Ragged breaths escaped the kithkin's mouth as she fell out of the nightmare. She scooped up the sleeping Brownie and held him close as the memories flickered past, recorded in the thoughtweft for her alone to know. The LOUD had saved countless kith through its messages. The FIRE had kept her safe in the constant nights of other planes. How could they have been used like this? Pidge shakes as she tries to stand up. Reyhs had said she was using it for good. To stop criminals from escaping. Not children and doctors. Was this the hat thing Sevid had mentioned? "What is happening?" she whispers as she looks out the window of the makeshift outpost. Outside, she sees a small tear in the sky. Through it, she can see a strange space; patterns of light and darkness whirling incomprehensibly. She knows, instinctively, that it holds awful secrets within. Pidge tapped at a small device on her ear. "Sevid? Sevid are you awake?" "Of course I am. When am I not?""Well there was that time with-" "Is this about that black thing outside your outpost?""You know about that?!" "Only that it's on my map and next to you. You got anything better?""It… it knows things. Terrible things."
"I think... I need to talk with Reyhs." "What? No way, she still hasn't apologized to me.""Wasn't she like, mind controlled? And in the hospital?" "That's no excuse.""Fine, then just tell me where she is. And maybe get Mei. I know she's been floating in and out, and I think we might need her. Tell her there's secrets. Even I can feel them in this thing."
About time you got here, whispered into Reyhsia's head as she tiredly approached the other three walkers. Tavathi's going crazy and Fese wouldn't let us move without you. Reyhsia sighed and seemed to brace herself for something. Pidge looked up to the hole in the sky with Mei. "How are we even getting up there?" Sevid flashed a grin. Mei turned to fog. "I don't have any of my whoooaaaaaaa-" Pidge tumbled off her feet as the ground below erupted upward at the insistence of the Atlas of Worlds. "Alright, you stupid black dot." Sevid muttered. "I don't know why you won't get off my map, so we're doing this the hard way." With another wave over the map, a spear of stone shot from their monolith and skewered the swirling tear in the sky. Errata   Sorcery  Exile target noncreature, nonland permanent. You gain life equal to its converted mana cost. "Magresi? What's a Magresi? Who's been playing with my maps!"
Magresi, History's Torment - hmmmmm. Hard to tell with this one. Makes mill hit like a truck. 7/10

"Sorry, Miss Hanska... I do have questions, but later. I promised Karina she didn't have to face this alone, so I'm not leaving her."Aiden looked to Hannah. "Trust me. I know the shame I feel, and you don't have to point it out." he said. "I'm sorry Karina. And I'd like some time with her alone, young Ms. Nisita. If Karina is okay with it." the spirit said, walking towards his adopted daughter. "I... I... I want her to stay. She came here to help me because you couldn't." I look to Hannah. "But please, let him talk. I need to know. From him."
//Hannah nods and stands within hand-grab range of KarinaI look back, still not sure if I should cry or scream or both. "Why didn't you tell me?"Aiden gave a tired smile at her, nodding. He wasn't happy she was there, but wasn't exactly in a bargaining position. He kneeled down in front of her. "I... Well, it's an easy enough answer there. I made a mistake. I didn't have much time left, and I... I didn't think. I didn't think you of all people would see me like that. I've never been a smart man. I don't really have a good excuse."
"So you did know," I said bitterly. I had still been hoping Hanska was wrong. "You knew and you lied to me about it. I guess I was right. When you found out about the hat, you didn't want me anymore." I stared at the floor instead of the spirit. "You could have just told me then.""Karina, no." he said quickly, his tone deep, like a father scolding his daughter. "I know I've not been the best, but I can't believe you'd think so little of me." he said, moving into a sitting position. "And you know that's not true, even in the slightest. The only regret I have about you being possessed by a hat was that I didn't get to meet the real you sooner." he said, managing to make his hand grab one of hers even in his ethereal form. // Hannah glances up at Aiden with confusion, although whether she's confused about Karina's statement or Aiden's response is indiscernible.I look back, the spirit just a white blur in my eyes. "Then why did you leave? I wouldn't have left you." I repeated. "If I had known, I would have stayed with you as long as I could. I wouldn't want you to be alone. I wouldn't want you to leave before I could really say goodbye."
"It happened with my mom and dad, it happened with Kirino, it would have happened to Reyhsia if Hannah wasn't there. And then I let it happen with you too."The spirit looked at her crying eyes. He'd cry too if he could. "I... I didn't want to see you upset, or sad, or..." he couldn't really bring himself to finish. Even in his ethereal form, he felt a pit in his stomach. "...You're right. I'm not going to make any more excuses, Karina. I did a horrible, horrible thing. I left you without proper parting words. Without even considering how you might actually feel." And on some level, he thought, even worse than his own parents. "I don't have the words to describe how awful I feel. All I can say is I'm sorry. It's all I have." he said. The blood was strong - but not strong enough. He felt his energy fading but willed himself to hold on, and would keep it going until he could try and do it right this time. "I just... I wanted things to be different this time. Even if you had to go." I try to hug him before he disappears again. "I'm sorry too. I didn't want you to feel bad. I just needed to know the truth. Secrets keep getting me hurt."Aiden smiled at her, and willed his form to be huggable. He was not warm or cold, but he was there. He wrapped his arms around her too. "I know. You're the best daughter a man could ask for - tied with Rose, of course." he said jokingly. "And, well, I know it doesn't mean much now, but I won't keep any more secrets. You have my full trust." he wouldn't rush her. She could hold onto him as long as she needed to. His spirit stayed, unwavering, even as the power faded. I don't know how long we sat there. When I finally look back to him, I can tell he's fading back into the spear. "Thank you. For everything."He smiles for a moment. "And thank you for everything. Even in the darkest of times, you helped me find a light. I think it's time to find yours."And as quickly as he had arrived, he had left.// Hannah takes Karina's hand and gives it a light squeeze to indicate she's still here."Everything'll be alright, right?"I close my eyes and take a deep breath. I walk over and grab the Sunspear again before answering. "Right." It doesn't sound very convincing.
"I'll be here to help you."Aiden's last words ring in my head. "Thanks." I say softly. "I'm going to need it." |

