Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and seventy-forth challenge! The winner of the "So deep! But deepness is relative. Absolutely..." poll was collex with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... Unlike the last two Core Sets (Origins and M19), M20 does not have a “ Sparker” – a double-faced Legendary creature that transform into a Planeswalker. Let’s fix that shall we? Your challenge for today is to select any official WotC planeswalker that does not already have a Sparker card and create one for them. Feel free to come up with your own backstory if you select a character that doesn’t have one yet. If you do, or if the character you choose is somewhat obscure, I recommend you let us know what that backstory is alongside the card. Happy designing! To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

Teyo, Inept Acolyte Legendary Creature — Human Wizard Vigilance When ~ enters the battlefield, create a 0/3 white Wall creature token with defender. Whenever another creature you control with defender dies, exile ~, then return him to the battlefield transformed under his owner’s control. 2/3 // Teyo, Valiant Protector Legendary Planeswalker — Teyo Distribute two +1/+1 counters among one or two target creatures you control with defender. Until end of turn, those creatures gain vigilance and can attack as though they didn't have defender. You gain 2 life for each creature you control with defender. You get an emblem with "If a source would deal damage to you or a permanent you control, prevent all but 1 of that damage."

This is prolly cheating, but ask me if I care:
Vedalken Initiate Creature--Vedalken Wizard Whenever damage is dealt to Vedalken Initiate, put that many loyalty counters on it. If Vedalken Initiate would die, transform it instead. 1/1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Wanderer Magus Legendary Planeswalker--Arcanis : Target player draws a card. : Put target permanent that’s not a basic land on top of its owner’s library. : Choose a color. Return each nonland permanent of the chosen color on the battlefield to its owner’s hand.
If anyone has any suggestion for art for the front face, I'd love to see them.

Dack, Aspiring Mage Legendary Creature - Human Wizard Whenever Dack, Aspiring Mage deals combat damage to a player, draw a card. Whenever a creature deals combat damage to Dack, Aspiring Mage, if he is still on the battlefield, exile him, then return him to the battlefield transformed. 3/2 Dack, Interplanar Thief Legendary Planeswalker - Dack : Target creature can’t be blocked this turn. : Look at the top X cards of your library, where X is the converted mana cost of target artifact. Take one of those cards into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order. : Gain control of all artifacts and untap them. They gain haste until end of turn.

Pretty sadistic asking us to find not one, but two pieces of fanart for a planeswalker that doesn't already have a sparker! Luckily I found some Tibalt fanart and although they look pretty similar, I think it works..
*Snip* Tibalt, Fiend of Nephalia was missing artist credit. ~Daij_Djan
Tibalt, Fiend of Nephalia Legendary Creature — Devil Human Whenever Tibalt, Fiend of Nephalia attacks, discard a card. If you do, Tibalt deals 2 damage to any target. Whenever you cast a spell, if you have no cards in hand, exile Tibalt, then return him to the battlefield transformed under his owner’s control. 2/1 // Tibalt, Devil Consorter Legendary Planeswalker — Tibalt : Discard a card at random, then draw a card. : Create X 1/1 red Devil creature tokens with “When this creature dies, it does 1 damage to any target.” : Target opponent gets an emblem with “You can’t gain life” and “If a source would deal damage to you, it deals six times that much damage instead.” Tibalt was a stitcher in Innistrad but he was really shit so instead of stitching things he tortured them instead. Then a bunch of devils showed up in his house, then the police showed up in his house, then he cast a spell which like merged him with the devils and made him experience all the suffering he'd inflicted on others, which was like. Quite a lot. So then he sparked and went to I dunno rabiah or somewhere

Luckily I found some Tibalt fanart and although they look pretty similar, I think it works. Yeah, I did worry about that, but ultimately I assumed that the community would be lenient if the art in the render was not an exact 1:1 match if it was close enough. Like, you could probably use a picture of Jaina Proudmoore from WOW with her hood up and pretend its Kasmina and nobody would hold it against you. Lord knows I've taken fan art of one character to illustrate another one a couple times.

Sorin's time with the Three is well after his spark ignited, but Magic lore as we have it just kinda skips over that intervening time...and the time before, other than knowing that Edgar's ritual to turn them into vampires is what ignited him.

Curious. Does a sparker have to be a creature at the start? I have an idea for a Saga -> Planeswalker.

viriss: I don't know if it's intentional but if you control no artifacts when your Daretti enters, both abilities will trigger. And if you put them on the stack in the right order Daretti will flip before the tokens are created. If you want to play around this, maybe you could make the second one an end of turn trigger. Also it's a weird (but still fun) challenge to control no artifacts with a card you'd obviously want to put in an artifact deck.

