While making her way through the Arena one day, Atlani crosses paths with a familiar rat, shaking the snow out of his fur. "Ah, if it isn't me fav'rite customer o' th' whole Arena!" the rat exclaims as he scampers over. He sizes up Atlani, noticing something different from their last encounter. "Oh, it looks like you's lost track of yer big sword there! Well has Zweil gots just the thing for you, a brand new, wunna-kind secret message sword! It's gotta rune line so secret that even I can't tell what it says!" The rat pulls out a sword that reminds Atlani of home. Inscribed in gold along the blade she can read quite clearly one of the Edicts of Ilagra: To conquer is to eat. Ancestral Blade Artifact - Equipment Dash (You may cast this spell for its dash cost. If you do, it enters attached to a creature, and it’s returned from the battlefield to its owner’s hand at the beginning of the next end step.)Equipped creature gets +3/+0 and has haste, menace, and vigilance.

Cooperation: Blade and Smith {Cooperation: Blade and Smith} FWOOOOSH. …BANG. BANG. BANG. BANG.
In a town farther inland, a young blacksmith hammered away at her latest project.
The room was split in two, one half covered in stone, containing the forge itself, the other wood, with a counter and a number of iron and steel products set out for display: horseshoes, chain, as well as all other manner of fastenings. The most dangerous of these products were a small series of plain daggers in a wooden crate, as well as a shortsword hung up on the wall, dressed in a light coat of dust.
The smith finished the last of an order of nails before cooling it in water, putting it in a box with the others, then bringing the box over to a customer on the other side of the counter: a man only a year or so older than the smith, brown hair and eyes, and wearing simple pants, winter boots, and a grey tunic with the sleeves rolled up.
“So how’d it go? Find those ‘gods’ you were looking for?” His tone wasn’t mocking, just… unbelieving. She told herself he meant well.
“Well, there was one there. Said I missed the others by a couple of weeks, they went back to their empire. The structure they left was as the others described it: large, glass walls, and immaculate white pillars. Looked like something lords would dream about. Plus plenty of big metal stuff in there that I certainly have no clue what any of it does. Had a wonky, poorly-made wall around it, though. Not all gods are architects, I suppose.”
“Heh, guess not. Shame about them leaving, but hey, sounds like it wasn’t a total waste.”
“Yeah. And at least I’m finally caught up on all the work I missed.” She hands him the box and accepts a few coins in payment. He takes his coat off the hanger and puts it on as he heads out into the winter night. Normally customers don’t stay long enough to justify taking their coats off, but Merich liked the conversation, and gods knew it was hot in there, what with the forge.
With that day’s work done, she ascended a set of wooden stairs behind the counter, hung her apron on a hook by the door, and headed into her room, to find a curious sight: Resting on the bed was a glimmering broadsword. Just by glancing, it’s some type of steel, but what could make it shine so gently, and with the most extravagant handle she had ever seen? Meticulously sculpted, inlaid with gems she could not name, she looked around for some sort of sign as to who had brought it here.
Miss Eisner.
She jumped, and looked to the door, but found no one. “What? Where are you? Who… are you? Why are you talking in my head?”
Relax, child. I am the blade before you, but I am a god. I have been across the multiverse, I am older than time, and with time, I will let you see it all as well: marvel at every beauty, natural and architected; learn every lesson, from every teacher; experience everything. However, first, I find myself in need of your help, Miss Eisner. During that time, I will grant you access to all my knowledge of the multiverse. Your blades will be the sharpest this plane has ever seen, your armor the strongest. The blueprint of luxury, in your palm, should you reach out and take it.
She looked next to the blade. “I, wow. I’d be honored to help a god. You must know so much, you must be… gods, insanely powerful, what could you possibly need from me?”
I need you to tell me what you know about the other gods.
Through Selem's divine inspiration, Yenna has unlocked Upgrade! (Give it one of the listed counters it doesn't already have) Upgrade was made by Parasign, as used in AKD.

