!

jarribas309: Um, didn't Icarus fall because the wax melted away? So, he should prolly enter with five wax counters on him, lose one whenever you cast an Equipment or Aura spell, and be sacrificed when there are no wax counters on him. Don't represent a loss with a gain.

Amphibious Form Enchantment — Aura Enchant creature Enchanted creature is a blue Frog with base power and toughness 0/1. It has “ , , Tap another untapped creature you control: Destroy Amphibious Form.” and loses all other types and abilities. It doesn’t need to be true love’s kiss exactly, but who else would want to kiss a frog?

I hope you all will allow me some license here. I tried out a couple of things before deciding that I wanted to do Max from Where the Wild Things Are. Given the story of this book, the new adventure mechanic fitted perfectly, yet MSE does not have this frame yet. As such, rather than attempting an awful edited image, I decided to split the creature and spell to two cards, please just try to picture them as inhabiting the one card with the new frame. Feral Child // Sail Away Creature - Human Feral Child gets +0/+1 for each non-human creature you control. 2/1 Sorcery - Adventure Search your library for a non-human creature card, then shuffle your library and put that card on top of it. (Then exile this card. You may cast the creature later from exile)

Hi! I'm back for this one! The Rainbow Fish (In French: "Arc-en-ciel, le plus beau poisson de l'océan" meaning "Rainbow, the most beautiful fish in the Sea") is a book where the Rainbow fish does not want to give its scale to its friends, but finally do, loosing all its beautiful colors but getting a lot of new friends. I told this book to my younger sister before even reading, just because my mother red me this every week, I really love this story. Here's finally my entry!
I tried to retrace the story of the book with the card : at the beginning, the fish is proud (i.e. strong) but a little "useless" (it does not have any friends). After giving its colored scales (i.e. its colors), it is a little more shy (i.e. weak), but it has a lot of friends and is finally happier than before (i.e. you won the game). I wanted to change the ability for "Target creature becomes of the color of the removed color. Its controller draw a card." but I thought it would put too much text on the card.

The Rainbow Fish is a book where the Rainbow fish does not want to give its scale to its friends, but finally do, loosing all its beautiful colors but getting a lot of new friends. It's a very cute idea. Maybe it would fit more the story if you write "Target colorless creature becomes the color" and it would also make this card way weaker (maybe too weak though).