I'll leave a link to Ob Nixilis's back story but I'll try sum it up here: Ob Nixilis was a warlord and was losing. So in a last ditched effort he sacrifices his last two soldiers to activate a dark ritual, but it works too well. He not only kills his enemies but everyone and everything on his plane except for himself of course. His spark ignites when he's the only one left alive and goes on to conquer other planes. Full story from magic.wizards.com: magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/ur/first-world-hardest-2014-11-05Ob Nixilis the Conqueror Legendary Creature - Human Warrior Menace Sacrifice two other creatures: Draw a card. If you control no other creatures, exile ~, then return him to the battlefield transformed under his owner’s control. 4/2 // Ob Nixilis Worldender Legendary Planeswalker - Nixilis Starting Loyalty: : If you control no creatures, create a 5/5 black Demon creature token with flying. : Target opponent chooses up to one creature they control, then sacrifices the rest. : Target opponent gains an emblem with "At the beginning of your end step, sacrifice a creature. Then, if you control fewer creatures than each opponent, you lose the game."

Wandering Orphan Legendary Creature - Human If Wandering Orphan would be put into the graveyard during combat, instead remove it from combat, then transform it. 1/2 // Elspeth, Wanderer Legendary Planeswalker - Elspeth Reveal the top card of your library. If it’s a creature card with converted mana cost 3 or less or a Plains card, you may put it into your hand. Create a 1/1 white Soldier. You may put a creature with converted mana cost 3 from your hand onto the battlefield. Starting Loyalty:

Forgive me if mine is a little over-complicated. I've been experimenting with levellers that don't advance their stats and turn into planeswalkers with a single signature ability. Lots of planeswalkers end up only ever using one ability, and we've already seen one ability with a minus cost, but I wanted to see how a planeswalker with a single plus loyalty ability would work. Made a custom frame, and called them paragon sparkers. Meant to be very story focused on a planeswalker's progression in their story and learning their talents, before sparking in a finale where they have mastered their most signature spell. Felt as though it was appropriate to bring out for a sparkers prompt. The mechanical idea is that after jumping through the hoops to transform them, the player is rewarded with a strong (but not ultimate) ability that they want to use every turn. Meanwhile their opponent can choose to ignore a very one dimensional planeswalker, but doing so very quickly gets them out of reach. It requires some tweaking to the formatting of levellers. Mainly, changing the "Level 1-4" format to "Level 1+". It's always confused me that they keep the abilities they unlock at each level, but this is marked with a tag that makes it seem as though they only apply from levels 1 through to 4, while different abilities are in place for levels 5 onwards. I hope it makes it clearer that abilities that unlock at early levels remain unlocked. Also, if people are having trouble finding art for the walkers, I recommend going for the masterpiece series ones. They're unfamiliar enough, at least to me, that it doesn't feel weird reusing their art. Finding the right art is a chore sometimes, especially when restricted to characters with established appearances.

Sarkhan the Whisperer Legendary Creature- Human Shaman Whenever Sarkhan the Whisperer deals combat damage to a player, you may reveal a creature card with power 4 or greater from your hand. If you do, exile Sarkhan, then return him to the battlefield transformed under his owner’s control. : Sarkhan gets +1/+0 and gains flying and haste until end of turn. 2/2 --- Sarkhan, Seeker of Dragons ::isrg:: Legendary Planeswalker- Sarkhan : Add or . If that mana is spent on a creature spell, it gains haste and trample until end of turn. : Search your library for a red creature card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library. : You get an emblem with “Whenever you cast a creature spell, create a 4/4 red Dragon creature token with flying and haste.”

I like the idea of having a deathtouch commander in green black for Giant Growth or Hatred shenanigans. Maybe the -X is a little too strong, but it's a little throwback to Abrupt Decay.

Also, just warning, you mistakenly left the planeswalker side as a legendary creature.

By this point, Tezzeret is already a decently well-known planeswalker, having had an important role in some the latest few sets. Still for a quick summary of how he got his spark: 1. He was born to a "bit" of a dysfunctional family and lived as a scrapper in Esper. 2. Discovered he had a talent in rhabdomancy, so he was pretty much left alone to search for the metal. Ended up stealing etherium for himself. 3. Once he felt he had enough he ran away. Pursued goals of education and his mastery with etherium was prodigal. Nonetheless his low birth got in the way and he ended up murdering a lot of people (never got caught). 4. After losing a certain duel he got impatient and stole a precious artifact, nearly got killed by "security". Boom, spark. PS: Oh boy were the pics hard to find that were neither already part of existing cards, based on post-Bolas Tezzeret or just generally unfit for a magic card.

Some more Kiora, inspired by the fact that she sparked because a serpent just ate her. Wild.