But nothing went awry. The scrolls turned out to be maps. Specifically, watercolour depictions of various portions of the hydrography of the Arena: rivers, lakes... Each map had a signature on the back: "By Hyle Seritani  ". On the back of one of them, in addition to said signature, there was a pencil sketch, seemingly an half-finished portrait of some sort of mermaid. She was smiling.
A confused look covered the elf's face for a moment as she looked over the scrolls, then melted into a smile as she recognized what they were. Ever since liberating the Atlas, she had been leaving this part of the maps behind. The artistry, the love of the land, the spreading of knowledge. The maps floated around the bakery, attaching themselves to the walls next to, and sometimes covering, the maps already there. Splashes of color covered the walls that had been brown since she got here. Cartographer's Signature  Artifact   : Choose a basic land type. Each land you control becomes that type in addition to its other types until end of turn. "Every realmstitcher's got their mark. Mine's perfection. Looks like yours is beauty.""Hyle Seritani, huh? Wonder if she's one of those walking-around mermaids. That bottle got here somehow after all."
hrm, dunno if the density quite justifies the instant on Flow of Ideas, but then again Flow of Ideas was never the splashiest of draw spells :^) 8/10Thanks for the pun Cartographer's Signature seems like a decent uncommon Chromatic Lantern-alike. Flavour text is pretty good. 10/10 |

Hannah and I walked back down to Dr. Arueth’s clinic after our meeting with Hanska. I was assured the thing in my room had been dealt with. Neither of us wanted to chance it.
As I walk in, I notice another girl with a spear down here. I stop to get a good look at her. Tired eyes underlined by wet skin met her gaze. The child in the mirror was covered in scrapes, her hair was a dirty mess, her once beautiful clothes were now a work uniform.
I could barely recognize myself.
While I was doing that, Hannah found the small box of things I had taken from my room. I don't know what she'd want with clothes and papers though."Oh hey, I didn't know you had jewelry. Why don't you wear it?""I have jewelry?" I turn around to find her holding up a string of pearls attached to a scallop scale. "Oh right. That was something the mermaid gave me... before.""I bet you'd look really pretty with this, don't you think? It's kinda like it was waiting to be bestowed upon you!" she said with an exaggerated flourish.
I hesitated. "I've just been kind of nervous about wearing things since the hat.""Well here, you can put it on, then we'll take it off in a minute and see if you're okay. I'll be right here to stop you from doing anything if it tries.""I guess that would work? Just, make sure you take it off if I can't." I take the pearls, and after a few seconds of panic and assurance from Hannah, try to put it on. It seemed to have been designed for someone with a bigger head, and instead slides down like a necklace. I look back to my reflection and smile at her new necklace. Then I remember what happened last time. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, then take it back off.I was able to take it off. "It's. It's fine." I say as much to myself as Hannah. "It's fine." I say to the reflection. I set the pearls back on and admire them for a second. I look back to Hannah. "Well, what do you think?""Oh, Spirits, you're so adorable!" she said excitedly as she stepped in for a short hug. "It's so cute!" she added as she stepped back."You really think so?" I ask, not even sure myself if out of doubt or hope."Absolutely!" she assures me with a bright smile. "Maybe you should wear it more often.""Maybe I should." I smile. It'll be nice to wear things the hat didn't give me after all. |

