Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and seventy-seventh challenge! The winner of the "Librarian's Lament" poll was marshmellow with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... If my Card of the Week victories have taught me anything, it's that people go buck wild for nonstandard card frames. Going by the latest spoilers, it looks like Wizards has come to the same conclusion. So for this contest, let's design a card with a nonstandard card frame. Whether that means full art, so-called "showcase frames," one of the lesser-used styles, or using a keyword that alters the frame such as level up will be left to you to decide. Note: As there have been one or two similar challenges in the past, please don't reuse a previous entry from one of those. ~Daij_Djan To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

...In retrospect: Do I need to edit this to not have the fuse arrows since you can't cast both at the same time?

Not gonna render this, because it looks horrible in MSE:
Mindpact Demon Creature--Demon Whenever you draw a card, put a level counter on this. 1/1 ------------------------------------------------------------------ Level 3+> Flying, trample 1/1 Mindpact Demon gets +1/+1 for each level counter on it. At the beginning of each end step, draw a card and lose 1 life for each level counter on Mindpact Demon.

Rules Lawyer should have been black-border. This allows you to make a massive alpha swing, while delaying death so that if you end up kiling your opponent, they can come back and try and get to a draw.

dynamic returns (unfortunately), with a new card frame to boot Pros of Aftermath frame: no more manually cutting art and searching for art that looks good bisected, players don't have to turn the car upside Cons: art has to look good tiny and squished especially for the top, at most three lines of text for the permanent and barely any for the nonpermanent 9with reminder text) "required reading": Dynamic Comp RulesFaewild Guardian Dynamic Creature- Faerie Shaman Reach Whenever Faewild Guardian attacks, untap each other creature you control. 3/4 // Guardian Genesis Dynamic Instant (Cast either side of a dynamic card and ignore the other.)Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature and untap it. {single image}

I was inspired by augur turning a noncreature frame into a creature frame, so I did the same with Sagas!
Introducing Ancients! Creatures with the subtype Ancient use ancient counters. Instead of automatically adding an ancient counter to a creature after your draw step, pay a cost. This way, you can keep your creature on the battlefield until the time is right. As with Sagas, once the Ancient reaches level III, it will be sacrificed. Level III is always a sort of combat trick or other useful effect -- just trade a little mana and a creature at instant speed. (Whenever relevant, level III only affects other creatures, since the Ancient will be sacrificed immediately after the ancient counter is put on.)

augur : I really like this idea, but I can't help but think it could benefit from a more evocative name than Dynamic. It's functional, but there could be a different word to give it more impact. Here's my entry, complete with a 'The Monarch' style emblem thingy. I'm not sure what this kind of game object is called.

The second art is technically already for a card, but it's a promo, so I think it works for the situation. Also, for some reason my aftermath template throws up an error that says it doesn't have a rarity indicator, so...I'll go with uncommon. Edit: spazlaz You may want to know that Rags to Riches is already an aftermath card name

spazlaz / Jartis : don't forget the actual aftermath keyword (ex [card]Fame[/card]) cwynwyn : fair point. I was actually trying to go for something more generic like split cards, since something snappier like aftermath works as a mechanic name but not as a supertype (which I believe is necessary rules wise)

you know it's a good entry and not at all overwrought when it has a preface, right? anyway, here's a preface
my first ever project in this community was a lil ditty called Averlos. Averlos made me real happy to work on because I was just so excited to explore this new and weird form of creativity and self-expression with like-minded people. it also, like most first projects do, sucks nuts
for that set I* came up with a character named Griff, a hippogriff knight whose deal was being a Hard Man Ready To Fight And Do The Hard Things in an otherwise pacifist society, which was also symbiotic with a living metal (hence the abilities on the card I'm gonna post). that was also basically all he was. also over time his origin story kept changing because I couldn't hold a consistent one down. yes, a hippogriff named Griff. you will not be able to cringe harder than me about that, I promise you. don't try. however, Griff was also part of that period in my custom magic life when I wasn't beset by doubts or excessive, paralyzing self-critique or the inability to see the positives in my work or feel only fleeting happiness with it before some flaw, some point of cringe, whether valid or just perceived, puts me back in that grey and bleak self-cringe headspace about my creative output. like it kinda has been.
I'm trying to channel that unabashed drive and joy to just put the thought and word stuff inside me into words and give myself credit and not worry about it being perfect and letting it be flawed and soft around the edges (tempered with, like, actual thought and structure and ability to accept feedback, obviously), because making it used to be enough, and seeing it out there used to be enough to just let me love it and be invested in it. I'm trying to let myself embrace malleability and not beat myself up for not having Perfect plans and Perfect plot and Perfect character concepts and Perfect whatever. I'm trying to find that energy again. and in the spirit of that, here's my weird frame tribute to the first person I ever really made in this world. cheers, Griff. you were a cringey one-note inconsistent motherfucker, but you were mine, and I loved you.**
some rules stuff: - Hero is a supertype. - Hero has the same rules baggage as Legendary: you may only have one Hero of the same name on the field, and if more enter, you sacrifice all but one as a state-based action. - Heroes also have implicit "This creature enters the battlefield with a growth counter on it." - Each Hero has a triggered or activated ability that gives it growth counters.
- A Hero has the abilities associated with the number of growth counters on the left side. This is cumulative. For example, if Griff, Sword of the Commune has three growth counters on it, it's a 3/3 with flying, first strike, and lifelink.
*not sure if it was me or if it was a joint effort. anyway I think I was mostly the one responsible
**for the love of god don't vote for this entry just because of all this