A woman in dark clothes arrives in town. She's been here before, but it's not a guarantee that any given person would have interacted with her, and the last visit was quite some time ago. However, this time she's been send with a goal: Foxtail Forge.Once she arrives, she knocks on the door, and presuming it's answered, she provides a polite greeting, in a clearly non-fluent version of the Sanaerti dialect. "Hello. My name is Leira. I am sent by Mister Rel to talk with someone called Miss Yenna."Leira, Arena Linguist Legendary Creature - Human Citizen Whenever Leira, Arena Linguist attacks, reveal a card from your hand. On one day, far too close to closing, the outdoors are already entirely dark on account of the winter season. A stranger—no, a familiar figure walks into the smithy. They must have considered it rude to remain armed in the presence of such a craftsman, so they enter dressed in a damask coat; the gold patterns on it proudly proclaim its wearer's wealth. They take a moment to brush aside a few strands of hair that had been blown about by the winds outside, before speaking. "Good evening, madame forger. Some say you have come into possession of a fine blade; I have heard tales of it, as it passed through the hands of many duelists of this land. It is of blackened metal, with a red gem seeming like an eye on its cross-guard. If this is true, may I see it?" Dilettante-at-Arms Creature — Human Soldier When Dilettante-at-Arms enters the battlefield, search your library for two Equipment cards with different names. An opponent chooses one of them. Shuffle, then put the chosen card on top of your library and the other into your graveyard. 2/2

Ancestral Shield: 10/10. Oh I like this a lot. Atlani begins counting her coins, trying to find out how much she has to give, before looking up at the shield. She puts the coins back, and the tears welling in her eyes upon seeing the dragon's wings make reading the inscription harder than any wear on the shield itself. I never thought I'd see such things again. Thank you.The zeal in the rat's eyes isn't lost on Atlani, and she tries to remain honest without seeming irrational, all but ripping the tears from her eyes: "I can pay you partly in story, then. They belonged to my people, and are inscribed with our laws. The sword reads 'To conquer is to eat,' as in the wastelands we inhabit, it is by conquest that we gather supplies. The shield reads "Victory or death," for when it is our survival on the line, we win, or we die. If not by our enemies, then by starvation or thirst. The wings here on this shield represent the wings and speed of dragons, who all Tarkirians had spent untold generations fighting before their eventual extinction. Other clans lived too, representing the wisdom, ferociousness, stamina, and viciousness of such dragons. Now, among the Mardu, there is a third law. You've miraculously produced items with the first two, have you the third?"Alesha's Lineman Creature - Orc Warrior When ~ attacks, if it has first strike, attacking creatures you control gain first strike until end of turn. The same is true for deathtouch, double strike, haste, hexproof, indestructible, lifelink, menace, trample, and vigilance. 4/4
For ease of reading: This is Odric, Lunarch Marshal's list minus flying, reach, and skulk. If that matters.

Dilettante-at-Arms: 9/10. This is a very interesting card. Searching for 2 is nicely balanced with one on top, one in graveyard. Yenna stands behind the counter, cleaning it, as the figure enters, her tan, soot-stained shirt nothing but rags compared to the noble's extravagance. She quickly transitions into a curtsy upon recognizing them. She chuckles almost nervously. "Ah, yes, I hadn't realized it had such a reputation." A visitor, my lord? I hadn't expected one so soon, but it's a welcome surprise. Of course. "Please, a moment, I'll retrieve it for you." She ascends the stairs, trying to be quick while also hyperaware of her manners. Many a duelist? Anyone I should know about? Simple guards and mercenaries. No one noteworthy. Uh-huh. Anything you want me to tell them? Hm...
After a short moment, Yenna returns, carrying a blanket wrapped around what must be a sword. "I would be most interested to know of the stories you've heard, good syr. Surely such tales deserve to be spread." She lays it down, and unwraps it, revealing a blade looking just as the knight expected. Selem, Darksteel Blade
Legendary Planeswalker - Selem Equipment Equip Equipped creature is indestructible. Equipped creature gets +1/+0 until your next upkeep. Equipped creature deals 6 damage to any target. You gain 6 life. Put six +1/+1 counters on equipped creature. Unequip ~.
Since it's the 2nd planeswalker equipment, and it's been a while since the first one, reminder that they enter attached to a creature, can't activate abilities unless they're attached to a creature, and have "Whenever this planeswalker is attacked, equipped creature blocks this turn if able."