We take a table and after a few seconds of awkward maneuvering I manage to set the spear down where it won't trip anyone. I take the menu and can feel the confusion growing on my face as I look over it.
"Breaded Karisto? Eristo Eggs? Shimer Poppets?" I squint and hope the Volarian letters make more sense that way. "Hannah, I think my spark is broken? I only know what like half these words mean." I spend another moment trying to decipher the descriptions before giving in. "Uhhh, just get me something you like. I'm sure it'll be good."Seek Guidance Instant Target creature gets +1/+1 and gains flying and lifelink until end of turn.
Offer Sustenance - Fervent Strike wants to know what it did to hurt you :c 7/10 |

"Spear training is going better though!" I hold up my left arm, which now had the transceiver on it. "I had to switch arms so the transceiver isn't on my front arm where it might get hit and broken." I laugh a little as I add "I keep looking at the wrong arm and thinking I lost it. Going to take a bit to get used to that."
Transceiver Network Artifact : Each player creates a colorless Transceiver artifact token with " , : Draw a card."  , : Draw a card for each Transceiver you control. "So do you have any plans for Entela? It's been a while since I've been able to explore a city for fun."
(If she has been/would have been asked at some point, she'd have told Hannah about Festenya, but not really much about what she was really doing in the months before coming to the Arena)

I was really concerned about Mental Preparation until I realized you could only put one in your graveyard. Still gotta deal with those other two somehow, and that seems perfectly alright. Search for Interest Sorcery Each player discards their hand, then draws a card for each card they discarded this way. If you have less cards in hand than each opponent, you draw seven cards instead.

"Aiden kept his pain a secret to make me feel better, but it just got me hurt instead. I did the same thing. Not just with you, but with everyone who got hurt by the hat because I kept my pain a secret. I don’t want to keep these secrets anymore.” I hesitated a second, giving her a second to stop me.
“Even before the hat, I was always in trouble. Nothing I did ever made anything better, and every time someone tries to help me, they get hurt, or worse. I told you to stay away because I didn't want that to happen to you.” I stopped and took a big breath to calm my nerves. Last chance to back out.
“But you still tried to help me. I knew something would happen, but I let you help, and then you got hurt. That's why I was sorry. I wanted to keep you safe, but I just hurt you instead."
The last time I told her, she cried. We were in a better place now, I told myself. I had explained this time, I told myself. She needed to know, I told myself.

Steady State - I actually basically redesigned this card on the first draft >.> does some work with the other half and hoses discard better than my last take. 9/10Search for Interest - first half of this is mostly reasonable, second half is D: this is going to be a draw 5+ very easily for mono red. 7/10
Lady Mapi Orchards of Agahia - hrm, taplands that check for nonland permanents usually aren't great, but this one can pretty reasonably get enabled t1. Seems solid. 8/10
(response card below alongside the flavor post I was working on anyway. btw, you never did rate the NOPE or the counter-manifesto :b) --- I set myself up in the simulation equipment Hana had set up. Everything would feel real, but I shouldn't be able to really planeswalk out of here. The simulation displays a desert area near a market. A Festenian portal is nearby. Kinshala. A plane I had been too for only a few moments, and only because of the hat.
"I know it's not the most familiar territory," I hear a sourceless voice. "But it's a lot easier to get somewhere you know than somewhere new. Try to think about the Arena Station. Outside, preferably. Your goal is to get there without taking a real step."

When I finally get the feeling for drawing mana, I realize this isn't the first time it's happened. I must have done it a few times already, without even realizing it. This must have been why it was so tricky to teach.
I can feel the mana in my soul and focus on the Arena. The colors of Kinshala swirl around me for a minute, then act erratically as I focus on them instead of the Arena. I quickly refocus. The colors slide back into place, creating the Arena. I had done it? I had done it! I wanted to jump, but something was keeping me from moving. I can hear Hana laughing as the simulation resets."I didn't even know it was possible to planeswalk into a wall."--- I had come back for a second day of testing. So far, it had been going about as well as the first. Whenever I made it to the Arena, something always managed to go wrong on the way.

