So, I've been thinking about this for a few weeks, and I think it's a good idea. Magic is, at its heart, a game. And games are meant to be fun. Now, things can be fun and competitive, as Magic certainly is, but sometimes you just wanna have old-school wacky Magic fun. Well, as it turns out, there's tons of fan-created (and occasionally officially supported) formats that fundamentally change how Magic is played. Commander is the breakout, and we already have a Commander Game on the boards, so I think this can be a catch-all for the other, lesser-loved formats.
As for officially supported formats, Wizards has, throughout the game's history, printed Planechase, Archenemy, and Vanguard, at least to my knowledge. All of those formats use specific cards (planes/phenomena, schemes, and vanguards, specifically). There are others as well, such as the hero cards, the cards in the challenge decks, conspiracies. Beyond that, there are formats that play very differently to normal Magic, but don't require special cards (Horde Magic and Emperor come to mind.) While some of these cards may fit into other games on these boards occasionally, I figured they needed a place to call home. (In the months I've been here, I've only seen a handful of planes and conspiracies, and that's about it.)
So, the rules are pretty standard, do whatever the challenge is, winner picks the next challenge, etc. I'm not going to require renders, but if whoever is issuing the challenge wants to, I think that's fine. The only rule is that the challenges and entries have to apply to a "non-standard" Magic format. For example, if the challenge was to "create something for Planechase", it could be a Plane, Phenomenon, or even a regular card that has a special affect in the format (think how Command Tower only produces mana in Commander, or how some cards give you a benefit if you draft it).
So! Without further ado, I will issue the first challenge, keeping it simple to start off. Design a new villainous scheme for Archenemy!
Sidenote: If anyone thinks it would be better if the game were a bit smaller in scope, we could try that, but I think keeping it wide will keep the challenges fresh and exciting, as well as exposing more people to different formats and hopefully getting them involved.