Simple guards and mercenaries. No one noteworthy.
The memories of the previous wielders seem displeased with the notion. Surely among them there was someone noteworthy? The idea nags at Selem, insisting that it should become a belief.
Uh-huh. Anything you want me to tell them?
The same expectation is taking root in Yenna's mind as well, strong enough for Selem to telepathically sense it.
The Knight leans on the counter as they examine Selem, but make no further motions towards him. They smile. "Indeed, they deserve to be spread! Now for the tales, I have heard of many past wielders. There is the hunter-warrior estranged of their origin, the angelic savior, the heir of a shadowed empire, the ruthless pirate marauder, the dragon rider, the simple retired mercenary, the informant now without a master, the bitter student... do any of these particularly interest you?" Surely, at least some of these must be completely untrue... but the stories seem to resent the thought.Empty Handed Duelist Creature — Human Monk When Empty Handed Duelist enters the battlefield, you may unattach target Equipment.
3/1
Selem, Darksteel Blade — This seems to compare very favorably to darksteel plate with the automatic equip on entry, which makes me already suspicious given that it makes the block requirement much less of a downside, so I think this could use some improvement in its development. Besides that, the design seems to be sound, with a reason given to re-equip it, which is something of a design challenge for equipment planeswalkers. Also, check Sunforger; the more correct term is unattach. 8/10

Empty Handed Duelist: 10/10. Yeah, ok, that's pretty cool actually. Selem thought back to his prior wielders. Many of them were, in fact, quite noteworthy. Grand warriors, and- no, wait. Many of them were noteworthy, but none on this plane. At most one, but this blathering fool listed over half a dozen! The dragon was not bent to their will, but rather, the dragon was the very manifestation of that will! How steadfast, how fierce one must be, to call one's very soul a dragon!" Their eyes gleam as they regale the tale. "The hopes of their parents, their entire kingdom laid upon them, the dragon rider fought in one of the greatest battles this Arena has ever seen... and such is the heroism that has wielded this blade. Of course, that one may be only a tall tale, but know this: that sword is one that has most often been lost in duels." They sigh, and push themselves to stand from the counter, to look Yenna up and down with a frown. "It is disappointing then, that I have found it now, but not in the hands of a worthy opponent... though perhaps I am mistaken." They give a confident smile. "How did you come by this blade?"Embodied Dragonsoul Enchantment Creature — Dragon Bestow Flying : Target attacking creature gets +X/+0 until end of turn. 4/4 Tale of Battle's End — This seems fair, and it's an interesting tradeoff in terms of damage done (while also working well with blocks), but I don't entirely see what it does as a response a cheap aggressive creature with an ETB. 9/10

Right, right. Have to be the pinnacle of respect in the gods' presence. Oh no, she can't read my mind like you can, can she? I should hope you'd know if she could. But no, not so far as I'm aware.
"Yes, that would be me. Yenna stays on the "store" side of the room, and moves a stool from behind the counter in front of it for Leira. "I understand that you've come from another world? The visitor laughs. "That's the trick, isn't it? Enchanted creature gets +4/+4 and has flying.
4/4 Tale of Battle's End — This seems fair, and it's an interesting tradeoff in terms of damage done (while also working well with blocks), but I don't entirely see what it does as a response a cheap aggressive creature with an ETB. 9/10
Embodied Dragonsoul: 10/10. *notices your 'giving other attacking creatures firebreathing'* Yenna's eyes shine as brightly as the knight's as she listens to the tale. Yenna's shining eyes dim as the knight examines her. Did... did people kill each other over you? "How did you come by this blade?" Allow me to tell this 'story' if you would, Miss Eisner.
Yenna straightens herself confidently, rebounding under the confidence placed in her by the knight. "Well, I admit I did not win it in combat. A brutal battle had been fought not far from here. Two warring lords, both fighting for just causes, sent their armies to the field. The northern army was led by a powerful mage, and the eastern by a fierce knight. For nearly a full day, we in the village stayed inside, hearing the distant booms of the magus' spells, and the battle cries of the knight's troops. When it finally stopped, I ventured towards the battlefield, and found carnage. Blood spilled by both sides, and a clear path. For every eastern soldier dead, three northerners lied before them. I followed this path until I found the knight-general. Or, what was left of him." Yenna begins dramatically acting out the poses of the bodies. "His armor torn and burnt, he lay, with his rival mere inches away, her breast cleaved in twain. In the deathgrip of the knight, I found the blade, coated in ice and blood." Yenna's dramatic flair cools down, and she gestures to the blade on the table. "Originally I was going for scrap metal, but after finding this beauty, I brought it back and cleaned it up. I've had it maybe a week."Um. What... what was that about? In due time. Two warring lords, both fighting for just causes, sent their armies to the field. The northern army was led by a powerful mage, and the eastern by a fierce knight. The grandeur of the dragon rider quickly fades with Selem's continued telepathic protests. However, the rooted expectations placed upon him never truly left. When Selem tells his own tall tale through Yenna, there is truly power coursing through it. Once it is finished, the two feel as though it could have truly happened.
The Knight seems to completely believe it, or is at least convincingly playing along. They laugh, and scratch their chin with nails painted dark red. "What a finale to its legacy! I suppose it is the great folly, to assume that a vendetta must have a victor. There is a certain righteousness in your possession of this blade then. I am satisfied that my search ended this way." They turn to leave.
In the meanwhile, Selem finds something odd when he tries to read Lothaire's mind; rather than an individual mind that he can examine, it feels more as though he is opening himself to a surrounding current. Such a pervasive presence seems as though it should have been impossible to miss before—could it have only appeared once Selem was willing to listen to it? In the current, Selem feels the vague tale of a valiant Knight, gathering a retinue, battling evil, laying claim to ancient artifacts... of a land fragmented across space and time, that has seen many tyrants, but will be united by this hero.
"Thank you, and farewell."
Suddenly, the current stops. Something knows Selem is here, in some form—that he was the one who interfered, refused to play along before. Whatever the current is, it has already gained something, so it is leaving him be... for now. The Knight has already left. If one were to step outside, they would not see them riding away.
The next morning, as the sun is rising, the village awakes to find itself on the edge of what was a terrible battlefield only a week before. For some villagers, they have already moved on from the tragedy, but to some, including Yenna and Selem, it is an entirely new horror.
Paradoxical Piker Enchantment Creature — Spirit Soldier Enchanted creature gets +2/+1.
Spectral (When this creature dies, you may return it to the battlefield as an Aura enchantment attached to target creature.) 2/1
Sarcastic Disbelief — Not a big fan of on-board removal being easily mixed with counterspells, and both modes seem very weak considering the cost. Otherwise it's good for relevance. 7/10