I close my eyes and think of the Arena once again. The calmness of the orchard stays with me as I focus on the yard outside the Arena Station. I can almost smell the ash. When I open my eyes, the tents and sand of Kinshala blur away. The colors swirl around me for a few seconds and settle back down. I stumble a bit at the disorienting show, but I'm not stuck this time. I look around and recognize the now familiar Arena Station.
"Hana!" I shout. "I did it! Without getting stuck this time!""Good work. Now do it again, faster. If you have to pause and think, you need more practice."I nod. Partners' Guidance - feels very battlebond-y. might want reminder text for what happens if both die? (cause i'm not even 100% what happens there) but w e w you actually pulled that card off, with an excellent aid call to boot. i'm sad to say i can only give this card a 10/10

I'm not sure, could be either. Seems fine? Not exciting but functional, literally my definition of 8/10 Increasing Worry Sorcery Increasing Worry deals 4 damage to any target and 2 damage to you. If Increasing Worry was cast from your graveyard, it deals 8 damage to that target and 4 damage to you instead. Flashback

Increasing Worry - owww. Front half is a bit suspect due to Char, sorc-speed might be enough to justify it though? back half generally doing more than red gets but think it works for an Increasing spell. 9/10

Karina stands and pulls me into a tight hug. I know what she means. I just felt what she means, moments ago.
"I'm not going anywhere if you're not, okay? I was just so scared that you would leave that I didn't notice how much you wanted to stay."
"Heh. You know, in Entela there's a thing adults say. 'Sight leads to blindness.' If I'm not messing it up, it means that you 'saw' all the ways I could leave, so you were 'blind' to the fact that I want to stay with you. ... To the fact that I love you. That's what I should've said the first time. I love you. I do."
Karina lets me go and looks at me. "Alright Hannah. I think we got off on the wrong foot last time. What do you say? Should we give it another try?"
I smile at Karina. "What do you think about me... trying that again? But this time you know I'm going to."
Karina show me a smile of her own. A real smile. "I'd like that." I take a deep breath and, with her knowledge this time, pull Karina lightly towards me and kiss her, without a care for anyone in the world but her.

Renewed Hope looks a lot like a card I designed, also at 3 mana, in Volaria called A Wish for Peace. Triple density probably accounts for the power difference, 9/10

So there were three main routes from the last line of that last post. If Hannah just went for it, would be a bit of stress on Karina with Hannah not learning her lesson. If she didn't at all, would be a bit of guilt on her for ruining Hannah's moment. Hannah managed to get the golden ending :3 For those unfamiliar, Hannah's using a type of triggered ability made by Timespiraled. It only triggers or resolves if you haven't chosen to do the "may" part of the effect for that ability that turn. |

Responding to responses for my guest system attacks: Memories of Home is, unless I'm missing something, a worse version of Amulet of Vigor? In fact, it's a fair bit weaker - multiples don't stack, and you don't trigger Inspired abilities. It still does the work, though, so I can't exactly fault it. 8/10Nullifier of Planar Energies trips off warning bells in my head, I'm afraid. It's OK-ish on its own, but it really isn't that hard to add charge counters to things or to untap them. I'd really like that counter to cost some amount of mana, or for it not to be a hard counter. A 7/10. Aggressive Manifesto is more like it! Much like Sigil Captain, it actually makes me want to build a deck around it. And, on top of that, it's fair for the (lack of) cost. A 10/10 (don't spend it all in one place). |

Karina Oblay is really neat, and the callouts to other important figures is great. I don't see any balancing issues, so full 10/10 here.
Hannah Delcarlo-Nisita (which, by the way, we know the longest name that'll fit with 4 mana symbols now, it's that one) is really amazing. Synergizes well with her artifacts, despite not actually calling them out in the card text, and it also synergizes really well with Karina. 10/10 here as well.

In the middle of the night, a gentle tapping is heard at the door of Sevid's house. It then is heard at a window. Another. Pretty soon there's an incessant tapping at every window and door of her house. Looking to the outside, it seems like the tapping is caused by tiny stones who are seemingly moving on her own, tapping lightly enough to not leave even a single crack.

It floats by, out of sight but not out of reach, as she opens the door into the night. "Hey, we're closed!" she yells "Come back in the morning! (after the events of The Book) A dark-skinned young adult boy and a seemingly robotic masked person walk over to Reyhsia. Then, the dark-skinned boy, tears in his eyes, approaches her.

He had these flowers covering him, and this ominous glowing eye. It was red or pink, I don't remember.