This card relies on a very tight reading of rule 109.5 "For an activated ability, this is the player who activated the ability." Any player may equip this card to a creature they control. You can reequip it during main phase 2 if you want (hey it's free), but it's a moot point since your opponent can equip it before combat on their turn. Combos well with Crackdown Construct or Fatespinner.

Slobad was a pre-mending planeswalker from the plane of Mirrodin who was seemingly cursed, except in one way, he was an amazing Artificer with an affinity for machines. So, much so that later in his life he was forcefully separated from the person he cared for (the Planeswalker Glissa) and forced into service by Memnarch who tortured him, cut his limbs off and attached him to a machine. Once freed and after Memnarch was defeated, Slobad was restored and received Glissa's spark, which had been Memnarch's goal. Karn offered to take Slobad on as his apprentice. But, reunited with Glissa, Slobad refused to leave. Karn left Slobad, Glissa, and Geth as the new guardians of Mirrodin and the Mirari. Shortly thereafter, Slobad was killed by hordes of goblins who had been left leaderless.
These cards represent the period where Slobad had not only his skills as an artificer, but also Glissa's spark.
Since these are pre-mending events, I wanted to represent that. So, I used the M15 Classicshifted Planeswalker Template for "Slobad, Goblin Artificer" and, since there is no classic-styled emblem template, his template was made using the normal M15 emblem template.
Hope you enjoyed your history lesson and my creation!

I got so excited when I read the challenge, I always wanted to create some multicolored sagas ever since I saw them in Dominaria. Now, I have an excuse to make one and show it off, but I ended up making two. I checked the rules, and there wasn't anything against multiple entries, but if that is considered against the spirit of the Card of the Week contest then I'll gladly ask that you only enter my first entry into voting. I just wanted to show both of these ideas off and see what everyone thought of them, thanks for taking a look! First Entry - Lifedrained DevotionThis card was originally going to be a saga curse similar to Captive Audience, with the chapters ticking away, the consequences only getting worse. I think I'll design that sometime in the future, but when designing I thought about life loss and a saga that actually had a story with it that lead to winning the game. So the idea here is you are making a blood sacrifice to this angel statue asking for help, and in return you get a flying angle who helps you turn around the battle whether you're ahead or behind. It's a bit of a risk going down on life just to summon this creature, but when the chant finishes you have the option to trade life force with the opponent if you've been letting yourself get hurt or even hurting yourself the whole game. Second Entry - Efflorescing Remnants
This saga tells a different story, it's the rebirth from ruin. First, it's just a few plants, nothing to be concerned about. Then there is a trampling 3/3 elemental if nothing else has happened, things get a little more serious. Finally, when everything doubles, there is now 4 plants and 2 trampling 6/6s if there has still been nothing done on either side. I originally made this an uncommon, then when i saw the comparisons to History of Benalia, I knew it had to be raised to a mythic for how bonkers this could get similar to how History pumps all knights and how Song of Freyalise makes all creatures massive. The story is one of nature taking back what it has lost in force, things only getting exponentially worse as time goes on. Thanks for taking the time to look at these, let me know what you think!

@ Syliris: You can indeed have only a single entry within these challenges.
For my own entry, I originally wanted to do a common Saga, but then decided to rebalance it as an uncommon anyway

So this is one of my cards in my spare project, not sure if I should push the mana cost higher because of the potential advantage it can have such as putting it on a deathtouch creature or something.

I think your first entry is flawless: balanced, fun, synergistic and a fine ratio of mighty and risky. Except that it is way too powerful, your second entry is also excellent (non-monogreen 0/1 plant token seem strange, but if it's in a set, it could have it's place): also fun and synergistic with both others and itself! I would either change it to or to and get rid of trample for the tokens. Even without any other creatures and similar, the card by itself brings so much to the table that three mana is really pushy.