Seasonal Inspiration is a bit awkward -- most of the spells you want to be casting in domain decks aren't gonna be costing a lot of generic mana -- though the converse problem is that if this is good it represents a 5-drop artifact on turn 2 or a 6-drop non-artifact on turn 3 with little difficulty. 7/10

Paradoxical Piker: 9/10. Is this an infinite loop? (provided there's other creatures for it to keep enchanting, of course) Should the current read the blade, all it would find is a short, playfully curious You cheeky bastard. What are you getting at?After the knight leaves, and a pause is granted to ensure they don't return, Yenna scoops up Selem and rushes back upstairs.
Yenna wakes up peacefully the next morning. She rises from her bed, dresses in practical pants, and a tunic which she ties at her waist to keep it tight, then looks out the window, to see a hilltop view of the surrounding area. Her peaceful morning has lasted all of four minutes. ...hey wait a minute, something's different. Ah, how good of you to finally notice. The town's gone mad about it. Care for a trip? I... ...yeah. What happened last night? I believe we may have met a 'god.' And a fun one at that.
Dots connected, and a dark thought entered Yenna's mind. I know you're more than just a sword, but... if we go out there, I'll be okay, right? If you grant me enough control. That's a suspicious answer. Fine, if anything happens that you can't handle, I'll handle it. That's... slightly better. Close enough, I guess.
After donning a coat, a cloak, some mismatched pieces of armor, and attaching Selem to her belt, Yenna heads off to what is now a hopefully barren battlefield.
Yenna, Cautious Faithful Legendary Creature - Human Scout Deathtouch ~ gets +0/+2 as long as she's enchanted or equipped. 2/3 The gods haven't strayed me wrong yet. But I'm not so sure about this.

At first I was like "wait, why would you want that, that's only 4 times?" and then I remembered flicker exists. To... learn? She's not omniscient, and certainly not omnipotent. I... huh.
Yenna tries her best to not sound disappointed. Goddess or not, Leira was a guest. Her smile appears genuine, but she can't shake the melancholy from her eyes. "That must be nice, having your job be to travel around to different planes and learn about them." She sips her water, and glances out the window.
Simple Truth of Humanity Instant Put a +1/+1 counter on each Human you control. They gain protection from all colors until end of turn. She's... Human. ...yeah.
"I would say so, yeah." Leira makes a definitely confused look, but she doesn't let it interrupt her train of thought. "I talk with a lot of different people, with a lot of different reasons for doing what they do. I think I mostly have the local language figured out, which has helped with that, though I'm obviously not as fluent with it as I am in Volarian and I need to get better at it before I need to pick up another language. I think the next one for me is to learn one of the Virilin languages. Probably hanago but I'm not sure yet."I think Human-specific means this can probably go down a mana. Putting a counter on all humans you control is just a thing a 2-mana creature can do. 8/10 Further Reading Enchantment When Further Reading enters the battlefield, search your library for up to one artifact card, one enchantment card, and one creature card with mana value 3 or less, and exile them. Whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player, put a card exiled by Further Reading into its owner's hand.

In the remains of the battle, Yenna finds a clear path through the cold carnage, strewn with what corpses have not yet been cleared. A week into decay, as she said, there are three northerners for every easterner. Should she follow this path, she will find the rival warlords: the knight-general in armor broken apart by fierce magics and the two halves of the magus.
A breath passes through the terrible scene. Rippling gray clouds still the sunlight, and ghosts of the fallen rise from the corpses across the battlefield. Phantom drums sound in the distance. Those near the scene of the final stalemate dutifully lay their weapons down in memory of the knight-general—a memory that, too, returns from the grave, steed and all. From the offerings, he chooses a mace and axe as his weapons. The ghost of the knight-general stares down Yenna, and motions to Selem. No words are necessary to understand the intent when the knight-general charges the very next second.
Lothaire has spent their final starting skill point on Questmaster (Unlocks Legendary).
The Knight-General of the East Legendary Creature — Human Knight Haste Equip abilities that target The Knight-General of the East or enchanted creature cost less to activate. Spectral (When this creature dies, you may return it to the battlefield as an Aura enchantment attached to target creature.)2/2 Yenna, Cautious Faithful — I think this comes off as a bit weak, as though it should be monocolour or 2 MV gold. Besides that, it's a simple combination that gets locked out of common because of the convention on deathtouch with high toughness, making it a neat uncommon legend. 8/10

The Knight-General of the East: 7/10. Compared to Fervent Champion, I think this has room to be more powerful. Yenna is horrified as she walks the field. This place wasn't a battlefield the night before, the armies and battle were made up, right? Right? She quickly mutters every funeral prayer she knows, cycling through them on repeat, as she passes the corpses. Your Grace, I thought you made up that story. I had. Then why am I standing in the field you made up? As I've said, it seems this 'god of tales' is trying to wield me.
She cries and averts her eyes upon finding the generals. Her prayers shift from funeral prayers to those of protection. Have you genuinely never seen a corpse before? Not so many at once, and never cut clean in half! She looks back, to see the spirits of the fallen paying their respects to their general, and that of the general rising from his corpse. She watches, trying to slip away as the knight gathers weapons, but freezes upon being pointed out by the spirit. "Um, hi, can I-" The knight charges toward her, and she frantically struggles to pull Selem from her belt. YourGraceYourGraceYourGrace, pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease She calms, stands her ground, and pulls the sword from her belt, prepared to parry. Selem, Soul Cleaver Legendary Planeswalker - Selem Equipment Equip Equipped creature gets +2/+1 until end of turn. Destroy target creature. It's controller creates a 1/1 white Spirit creature token with flying. Return any number of target Aura cards from graveyards to the battlefield under your control attached to equipped creature.

Leira repeats to herself as she tries to reach into her memory to find such a person. "We have a lot of people that study aether, that might be related. I could probably find at least a few people that study souls... I don't know if we have someone that studies planeswalkers specifically? It's pretty good here, at least. 9/10 Research Assistant Artifact Creature - Aetherborn Construct Whenever Research Assistant deals combat damage to a player, scry 2. 1/3

Sure. Weird that it's an artifact creature Aetherborn, though, since they were just creatures in Kaladesh. "A shame, but congratulations to them!" An awkward silence follows from Yenna, seemingly run out of topics for discussion. "One last question, for now, at least, do you have, or would it be too trouble some to send, any books or schematics I could borrow, or buy? I imagine there must be something like that on Volaria, thought it might be more helpful to people than what I make now." She gestures to the staples of blacksmithing that surround her: horseshoes, nails, screws, simple farming tools. Iterative Process Sorcery As an additional cost to cast ~, sacrifice an artifact. Search your library for an artifact with mana value equal to one plus the sacrificed artifact's mana value, then put that card on the battlefield. If it's a creature, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
